He said out of the 700 crimes, 200 were registered at East Police Station.Tetseo was speaking at the 15th Peace Knit Fest 2022-cum-Peace Chan nel Foundation Day and commemoration of In ternational Day of Peace as chief guest at Peace Centre, 7th Mile, Chü

It was organ ised by Peace Channel in collaboration with North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR).Tetseo pointed out that out of Nagaland’s total population of 19 lakh approximately, Dimapur alone was home to about 3.80 lakh people, which partly explained the dis trict’s high incidence of crime. He remarked wryly that despite being a Chris tian-majority State, Na galand had a high rate of vehicle theft and extortion cases. He called for peace and tranquillity, adding that crimes affected overall growth and development in the society.
He told the students present on the occasion saying that unless one had peace within, he or she would not be at peace with others in the society. He asked them to feel and practice peace, besides sincerely contribute to wards building a peaceful society.Pointing out that trust deficit has created divisions along tribal lines and among organisations, Tetseo stressed on the need to have a single organ isation that would unite Nagas under one platform.
“We will witness peace in the society once we overcome hatred with love for, peace means ad justment and forgiveness,” Tetseo remarked.

Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF), under the aegis of Western Sumi Hoho , on Wednesday served a threeweek ultimatum on the State government to evict the “selfstyled proclaimed villagers of Lamhai Namdhi from the village land of Kiyevi.”
In a representation to the chief secretary, WSYF president Mughavi Awomi and general secretary Bohoi K. Yeptho cautioned that the front would be compelled to resort to its “own traditional
means and ways of protect ing our land”, adding that the “consequences and the responsibility”, thereafter, will remain, squarely, on the state WSYFgovernment.said the front sought prompt action of the State government with regard to the “unilateral creation of the so-called Lamhai Namdhi village within the established area of Kiyevi village.”
It said that Kiyevi, for years and decades, weathered all the pains, tears and sweat, to transform what was once, inhabitable, into a habitable settlement. “Kiyevi today will be committing gross injustice to the sacrifices shouldered by our fathers and grandfathers,
if their selfless sacrifices ren dered yesterday are under valued,” it said. However, WSYF lamented that Lamhai Namdhi did not recognise the reality of how it all came about, but accused it of being “hell-bent” on its “might is right” policy to occupy the “habitable made” clearings sacrificed made by Kiyevi.
“Does it not prick the conscience to force occupy without even thinking of bothering to peek into how much Kiyevi has done to safeguard the Naga’s land by establishing a village against all odds? Where were you then, during those unimagi nable times?” WSYF asked.

Role of anchor is critical: SC on hate speech on TV
NEW DELHI, SEP 21 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Wednesday strongly criticised hate speech through visual media, including the role of TV anchors, as it emphasised that it poisons the fabric of our society and questioned the government for being a mute spectator, instead of playing lead role in curbing such Aspeeches.bench of Justices K.M. Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy said that the role of the anchor during a TV debate is very important, as it pulled up TV channels over hate speech, and pointed out that it is the anchor’s duty to see that hate speech is not used during the broadcast of a show.“Where is our nation headed? Hate speech poisons very fabric... cannot permit it,” Justice Joseph said.
The bench also pulled the Centre’s counsel on
the issue of hate speech. “Why is the government standing mute... why is all this happening? People will come and go and the nation will have to endure,” he added. The bench suggested there should be a system in place and there should be some methodology to conduct the show on TV, and the anchor should not run down“Youpeople.run down a person. Just see what that person feels... you ridicule someone on a daily basis, it is like killing someone
slowly,” said Justice Joseph. He further added that these speeches on mainstream media or social media are unregulated and the role of anchor is critical, it’s their duty to see that hate speech doesn’t continue.
The bench told the Centre’s counsel that the government should not treat the issue of hate speech as a trivial matter and take lead on developing mechanisms to curb it.
The bench also questioned Uttarakhand government counsel: “What action did you take, when Dharam
Sansad was (happening)... did you try to prevent it?”, while emphasszing that no religion preaches violence.
The counsel replied, “We took preventive action...”.Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj, representing the Centre, informed the bench that 14 state governments have responded on action taken against hate speech.
The bench said freedom of press is important but we should know where to draw a line. It further added that hate speech is layered and it is like killing someone, and TV channels get people hooked to them. It further added that sense of fraternity cannot happen in atmosphere of hate.
It said the government should not take an adversarial stand but assist the court and scheduled the matter for further hearing in November. It also asked the

CLAIMS NITISH, FAROOQ ALSO NOT AVERSE TO JOIN HANDS WITH CONGRESS
NEW DELHI, SEP 21 (AGENCIES): West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was ready to bury her differences with the Congress to form a united opposition front against the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, NCP chief Sharad Pawar claimed on Wednesday. Pawar also said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdulla, too, were not averse to join hands with the “MamataCongress.Bannerjee had personally said that her party is ready to come together in the national interests and work with Congress to put up a proper challenge before the ruling BJP,” Pawar said.
The Trinamool Congress and the Congress have been at loggerheads in West Bengal for the last several months with both parties engaged in war of words over the issue of
opposition front leadership. Last year, the TMC had said the party was “disinterested” in coordinating with the Congress and did not want to play second fiddle to the grand old party. Banerjee’s party had taken a dig at Rahul Gandhi’s defeat at Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha poll and wondered whether the Congress could erase it through a
TwitterThetrend.ties between the Congress and the TMC was further strained after ‘Jago Bangla’ in one of its articles asserted that Banerjee and not Rahul Gandhi has emerged as the face of the opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the West Bengal elections, the TMC felt that the Congress and CPI(M) alliance helped the
BJP to win more seats in the state. However, Pawar said Banerjee had told him that she was ready to forget her experience with the Congress in the state elections.“The rank and file of the TMC was highly disappointed with the Congress after the West Bengal elections, but the party chief amended her stand,” the NCP chief said. Pawar’s remarks came amid attempts by opposition leaders, including Nitish Kumar and Telangana Rashtra Samiti supremo K. Chandrasekhar Rao, to stitch a formidable alliance against the ruling front ahead of the Parliamentary elections.Interestingly, the NCP chief’s remarks also came a day after Mamata Banerjee took a soft approach towards Narendra Modi as she said he did not believe that the prime minister was behind the CBI-ED raids on the TMC leaders.

Saffron Star in the east Assam
chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is certainly the BJP’s go to man and his regularity as the newsmaker has propelled his political journey upwards within the party. Himanta has been donning many caps as the unquestioned dada of the BJP in Assam and at the same time, as the leader of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) comprising of various national or regional political parties. One hat that Himanta of late has been wear ing often is as a true practitioner of Hindutva vis-à-vis suspected illegal Bangladeshi muslims. In Assam the issues of illegal foreign national immigrants from Bangladesh as well as the Bangaldeshi Hindus are sensitive. The anti-foreigners agenda occupies more time and space in the light of terror threats by Islamic radical groups inimical to India’s security. On the other hand, Hindu immigrants from Bangladesh are welcomed to Hindutva country as citizens by the party. Himanta has presided over the bulldozing of houses of those suspected to be linked with Islamic terror outfits. Some Madarsas suspected of being bastion of Islamic fundamentalism are also under scanner. The Assam chief minister is definitely in the eye of all the storm which ensures he continue to get media limelight. Himanta has also been linked with politics beyond his state, when allegations surfaced that he was trying to lure Jharkhand Congress MLAs to topple the Congress-JMM coalition. Himanta has also taken on Rahul on several occasions and minc ing no words against his former party boss. On the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said Congress partitioned India and therefore, Rahul should take Bharat Jodo Yatra to Pakistan to achieve Akhand Bharat. The Assam chief minister has also trained his guns at AAP and its chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. He had also filed a Rs.100 crore defamation suit against Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia for his statement made at a press conference in Delhi on June 4 , alleging scam in the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) to his wife Riniki Sarma’s company. At times, being proactive has also landed him in controversies such as directing traffic in Au gust 2021 from the national highway skirting around Kaziranga National Park. He was also seen publicly rebuking the deputy commissioner of Nagaon district in January 2022, for blocking the traffic on highway for his visit. Himanta’s handling of the illegal immi grant issue(read suspected Bangladeshi muslims) has led to the impression that his government is targeting a particular community, not just clearing land that it claims is illegally occupied. Such allega tions, was strengthened by evictions in Sipajhar on September 21,2021. Farms and homes were burnt down, mosques were demolished to make way for an agricultural project that proposes to employ youths belonging to communities considered indigenous to Assam. Well known political activist, Akhil Gogoi, who represents the Sivasagar assembly constituency, claimed that eviction is the most potent tool because it can tap into Assamese anxieties. Whatever be the burning issues in Assam, Himanta can be expected to play his role. Even with regard to the Naga political issue, Himanta has also become the to-go-man for the Naga legislators. To many observers, whatever good intention behind Himanta’s involvement is still puzzling. He had openly admitted, that he does not know anything about the issue. All these matter little to a man whose political stock is on the rise and even referred to as a future prime minister of India.

The PredestinedMissionary’sPurpose
Now the Lord says, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant… —Isaiah 49:5
The first thing that happens after we recognize our election by God in Christ Jesus is the destruction of our preconceived ideas, our narrow-minded thinking, and all of our other allegiances— we are turned solely into servants of God’s own purpose. The entire human race was created to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. Sin has diverted the human race onto another course, but it has not altered God’s purpose to the slightest degree. And when we are born again we are brought into the realization of God’s great purpose for the hu man race, namely, that He created us for Himself. This realization of our election by God is the most joyful on earth, and we must learn to rely on this tremendous creative purpose of God. The first thing God will do is force the interests of the whole world through the chan nel of our hearts. The love of God, and even His very nature, is introduced into us. And we see the nature of Almighty God purely focused in John 3:16— “For God so loved the world….”
We must continually keep our soul open to the fact of God’s creative purpose, and never confuse or cloud it with our own intentions. If we do, God will have to force our intentions aside no matter how much it may hurt. A missionary is created for the purpose of being God’s servant, one in whom God is glorified. Once we realize that it is through the salvation of Jesus Christ that we are made perfectly fit for the purpose of God, we will understand why Jesus Christ is so strict and relentless in His demands. He demands absolute right eousness from His servants, because He has put into them the very nature of God.
Beware lest you forget God’s purpose for your life.
Post-mortem
Bengaluru or Venice? Chaotic urbanization and development
B angaloreans shall never forget the first week of September, 2022. Wherever you go one is confronted with water, water, water everywhere. The sight of waterlogged city which used to be called as Silicon Valley – IT capital tag wore entirely a horrifying look From CEOs to migrant laborers, everyone was faced the with the brunt of water manifested in the unbridled development that the city once was once proud of. Res idents right from CXOs and business heads living in some of the poshest residential complexes and bungalows in Whitefield worth crores of rupees and expensive cars to migrant workers living in temporary homes everyone was affected. Many tempo rary houses were washed away, while the rich moved to theBengaluruhotels. during these days came to complete halt or to say standstill. Delivery agents in order to survive risked themselves by travel ling on their motor bikes half sunk or to say in the knee-deep water. Many of the events in Bengaluru had been re-scheduled or can celled. Business of the res taurants, hospitality chains and small vendors were badly affected. Since Ben galuru is a city of contrasts, the poor had to manage in whatever conditions that ex ists, while the rich living in the Yemalur, Sarjapur Road, Marathahalli and Whitefield areas from 2nd September,
22 onwards have booked hotel rooms for bulk dates, since their battered homes need refurbishing. Hotels in Whitefield almost running nearly full occupancy and have guests booking for long stays. The rich will have a number of alternatives, but the poor have to manage in water and changing weather conditions. This is how the world function wherein the poor suffers the most. The number of cars and bikes being brought for re pairs and reboots have gone up many times. In the com ing days it would increase. Public conveyance refused to ply to water-logged areas. Apart from humans, animals and birds were also badly affected by the recent down pour. Across social strata the recent rains spared none.
Experts say that Bengaluru has had one of the worst rains in many decades. Bar ring 1998, when Bengaluru received 725 mm of rainfall, this is the highest rainfall since 1971. Bengaluru has already received around 709 mm of rainfall this year. Those in water-logged areas had no electricity and drink ing water for several days.
Karnataka Chief Min ister Basavaraj Bommai has released Rs. 300 cores for Bengaluru and Rs. 600 crores in total for the damages due to the rains. Since Bengaluru is the worst affected this, Rs. 300 crores would be used to restore damaged infrastruc ture like roads, electricity, electric poles, transformer,
schools, etc. But the loss for the MNCs located in Silicon Valley and for others run to Rs. 225 crores due to rain after a five-hour traffic jam. The havoc of the recent rains in Bengaluru has created a nightmare for the city’s commuters. This year, the incessant downpours did re impose and remind the very fact that the rains henceforth be causing perennial night mare for the residents of Bengaluru. There are some who are contemplating to shift their homes and offices to Hyderabad or Mumbai. The downpour of heavy rains has left deep memories in the minds of people that ‘Silicon Valley’ is not safe anymore as people thought.
The incessant down pours have triggered the deeper probing which has created indelible mark in the hearts and minds of Bengeluraians that the IT capital in dire straits, espe cially since the Outer Ring Road near the IT hubs is the worst hit when it comes to water logged roads. Along with these the crumbling of infrastructure of Bengaluru. Civic experts and tax payers are more concerned about haphazard development of the city as an IT hub. There were more water-logging and total break-down of infrastructure particularly in the modern extension of Bengaluru compared to the older and more well-planned areas like Jayanagar, where drainage and other basic facilities were functional
and other woes we take into account.Bengaluru once claimed as city known for planned development and extension is now viewed as a city of disarray. Wreck less urbanization, unplanned and unbridled development plan ning and mindless concrete construction have led the downfall of the beauty and bounty of Bengaluru. Ben galuru is the city of lakes, fauna and flora. Known for plurality of cultures, multi-religious and lingual, therefore by all means is pan-Indian. Bengaluru is also called as pensioners paradise. Economic impacts of nature’s fury apart from human misery if we cal culate in economic terms usually runs to crores of rupees for which materials and human resources runs to crores of rupees. At the cost nature, we keep increasing unlimited wants in order to justify mass production and mass consumption so that profits get maximized. Tens and hundreds of lakes have vanished. In its place huge and tall concrete structures emerged. Ben galuru once a garden city is now a concrete jungle. Heavy rain that hit the city for few days changed the face of the city – from economic boom to nature’s doom. Waterlogged plush areas of India’s tech capital and skewed development models are another grim warning to all cities in the country. Going after economic boom
Sensitization on Lokpal & Lokayukta

The Lokpal & Loka yukta Act, 2013 provided for the establishment of Lokpal for the Union and Lokayukta for States. They perform the function of an “Ombudsman” and inquire into allegations of corrup tion against certain public functionaries and for related matters. The institution of the Ombudsman was inau gurated officially in Sweden in 1809 and this is the origin where the concept of consti tutional Ombudsman was first proposed by the then Law Minister Ashok Kumar Sen in India in parliament in the early 1960’s and the term Lokpal & Lokayukta were coined by Dr. L.M. Singhvi.
In 1968, Lokpal Bill was passed in Lok Sabha but lapsed with the dissolu tion of Lok Sabha and since then it has lapsed in the Lok Sabha many times. In 2011, the government formed a group of ministers, chaired by Pranab Mukherjee to suggest measures to tackle corruption and examine the proposal of a Lokpal Bill. However, a pressure group called – “India Against Corruption Movement” led by Anna Hazare together the members consisted of Arvind Kejriwal(RTI Acitiv ist), IPS retired Kiran Bedi, Swami Agnivesh, Sri. Ravi Shanker, Malika Sarabhai put pressure on the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) government at the centre and resulted in the passing of the Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill, 2013, in both the Houses of Parliament. It received assent from President on 1st January 2014 and came into force on 16th January 2014. The Bill was drafted by Justice Santosh Hedge, Prashant Bhushan and Ar vind Kejriwal. Anna Hazare, an anti-corruption began a fast-unto-death, demanding to be adopted.Lokpal in Sanskrit
mean “defender of people” or “people’s Friend”. A Lok pal is an anti-corruption authority or body of om budsman who represents the public interests in the Re public of India. First Lokpal was Justice Pinaki Chandra Bose. Why this institution is required? It is absolutely nec essary because maladminis tration is like a termite which slowly erodes the foundation of a nation and hindered ad ministration from complet ing its task. Corruption is the root cause of this problem. Most of the anti-corruption agencies are hardly indepen dent. Even Supreme Court of India has been termed CBI as a ‘caged parrot’ and ‘its master’s voice’. With a strong hope that an indepen dent institution of Lokpal could be a landmark move in the history of Indian pol ity which offered a solution to the never-ending menace of corruption. The Act 2013 also provides that all states should set up the office of the Lokayukta within one year from the commencement of the Act. As provided in the Act the public servants are to make a declaration of their assets and liabilities in the form and manner given by the government. The jurisdiction of Lokpal includes Prime Minister, Minister, Member of Parlia ment, Group A, B, C & D officers & officials of Central government.
LOKAYUKTA
The word ‘Lokayukta’ is derived from Sanskrit word which means “appointed by the people”. It is an anti-cor ruption ombudsman organi zation in the Indian states and the origin of Lokayukta can be trace back to the om budsman in Scandinavian countries. Lokayukta can be defined in simple terms as an Anti-Corruption Act or it can also be considered as a watchdog to pinpoint the wrong doing of the adminis tration, to look into the com plaints of the people and to suggest measures to improve the effectiveness and effi ciency of the Government. The establishment of the institution of Lokayukta in the state is to provide clean, transparent, and accountable Government of the people. The Lokayukta Bill was passed by the Parliament
to fight against Corruption. Corruption is internation ally recognized as a major problem which is capable of threatening the Social, Economic, and Political development of a country. Corruption is anti-National, Anti-Life, Anti-Poor, and Anti-Economic develop ment. The Supreme Court also remarked that corrup tion is like disease called cancer and if not detected in time it grows bigger and big ger and it will malignise the polity of the country leading to disastrous consequence. And because of the increase of corruption in our society it gave birth to CorruptionLokayukta.meansmis use of entrusted power for private or personal gain. In the context Corruption has been deeply rooted in the field of administration as well as political and judicial system and some of the com mon corrupt practices are as follows ; i) abuse of power – using position or status to discriminate somebody or gain something from that person ii) nepotism – giv ing jobs to family, relatives and family members iii) favoritism – giving unfair opportunity to friends iv) extortion – obtained by force, threats or unfair means v) bribery – taking money to give people’s job, profession, treatment or dishonestly persuade someone for help through cash vi) embezzle ment – stealing money or resources that is under one’s control vii) fraud – making false claims for benefits, etc. States like Orissa, Ma harashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, A.P, Bihar, Rajasthan, Guja rat, M.P, Himachal Pradesh, U.P, Haryana, Goa and some others has implemented this Lokayukta and has been functioning effectively in fighting against corruption. And Karnataka Lokayukta is considered to be the most powerful institute in the country as it leads to the investigation of Karnataka Chief Minister in relating to illegal mining in the year 2011. Lokayukta is a per son who is appointed by the Governor, he must be a retired judge of the Supreme Court or a retired Chief Justice of a High Court and an independent person not holding any office of profit,
and members are not to be member of parliament or leg islature of state or connected with any political party and comprising of state vigilance commissioner and a jurist or an eminent administrator as members known as Upa-lo kayukta function together as an independent body which is free from the influence of the government, politicians, ministers, etc. They have power to search and seize any document of the public servant during investigations. The main objective of Lokayukta is to curb the menace of corruption pro viding within the State. Kezhokhoto Savi,
without meticulous planning abusing the natural resources for unlimited wants and to satiate the human greed apparently results in chaos and destruction. A question that needs to raised now is: why do we face all sorts of nature’s fury more frequently now than before? Bengaluru was as much a city of lakes and tanks with intercon nected channels as it was a city ofTheparks.chaotic pace of the city’s development, ris ing land prices and scar city of land coupled with developers’ greed and of ficial collusion and nexus with the politicians, BBMP and bureaucrats that an intricate ecosystem meant for irrigation underwent a rapid change in character. Some lakes and tanks have been overflowing with wa ter, while others including their channels have been choked by concrete from all sides, and many tanks could do with dredging to improve water-holding ca pacity. Changing patterns of climatic conditions and rain fall patterns aggravated this vulnerability. It is not cos metic treatment, but should go deep into the roots of the problem. Real estate agents and builders ignored the problem underneath while busy in giving other exterior looks and other parapher nalia that the buyers give preference.Concrete jungles such as Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and others
face the risks spawned by rapidly depleted floodplains. It was a sight to see where CEOs, techies and others were forced to travel on trac tors and boats. Some of the pictures mirror the city of Venice. If something drasti cally does not happen cities such as Bengaluru would eventually become during flash floods like Venice. Who is responsible for all these? It is certainly not the destruction of the nature, but human-made and thus triggered. Enormous cor ruption right from planning to implementation and to secure all aspects till the completion of buffer zone projects in which politicians, bureaucrats, BBMP and other agencies are fully and actively
Theinvolved.truthis if India’s cities continue to be victims of bad and corrupt plan ning and political machina tions, future disasters will continue and thus become annual feature. What hap pened recently to be taken as the glaring lesson. It is Bengaluru, a city of lakes, ponds and gardens, not a city of water. The recent rains that lashed the city of Bengaluru has mirrored the city of Venice. At this juncture, I’m reminded of Tom Morrison who thought fully expressed taking into account the world of nature in the following: “All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.”

The future of travel is intention
Travel is once again on the rise as restrictions loosen up all over the world. But now that those formative years are passed, travelling is about more than just getting away and having a good time. The Global Wellness Institute asserts that “the future of travel is intention.”Butwhat exactly does it mean to travel deliberately imply? When we travel with purpose, we can have a more profound and transforming experience that enables us to connect with our inner selves, our families, and larger com munities. What do you want to get out of your vacation experience? Is there a part of my life that would benefit from a trip to a different loca tion? And what advantages might I Listedanticipate?beloware some growing travel trends that may inspire your next trip as shared by Dr. Jason Culp, Research & Development Director,ThereChiva-Som.isnodoubt that travelling with family and/ or friends helps to foster strong relationships. Positive memories are built around shared experiences. In fact, there’s research to show that positive family interactions have health benefits for both old and young, the former offering new perspectives and vitality, and the latter sharing wisdom and Travellingexperience.todestina tions that offer intergenera tional activities can strength en the bonds between all family members, which in turn will promote the mental, emotional and social wellbe ing of a family.
REDEFINING PUR POSE
The last two years have been challenging and have left many questioning their goals, priorities and what brings meaning to life. En forced lockdowns and ac companying soul searching have ignited the urge to travel and seek purpose through new experiences. The well ness industry has embraced this intention by offering various retreats that guide guests through a constructive process of redefining and rebuilding. Meditation, quiet contemplation, and time to plan can reorient your life
around the things that give it meaning, whether spending more time on your health, your family or your interests outside of work.
TOURISMREGENERATIVE
You’ve likely heard of ‘ecotourism’ - an effort to conserve the environment and prevent any detrimen tal impact to destination hotspots. The latest trend in travel has shifted to regenera tive tourism, wherein travel lers not only do no harm but leave a positive impact on the environment and community that they’ve visited.
If the past two years have taught us anything, it is the importance of our health, both physical and mental. Nature continues to be one of the most powerful influences on wellbeing. For example, forest walks have been shown to lower inflam mation and reduce blood pressure. The microbiome of soil impacts our own internal microbial ecosystem and can promote healthy immune function. Sunlight exposure supports vitamin D produc tion, enhances mood and helps regulate the sleep cycle.
Listed below are some tips to be kept in mind when you do travel again as shared by Dr Rubia Afza Shariff, Health & Wellness Advisor, Zulal Wellness Resort by Chiva-Som:
Adjust your body clock: Your body takes a while to get accustomed to new changes. Speed up the pro cess by exposing yourself to sunlight, thereby boosting your melatonin to help you sleep.
Keep yourself hydrated: Hydration is essential for detoxification, as well as the many vital systems and func tions that keep us healthy.
Boost your immunity: Increase your intake of vi tamin-rich foods to replen ish your system after a long flight.
Exercise: Even small amounts of exercise promote the endorphins that boost mood and wellbeing.
Reduce your caffeine in take: As tempting as it is, especially when you are jetlagged, caffeine disrupts the sleep cycle.
“The time is always right to do what is right.”

The Ahmedabad crime branch had registered the case soon after the Supreme Court in June upheld the clean chit given to then Gujarat chief minister Na rendra Modi and 63 others in response to a petition filed by Zakia Jafri alleging larger conspiracy behind the 2002 violence.Investigating Officer and Assistant Commission er of Police, Special Op erations Group B V Solanki told PTI that the charge sheet was filed in the court of additional chief met ropolitan magistrate M V Chauhan.The6,300-page charge

The three accused have been charged under sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 194 (giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure con viction for capital offence), 211 (to institute criminal proceeding against a person or falsely charge him with committing an offence while knowing there is no just ground for such proceed ing), 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment) and 120 (B) (criminal con spiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
Jammu CBI court orders to produce Yasin Malik on Oct 20
JAMMU, SEP 21 (PTI):
to examine 14 issues that were identified by the agen cy after examining the tran scripts of over 5,800 taped conversations of Radia.
Over a decade ago, Radia’s phone conversations with industrialists, journal ists, government officers, and other people holding key posts were tapped as part of a tax investigation. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman emeritus Tata Sons, had moved the apex court seek ing protection of his right to privacy against the backdrop of leaked private conversa tions involving Radia.
Tata filed the petition in 2011. He had contended
that the release of the tapes amounted to infringement on his right to privacy. The case was last heard in April 2014, and the top court crys tallised the issues -- right to privacy vis-a-vis the govern ment, right to privacy vis-avis the media, and the right to information.Tatahad sought a probe into who had leaked the excerpts from the inter cepts and also a mechanism in place to guard against such indiscriminate invasion into a citizen’s privacy.
In August 2017, the apex court, in a landmark verdict, had said that privacy is a constitutional right.
A special court here on Wednesday asked the CBI to physically produce be fore it JKLF chief Yasin Malik, who is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, on Octo ber 20 in connection with the 1989 kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of then Union home min ister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The special court is sued the production war rant to the CBI for crossexamining witnesses in the case.Monika Kohli, the standing counsel for the CBI, said the court issued the production warrant despite an objection by the agency on the ground that
there are specific directions of the High Court that all accused be presented through video conference.
Rubaiya Sayeed was present in the court during the hearing, and told it she never looked back to the horrific incident as she tried to live a normal life.
JKLF chief Malik, who is one of the accused in the case, appeared before the court from the Tihar jail through video conferenc ing, once again insisting for his physical appearance to cross-examine the witness.
“The court has passed an order in the open court to produce him (Malik) physically on the next date of hearing...the production warrant has been issued
accordingly,” Kohli said, adding the Tihar Jail has direction that he should be produced before the court. On reports that Rubai ya told the court that she did not recall any of the accused present in the court or having identified any of them before the inves tigation agency, the CBI counsel said, “She had

identified Malik again on the photographs during the cross-examination. A few questions were asked to her and she has been able to answer those questions accordingly.”Lasttime, she said Rubaiya had identified five accused including Malik and “the question of iden tifying the accused again today was never there. You can verify from the court records whether she had backtracked or what she had done.”Kohli said Rubaiya will be present herself in the court on October 20 because Malik has to crossexamine her.
When mediapersons asked Kohli if she thought that a criminal “dictat ing terms to the court” on his physical appearance is “blackmailing”, she said, “I do not take it like that.”
“Everybody has a right in criminal jurispru dence or law. He has put forth his position before the court and said the cross-ex amination of the witness is not possible through Video Conference,” she said. Malik has been insist ing on the physical appear ance to cross-examine the witness and had turned down the court’s offer of legal aid or amicus in the past.

Putin orders partial mobilisation of reservists
MOSCOW, SEP 21 (PTI):
President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ordered a partial mobilisation of some 300,000 reservists after the Russian military suffered a series of setbacks in the rag ing conflict with Ukraine, saying the move was essen tial to protect Russia’s sover eignty as the “West is seek ing to weaken, divide and finally destroy this country.”
Putin made the an nouncement in a televised address to the nation in which he also said that Rus sia will use all the means at its disposal to protect its ter ritory, warning the West that “this is not a bluff”.
Ahead of his muchanticipated address, Putin had signed an Executive Or der for the call-up to start the mobilisation immediately.
Since early September, Ukraine forces have swiftly recaptured large swaths of land in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region that Russian troops took over in early weeks of the war which began on February 24.
The stretched-out frontline, the constant shell ing of Russian borderline areas by the Ukrainian mili
tary and attacks on liberated regions required the call-up of servicemen from the reserve, Putin said in his address. His speech comes a day after the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Repub lics, as well as Russiancontrolled Kherson and Za porozhye regions on Tues day announced that they would hold referendums on whether to join Rus sia from September 23-27.
Soon after Putin’s address, Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu announced that 300,000 people will be called up for service during the partial mobilisation.
“Three hundred thousand
reserve troops will be called up,” Shoigu said during a Rossiya-24 TV broadcast.
Putin’s announcement was described as a sign of “weakness” by US ambas sador in Ukraine Bridget Brink. “Sham referenda and mobilisation are signs of weakness, of Russian failure,” Brink tweeted.
“The United States will never recognise Rus sia’s claim to purportedly annexed Ukrainian terri tory, and we will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it Britishtakes.”Defence Sec retary Ben Wallace said Putin’s decision to mobilise military reservists shows

China maintains that the sovereignty and territo rial integrity of all countries should be respected, and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be adhered to, Wang said, add ing the legitimate security concerns of all countries

Reacting to Putin’s ad dress, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said he did not believe the world would allow the Russian President to use nuclear weapons.“Idon’t believe that he (Putin) will use these weap ons. I don’t think the world will allow him to use these weapons,” he told the Ger man newspaper Bild, the BBC Zelenskyreported. warned against being cowed by Pu tin’s threats, saying they would invite Russia to at tempt to take more territory. The Russian president’s announcement showed he wanted to drown Ukraine in blood - including that of his own soldiers, Zelensky said.
In his speech, Putin accused the West of mak ing attempts to weaken, di vide and ultimately destroy Russia. “They are saying openly now that in 1991 they managed to split up the Soviet Union and now is the time to do the same to Rus sia, which must be divided into numerous regions that would be at deadly feud with each other,” Putin said.
Russia ‘shamelessly violated’ UN Charter in Ukraine: Joe Biden
UNITED NATIONS, SEP 21 (AP): President Joe Biden declared at the United Nations Wednesday that Russia has “shamelessly violated the core tenets” of the UN with its “brutal, needless war” in Ukraine. He said the war is an affront to the heart of what the in ternational body stands for as he looked to rally allies to stand firm in backing the UkrainianDeliveringresistance.aforce ful condemnation of Rus sia’s seven-month invasion, Biden said reports of Rus sian abuses against civilians in Ukraine “should make your blood run cold.” And he said President Vladimir Putin’s new nuclear threats against Europe showed “reckless disregard” for Russia’s responsibilities as a signer of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. He criticised Russia for scheduling “sham ref erenda” this week in terri tory it has forcibly seized in Ukraine. “A permanent member of the UN Security Council invaded its neigh bour, attempted to erase a sovereign state from the map. Russia has shamelessly
violated the core tenets of the UN charter,” he told his UN audience.Bidencalled on all na tions, whether democracies or autocracies, to speak out against Russia’s invasion and to bolster’s Ukraine ef fort to defend itself.
“We will stand in soli darity against Russia’s ag gression, period,” Biden said. Biden also highlighted consequences of the inva sion for the world’s food supply, pledging $2.9 billion in global food security aid to address shortages caused by the war and the effects of climate change. He praised a UN-brokered effort to cre ate a corridor for Ukrainian grain to be exported by sea, and called on the agreement to be continued despite the ongoing conflict. Biden, during his time at the UN
General Assembly, also planned to meet Wednes day with new British Prime Minister Liz Truss and press allies to meet an $18 billion target to replenish the Glob al Fund to Fight AIDS, tu berculosis and malaria. But the heart of the president’s visit to the UN this year was his full-throated censure of Russia as its war nears the seven-month mark.
The address came as Russian-controlled regions of eastern and southern Ukraine have announced plans to hold Kremllinbacked referendums in days ahead on becoming part of Russia and as Moscow is losing ground in the inva sion. Putin on Wednesday announced a partial mo bilisation to call up 300,000 reservists and accused the West of engaging in “nu clear blackmail”. The WH said the global food security funding includes $2 billion in direct humanitarian as sistance through the United States Agency for Interna tional Development. The balance of the money will go to global development projects meant to boost the efficiency and resilience of the global food supply.

SARI (IRAN), SEP 21 (IANS): Women have been at the forefront of escalat ing protests in Iran sparked by the death in custody of a woman detained for break ing hijab laws, media reports said. Crowds cheered when women burned their hijabs on a bonfire in Sari on Tues day, the fifth successive day of unrest, BBC reported.
Activists said a woman was among three protesters shot dead by security forces in Urmia, Piranshahr and Kermanshah. The authori ties accused protesters of killing two civilians in Ker manshah as well as a police
assistant in Shiraz, the re port said. At least seven peo ple are now reported to have been killed since the protests against the hijab laws and morality police erupted after Mahsa Amini’s death.
The 22-year-old Kurd ish woman from the northwestern city of Saqez died in hospital on Friday, after being in coma for three days.
She was with her broth er in Tehran when she was arrested by morality police, who accused her of breaking the law requiring women to cover their hair with a hijab, or headscarf, and their arms and legs with loose clothing.
The police have denied that she was mistreated and said she suffered “sudden heart failure”. But her fam ily has said she was fit and healthy. “Mahsa Amini’s tragic death and allegations of torture and ill-treatment must be promptly, impar tially and effectively inves tigated by an independent competent authority, that ensures, in particular, that her family has access to jus tice and truth,” Nashif said.
She noted that the UN had received “numerous, and verified, videos of vio lent treatment of women” as morality police expand ed their street patrols in recent months to crack down on those perceived to be wearing “loose hijab”, BBC reported.

ISLAMABAD, SEP 21 (PTI): UNICEF has regret ted that its funding appeal for over three million chil dren in Pakistan’s floodaffected areas was still less than a third of the USD 39 million it sought, according to a senior official.
“The rains and floods have already claimed the lives of more than 550 chil dren. Without a significant surge in support, we fear many more children will lose their lives,” Unicef Pakistan chief field offi cer in Balochistan, Gerida Birukila, said. “The world needs to come together and help the children in Paki stan. Together we can save lives by delivering life-saving health, nutrition and educa tion services to every child in Pakistan who needs it the most,” Dawn newspaper quoted the representative of the United Nations Chil dren’s Fund as saying in Geneva on Tuesday.
She said that next week marked a month since cata strophic floods uprooted more than 3.4 million chil dren from their homes in

Swell ing waters have swept away villages, roads and bridges, and at one point inundated a third of Pakistan’s territory.
“Even after three weeks, large parts of flood-affected areas are still submerged under water. Many of the roads and bridges have ei ther been washed away or damaged. Thousands of families in 81 calamity-hit districts are still cut-off and desperately need support.

by Advisor for School Education & SCERT, K.T. Sukhalu, at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on September 21 (Wednesday).Speaking at the programme, Sukhalu said many aspects of its heritage, culture, and traditions are not being fully documented and asked the SCERT department to document those for the students.
“Students were often not fully aware of their culture and tradition, therefore, screening of these short films to the students should be done to infuse the feeling of pride in one’s identity”, he added. He stressed the need of counsellors for students
to mainstream the students into the right line of thinking and overall development. He also mentioned that teachers also play an important role to take responsibility for moulding the students into leaders for the future generation.Commissioner &
Secretary, School Education & SCERT, Kevileno Angami, said culture is their identity, and a person who does not know one’s culture is ignorant, and asserted that it is important that we teach our children the knowledge of our state, cultural practices, and the history.
She also said SCERT has come up with the Nagaland Heritage textbook which helps children to learn the dialect and language, cultural practices, and poems of different tribes, and with the release of the Nagaland Heritage-based films, it would supplement what is in the textbook.
Director SCERT, N. Chumchanbeni Kikon said the Nagas’ rich cultural heritage can be successfully preserved if only they value it, document it, and transmit it to the next generation. She informed that SCERT Nagaland has documented a total of 15 Naga heritage-based short films, out of which three were released in the year 2020. She also stated that the 12 Nagaland Heritage-based
short films are based on customs, practices, values, and different aspects of Naga culture which are drawn from the school subject “Nagaland Heritage Studies”. one point.Fellow Indian Ra meshbabu Praggnanand haa remains a danger in fourth, with Vietnam’s Liem Quang Le in third.
German’s Vincent Keymer lifted himself up level on 19/36 with a Round 12 win.
All five are nearly home and primed for the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event’s knock out stage which starts on Thursday along with Polish ace Jan-Krzysztof Duda.
However, a series of big names are at risk of failing to make the cut to morrow when the field of 16 is halved. These include Levon Aronian, Anish Giri
and Ukrainian legend Vasyl Ivanchuk.Hans Niemann, the controversial American who Carlsen refused to play a full game against in Round 6, briefly dropped out of the qualification spots before crushing Aro nian in just 21 moves. TOKYO, SEP 21 (IANS):
China’s Zheng Qinwen con tinued to soar in her break through season, knocking out No 1 seed Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-2 in 78 minutes in the second round of the Pan Pacific Open to reach the quarterfinals of the tourna ment, here on Wednesday.
This is the 19-yearold’s first completed Top 10 win. Previously, she had advanced over Ons Jabeur via retirement in the second round of Toronto. It puts Zheng into her third tourlevel quarterfinal of 2022, and second at WTA 500 level or above.“Itwas a big match for me. Even though the score was like this, there were a lot of emotions for me in this match and I’m very proud of myself. It’s not a surprise - I always knew I had the level, I just had to make it,” said Zheng. The teenager’s overall
record this year is now 34-15, and 19-15 at the tour level.
Having ended 2021 at No 143, she has risen to a careerhigh this week of No 36. She also came into this match in supreme form after a 6-1, 6-4 first-round defeat of Misaki Doi that had seen her win 19 points in a row.
If anything, the score line against Badosa does not do justice to Zheng’s level of dominance. She was initially
secretary general Rajeev Mehta as the main point of contact.“While I respect the views of the IOC, at some stage, when the dust has settled, I would like to ask the IOC as to who will decide and interpret the ‘Law of the Land’ and the Constitution of the NOCs in a Nation.“Willthis interpreta tion be done by the IOC or will the same be done by the Hon’ble Courts of a Nation? Once the Hon’ble Courts of a Nation have decided after due consider ation, will it be appropriate for the IOC to have a dif ferent interpretation than the findings of the Hon’ble Courts!!”Khanna, former boss of the All India Tennis Association (AITA), admit ted that the IOA is going through a tough phase.
“It is no secret that IOA has been going through a turbulent time over the last two years and with the elections ap proaching within a couple of months and also be cause of the Hon’ble High Court’s order which may affect the future of some of the affiliated members, the concerns of many in our family have heightened, resulting in continuous litigation even over the last couple of weeks.
LONDON, SEP 21 (IANS):
Swiss legend Roger Federer confirmed that he would be still involved in tennis after retire ment and told tennis fans all over the world on Wednesday that “I won’t be a ghost.”
Federer, 41, announced last Thursday that he would retire from Grand Slams and the ATP Tour after the Laver Cup held from September 23 to 25 in London.The20-time Grand Slam winner will only play one dou bles match this time in London, but he was sure that he would not leave the tennis world even though he hasn’t had any spe cific plan yet, reports Xinhua.
“I just wanted to let the fans know I won’t be a ghost,” said Federer. “Tennis has given me too much. I’ve been around the game for too long. Falling in love with too many things. I love seeing people again. That’s kind of what I wanted to let the fans know that you’ll see me again.”“But what it could be, in what capacity, I don’t know. I still have to think about it a little bit,” added Federer.
NEW DELHI, SEP 21 (PTI): The national Kabaddi Federation on Wednesday washed its hands of the incident where the players at a statelevel tournament were served food from a toilet, saying it was not, in any way, involved in the staging of the girls’ event in UP’s Saharanpur.
The kabaddi players competing at the U-16 event were served food that was kept in a toilet, prompt ing the authorities to suspend the district sports officer for laxity and blacklisting the caterer.
The incident created a furore as politicians condemned the shabby treatment meted out to the players.
“The Amateur Kabaddi Fed eration of India (AKFI) has no role in the organisation of the tournament. It was a purely a Uttar Pradesh government-related event. They (organisers) have done their own arrangement,” S P Garg, the Delhi High Court-appointed admin istrator who has been running AKFI since 2018, told PTI.
Asked how a state level tourna
ment can happen without the sanc tion from the national federation, he said, “We are in no way involved in the organisation of the tourna ment. Humara koi lene dena nahin hey (we have no concern with that). We had no information (about the tournament).”UPStateKabaddi Association secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said the tournament was not sanctioned by the AKFI nor by the state unit. He said the event was not in its an nual calendar.
slow to find the range on her forehand, and fell behind an earlyButbreak.once she had set tled, Zheng was imperious. From 3-1 down in the first set, she reeled off the next seven games, and 11 of the next 13. She did not face another break point in the match, in total, she tallied seven aces and won 82 per cent of the points behind her first serve.
The Chinese tennis player also repeatedly teed off on the Badosa serve, blitzing three clean return winners in one game to break the Spaniard at the start of the second set. She was clutch in important mo ments, too, winning three consecutive games from 30-30 to turn the first set around, and fired 18 winners overall.Though extended ex changes were few and far be tween, such was the quality of Zheng’s first strikes, she was also able to outlast the World No 4 in athletic longer rallies as well. Zheng proved adept at soaking up her op ponent’s pace; unable to find a way through, Badosa ended up with 20 unforced errors to only six winners.
Zheng will next face ei ther Elise Mertens or Claire Liu as she bids to reach her second WTA semifinal, and first at WTA 500 level.
