Correspondent SHILLONG, SEP 5: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Monday signed memo randa of understandings with nine Organisations, which included universi ties, institutes of research and higher learning and start-up industries in the presence of Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik to strengthen the research activities in the first uni versity in the North East. “In today’s time re search is the key to solv ing a lot of problems and evolving into one of the self-sufficient na tions. However, because of lack of collaborations, the growth is not being observed,” the governor noted during the course of his speech even as he gave example of the Patna University which was at one time called the ‘Oxford of East’.Malik rued that the quality of research has gone down in Indian in stitutesUniversities, and which is evident from the fact that only 10 to 12 Nobel Laureates are Indians, half of whom are foreign citizens and a few are In dians but are foreign born like Mother Teresa who received the Nobel for PeaceThePrize.Governor also stressed on the point that the government should work on investing more on education and that any education bill passed in Parliament without any debate “is a shame” as education builds the next generation and the nation. Citing example of Great Britain, Malik stated that the British government never reduced the budget on education and same should be done in India. NEHU Vice-Chancel lor, Prabha Shankar Shukla in his speech stated that it was indeed an event to be remembered wherein NEHU is getting into col laborations with nine orga nizations and added that the MoUs would provide ample scope for NEHU as well as the participating institutes and industries to collaborate in cutting edge technologies to bring about change in academia and way of doing research.

Correspondent IMPHAL, SEP 5: Five JD (U) MLAs, who have joined the ruling BJP in Manipur on Monday clarified that they have joined BJP as JD (U) withdrew from the NDA.The MLAs said that they were elected in the state Assembly on the mandate of the NDA through JD(U). In such circumstances if we continued as JD(U), it would be a betrayal of peo ple’s mandate, they claimed. Of the five turncoat MLAs who camped in New Delhi, four returned to Imphal along with chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday. Singh avoided reporters who were at the Imphal Airport and headed straight to his official resi dence. However, the four MLAs faced the reporters while coming out of the airport. To another query regarding a rumor about negotiating with a cabinet ministerial berth to one of the five MLAs, former JD(U) legislatures’ leader Kh Jaykishan said , “I have no idea on the matter. We have not dis cussed the matter and there is no pre-condition from our side.” The Speaker of Ma nipur Legislative Assembly had accepted the merger of the five JD(U) legislatures to the legislature party of the BJP, in a bulletin issued on September 2 last. On the query of sixth JD(U) MLA Md Abdul Nasir not among them while joining the BJP, Jaykishan said that he was unable to contact as he has been out of station.

TALA, SEP 5 (IANS): Four organisations of the Indian Chakma tribal communi ties on Monday demanded India and Bangladesh fully implement the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs) Accord, signed in 1997, for the de velopment and peace in the southeast region of the neighbouring country. The demand came as Bangladesh Prime Minis ter Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi on Monday on a four day visit, during which she would hold talks with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Tuesday. The Chakma tribal organisations, in a joint memorandum to both Prime Ministers, on Monday urged them to take joint measures for full implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs) Accord, signed on December 2, 1997 and de clare the CHTs as a “region of peace”.Prominent Chakma leader and former Mizoram MLA Rashik Mohan Chak ma said that though the CHTs Accord was signed 25 years ago, key provisions of the accord especially hand ing over of law and order and supervision of the three Hill District Councils of Bandarban, Khagrachari, and Rangamati to the CHTs Regional Council was not yet done.Theother provisions of the accord which are not yet implemented include with drawal of the Bangladesh Army camps established during the armed conflicts into the cantonments within the CHTs, resolution of the land disputes through the functioning of the CHTs Land Commission, and resettlement of the tribal refugees.Founder leader of the Chakma Development Foundation of India Suhas Chakma said that the impor tance of implementation of the CHT Accord for region al peace and security, espe cially for Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar cannot be stressed enough. In addition to civil unrest of indigenous people of CHTs collectively known as ‘Jummas’ due to non-implementation of the Accord, the CHTs is often used by various insurgent groups, Suhas Chakma said in a statement.Hesaidthat the armed conflicts in the Arakan prov ince of Myanmar bordering the CHTs, the expulsion of over 1.5 million Rohingyas to Bangladesh by Myan mar and the refusal of the military junta in Myanmar to repatriate any of these Rohingya refugees make the CHTs the source of regional instability and conflicts. In fact, peace in the region can be assured only through joint efforts of Bangladesh and India and meaningful participation of the indig enous ‘Jumma’ people in these efforts by empowering them for self-governance through full implementation of the CHT Accord, he said. “It is not in the inter ests of Bangladesh, India, indigenous ‘Jumma’ people to have the active civil un rests in the CHTs region or allow the region to be used for various insurgency activities, said another tribal leader Pritimoy Chakma, Convenor of the Chakma Hajong Rights Alliance (CHRA).Tripura Rejyo Chakma Gabujyya Jodha President Priya Ranjan Chakma said: “We have urged both the Prime Ministers to take measures for full and effec tive implementation of the CHT Accord, declare an economic package to assist the Bangladesh government for effective implementa tion of the CHT Accord including resettlement of the returnee ‘Jumma’ refugees from India and internally displaced persons within the CHTs in line with simi lar economic assistance provided by India to the internally displaced persons of Sri Lanka following the end of the armed conflicts with the ethnic Tamils. “Processes must be ini tiate with the Jana Samhati Samiti, the signatory to the CHT Accord and all other stakeholders of indigenous aJumma’ people to end civil unrest in the CHT region and facilitate establishment of the CHTs as a region of peace,” he said in a state ment.

Correspondent SHILLONG, SEP 5: Trib al Khasi-Pnar villagers from the disputed Block I area under administrative control of Assam on Mon day urged the Meghalaya government to denotify a 1951 notification through which Block I was trans ferred to Assam. “In an act that can be described as arbitrary, oppressive and unconsti tutional the area known as Block 1 of the United Khasi and Jaintia Hills dis trict were forcibly excluded and tagged with the then Mikir Hills Autonomous district council,” LNPRAC argued in its petition to the government.LNPRAC Gener al Secretary Marcus M Thaiang said, said the de cision to transfer the area to Assam has come at the cost of human rights viola tion and severe oppression of the people which has continued till date. “We have faced depri vation, threats, assaults and killings as well as criminal intimidation in all forms. The “historical act of op pression” must be recti fied,” Thaiang said. Noting that the KhasiJaintia land is “inalien able” to the identity of the people. the LNPRAC demanded that Block 1 is resolved with the trans fer of the area under the administrative control of Meghalaya.Theresidents of Block I and II have been meeting the government officials frequently as the second phase of the boundary dis pute talks between Megha laya and Assam would beginThesoon.second phase of border talks between As sam and Meghalaya began on AugustMeghalaya21. Manish Sisodia (PTI) NEW DELHI, SEP 5 (PTI): Stepping up its attack on the AAP, the BJP released a “sting operation” video on Monday that purportedly showed the father of a liquor scam accused claiming to have paid “commission” to acquire liquor licences in Delhi and demanded the sacking of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. “The modus operandi as revealed in the video is that 80 per cent of the profit will go to (Chief Minister Arvind) Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and their friends. First, you give us our 80-per cent commission and then sell the 20 per cent however you can, we do not care. This has been the policy of Kejriwal,” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra told reporters here. At a press conference with Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta and Lok Sabha mem ber Manoj Tiwari, Patra released the “sting opera tion” video featuring Kul vinder Marwah, the father of Sunny Marwah, the ac cused number 13 in the liquor scam case. “It is an open-and-shut case because Marwahji himself is admit ting all these in this video,” he said. The BJP leader said more such videos will come out in the future and appealed to all liquor con tractors to come forward and expose the “corruption” without“Wefear.asked Arvind Ke jriwal and Manish Sisodia five questions regarding the new excise policy. However, the questions remain unan swered and therefore, we have come here to expose them through a sting opera tion,” Patra added. He said it is clear from the sting operation that the AAP government in Delhi “invited blacklisted compa nies and gave contracts to them”. The sting operation also establishes that Kejri wal and Sisodia “took out 80 per cent revenue from the pockets of the people of Delhi and put them in the pockets of their friends through brokerage”, Patra said.

He was also looking into the legal is sues related to a false FIR against me. “He was being pressured to build a false case, make it legally sound and grant permission to arrest me. He was not al lowing this. There was so much pressure on him... he could not bear it and died by suicide,” Sisodia alleged at a pressHeconference.saidhe is deeply hurt by the unfortunate in cident and sympathizes with the family of the officer. “I want to tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi that if you want to frame me in a false case, go ahead. You had raids conducted against me. You filed a false case against me. If you want to arrest me, tell me where you want me to come and I will be there. But don’t pressure officers so much that they commit suicide,” Sisodia said. He alleged that the prime minister is always thinking about how he can use the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate to destabilise governments in non-BJP states or poach MLAs of opposition par ties. “When will you (PM) think about constructing schools, hospitals, reducing inflation and generating employment?“Towhat extent will you torture your own offi cials? Is running ‘Operation Lotus’ the only job of the central government? How many more sacrifices will it take to crush democratically elected opposition govern ments,” the deputy chief minister asked. On August 25, the ruling AAP alleged that 40 of its Delhi MLAs were offered Rs 20 crore each by the BJP to switch sides under ‘Operation Lo tus’ but the legislators re fused the offer.

NEW DELHI, SEP 5 (PTI): The Congress on Monday asserted that its ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Kashmir to Kanyakumari is not a ‘Mann Ki Baat’ in any manner, but its objec tive is to ensure t hat the concerns and demands of the people reach Delhi. The Opposition party released the anthem of the Yatra, that will be launched from Kanyakumari from September 7 with Rahul Gandhi along with over 100 ‘Bharat Yatris’ em barking on a 3,570 km metres journey. The party has billed the Yatra as an unprecedented mass con tact programme ever under taken in Independent India. The Yatra anthem was launched at the AICC headquarters here at a press conference addressed by party general secretary incharge communications Jairam Ramesh who said its lyrics -- ‘Ek tera kadam, ek mera kadam, mil jaye, jud jaye apna watan’ -- sig nify the objective of the Yatra.“Bharat Jodo Yatra, in no way in any form, is a Mann Ki Baat. It is about the concern for people. Its objective is to ensure that the concerns and demands expressed by the people reach Delhi,” he said in a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio“Itbroadcast.(Yatra)is not about long speeches, preaching, dramatics, teleprompter, we are going to listen,” he said, adding that the Bharat Yatris, including Rahul Gandhi, who will walk the entire distance of the Yatra, are embarking on the jour ney with that objective. Ramesh said there is a need for “Bharat Jodo” be cause the country is being divided. “The first reason for the division is economic disparities, the second be ing social polarisation and the third political centrali sation as states’ rights are being snatched away. So it is important to unite the country now. If not now, then when,” he said. Asked who will be leading the Yatra and when a new Congress president is elected on October 19, will there be a change in leadership of the Yatra, Ramesh said Rahul Gandhi is not leading the Yatra, but walking along others to highlight the issues of the people.Ramesh said the Yatra will also be live streamed on its official website. Before the launch of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ on September 7, Rahul Gan dhi will take part in a prayer meeting at former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial in Sriperumbu dur and attend an event in Kanyakumari where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel will be present and the former Congress chief will be handed over a Khadi national flag, Ramesh said. After the event at the Mahatma Gandhi Man dapam where Stalin will be present, Rahul Gandhi, along with other Congress leaders, will walk to the venue of the public rally where the yatra will be launched.Though the 3,570-km yatra from Kanyakumari to Srinagar will be formally launched at the rally, it will actually begin at 7 am on September 8 when Gandhi and several other Congress leaders will embark on the journey. Before the launch of the yatra, Rahul Gandhi will also visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruval luvar Statue and Kamaraj Memorial in Kanyakumari. The ‘padayatra’ will move in two batches, one from 7-10:30 am and the other from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. While the morning session will include a lesser number of participants, the evening session will see mass mobilisation. On an average, the padyatris will walk around 22-23 km daily, Ramesh said.

Bharat Jodo Yatra is no Mann Ki Baat; aims to convey people’s concerns: CongRANCHI, SEP 5 (PTI): The Hemant Soren gov ernment in Jharkhand on Monday won the confi dence vote in the Assembly by a comfortable margin, helping the politically-savvy tribal leader consolidate his hold over the state despite fears that his MLAs would be poached to bring down the JMM-led regime. As many as 48 MLAs voted in favour of the confidence motion in the 81-member Assembly -- 29 of the JMM, 15 of the Congress, one each of RJD, NCP and CPIML(L) and an Independent – even as the opposition BJP-led NDA walked out of the House. Speaking during the special session, Soren said the need for the trust vote was felt as the BJP was “attempting to destabilise democratically elected gov ernments” in non-BJP-ruled states, including themettheandisqualificationpetitiontosentreportedAugustprevailing“UncertaintyJharkhand.hadbeeninthestatesince25afterthemediathattheECIhasitsrecommendationgovernor(overBJP’sseekingSoren’sasMLAinoffice-of-profitcase).Butgovernorisstillsilent.“AnUPAdelegationhimurginghimtoclearair.Heassuredthem that there will be clarity in two-three days. Three Congress MLAs were arrested in neighbouring Bengal carry ing huge amounts of cash, which it is claimed was being carted to “buy” other MLAs into a revolt. Taking a dig at the BJP, Soren said that the party, after having made a tribal woman the president of the country, is now trying to snatch power from a tribal CM. “People purchase com modities in market, but the BJP buys legislators,” he al leged, adding that the UPA will give the BJP-led NDA a befitting reply in 2024 Lok SabhaJMMelectionsMLA Sudivya Kumar, during the session, raised the slogan ‘Hemant hai to viswas hai’ (In Hemant we trust). In a jibe at the Sorenled government, Leader of Opposition Babulal Ma randi, however, pointed out, “Neither the governor nor the opposition had asked for the trust vote exercise. “The chief minister tabled the motion as he wanted to show the country that the MLAs, on whom he himself has no trust, are with his “Thegovernment.entirecountry got to see the way MLAs were taken to Raipur in a chartered flight. This is enough proof that Soren has no trust in his MLAs,” Marandi asserted.

Stay here and watch with Me. —Matthew 26:38 “Watch with Me.” Jesus was saying, in effect, “Watch with no private point of view at all, but watch solely and entirely with Me.” In the early stages of our Christian life, we do not watch with Jesus, we watch for Him. We do not watch with Him through the revealed truth of the Bible even in the circumstances of our own lives. Our Lord is trying to introduce us to identification with Himself through a particular “Gethsemane” experience of our own. But we refuse to go, saying, “No, Lord, I can’t see the meaning of this, and besides, it’s very painful.” And how can we possibly watch with Someone who is so incomprehensible? How are we going to understand Jesus sufficiently to watch with Him in His Gethse mane, when we don’t even know why He is suffer ing? We don’t know how to watch with Him— we are only used to the idea of Jesus watching with us. The disciples loved Jesus Christ to the limit of their natural capacity, but they did not fully under stand His purpose. In the Garden of Gethsemane they slept as a result of their own sorrow, and at the end of three years of the closest and most intimate relationship of their lives they “all…forsook Him and fled” (Matthew 26:56). “They were all filled with the Holy Spirit…” (Acts 2:4). “They” refers to the same people, but something wonderful has happened between these two events— our Lord’s death, resurrection, and as cension— and the disciples have now been invaded and “filled with the Holy Spirit.” Our Lord had said, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” (Acts 1:8). This meant that they learned to watch with Him the rest of their lives.

OPINION/EDITORIAL6 Nagaland Post VOL. XXXII NO. 272 DIMAPUR, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2022 NAGALAND POST, DIMAPUR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2022
As Nagaland observes Peace Day on Septem ber 6, it would be worthwhile reminiscing on how it came to being. The first cease fire at tains 58 years on September 6,2022. Its story began violent hostilities plunged the erstwhile Naga hills during the fifties. During those dark days, villages were grouped and people placed behind barricades. The inhuman suffering of the people was indescrib able. In order to save the innocent people from such humungous tragedies which went unmentioned in the national media, Baptist Church leaders led by Rev. Longri Ao and Rev.Kenneth Kerhuo decided to prevail upon the battling sides to give peace a chance. At the third Baptist Convention in Wokha town from January 31 to February 2, 1964, the Bap tist Church resolved to play the role of peacemakers under the leadership of Rev.Longri Ao and Kenneth Kerhuo. During the three-day convention, more than five thousand Nagas attended the convention where it was resolved to propose “Peace talk”. At the church’s request, the government of India agreed to utilize the services of Jaya Prakash Narayan(the first director of the Peace Mission) which also included Rev.Michael Scott (of the Anglican Church) and then chief minister of Assam, B.P.Chaliha. The relentless endeavour of the Peace Mission actively supported by the church leaders headed by Rev. Longri Ao and help and patronage of the State Government, finally resulted in an agreement for Cessation of Fire signed by the then Governor Vishnu Sahay, on behalf of the Government of India and the Peace Mission while Zashei Huire, Biseto Medom and L. Benito had signed on behalf of the FGN. Although the agreement was officially declared on September 6, 1964 it was actually signed on May 23, 1964 at Sakraba Village in Phek district. The declaration of Naga cease fire on September 6,1964 led to erup tion of joy as church bells rang to herald peace. Six rounds of negotiations was held between the gov ernment of India under prime minister Indira Gandhi and the FGN led by its ato kilonser Kughato Sukhai. After six rounds of inconclusive negotiations, starting from February 1966, talks eventually broke down on October 3,1967. Jaya Prakash Narayan quit the Peace Mission, while Rev.Michael Scott was deported for allegedly favouring the Naga group. The Peace Mission was disbanded in 1972 after the government of India unilaterally abrogated the cease fire on August 31,1972. However, the church under Rev.Longri continued to pursue peace and this led to formation of the Nagaland Peace Centre in 1974. The Nagaland Peace Centre was headed initially by Dr.Longri after which Dr.M.Aram was made its director. The Peace Centre did its best to be a mediator but then Indira Gandhi refused to talk anymore till the NNC gave up its demand for sov ereignty. Though eventual peaceful solution did not materialise, yet the 1964 cease fire was mainly due to the relentless efforts by the church. Even today, the challenge to secure a final and lasting solution, if it could be achieved, would be a befitting tribute to those leaders who believe in peaceful resolution. The challenges are not easy. The private sec tor, despite some increase in jobs post-covid, is not good paymaster. Actual job data are not known. There have been overall cuts in wages even in the best of the companies apart many layoffs and retrenchments. Many data are being col lated. The severity needs to be gauged. The public sector that was adding to the job figures of late goes through an uncertainty with many units on the sale block. The railways known to be employing the highest numbers have decided to do away with large number of jobs and turn many others into short-term contracts. The job creation needs a policy change but not on the cards for now. The government has chosen to compromise on salary bills because high fiscal deficit. The advisors need to tell the government that it may visibly bring down the wage bill but may cause severe difficulties for the country as more jobs are actually lost leading to a vortex of low consumption, penury and likely rise in crimes. In pursuit of peaceful resolution
O n the 58th year of Peace Day, the JD (U) fondly honour and recall the Nagaland Baptist Churches Council’s (NBCC) initiative for Constituting the Peace Mis sion and reposing faith on our party’s mentor Jaya Prakash Narayan who is loving called as JP. Our party reiterates its commitment to contributing towards lasting peace in Na galand. The JDU party is built on the foundation of the supreme sacrifices made by its leaders and is proud that its leaders played a prominent role in the struggle against the dictatorship during the JP movement which resulted in the withdrawal of Emergency. Hence, the JD(U) claims the rightful legacy of Jaya Prakash Narayan. JP was one of the first leaders in India to argue about a civilisational unity in India which preceded its political unity. JP travelled to remote parts of Nagaland and inter acted with Nagas and made efforts to forge Peace in Na galand and showed incredible comprehension and empathy about the history and origin of the Nagas. He gained the con fidence of the common people and the Naga Baptist Church Council but sadly certain lead ers let him down. The peace mission was formed by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council. Taking help from the representatives / lead ers of the Church, federal Naga leaders, the state Government and the Union Government, the Peace Mission achieved a breakthrough for the first time to a certain extent. During one of his trips to Nagaland in 1966, JP remembered with gratitude the wholehearted support de clared by the liaison committee of the NBCC and believed that the peace proposals put forward by the Peace Mission was the only possible approach to a peaceful settlement.
During the last one hun dred years of the Naga Political Movement, Nagaland has seen enough of bloodshed… We want to add a word of caution to the ruling party at the Centre, the State Over ground and Underground Naga leadership, all political parties and civil society organisations that they not only should de sist from putting spanner in the works but also should do nothing to derail the ongoing talks between the GOI and the Naga Underground Groups. Everyone must understand that these negotiations are delicate and sensitive in nature. And no one should say anything which would in any way affect theseIttalks.may be recalled that the Peace Mission of Shri JP Narayan, Michael Scott and BP Chaliha accepted the claim of the Nagas that “the Nagas have not surrendered their Sov ereignty to anyone” and also the claim of the Government of India that “Nagaland as a part of India has historical jus tification as it is undeniable that when British Govt handed over power to India, Nagaland was a part of the Indian territory.” Unfortunately, JP had to resigned from Peace Mission because of differences with certain leaders. But even after that JP who was a strong votary of Co-operative Federalism on the one hand tried to convince the Government of India that “India is a voluntary and indis soluble union of states, and the sovereignty that resides with the Indian people is divided between union and the states by mutual agreement and for mutual benefit. All parts are equal and that states are not colonies or slaves of the union”. For such principle, JP tried to prevail upon the Naga people that they may on their own volition share a part of their sovereignty with the In dian Union for mutual benefit, retaining the rest of the sover eignty themselves. By doing so, JP was of the thought that he Nagas would not in any way lose their sovereignty or become a colony or slave of anyone. They would continue to be sovereign people along with their Indian brethren. He was of the opinion that some part of the Sovereignty should be shared and, in that man ner, should be settled across the table during negotiations between the Federal Govern ment of Nagaland (FGN) and the GOI during talks that was goingInon.the context of solution to the points of contention for peace in Nagaland, JP asked Nagas to take a leaf from the British nation which has at least 3 sub-nations namely English, Scottish and Welsh. And the British Constitution gave to the Scottish and Welsh national minorities certain rights and guarantees. For it was JP’s belief that a Sovereign State of Nagaland outside the Indian Union was unthinkable for India, but a Sovereign State of Nagaland becoming a member of the Indian Union was prac ticable and negotiable. On the question Right to self-determination, JP was of the opinion that it was not an unlimited right. Because, if the right of self-determination was enforced indiscriminately, very few modern nations would remain whole; it would end in general dismemberment and world disorder. And that International laws itself recog nised these limitations. In this regard, JP’s humble advise to the Nagas and the GOI was that each side must take into sympathetic consideration the difficulties of the other. In the light of the above, while urging the Union Gov ernment to do all that it can to solve the Indo-Naga imbroglio by honouring all its succes sive commitments made to the Naga people, the JDU also appeal to the Negotiating Groups of the Nagas to show maturity and large heartedness in understanding the ground realities so that a long lasting peace could be found . That would be a great tribute to Jaya Prakash Narayan and will also allow to rest in peace the souls of Naga Martyrs who has laid down their lives for the cause of Naga sovereignty. Nuh, for having highlighted the importance of the battle of 1851, the bloodiest battle ever fought in the North East Frontier Hills, between the Britishers and the warriors of Kikrüma village, in the article ‘Appeal to the GoI for early solution’ that appeared in the Post-mortem section of Nagaland Post, on 3.9.2022. However, in the said article, the date of the battle was mentioned as ‘February 20th, 1851’, which must have been inadvertently entered or a typingBecause, error.the ‘Bloodiest Battle’, and more importantly, ‘the forgot ten’ Battle was fought on 11th February, 1851, and not as rendered. Reader’s Post Shivaji Sarkar I ndian politics and econ omy are queering the pitch. Politically feeble attempts are there with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandshekaar Rao making the first move for talks with Bihar CM and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar and RJD for cobbling up a difficult conglomeration or not. Economically, it is a chal lenge despite a first-quarter growth of 13.5 percent but less than expectation of the RBI and job growth of 7.6 percent that may not match the overall decline including that in the public sector. Core sector has grown but a rate slower at 4.5 percent in July against 13.2 percent in June. The fis cal deficit at 20.5 percent even with Rs 30,307 crore dividends from RBI, Rs 7867 crore from public sector banks falls short of expected revenue genera tion. Even with the latest GST collection of Rs 1.44 lakh crore, 28 percent rise, the total revenue is unable to match the high govern ment expenses and infra investment.Theeconomic affairs ministry secretary Ajai Seth says that there are challenges due to oil price now rising to $ 102 a bar rel, possible slowdown in advanced economies and likely impact on exports despite the fact India is much better placed than otherThereeconomies.were sharp barbs on the economy by K Chandrashekar Rao in Patna saying all sectors are in disarray. But it seemed Bihar Chief Minister Nit ish Kumar avoided making any comment. Despite the hype, it is apparent that the opposition is yet to pick up the threads or do a study to challenge the economic indicators. Their challenge to the BJP remains cosmetic as of now. The revelry in the BJP camp at the sudden move of Nitish Kumar to leave the press meet speaks volumes.Overall there is a swing in the economic indica tors. The GDP growth to Rs 36.85 lakh crore, lower by 2.7 percentage points of RBI forecast, remains one of the best in post pandemic situation even as the country grapples with a difficult situation. It bars the opposition from taking an advantageous situation as the overall numbers are no less impressive. The GDP in the first quarter is above the pre-pandemic level. Further indications also come from the data that both private consump tion and investments have surpassed pre-covid marks. The RBI in August MPC has lowered growth rates to 7.2 percent but SBI puts it at 6.8, Goldman Sachs 7 and Moody’s at 5.2. In subsequent quarters growth is predicted to moderate. The farm sector has robust growth at 4.5 per cent 17.6torserviceswhilesecgrewatpercent.
Private con sumption, a key driver, rose by 25.9 percent indicating aspirational purchases and gross fixed capital forma tions are on the rise. The manufacturing sector rise has been at 4.8 percent against 49 percent a year ago indicate that still a lot remains to be corrected. Correction on Rev. Dr. V. K. Nuh’s article
JP was very modest and was on record to have stated that “It was because of the Church leaders that ceasefire agreement was signed and for the Peace that reigned over Nagaland then, more than the Peace Mission, it was the NBCC to which people should be beholden”. JP believed that peaceful settlement is impos sible so long as both sides of the dispute are not prepared for give and Jayaprakashtake.simplified the complex issues and tirelessly worked for a solution that could preserve the Sovereignty of the Nagas as well as the preserve the Integrity of India which were the main points of con tention. JP enjoyed so much trust of the NBCC that he was made one of the 3 members of the Peace Mission which was constituted by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council. At a time when both sides were engaged in negotiations at multiple levels which are in advanced stages, the JD(U) ap preciates the political parties of all shades of ideological divide that are engaged in talks for a negotiated settlement for lasting peace. Our party also wants to congratulate the different civil societies and students’ bod ies who are sincerely striving towards bringing long lasting peace by giving its cooperation for the peace talks.

Employees have needs, in line with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. Based on the level of hierarchy an employee is on, different employees will have dif ferent types of needs. If the com pany’s culture and values keep this aspect in their mind, the chances of employees being sincere in that organisation becomes high. Unless this aspect is present in the mind of the entrepreneur, right at the time of inception of the enterprise, it becomes difficult for the enterprises to have a solid foundation, on which larger estab lishments can be built. Hence, an entrepreneur needs to understand and define their What, How and Why of their enterprise right in the beginning. Failure to do so will make the life of the entrepreneur and the employees stressful subsequently. The what, how and why will define the mission, vision and the DNA of the enterprise, which are extremely important for the enter prises to get into the infinite game of business. (Additional reading: The Infinite Game book by Simon Sinek)It is advised to the entrepre neurs to search and finalize what is their value system. There is nothing wrong in profit making. Businesses are meant to do that for their shareholders. But Money being the only value can take the enterprise to wrong and illegal pursuits, which are definitely not good in the long run. The values, on which the life should be run, is known to every body alive through their ancestors and spiritual teachings. We just need to pick some and inculcate that into the organisation, so that everyone follows the same value. But a small warning, here. People who join the company as employ ees, have their own value system inbuilt already. It is the task of the entrepreneur to integrate these two different value systems for the com bined growth of both the enterprise and the employees.
The 58th Naga Peace Day: Remembering Jaya Prakash Narayan C ulture is our identity, our root and it existed before we came in the picture. It is the identity that we inherited by being born in or joining a race, a country, an organisation or a society. All said and done, culture defines us. This is the culture the entre preneur has to decide and define at the time of inception. She has to be clear in her mind, as how the company will be run from a “value” point of view. She will need to stick to it, if she wants the future employees of the company to keep on maintaining the culture initiated by her. Like an individual, organiza tions also take the culture of their founders and their values. When more people join the company, it is likely that the culture gets diluted, if the newcomers are not reminded about the founders’ values. It can sustain only when everyone adheres to the same set of culture. Hence, if we want to retain our culture, we need to keep re membering it and reminding the employees of the same. In Unity is the strength and in being united by a common culture one feels cared and protected. One feel rooted, strong, without any fear and hence, gives their best in whatever they do. Organizations can benefit from this concept, if they build and sustain its unique culture. Let us try to understand how a company grows. The company feels a need of its product/service in the society, and the wherewithal to produce the same at competi tive rates. The enterprise will need financial and technical capabilities to begin with, and of course, logis tics and other support services to place their product/services in the market place. If we compare two similar companies with all similar capa bilities, the company with more sincere employees will have a better productivity rate and hence, higher profit. This has been proven time and gain by many business research including leading organizations like Harvard business Review.

NEW DELHI, SEP 5 (PTI): The Supreme Court on Monday admonished the Centre for filing an appeal after a delay of 737 days, saying the apex court is not a “walk-in place” they can approach whenever they want. The top court dismissed the application seeking condo nation of delay with a cost of Rs 25,000 which will be recovered from the officers responsible for its belated filing. When the counsel ap pearing for the government said there is money at stake in the matter, a bench of Justices S K Kaul and A S Oka shot back, “Are we money collectors for the government?” “Not at all,” the counsel responded. A displeased bench observed the petitioner seeks to file the civil appeal after a delay of 737 days and expects the court to “condone the same because it happens to be the Gov ernment of India”. At the outset, the counsel representing the government said the issue is about payment of interest post-imposition of penalty. “You know I have imposed cost in these matters of government coming with delay,” Justice Kaul said, adding, “You want to save the skin of your officers, that is the whole problem.” When the govern ment’s counsel said an important question of law is there in the matter, the bench said it would con sider the same in an appro priateIncase.its order, the apex court noted the explana tion given for the delay of 737 days in filing the appeal and said there is no sufficient cause to condone it. “We have been faced with a number of cases of this kind where the depart ment has a view as if the Supreme Court of India is a walk-in place to approach whenever they feel like,” it said. The apex court said it has passed several orders in matters where government has filed appeal before it after “Thus, delay. we must follow the same path as followed earlier and dismiss the ap plication for condonation of delay with a cost of Rs 25,000 to be recovered from the officers respon sible for the delay,” it said, ordering the certificate of recovery be filed within two months.Thebench asked a copy of its order to be placed before the secretary concerned to the Govern ment of TheIndia.court clarified since the appeal has been dismissed on the grounds of limitation, it has not examined the matter on merits.“We have to be con sistent in what we do,” the bench told the govern ment’s counsel, adding, “At least your tax department has started filing appeals in time after 10-15 orders.” to condone delay in appeal Centre, says court not ‘walk-in place’ Court of India

Targeting the ruling BJP, he said it built the world’s tallest statue of Sar dar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat, while on the other hand, it insulted him by working against those for whom Patel lived and died. “The BJP government here will waive loans of top industrialists, but have you ever heard that they waived loans of farmers? I promise to waive loans of up to Rs 3 lakh of each farmer after we come to power in Gujarat.” Gandhi said that Con gress will grant a loan waiv er to farmers as it had done in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Kar nataka. “Wherever we came to power, we said our first job will be to do what Sar dar Patel would have done. Here too, we will waive the loan of (up to) Rs 3 lakh (of farmers),” he said. “We will open 3,000 English medium schools and provide free educa tion to girls. Thousands of schools were shut down by the BJP government. They built the statue of Sardar Patel and on the other hand, shut down thousands of schools,” the former Con gress president said. The Congress leader said the biggest thing he wanted to do is to end un employment and inflation. “The truth is that 2 to 3 billionaires cannot provide jobs. Jobs are provided by small businesses and farm ers. Until there is a govern ment of farmers and small and medium businessmen, jobs cannot be created in this state. The Congress’ focus will be on providing jobs to youth and our government will provide jobs to 10 lakh youths,” he Attackingsaid. the BJP, Gandhi said, “For whom did Sardar Patel fight for and why? Sardar Patel was not just a human being. You built the statue of his body, but he was not just a human, he was the voice of the farmers of Gujarat and India. Whatever he said was for the benefit of the farm ers of Gujarat and India”. He said the three Central agricultural laws -- which were later repealed by the Narendra Modi government -- were meant to take away the rights of the farmers. “Farmers from across the country came out on roads, and the BJP says it fights for the rights of farmers. On one hand, they built the tallest statue of Sardar Patel, and on the other hand, they attacked all those for whom Sardar Patel fought and sacrificed his entire life. What is the meaning of the statue?” he wondered. Gandhi alleged the BJP in Gujarat has cap tured all the institutions, and the fight here is not between two political parties but with every institution which has been captured by the ruling party.

On the next 25 years of reforms and growth, she said by the time India cel ebrates the first centenary of independence, “we will have to reset lots of things so that we become a developed nation by then. I t Hurts Your Heart Scientists first no ticed something was up in a study that compared two similar groups: transit drivers, who sit most of the day, and conductors or guards, who don’t. Though their diets and lifestyles were a lot alike, those that sat were about twice as likely to get heart disease as those that stood. It Can Shorten Your Life You’re more likely to die earlier from any cause if you sit for long stretches at a time. It doesn’t help if you exercise every day or not. Of course, that’s no excuse to skip the gym. If you do that, your time may be even shorter. Dementia Is More Likely If you sit too much, your brain could look just like that of someone with dementia. Sitting also raises your risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, which all play a role in the condition. Moving throughout the day can help even more than exercise to lower your risk of all these health problems. You’ll Undo All That Exercise The effects of too much sitting are hard to counter with exercise. Even if you work out 7 hours a week -- far more than the suggested 2-3 hours -- you can’t reverse the effects of sitting 7 hours at a time. Don’t throw away all that hard work at the gym by hitting the couch for the rest of the day. Keep mov ing! Your Odds of Diabe tes Rise Yup, you’re more like ly to have it, too, if you sit all day. And it isn’t only because you burn fewer calories. It’s the actual sit
Why sitting too much is bad for your health?
ting that seems to do it. It isn’t clear why, but doctors think sitting may change the way your body reacts to insulin, the hormone that helps it burn sugar and carbs for energy. You Could Get DVT Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a clot that forms in your leg, often because you sit still for too long. It can be serious if the clot breaks free and lodges in your lung. You might notice swelling and pain, but some people have no symptoms. That’s why it’s a good idea to break up long sitting sessions. You’ll Gain Weight Watch a lot of TV? Surf the web for hours on end? You’re more likely to be overweight or obese. If you exercise every day, that’s good, but it won’t make a huge dent in extra weight you gain as a result of too much screen time Your Anxiety Might Spike It could be that you’re often by yourself and en gaged in a screen-based activity. If this disrupts your sleep, you can get even more anxious. Plus, too much alone time can make you withdraw from friends and loved ones, which is linked to social anxiety. Scientists are still trying to figure out the exact cause. It Wrecks Your Back The seated position puts huge stress on your back muscles, neck, and spine. It’s even worse if you slouch.Look for an ergo nomic chair -- that means it’ll be the right height and support your back in the proper spots. But re member: No matter how comfortable you get, your back still won’t like a long sitting session. Get up and move around for a minute or two every half hour to keep your spine in line. It Leads to Varicose Veins Sit for too long and blood can pool in your legs. This puts added pres sure in your veins. They could swell, twist, or bulge -- what doctors call vari cose veins. You may also see spider veins, bundles of broken blood vessels nearby. They usually aren’t serious, but they can ache. Your doctor can tell you about treatment options if you need them.

Older adults who aren’t active may be more likely to get osteoporo sis (weakened bones) and could slowly become un able to perform basic tasks of everyday life, like taking a bath or using the toilet. While moderate exercise won’t prevent it, you don’t have to go out and run a marathon or take up farm ing to stay mobile in your golden years. Just don’t plant yourself on the couch for hours at a time. Your Cancer Risk Goes Up You may be more likely to get colon, endo metrial, or lung cancer. The more you sit, the higher the odds. Older women have higher odds of breast can cer. That doesn’t change if you’re super-active. What matters is how much you sit. How to Take a Stand Work more movement into your day: Stand up and stretch every half hour or so. Touch your toes. Take a stroll around the office. Stand at your desk for part of the day. Get a desk that raises or make your own: Set your computer on top of a box. Talk to your boss about a treadmill desk. All these things can help stop the negative effects of uninterrupted sitting and keep you on the road to good health.

PARIS, SEP 5 (RE UTERS): Paris St Germain will need all their resources if they are to shine on all fronts this season, and it means that their formidable ‘MNM’ attacking trio will need to take a break at times, whether they like it or not. While Mauricio Po chettino would rarely re place Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe or Neymar, his suc cessor Christophe Galtier has not hesitated to put the Brazilian on the bench on Saturday, three days before their Champions League opener against Juventus. Neymar came on around the hour mark but it was Mbappe who made way for his fellow forward in their 3-0 win at Nantes and the France player did not show any sign of frustra tion. Messi is the one who played the most among the three, although he was also recalled to the bench in the closing stages against Mo naco and Galtier,Toulouse.whotook over this season, had warned that the team would come first, and he has been true to his word as PSG scored a record 24 goals in their opening six league matches. “I talked about it twice – once with each of them and once with the whole squad, to tell them that this is how it was going to be and that we had to have the right attitude and accept it,” said Galtier. With a packed schedule with the World Cup looming in the Euro pean autumn, Galtier said there was little choice. “You say it’s new, but it’s an obligation for every one because of the very busy schedule,” he explained. “We play a lot, every three days, then every four days, then there is the World Cup. India went in with five bowling options against Pakistan on Sunday and it did not work out in their favour as Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a rare off day. After a match-winning effort in the opening game against Pakistan, Hardik Pandya proved expensive and so was Yuzvendra Cha hal, who has not at been his best in the tournament. The five-bowler theory also makes Hardik’s four overs more critical. Axar Patel, who is a like for like replacement for Jadeja, can be brought into the playing eleven to lend more bal ance.Avesh Khan, who was unwell ahead of the Paki stan clash, can also come back as the third specialist pacer. While Rahul Dravid stressed that India would be looking to play their best eleven in the lead up to the World Cup, the Rohit Sharma-led side continues to experiment.Withthe intense de bate over Rishabh Pant versus Dinesh Karthik in the team, the management gave a go to Deepak Hooda at the expense of the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter, who hardly got to bat in the first twoThegames.bowling resources may not be enough at the moment but India need to decide quickly on their middle-order.Thebiggest positive out of the Pakistan game was the performance of the high-profile top-order. So we are thrilled that the fans are coming back this season and it is the best news for a team like us,” said Chhetri.Fansacross the coun try will be welcomed back into the stands after a gap of two years. DUBAI/ NEW DELHI, SEP 5 (IANS/PTI): The cricketing fraternity has come out strongly in support of India’s young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh over his dropped catch of Paki stan batter Asif Ali, who went on to apply the finish ing touches for Pakistan in their successful chase of 182 in a thrilling Super Four matchInhere.thethird ball of the 18th over, when Pakistan needed 32 runs off 15 balls, Ali had slog-swept off legspinner Ravi Bishnoi. But he got a thick top-edge, which flew towards short third man. Arshdeep, stationed there, put down the sitter as the ball went through his hands. If Arshdeep had taken the catch, Ali would have been out for a duck. Eventually, Arshdeep trapped Ali lbw in the final over with a pin-point yorker. But by then, he had made 16 runs off eight balls. But with two needed off the last two balls, Pakistan won it as Iftikhar Ahmed got the needed runs with a drive down the Evenground.before the run was completed, Arshdeep had flicked out the bails at the non-striker’s end in disappointment. His teammates had run in to pat his back and console him after the match ended, where Ar shdeep had figures of 1/27 in 3.5 overs. Unsurprisingly, he was viciously trolled on social media due to drop ping Ali’s catch and it led many people in the cricket ing world to tweet out in support of him. “Stop criticising young @arshdeepsinghh No one drop the catch purposely.. we are proud of our boys .. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform bout arsh and team.. Arsh is GOLD,” tweeted former India offspinner Harbhajan Singh. Opener Abhinav Mu kund recalled on Twitter how he had felt after drop ping Steve Smith on 37 at short-leg during the 2017 Pune Test. Smith went on to hit a match-winning century for Australia. He asked fans to not be harsh on Arshdeep over his dropped catch. “After dropping steve smith in the pune test, i was absolutely inconsolable for hours alone in my room. I really hope @arshdeeps inghh doesnt feel that way. He will be more gutted than anyone else in our country tonight. Lets cut him some slack!”
LONDON, SEP 5 (AGEN CIES): Former world heavy weight champion Andy Ruiz Jr knocked Luis Ortiz down three times en route to a unanimous decision win in their WBC title eliminator. The 32-year-old Ameri can, who is of Mexican heri tage, dropped Ortiz twice in round two before putting the Cuban, 43, down again in the seventh, BBC reported. Ruiz now hopes to face fellow former champion Deontay Wilder, who was ringside in Los Angeles, California.“Iwant to be champion again and bring that belt back to Mexico,” he said. Ruiz shocked Antho ny Joshua to take his IBF, WBO and WBA titles in June 2019, before the Briton reclaimed the belts in their rematch that December. Ruiz has since beaten Chris Arreola and now Or tiz, with two of the judges scoring the contest 114-111 in Ruiz’s favour, the other 113-112. “I thought I did a beautiful job boxing and countering,” he said. “I thought I showed some dif ferent class than I usually do instead of just pressuring him and going forward.” Ruiz now holds a re cord of 35 wins from 37 fights while it was the third loss of Ortiz’s professional career, with the previous two both coming against former WBC champion Wilder. Ortiz called for a re match with Ruiz but Al Haymon is the promoter for both Ruiz and Wilder, who faces Robert Helenius next month in his first bout since suffering successive defeats by current WBC champion Tyson Fury. “[Haymon] can make this fight [with Wild er] happen so let’s do it, let’s get it on,” said Ruiz. Wilder added: “We’re always look ing for great exciting fights we love to give the fans.”

KOLKATA, SEP 5 (PTI): Rajasthan United FC (RUFC) and Chennaiyin FC qualified for the quarter finals with contrasting 2-0 wins at the Durand Cup on Monday.Youssef Atriss and Sergio Barboza Junior’s second half strikes against Indian Navy ensured RUFC claimed the second spot in Group B. In the other match of the day in Imphal, Anirudh Thapa scored one and as sisted in the other as Chen naiyin (7 points) got the better of local favourites Neroca FC to make it to the knock-out stages from group C in Asia’s oldest football tournament.Theother team from the group to make it to last eight is Hyderabad FC (9 points). In group B, Rajas than’s win spelt doom for city giants Mohun Bagan as they made a group league exit just like arch rivals East Bengal. While Mohun Bagan also had seven points like group toppers Mumbai City FC and second placed Ra jasthan United, but having lost to the new club in their head to head became green and maroon brigade’s un doing.RUFC, who needed a win to qualify for the knock outs, started on the front foot against the Navy side which was playing for pride, having garnered just one point from its three earlier matches and with no chance to qualify.Butboth teams could not create any clear chances as the game was mostly played in the middle of the park. There were a lot of stops and starts to the game as both teams committed fouls while trying to break up each other’s moves. RUFC started the sec ond half by attacking the Navy box relentlessly. Sec ond half substitutes Barboza and 17-year-old Gyamar Nikum added more teeth to RUFC’sRUFCattack.finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute through Lebanese striker Attris. A shot from Ragav Gupta from outside the box was well saved by Vishnu but the rebound fell to Barboza who crossed past Vishnu and Youssef had to just tap it into an empty net. An excellent through ball by Nikum was met by Barboza’s run in the 89th minute and he finished con fidently past Vishnu to seal the game for his team. In the second match of the day, Chennaiyin looked the better side throughout and definitely had the more quality fire-power at this stage of the tournament to come through quite com fortably.

It helped Tomas Brdar ic’s side that the goal came early. A long ball meant for Croat striker Petar Sliskovic, missed his head but struck his marker’s and fell on the path of Thapa’s run. The diminutive mid fielder took one touch to burst into the box and let go of a right footer which beat the Neroca keeper Soram Poirei for Nerocapower.could have equalized at the half-hour mark when John Chidi snatched the ball from Ira nian defender Vafa, just out side the CFC box and drove in, but his curler round the keeper missed its target. The CFC midfield, in particular Thapa, began taking total control of the game in the second half. Regular forays by Rahim Ali and Sliskovic, brilliantly martialed by Thapa as well as Sajal Bag on the wings made it a matter of time that CFC would score. Vafa Hakhamaneshi finally provided that insur ance when he leaped up to a beautifully delivered Thapa free-kick, to bang home a header. Soirei did not move. The experienced CFC side played out the rest of the game without much fuss. Thapa, now has five goal contributions in the nine goals that CFC has scored so far in the tourna ment.
