RH steps up demand for Tseminyu distt; warns of protest DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): Stepping up its demand to upgrade Tseminyu sub-division into a district, the Rengma Hoho (RH) has appealed to the state government to consider the demand, saying “Rengmas deserve due recognition and equal treatment”. In a reminder to state government on its earlier memorandum, Rengma Hoho president, Kenyuseng Tep expressed confidence on the DAN government under the leadership of chief minister TR Zeliang and NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie that the demand of the Rengams would be taken up and justice delivered at the earliest. “We believe their leadership and true statesmanship will not over look to our genuine demand”, he added. The hoho said Rengmas have been snubbed and betrayed since inception of Nagaland state implementation. “Our demand is not for political and social polarization but it is inherent right which cannot be denied,” RH stated. RH also reminded that Rengmas had contributed and taken initiative for the political and historical right of the Nagas and also involved in every level of political development that resulted into creation of the present Nagaland State. The hoho further cautioned that the Rengmas would be compelled to protest if their legitimate rights were denied. RH said: “Our honesty and fairness in upholding the unity and integrity of the Nagas and our sincere effort in maintaining a brotherhood with other Nagas should not be construed as ignorance and weaknesses”.

PM’s Dussehra message on terror L uc k now, O ct 1 1 (IANS): In an obvious reference to Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the time had come to uproot terror and those who patronise terrorists. Addressing a massive Dussehra gathering at the Aishbagh Ram Leela ground here, Modi said terrorism in all forms was anti-humanity and Hindu Lord Rama represented all that was human. It was the Prime Minister’s first public speech after the September 29 surgical strikes by the Indian Army at terror launch pads in Pakistanadministered Kashmir. He made no direct reference to the surgical strikes or to Pakistan that killed an unspecified number of terrorists but made it more than clear which country he had in mind. “Those who spread terrorism need to be annihilated and those who aid terrorism will not be spared either,” Modi said in a speech laced with references to Hindu religion. Modi said India was a country that respected both Lord Krishna who led the Pandavas in the war of Mahabharata and Mahatma Gandhi who propagated non-violence. “We are the people who go from yuddha (war) to Buddha (peace). Sometimes war is necessary, but our path is not that of war, but that of Buddha. “We create balance... I hope the path shown by Buddha will be our final path,”

Narendra Modi being presented a mace as he is welcomed during Dussehra celebrations at Aishbagh Ram Leela in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. (PTI) he said. The Prime Minister invoked Ramayana and asked people to keep a vigil against terror and fight it the way the vulture Jatayu fought Ravana in a desperate bid to try rescue the abducted Sita from the demon. “We may not be able to become Ram, but we can all try and be Jatayu and give a befitting reply to the nefarious designs of terrorists,” he said, beginning and ending his speech with loud cries of “Jai Shri Ram, Jai Jai Shri Ram”. “If a country of 1.25 crore keeps an eye on every terrorist activity, terrorists will never succeed,” Modi said to loud cheers. He said decades ago when India discussed ter-

rorism, nobody paid heed. The BJP veteran recalled how during a visit to the US years ago, American officials argued that terrorism was a law and order problem. But all this changed after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US and the 2008 Mumbai carnage that left 166 people dead. “Terrorism knows no religion, no boundaries.” Modi earlier arrived to a grand welcome at the sprawling ground in the heart of Lucknow, the capital of electionbound Uttar Pradesh. Accompanied by union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and other state BJP leaders, Modi performed ‘aarti’ of

the characters playing Lord Ram and Sita and was later felicitated by the city Mayor Dinesh Sharma, the convenor of the 70-year-old Ram Leela. The Prime Minister was gifted a silver mace, an arrow and a bow. A turban was tied on his head. Modi said effigies of Ravana had been burnt for centuries on this day but “we should rededicate ourselves today to demolish the evils within us as well”. Dussehra, Modi said, also meant to do away with 10 evils within humans and kill the Ravana within that raises its head in the forms of dishonesty, greed, filth, blind faith and ego.

Units back NCSU on Maytas-Gayatri issue DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) Mokokchung, Phek, Wokha and Zunheboto units have come out in strong support of NCSU’s stand against MaytasGayatri (JV) carrying out four lane project of DimapurKohima NH-29. NCSU Mokokchung unit, through its president L.Tajen Imchen and general secretary Toshiakum Jamir, alleged that Maytas-Gayatri (JV) brought immense hardship to the citizens of several districts by abandoning twolane projects under Special Accelerated Road Development Project Phase-1. They said “abandoning of projects” was considered as “disgraceful and an insult to the citizens”. NCSU Mokokchung has demanded that the company first complete two-lane project in order to avoid “unwanted situation”. NCSU Phek division while extending support to the head office said the allegations levelled against the company [by NCSU head office] were authenticated and based on a fact finding commission. NCSU Phek division president Kuzhosheyi Alex and secretary Razou Lohe said the allegations therefore were not at all unfounded as stated by the commissioner & secretary works & housing. Maintaining that the issue, which had been highlighted in the media frequently, was not new, the NCSU Phek queried where was the commissioner

& secretary works & housing then? The division said remaining silent for the whole time and suddenly taking a “U-Turn” on the same issue was “really unfortunate and mischievous.” It said public know well SARDP works undertaken by the company(JV) were abruptly abandoned “citing silly reasons so as to dupe the Nagas.” NCSU Phek said since SARDP works (Phase-1) were awarded to Maytas & Gayatri (JV), it was their bounden duty to complete the project as per the agreed terms and specifications. Phek division said Nagas as a whole cannot let mega project “slip-out of our hands”, adding that it would continue to pressurise the company into finishing SARDP work before taking up any other projects. It cautioned that the company would be held responsible for any unwanted consequences arising out of the issue. NCSU Wokha Unit also affirmed that the JV should first complete the “abandoned” two lane projects under SARDP Phase-1. NCSU Wokha unit president, Solomon Lotha, and joint secretary A. Lipon Lotha said they also strongly supported the view of NCSU head office that JV had “fooled” the Naga people by “abandoning” the two lane road project. Further, it also “fully” endorsed the view of NCSU that JV should not be awarded any other major projects in the state unless SARDP Phase -1

project was complete. Agreeing with NCSU view that the company “managed to eyewash” the MoRTH in winning four lane project of Dimapur-Kohima, the NCSU Wokha unit maintained that the views expressed by NCSU were “fully in keeping with the interest of the people of Nagaland as a whole.” Fully endorsing and supporting the initiatives taken by NCSU head office, the Zunheboto unit has expressed surprise how JV was awarded another project when they have “abandoned” a major project previously. Unit vice president, Henito Kinimi, also demanded that JV should not be awarded any other major projects in the state unless they completed their previous projects. The unit further questioned the JV and “those in the government” supporting the company, how such a reputed company could abandon a major project and move their priority to another project without the slightest regards to the sentiments of the people affected by their abandoned projects. In this regard, NCSU Zunheboto appealed to the responsible department and the company to complete the “abandoned project” at the earliest. Failure to complete, the unit cautioned that both the department and the company would be answerable to the ire of the affected public and would be solely responsible for any untoward action.

Federal units back Ao Senden Woman found murdered at Tenyiphe-1 V&R coaching institute doles Staff Reporter

DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): Following the Ao Senden’s decision to dissociate from the Naga Hoho, the Senden’s federal units-- Dimapur, Mokokchung town, Mon, Tuensang, Wokha, Kohima, Medziphema and Chumukedima- resolved to fully endorse and support the Senden’s decision- which was decided at a joint meeting held at ASTD treasurer’s residence, Dimapur on Tuesday. Talking to media persons, a spokesman for the units, said that the eight reiterated that they would stand by the September 23 resolution of the Ao Senden to disassociate from the Naga Hoho in the event the Hoho failed to revoke “its consent on the Rongmei recognition issue,” within the 30-day deadline(which expired on August 31). Confirming several reports about the immense pressure exerted on the Ao Senden constituents, the eight units today also appealed to the NSCN (I-M) Ao national

workers to refrain/indulge from campaigning against the Ao Senden’s September 23 decision. One of the representatives of a unit also told media persons that the Rongmei issue was an important matter, over which not only the Ao Senden but also other tribal apex bodies like Sumi Hoho and Lotha Hoho has also made their respective stands clear. The representative cited the 30-day deadline served on Naga Hoho to rescind its endorsement to the state cabinet for recognition of Rongmei as indigenous tribe of Nagaland as sufficient time for deliberation Since there was no positive response, he said the Central Nagaland Tribes Council resolved on July 22 and later reaffirmed at a meeting on August 24, by the constituent three apex tribal bodies-- Ao Senden, Lotha Hoho and Sumi Hoho—to reaffirm the course of action to follow in case of failure by the NH to comply with the demand.

DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): Over 10 cases of dengue have been reported in Dimapur since the past few weeks, most of which (patients) were suspected to have got the dengue fever from outside the state. As September and October, considered as the peak month for dengue coupled with monsoon, the clogged drainage and stagnant waters in low lying areas of Dimapur, as breeding grounds, could add up to the number of cases. In this regard, the state malaria department has been urged to take up immediate measures to tackle the issue. As per WHO recommendations larvae and fever survey is to be conducted within 400 metres of the area where dengue patients are found. Assam, Manipur and Mizoram have already reported dozens of dengue cases. Dengue and Chikungunya are widespread diseases that require close attention in India, eminent scientist and an international expert on Ebola, Peter Piot has said. “There is a need for countries to build better and more responsive health systems and services. This calls for synergies among NGOs, communi-

ties, inter-governmental coalitions for a more systematic approach. Overall, if we focus more on preparedness and human rights, we will accomplish more,” Piot, co-discoverer of the Ebola virus and Director, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine said during his lecture at the Indian Institute of Public Health-Hyderabad. The lecture highlighted the threat of viruses may be “exacerbated” by the current context of ecological change, climate change, global mobility, international travel and trade, human demographics and behaviour, agricultural and environmental pollution, it said. While the mode of transmission varies from one virus to another, stigma and misinformation are common threads that determine how swiftly the epidemic is controlled, Piot said. “He also shared that media attention has the power to make a significant difference in perceptions. In 1976, when the first Ebola outbreak took place, only a few short articles made it to international news, whereas in the age of 24 hour news channels and social media, connectivity should quicken the pace of reaching out to the public with “risk communication messages”, he said.

State BJP hits back at NPCC DIMAPUR, OCT 11 (NPN): State BJP unit has hit back at NPCC president, K. Therie’s statement published on October 10, stating that the “shallow accusations on BJP government was a visible attempt to highlight its party for the elections”. In a press note, BJP unit general secretary (media) Jaangsillung Gonmei while clarifying on the statement said Therie was “ill informed” as one could read “the desperation between the lines as he tries to achieve his target with biased, hooded lies”. The unit reminded that the BJP was a disciplined cadre based party with no avenues for taking democracy and democratic rights to distorted levels to serve only the selfish needs of the vested interests. It further clarified that there was never a case of anti-Christian atrocity carried out by any of its party branches and departments. If it was so, Gonmei said there would have been a huge hue and cry within the party nationwide. As rules and guidelines in the conduct of party works and programmes for sustaining and preserving a modern society is strictly adhered to, Gonmei said strict disciplinary actions would be been initiated against any party men. BJP rather cited the 2015 reports of the Amnesty International and the International Human Rights Watch on India that the year 2013, under the UPA government, topped as the year of the highest escalation of religious violence in the country. The violence was not confined to Christians alone but also among and between major religions in India mainly Hindus and Muslims, BJP unit stated. (Full text on p-6) K Y M C

Dr. Nicky addressing the gathering. (NP) Correspondent

KOHIMA, OCT. 11 (NPN): Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Nicky Kire said no government could provide job to all youths and one should not consider government job as everything. He rather encouraged youth to choose any profession they were good at, while addressing the gathering as the chief guest during the new ministers’ hill youth organization Kohima silver jubilee celebration (25 years of service to the community) at Botanical garden Kohima on October 10. According to minister,

an educated person should not stay unemployed with the knowledge he/she had acquired. He encouraged the youth to take up any job regardless of its status stating that no work or job was big or small as it was the dignity of labour that counted. He lamented that Nagas were lagging in persistence and perseverance in any work field, wherein he pointed out the reason for Naga failure in many areas. Minister also shared another area of concern where he said Nagas were too dependent on their parents even after they became matured enough to stand on their own.

He encouraged the youth members to do something against illegal immigrants and misuse of surname in Naga society. MU reservation row deepens

Correspondent

IMPHAL, Oct 11: Crisis ridden Manipur University is caught in the middle after a group of students warned the university not to review its decision taken on October 8 last. Manipur University has been reeling under crisis after the authority decided to follow UGC’s guideline in the reservation of seats in the admission to various courses of the university runs under the Union ministry of human resource development. While the university is facing a fresh protest from the tribal students when the Academic Council of the Manipur University had, on October 8, resolved to adopt Central Educational Institutions Reservation (Admission) Act 2006, a group of student today came up with a strong warning not to review the decision. They even burnt down the effigy of state chief minister O Ibobi Singh who reportedly insisted the university authority to review its October 8 decision. The protesting students burnt the effigy this evening apparently after an evening daily published in Imphal carried out a report about chief minister asking the MU authority to revoke its deci-

sion regarding switching Central Educational Institutions Reservation (Admission) Act 2006. The protest against revision of the decision was amidst the tribal students’ protest against the decision. Protesting the decision, they have even left their hostels as well as MU campus on Monday. A meeting of the Academic Council of the MU convened today, in the meantime, discussed the prevailing crisis in the centrally runs university. After thorough deliberation, the meeting resolved to take up the matter with the Centre (government of India) by furnishing a communiqué to the President seeking his intervention in resolving the crisis at the earliest, a highly reliable source said. Meanwhile, continuing their protest against the decision of the Manipur University authority, tribal students under the banner of the Manipur University Tribal Students’ Union (MUTSU) today staged a sit-in-protest in front of the Youth Hostel at Khuman Lampak, Imphal. Tribal students who left their hostel on Monday took part in the protest demonstration. Meanwhile, Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur

Flash flood hits ManipurMyanmar border areas

Imphal, Oct 11 (IANS): A flash flood triggered by torrential rains on Monday night along Manipur-Myanmar border washed away a bridge and destroyed several houses, the police said on Tuesday. However, no casualty was reported. “The water level of the Khujairok river along the international border receded within a few hours,” a police officer told IANS. He said there was heavy downpour lasting over an hour on Monday night and the level of the Khujairok river breached the danger mark in no time. Tribal people from nearby villages said they were virtually caught napping. “The flash flood razed six houses at Chavangphai village near the international border. But, as we managed to run uphill, there was no

casualty. Pigs and other domesticated animals are also safe,” a villager said One of the engineers posted in Moreh area along the border said, “There was a wooden bridge, connecting Chavangphai village with Moreh Ward No.5. It got washed away. Now it will take some time to construct another bridge.” Receding waters came as a huge relief to the villagers, as they could wade through the river water since Tuesday morning. Government officials and elected representatives of people rushed to Moreh on Tuesday to assess the damages. A government official said that a report has been sent to the government and financial assistance could be extended to the victims to reconstruct their damaged houses.

state unit has extended its support to the demand of the Manipur University Tribal Students’ Union (MUTSU) on reservation policy at Manipur University. Talking to media at NPF state unit office in Imphal’s Dewlaland its president Awangbou Newmai justified the demand of the tribal students and insisted that authority of the university should adopt Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012 instead of going with the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act 2006. The decision taken by the Academic Council of Manipur University regarding adoption of Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act 2006 was a totally biased one, he said. Newmai said that Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012 clearly stated that reservation for ST should be 31%, SC 2% and 17% for OBCs based on the population of the state. Decision of the Academic Council of MU was nothing but suppression of justice and denial of constitutional rights of the tribal who constitutes about 45% of the population of Manipur, he added.

Shillong marks an increase of 80 % in traffic conviction

SHILLONG, Oct 11 (Agencies): Rash driving, poor traffic etiquette and traffic violation are all but everyday terms any Shillong commuter is familiar with. A rise in the number of even more rash drivers should come as no surprise. It is also more or less an everyday scene to find someone being held up by the police at the side of the road over certain violations of the traffic rules. Traffic violation is becoming a great problem in Shillong for it could affect anyone at any misfortune time. Taking a look at the statistics provided by the Shillong Traffic Branch, it was recorded that in 2015, a total of 4 cases have been booked under the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act and the number shot up to 26 in 2016 alone. The number has tripled from that of last year’s and we are just in the month of October. In line with this, strict and stern actions have been initiated against erring drivers by the Shillong Traffic Police as is noticed in several cases where traffic violators found driving under the influence of alcohol have been arrested, impounded and suspended from driving for a period of six months. Meanwhile, adopting a softer approach towards traffic violators (excluding drunk

IMPHAL, Oct 11: Joining the chorus demanding immediate repairing of highly deplorable portions of ImphalJiribam section of NH-37, Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM) Monday announced indefinite bandh on the highway. The indefinite bandh would commence from the midnight of October 11, said RNYOM president Singamlung Dangmei while addressing a news conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal. “The lifeline of Manipur is in a highly deplorable condition. We have requested chief minister, deputy chief minister and works minister on Oct 3 to repair the road by way of submitting memorandums. However, so far no concrete step to repair the road is seen taken up. As such, we have no option but to call the indefi-

nite bandh,” the president lamented. Around 4.5 km stretch of the highway near Makru Bridge is in highly deplorable condition. Light vehicles were unable to cross the portion, he said. T h e r e p a i r i n g wo r k should start within seven days which the counting began from today. Until the repairing work commences, the bandh would be enforced, he added. “We will relax the bandh only after the repairing work is commenced,” he said. The indefinite call given on the highway is amidst the “steering down strike” of the drivers and truckers plying on this section of the highway under the aegis of Transporter’s and Driver’s Council (TDC) since October 3 last. Owing to the strike, no goods transport truck plied on this section of the highway. The TDC is also pressing the authority of the state gov-

ernment as well Border Road Organisation (BRO) to repair the road. The body alleged that some stretches of the highway are very difficult to navigate due to treacherous condition. Meanwhile, a meeting between representatives of the striking TDC and officials of the state PWD was convened today at the office chamber of the chief engineer. During the meeting officials of the PWD requested the TDC to suspend their strike while giving assurance that they would consult with the BRO so that the repairing work can be taken up jointly at the earliest. However, the TDC said it would stick to their stand to continue the strike until the repairing works commences. need for improved connectivity in the state which is the only lifeline of Sikkim, Chamling urged the central government to help for the development of road and infrastructure. “It is high time to work for the better connectivity in the state as we are still lacking behind road and rail link despite the fact that Government of India has its own policy that every capital of the state should be linked up with rail connectivity but Sikkim is being neglected in these terms,” he said. “Sikkim is nonetheless geographically diverse due to its location in the Himalayas and has set an example for other states when it comes to clean and green India so we have had talk with the entire ministry and are trying to make a collective approach to the central Government to work for further development of the state,” added Chamling. He later informed that Sikkim’s first Greenfield Airport at Pakyong being constructed on a 200 acre piece of land is likely to be operational in 2017 at a revised cost of Rs 605.59 crore. “The airport will provide direct air connectivity to the hill State and will be one of the five highest airports of the country, he added. Sikkim CM urges Centre to 234 gms heroin seized in Mizoram focus on devp of resources

New Delhi, Oct 11 (Agencies): Sikkim being the smallest north-eastern state in the entire country might not be highlighted in the mainstream, but many inspirational works are being carried out in the state. Despite being the most peaceful and the cleanest state in the country, the people fail to understand the positive aspect of the state, they should rather consider it as an example, said Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim, in a press conference held at New Delhi at the Sikkim house. Chamling said, “The Centre should focus on the development of natural resources of the state for better production and I would insist the centre to take decision for the overall development of the state so that it can contribute in the rise of the Indian economy because the state has got great potentialities be it in tourism sector or in terms of organic farming. Sikkim is the most environment friendly state and we have always focused on eco friendly tourism in the state. So, I would say the central government should eye on the development of the tourism sector as well”. Chamling was recently conferred the prestigious 2016 ‘Sustainable Development Leadership Award’ by President Pranab Mukherjee during the World Sustainable Development Summit organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) at the Vigyan Bhawan . The award was presented to him in recognition of his vision and leadership in environment and sustainable development leading to the establishment of Sikkim as the first and only organic state in the country according to citation presented by the TERI on this occasion. Counselling sessions for traffic violators have been initiated with a total number of 33 in East Khasi Hills in which a staggering number of 1273 individuals have attended till date. The idea of this initiative was to provide awareness and ensure that people are aware that road safety comes first in driving.

Pampore attack: gunbattle with terrorists enters 2nd day

Security forces keeping guard outside the multi-storied government building where some militants are holed up, at Pampore, 16 kms from Srinagar on Tuesday. A group of ultras took shelter inside EDI building on Monday morning. (PTI) SRINAGAR, Oct 11 (Agencies): The operation to flushout terrorists holed up inside a government building in Pampore area on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway entered the second day on Tuesday, even as security forces launched a fresh offensive against the ultras. An Army official said the area around the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) premises has been cordoned off and exchange of fire was going on, reported TOI. “Security forces have launched a fresh offensive this morning to flush-out the militants,” the official said. Officials said that Pampore encounter may last an-

other day or two as terrorists have not yet been confined in a part of the building. “Terrorists are firing and moving across the building, ruling out the option of burning it down,” said an official. Two to three militants stormed into the EDI complexes in the wee hours on Monday and took positions inside one of the buildings. The ultras could have entered the complex from the riverside but that can only be ascertained once the operation is over. After getting inside the complex, the militants set on fire few mattresses inside a hostel room to attract the attention of the police and other security forces, which arrived within

Hack your targets with machetes, IS tells lone wolves

NEW DELHI, OCT 11 (AGENCIES): Islamic State (IS) modules and ‘lone wolves’ in India have lately been instructed by their handlers to focus on hacking their targets, particularly foreign citizens, to death with big chopping knives or machetes. “We have gathered that IS modules and lone wolves here are being told by their handlers not to risk gathering explosives, assembling IEDs or illegally buying automatic weapons for attacks. Instead, all they need to do is buy big chopping knives or machetes, which would neither raise suspicion nor involve a huge cost,” a senior intelligence official told TOI. The first case of ISinspired youths plotting beheadings came to light in July when a module led by terrorist Masiuddin alias Abu Musa was busted by West Bengal CID and machetes recovered. Now, members of the Kerala-Tamil Nadu module arrested last week have revealed that they too planned to hack foreigners to death in the two southern states. The motive behind the proposed hacking attacks in India, according to top sources in intelligence agencies, is to create maximum impact in

terms of terrorising people, given the gore and horror associated with them, and grab eyeballs, including that of international audience. Agencies believe ISinspired youth may also be looking to record these hackings and share the photos and videos with their handlers, so that they can be uploaded on IS’s online forums to promote the outfit in India. This trend was seen in Bangladesh, with the Dhaka attackers+ capturing the hacking of foreigners during the July 1 hostage situation in Holey Artisan cafe with their smartphones. These photos were later uploaded by IS. “It has been noticed that IS modules are now largely operating as small, localised groups in different states particularly Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka. After the NIA busted a pan-India module in January leading to two dozen arrests across northern, southern and western states, IS handlers have been encouraging Indian contacts to work in smaller groups with minimal interconnectivity. This is to escape surveillance and minimise arrests in case a module is detected,” an intelligence officer said.

minutes of the smoke emanating from the building. In the initial exchange of fire, one Army soldier was injured, the official said. The security forces on Monday used mortar shells, Light Machine Guns and other small arms to flush out the militants but so far have not been successful, the official said. Militants had targeted the EDI building in February this year as well. Five security force personnel including two young Army officers and a civilian employee of the Institute and three militants were killed in that operation that lasted 48 hours.

Suspended SAD MLA joins Cong AMRITSAR , OCT 11 (PTI): Suspended Akali Dal MLA Inderbir Singh Bolaria and former district chief of the party Upkar Singh Sandhu on Monday joined the Congress which said Navjot Singh Sidhu too was “welcome” to join hands with it. The two were inducted into the party by Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh in the presence of AICC secretary Harish Chaudhary, MLAs Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, OP Soni, Sukh Sarkaria and Raj Kumar Verka among others. Welcoming the former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders into the party, Amarinder said, “This is the beginning of the end for SAD.” “The exodus from Akali Dal to Congress has just begun and it will keep happening till the election,” he said, adding that there were several other leaders in touch with the party leadership who will join it “in the due course”. Assembly polls are due in Punjab early next year and the Congress is eyeing to wrest power from the SADBJP combine. Amarinder said Bolaria joined the party “unconditionally” and added that the entire rank and file of the Congress in Amritsar welcomed the two into the party.

national 250 militants hiding in Kashmir, waiting to strike New Delhi, Oct 11 (Agencies): The government believes at least 250 terrorists belonging to three Pakistanbased terror groups are active in the Kashmir valley and they could target security forces to ‘avenge’ the surgical strikes carried out by the Army across the Line of Control (LoC). Quoting intelligence inputs, top government sources said that most of the 250 terrorists belonging to Lashkare-Taiba , Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen had infiltrated before the surgical strikes and were hiding here. They said the terrorists have been given clear instructions by their handlers across the border to target security forces to “avenge” the surgical strikes. The central government has asked security forces operating in Jammu and Kashmir to maintain maximum alertness and take all precautions to foil any attempt by the militants to target them. Sources said even though vigil along the LoC as well as the international border was intensified, there were gaps in many places due to the difficult topography. Army, BSF, CRPF and J&K Police have also stepped up search for the terrorists. It is believed that some 100 terrorists are waiting across the border to infiltrate, as was first reported by TOI last week. Security forces have killed more than 40 terrorists in the last one month while they were trying to infiltrate or attack the bases of Army and other security forces. Since the attack on the Army’s Uri camp which killed 19 soldiers, terrorists have made several attempts in Baramulla, Pampore and Handwara.

Gau rakshaks not anti-socials: RSS chief NAGPUR, OCT 11 (IANS/ PTI): RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday backed cow vigilantes and asked the government not to equate them with anti-social elements, contradicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stand on the Hindu bovine activists. “There are some people who are dedicated to cow protection. It is part of the Directive Principles of State Policy,” Bhagwat said in his annual speech on Vijay Dashmi, marking the 91st foundation day of the RSS -- the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ideological mentor. “Gau rakshaks operate under the law. Administration must keep (this) in mind. Those who break the law shouldn’t be compared to gau rakshaks,” the RSS chief said at its headquarters in Nagpur. Bhagwat’s remarks contradict Modi’s August speeches when he said that 70-80 per cent of them would be found involved in anti-social activities which no society can approve of. Modi in his two speeches -- in Delhi and Telangana -advised states to act against such activists after a nationwide outcry over high-handedness by cow vigilantes on Dalits in many states, including in Modi’s home state Gujarat. Bhagwat didn’t quite agree. He said cow, revered by Hindus, was to be protected by the law and “gau rakshaks perform an important service”. He called cow protection a “sacred mission” that would “continue and gather momentum” despite “grave provocations”. The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh chief also spoke at length on various issues including Kashmir and the army’s surgical strikes in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. He said Pakistan

India’s youngest state Telangana gets 21 new dists Hyderabad, Oct 11 (PTI): More than two years after Telangana came into existence as India’s 29th state, the TRS government in the state today carried out the biggest administrative reform, creating 21 new districts. With this, the total number of districts in the state went up to 31 from 10, following the reorganisation process. Telangana, carved out of Andhra Pradesh, came into existence on June 2, 2014 as the 29th state of India. Revenue divisions and other administrative units have also been reconstituted along with the districts and 25 new revenue divisions, 125 new mandals, four new police commissionerates, 23 new police sub-divisions, 28 new circles and 91 police stations have come into existence from Tuesday. The inauguration of the new districts across the state, coinciding with the Vijaya Dasami festival, was a grand affair with the Legislative Assembly Speaker, ministers and other dignitaries attending events organised on the occasion. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao cut a ribbon at the Collectorate of the new district of Siddipet, carved out of his native Medak district, at 11.13 AM. Rao, who had

represented Siddipet in the undivided Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, was blessed by religious gurus who conducted an all-religion prayer. The chief minister also took out a rally in the town. Recalling his association with Siddipet, Rao vowed to provide Rs 100 crore for its development. “I wish that the people benefit more with all the administrative divisions achieving success with the blessings of god,” he said. The reorganisation of districts would help in effective monitoring and implementation of welfare schemes, so that they reach the needy, Rao had said earlier. The new districts are -Siddipet, Jangaon, Jayashankar, Jagtial, Warangal (Rural), Yadadri, Peddapally, Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Mancheriyal, Vikarabad, Rajanna, Asifabad, Suryapet, Kothagudem, Nirmal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubabad, Jogulamba and Medchal/ Malkajgiri. The other 10 districts are -- Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy,Mahabubnagar, Medak, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda. Along with districts, the mandals, revenue divisions and other administrative units have also been reorganised.

Mohan Bhagwat was encouraging separatists in Jammu and Kashmir and demanded strict action against those indulging in violence in the valley, which is battling over three months of the deadliest unrest in years. “Miscreants” in Kashmir were being encouraged by the forces from across the border, Bhagwat said, praising the BJP government and referring to the September 29 cross-border raid by the Indian Army that killed an unspecified number of terrorists and dismantled seven terror launch pads. “Our army has shown great courage under this government. The government took a commendable step. Our borders should be guarded and well managed.” Bhagwat also expressed concern over social inequality and casteism, saying an ongoing RSS survey in this regard had thrown up alarming findings. For instance, he said, a detailed survey of 9,000 villages in Madhya Pradesh had shown that in 40 per cent of them, backward castes and Dalits face discrimination on temple entry, in 30 per cent villages they are not allowed access to water sources and in 35 per cent villages they are barred from using the crematorium. “The Swayamsevaks are working on this. They have started helping our SC/ST

brethren to claim the benefits guaranteed to them under the Constitution and ensure that the government and administration disburse the funds allocated for their welfare,” Bhagwat said. He said it was shameful if people were insulted or subjected to physical torture “because of one’s wrath over a trivial issue or one’s superiority complex” -- a reference to anti-Dalit incidents in the country. “It also facilitates the divisive forces to tarnish the country’s image and slow down the momentum of good social welfare activities being carried out all over.”

Trousers replace khaki shorts of RSS workers

Smart dark brown trousers donned by RSS functionaries instead of khaki shorts they had worn for the last 90 years, stood out at the Sangh’s foundation day ceremony today, but the traditional bamboo stick will remain part of the uniform. While other aspects of its attire, from shirts to shoes, have undergone a makeover since the Hindutva organisation was founded in 1925, its khaki shorts, modelled after the then British constabulary, had been a constant. RSS has also gone for change in the colour of socks to be worn by its volunteers, replacing the old khaki with dark brown, to go with the brown trousers they would now wear, with white shirt and black cap. The traditional bamboo stick will, however, remain part of the uniform. Volunteers in the northern and eastern states, which witness harsh winter, will also wear dark brown sweaters. Orders for the first lot of one lakh such sweaters have already been placed.

Modi is always on duty: PMO’s reply to RTI NEW DELHI, OCT 11 (PTI): The Prime Minister of India is on duty all the time, the PMO has said, adding no leave records of former prime ministers are available with it. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said this when an RTI applicant sought a copy of leave rules and procedures for the Prime Minister of the country from it and the Cabinet Secretariat. “The Prime Minister can be said to be on duty all the time,” the Right to Information (RTI) response from the PMO said. The applicant also wanted to know if former prime ministers Manmohan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, HD Deve Gowda, IK Gujral, PV Narasimha Rao, Chandrashekhar, VP Singh and Rajiv Gandhi had availed any leave and were there any records. “Information regarding leave record of previous Prime Ministers is not a part of records held by this office. However, it may be noted that no leave has been availed by present Prime Minister i.e Shri Narendra Modi since taking over charge,” the RTI response said. A similar RTI application was also filed by the RTI applicant to other authorities like Cabinet Secretariat to ascertain if they have any information about leave of former prime ministers and rules regarding this for the head of the government. But there was no response and the application was transferred to the Home Ministry which further sent it to the PMO which said it does not have any information about leave records of former prime ministers.

Paneerselvam gets Jaya’s portfolios CHENNAI, OCT 11 (PTI): With Jayalalithaa continuing to remain in hospital since September 22, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao today allocated the portfolios held by her to Finance Minister O Paneerselvam but said the AIADMK supremo will continue to be the Chief Minister. “Under Clause (3) of Article 166 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Tamil Nadu today allocated the subjects hitherto dealt by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to O Paneerselvam,” a Raj Bhavan press release said. Paneerselvam, who holds the Administrative reforms portfolio, in addition to Finance, “will also preside over cabinet meetings”, it said. “This arrangement has been made as per the advice of the Chief Minister and will continue until the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa resumes her duties,” it said. “Jayalalithaa will continue to be the Chief Minister,” the release added. Jayalalithaa (68), was admitted to Apollo hospital on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration. Yesterday, the hospital said she continued to be under treatment and was being constantly monitored by intensivists and other consultants in the expert panel, while respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition,

O Paneerselvam supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy were being given to her. Among others, Jayalalithaa holds the police and home and general administration portfolios.

Jaya’s health: Police warn rumour-mongers

With social media being used to spread rumours and “malicious content” about hospitalised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s health, police today enlisted private cyber experts to keep a watch on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp and warned of stern action against those indulging in such acts. “We have formed a few police teams. And the help

of cyber experts from private agencies has been sought. They will help the Cyber Crime wing,” a senior official of Central Crime Branch (CCB) of City Police dealing with the matter told PTI. He said the Cyber Crime wing will keep a watch on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube which are allegedly being misused to spread rumours about Jayalalithaa, who has been undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital since September 22 when she complained of fever and dehydration. Police have so far registered 43 cases and arrested two persons in connection with posting of “malicious and false content” on the social media about the health of 68-year-old Jayalalithaa. Special teams, constituted to investigate such cases, were working to identify those who had posted such “false and malicious content” on social media, they said, adding such “offences are liable to be punished with rigorous imprisonment for more than seven years”. “Users of social media are advised not to spread false, malicious and motivated information regarding the health condition of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Stern action will be taken against the culprits, if any such content is noticed,” police added.

activist This Dussehra, with effigies of evil, terrorism burnt too inBaloch Delhi to form

NEW DELHI, OCT 13 (PTI): People across the country today celebrated Dussehra with traditional burning of effigies of Ravan, his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhakaran, which marks the victory of good over evil, even as effigies symbolising terrorism and terrorists were also put to flames. With security personnel keeping a hawk-eye vigil, the festivities passed off peacefully across the country as crowds burst into cheers with fire crackers-stuffed effigies crackling in splendour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing people on the occasion in Lucknow said no one should feel they are safe from terrorism as it has no boundary or morality. President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi were present at the Delhi event at Ramlila Maidan. At many places, particularly in Punjab’s Amritsar and Ludhiana, effigies symbolising ‘terrorism’ and ‘Pakistan’ were also burnt alongside those of Hafiz Saeed. In Indore, however, a large number of Pakistani Ravan’s Effigy Set on fire during the Dusshera people worshipped Ravan and Celebration in Amritsar on Tuesday. (PTI)

celebrated the day as ‘Ravan Moksha Diwas’ as part of their 46-year-long tradition and appealed people not to burn effigies of the ‘Dashanana’. Mahesh Gauhar, president of an outfit of Ravana followers in Indore, Jai Lankesh Mitra Mandal, told PTI, “Ravans was a great intellectual and an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and therefore, the outfit appeals to the people to stop burning his effigies on the occasion of Dusshera.” In Karnataka, curtains came down on the festivities with an impressive ‘Jambo Savari’ (procession of caparisoned elephants) with thousands of people watching amidst rains. Several functions were organised in Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir state and effigies were set on fire by actors dressed as Lord Rama and Lakhshmana. The main functions were held in Parade ground and the Dussehra ground in Gandhinagar. Traditional fervour marked Dussehra celebrations in Maharashtra as markets wore festive look with people dressed in traditional attires shopped for puja and decorative items. In Rajasthan, fairs were held and effigies burnt in public grounds

in Mansarover, Adarsh nagar, sanganer, Vidhyadhar nagar and other places to mark the occasion. In Kolkata, the festival ended today with the immersion of idols as the goddess left for her abode in Kailash at the end of her annual sojourn on earth. According to Kolkata Police, nearly 1,000 idols were immersed till 6 PM. “No immersion will be allowed tomorrow because of Muharram processions. The next immersion date is October 13 when it will be allowed from 4 PM till next day,” they said. In Himachal Pradesh, International Kullu Dussehra got off to a spectacular start with traditional Rath Yatra of Lord Raghunathji while Dussehra was celebrated with burning of effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran, elsewhere in the state. Chief minister Virbhadra Singh consigned to flames 45-feet tall effigy of Ravan, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran at Jakoo in Shimla. Kullu Dussehra is unique Kullu in the sense that there is no Ramlila and no effigy of Ravana is burnt and starts when Dussehra celebrations end in other part of the country.

Post-mortem ‘Npcc president ill informed’

Vol. XXVI NO. 305 Dimapur, Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Politicising the military

I

t was not entirely unexpected that the ‘surgical strike’ carried out by the Indian army inside Pakistani side of LoC on September 29 would take a political turn between the BJP-led NDA government and the opposition parties. The strike was a revenge for the attack on a brigade headquarters at Uri, by four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists on September 18. The BJP leaders had left none in doubt that the party government deserved the credit for the strike since the decision was made at the highest political level under prime minister Narendra Modi. The BJP will be looking for anything to strike a chord with voters in UP in the forthcoming general elections in the early part of 2017. UP is crucial for all parties since there are 80 Lok Sabha seats and crucial for government formation in the 2019 parliamentary elections. The Army’s surgical strike is being seen by the BJP as a boost to its electoral prospects in the upcoming assembly elections. However, the government of the day at the Centre knows that it would be doing a great disservice if it allows the army’s strike to become a political brownie point. As a responsible party running the government, the BJP has shown rare reticence and restraint and wisely reluctant to gloat on the surgical strikes, save one deplorable slip from Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. It may be recalled that Parrikar’s crude bragging where he compared the prowess of the Indian armed forces to that of the mythical Hanuman, had done little to prove that the government wasn’t interested in such bragging. As if to send a strong message, the prime minister asked ministers, and by implication party members, to avoid bragging about the raids and leave it to authorised spokespersons to speak on the issue. Though prime minister Narendra Modi has warned his party against using the surgical strike as a political achievement, his partymen appear to have turned a deaf ear. Unfortunately, the BJP party organisation in UP appears to be reluctant to let the opportunity slip by and has already pasted huge posters featuring PM Modi as Lord Rama, Pak PM as Ravana, and Arvind Kejriwal as Meghanada. The language and tone spoken by BJP leaders, rightly lauding the Army and attacking the opposition, does seem too obvious that it is all about trying to gain political mileage. When the BJP leaders stop short of claiming full credit for the surgical strike, it was also not unexpected for the opposition to try and hit back and in the process, the national political discourse had sunk to new depths. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi did not let go of the opportunity to hit the prime minister about alleged attempt to corner glory and while doing so, he(Rahul) strayed to forbidden territory by accusing Modi of doing so with the blood of dead soldiers. The Congress had attacked Modi and his government for using the September 29 strike as an achievement of the government. The Congress revealed that though the UPA government had also cleared an Army surgical strike in 2011 code named “Operation Ginger” when eight Pakistani soldiers were killed; it never made it public since it was a military operation. Having said what was right, prime minister Modi now has to prove he meant what he said by ensuring no posters or banners using the strike be put up by his party for the UP election.

DailyDevotion God’s Silence— Then What? When He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was. —John 11:6 Has God trusted you with His silence— a silence that has great meaning? God’s silences are actually His answers. Just think of those days of absolute silence in the home at Bethany! Is there anything comparable to those days in your life? Can God trust you like that, or are you still asking Him for a visible answer? God will give you the very blessings you ask if you refuse to go any further without them, but His silence is the sign that He is bringing you into an even more wonderful understanding of Himself. Are you mourning before God because you have not had an audible response? When you cannot hear God, you will find that He has trusted you in the most intimate way possible— with absolute silence, not a silence of despair, but one of pleasure, because He saw that you could withstand an even bigger revelation. If God has given you a silence, then praise Him— He is bringing you into the mainstream of His purposes. The actual evidence of the answer in time is simply a matter of God’s sovereignty. Time is nothing to God. For a while you may have said, “I asked God to give me bread, but He gave me a stone instead” (see Matthew 7:9). He did not give you a stone, and today you find that He gave you the “bread of life” (John 6:35). A wonderful thing about God’s silence is that His stillness is contagious— it gets into you, causing you to become perfectly confident so that you can honestly say, “I know that God has heard me.” His silence is the very proof that He has. As long as you have the idea that God will always bless you in answer to prayer, He will do it, but He will never give you the grace of His silence. If Jesus Christ is bringing you into the understanding that prayer is for the glorifying of His Father, then He will give you the first sign of His intimacy— silence.

I

n yet another instance, the NPCC President Shri Thierie has issued shallow accusations on BJP governments as published in local dailies on 10th October 2016 in a visible attempt to highlight his party for the elections. For the knowledgeable, one sees the desperation between the lines as he tries to achieve his target with biased, hooded lies. In the interest of preserving the uprightness of the readers and the society at large from being misguided by such statements and eventually falling into a trap, the BJP Nagaland clarifies on Shri Therie’s points. 1. The BJP party is a disciplined cadre based party with no avenues for taking democracy and democratic rights to distorted levels to serve only the selfish needs of the vested interests. Rules and guidelines in the conduct of party works and programmes for sustaining and preserving a modern society is strictly adhered to failing which disciplinary actions are swift. In such an environment of party constitutional provisions, there is absolutely no way for party frontals to be engaged in any atrocities against Christians. There never had been a case of anti-christian atrocities by any party branches and departments otherwise which, there would have been a huge hue and cry within the party nationwide. 2. Amnesty International and the International Human Rights Watch Report of 2015 on India mentioned that the year 2013 peaked as the year of the highest escalation of religious violence in the country. The violence was not confined to Christians alone but also among and between major religions in India mainly Hindus and Muslims. If recalled, 2013 was when the UPA Government was at its peak of mis-governance. The high records of inter religious tensions was because the UPA government was lethargic and failed to take corrective measures smartly for the obvious reasons.

The UPA goverenment’s inaction to curb the 2013 religious clashes was an ill planned and ill timed political vendetta and pre-poll strategy to cast doubt of anti secularism on the highly favored BJP and scare away the voters from BJP in the 2014 elections. But the failures of the UPA government was not restricted to 2013 alone. Throughout its lengthy decades of misrule, several inter religious clashes took place claiming several lives including Christians. Even on 12th Oct 2008 pope Benedict expressed concern on anti Christian atrocities and called upon the then Congress led UPA government to take intitiatives to curb the menace. But the then Prime Minister only expressed the same in the following National Integration meeting without much further effort to follow up with strong rectification measures. Such was the folly of the Congress led UPA government. The weaknesses and failures of the Congress government to curb and completely rectify such anti religious tensions over a long period of time, helped nurture such anti social behaviours and traits of the society to erupt again and again. Instances are many. But notable for its intensities during Congress–led UPA government are Muzaffarnagar, UP, Andhra Pradesh etc. So much so, that the National Commission For Minorities Vice President Shri Sangliana in a 2010 report stated that the government has taken corrective measures but still need to put a lot more efforts emphasising on more stringent measures to curb such repetitions. The BJP-led NDA government is not slacking on curbing inter-religion atrocities including those perpetrated on Christians. Prime Minister Shri Modiji had openly declared in November, 2014 at Vigyan Bhawan during the celebration of the beatification of two Indians by Pope Francis, that “My government will not allow any religious group, belonging to the majority or the minority,

Why do the cabinet require an advisory committee?

T

he Answer to the Question raised in this Write-up is Simple: An ADVISORY COMMITTEE is often a little unholy strategy; the Bureaucracy uses to shirk, or avoid deciding itself an uncomfortable Decision. The Efficient or the Artful, use this Government or Bureaucratic strategy cunningly or sometimes wisely necessarily. The Government of Nagaland has earlier thoughtlessly made a decision making the Rongmeis from outside Nagaland as an ‘Indigenous Tribe’ of Nagaland. As a result the Rongmei in Nagaland began to graze the green Pastures Reserved for the Native ZeLiang of Nagaland only. The Zeliang of Nagaland justifiably insisted the Government of Nagaland could not take away the Privilege Reserved for Zeliang alone in the State of Nagaland. The Government fell into a Ditch of its own making thoughtlessly and took a long time to think and think and think but could not give a satisfactory decision. The Zeliang went to Court and the Court passed an Interim Judgment ‘staying the government decision’. The Government could honestly ‘withdraw’ an earlier mistaken Cabinet decision: Everybody makes mistakes, the Honest honestly often have the courage to acknowledge its mistake. Nagaland had rejected ALL INDIA SERVICE IN NAGALAND initially, but

I

Nagaland Post, Dimapur Wednesday, October 12, 2016

during HOKISHE’s CHIEF MINISTERSHIP, that Cabinet Decision was WITHDRAWN. The Government need no constitute an Advisory Committee to advice itself. It has its own the Wisdom. What Advisory Committee does the Nagaland Cabinet further require to decide the Rongmei Case? Even a simple uneducated Widowed in any Village would easily say it is impertinent to share what is not due! Nagaland has 60 elected Representative Leaders to decide for Nagaland. The State has less than 2 million populations whereas in mainland India more than a population of Nagaland selects just 1 Representative. Each Nagaland Legislative Member therefore knows his people much more thoroughly. The whole population of Nagaland is wholly behind the ‘Interest of the Nagaland’. Why would Nagaland Government have a Cabinet Advisory Body to Advice itself decide an Issue it already knows in its head? i. To shift responsibility? ii. To use in decision against the will of the People? I hope against hope the elected Representatives would decide the Interest of future Nagaland, And they need no apology to any for that. to incite hatred against others, overtly or covertly. Mine will be a government that gives equal respect to all religions. We cannot accept violence against any religion on any pretext and I strongly condemn such violence. My government will act strongly in this regard. My government will ensure that there is complete freedom of faith and that everyone has the undeniable right to retain or adopt the religion of his or her choice without coercion or undue influence”. The BJP-Led NDA government’s efforts to protect the religious, cultural and regional minorities and weaker sections are always on a war footing. Taking the instances of the plight of the North Eastern region people in large metropolis, the NDA Government through the Delhi Police under the Central Home Ministry had instituted several measures like Special Delhi police forces for the protection of North Eastern people residing in Delhi under the nodal officer of a North Eastern officer, raised a new battalion of police force comprising of youths from all over the north astern states, extra legislation to curb the taunting of North east people on the streets or in the work place, special attention to North eastern issues of safety, security and welfare matters through various government service departments and NGOs, etc. All these were never heard of under the Congress- led UPA government. Is Shri Therie aware. 3. For the clarification and erasing the doubts of all, December, 25th was marked as “Good Governance day” in 2014 to honor the former BJP NDA Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee and foster awareness among the Indian people of accountability in government whose birthday is also on the 25th December Christmas Day as of Jesus Christ. It was therefore not a religious assault on the Christians as many uninformed people thought or

T

assumed so. For the BJP, it is not surprising to see many coincidences with Christian dates unintentionally. After all, the Bharatiya Janata Party was also born and launched on 6th April in 1980, on Easter Sunday, with Atal Behari Vaypayee as President. Would Shri Therie find fault in this historic date too? 4. The Judges Conference day is held periodically usually towards the end of the financial year to take stock of the financial accounts of the Courts. The usual 2 to 3 days conference of all the 25 High courts Judges are scheduled by the court administration themselves as per the dates available when the courts are free from litigation duties. The workloads of the judges compel the conference to be scheduled during holidays. Accordingly, in the past also, due to unavailability of suitable free dates, the Judges conferences were also held on important holidays and public events such as on Valmiki Day in 2004, on Good Friday in 2007 and on Independence Day in 2009. It is ridiculous therefore ridiculous blaming the BJP for holding the Judges Conference Day of 2015 on GoodFriday. 5. The Fiscal year is not followed on a similar pattern by all the countries. Every country has various periods of fiscal year guided by their requirements. The fiscal year April to March is a British pattern followed mostly by countries of the erstwhile British empire. The reason was to give enough time for the monsoon harvest to come in and taxes accounted besides the frequesncy of major festivals from October to December like, Puja, Diwali, Christmas etc. Fiscal years are changes as per the economic trends. Usa has a July-June pattern. While most European Christian majority countries like Italy, France, Israel, Mexico, Portugal, Sweden, Sspain has January-December pattern. The BJP government is doing its best to restructure administrative systems to adapt and in consonance with the

changing situation of the 21st century in the country and not just because of just narrow religious considerations. 6. Hindi and Sanskrit as ancient literature are rich language with available references to each or any aspect of life, relation and society. It has always been the endeavour to enrich them further along scientific lines to answer to the contemporary needs of modern sciences and technology. While doing so, understanding that language is a binding force for a nation to be united and exist harmoniously, Hindi and Sanskrit has been considered as the first official language of the country followed by English as the second language. However, that does not mean that the nation will forgo and forget the thousands of smaller languages and cultures that is unique in every form. Adequate constitutional provisions have been legislated and implemented through various Arts and Culture and related Departments to preserve, protect, promote, enrich the myriad cultures and languages however small existing in the country. Hindi and Sanskrit as a literature should not be confused with hindunisation just as Chinese should not be confused withConfucianism. These are not measures to change the nation into Hinduism. The NPCC President Shri Therie should get updated and not be guided by biased and shallow observations thereby coming to all the wrong conclusions, whose distorted versions, which could hamper the values of truth. In case, he is still needs references of other facts and what the BJP-led NDA government has done, the following may be noted. If his obsession is to find fault with the BJP, he may well consider the following facts of the Congress in comparision to the BJP. While Congress is family based, BJP is organisation and party based. In congress, the leader is by default from Gandhi family and their qualified people can’t take decisions wasting such

Clean election, church and opinion poll

alk of Corruption with impunity in Nagaland has been on fashion outliving all other fashions in Nagaland. One is tempted to scale corruption with conscience and wonders if consciences have deserted Nagaland for Christ. It will be fallacy to put square blame on power holders but every soul is party to corruption either by indulgence or choosing to remain silent. Of late there has been consensus among Naga intellectuals that Corrupt electioneering practices is the prime reason for ad infinitum of corruption where electorate and the candidates are equally responsible and there is an urgent need to break this chain if development and progress in Nagaland is to be chucked to life from cold storage. Western missionaries transformed Nagas from savagery life and beliefs, New Delhi showered money and introduced Nagas to evil of easy money; phenomenal changes good or bad have been brought to Nagas from outside. Hence, Nagas are still under illusion that end to corruptions will rain from above or bring in by others in a tsunami way; forgetting that it is inside every individual within the parameter of God’s given “one’s own free will”. Church should strongly stand against corruption and clean election after all; what ails society impact church and its congregation directly and vice versa. Christianity is a way of life therefore, holistic and Church cannot shirk its re-

sponsibilities as bible say “Faith without Works Is Dead”. Critics may have reservations, but if Churches can organize health camps to cure physically sick, organize seminars and workshops on ill effects of tobacco and alcohol on health, family and society; why not on clean election and corruptions two biggest evils that is stealthily invading and challenging our faith! Will many Naga Church leaders whose caliber are no less than Martin Luther King, Archbishop Desmond Tutu will stand up and bring about social changes in Nagaland. Thanks to IT revolution that has touch our part of the world, the recent surge in awareness though social media about evils that ails our society should not be easily waved off by secular and spiritual leaders. Times have changed; voices will grow louder and will slowly converge into volcano in waiting for eruption that no force can contain once erupted. Therefore, church has to rise above the occasion and tell its congregation that contributions from the loot of poor man’s share, bootlegging, extortion etc is unacceptable; church income will increase manifold if every member gets his own due share and donate rather than few corrupt donating large amounts, a simple economic logic that will usher far reaching social change. Likewise, the political leaders’ and bureaucrats needs to seriously look into the welfare and development of its people than for one’s own greed, after all

what pride does one have becoming rich out of poor man’s meal and leave no footprints of leadership rather than live with soiled conscience. Equally, the public should use their God given wisdom to scale our leaders based on performance and honesty to represent us and not based on monetary value after all you and I as an individual together have the key to unlock the change that we desire. The recent web survey in ACAUT Nagaland Facebook group on the question, “Should NBCC clean election campaign include candidates and voters to take oath not to buy and sell votes in the presence of Church leaders, Congregation and electorate?”. The poll was fairly participated by cross denomination, qualification, age, gender, income and tribe. Out of 100% who participated in the poll overwhelming 86% says YES while 14% says NO. The poll shows that majority of cross section of the Naga society wants change and sees church as one of the main force that can turn the table on the issue of Clean Election. Secondly, it clearly calls for the Church to swing in to “Action” over a slogan of “Do’s and Don’ts”. It is not an overestimation that almost every Naga is directly part of Church and it is deeply rooted having moral authority over its members better than Government machinery or any NGOs. Therefore, if the Apex Church associations can form an Inter-denominational

Response to NNC/GDRN (NA) breakout group

t is sad to see - the breakout group challenging the NNC/GDRN (NA) on ‘monetary potential’ always in all your write up and for which the MIP has retorted again to tell the breakout group that we are not contesting with any persons of financial capabilities nor are we considering the issue as mere measurement of materialistic ability between the persons and thus, unnecessary question such as “we have retired state government servant as our leader but what were your leaders” should not arise. Pesident Kiumukam Yimchunger was your leader yesterday and even today he is that leader you have served. But it is wondering whether you know of his giving. He is honored for being the first to stand against the Shillong Accord which subsequently led to the foundation of NNC (NA) on 31st March 2011. Through this initiative NNC (NA) got its recognition by its people. It is also because of his selfless sacrifices that GDRN became reality in the month of May 25th, 2016. And

today he is with us in his capacity as President of NNC/GDRN (NA) and it is our obligation to remain committed and loyal to such leadership till the end of the race. Secondly, As far as Hangping Zeliang and Kumchi Chilimong’s contribution is concern they were just a mere member of the NNC during the formative stage of NNC (NA). During that period of time Hangping Zeliang was an ordinary member without any portfolio and Kumchi Chilimong was then the advisor of the NNC but did not have any advice to his credit. Such leader trying to superannuate their President is not fair at any cost and that is the reason why the NNC/GDRN (NA) condemns such crooked politic arising in the government setup. Thirdly, Hangping Zeliang was entitled as the general secretary of NNC (NA) in the year 2015 and so he is stringing only mockery politics which will not bear any fruit for the Nagas. His status of one year as General Secretary does not qualify him

qualities as of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Every government file had to go to Congress head quarter for Smt.. Sonia’s reference who has no constitutional right to even look into those files. Not so in BJP where qualified people are free to perform to their best capabilities. While Congress could not solve Bangladesh border problem in 60 years, BJP solved it in 2 years. Unlike BJP, in congress, no one dares to speak against Gandhi family even if they are doing wrong. And under Congress, petrol price touched Rs.80 per liter, which is now averaging at Rs.60 per litre, only, the BJP government is keeping it a bit high as they need to pay debt built during the erstwhile congress rule. Shri Therie may also note that in two years, BJP led NDA government also initiated the following in the areas for uplifting the poor, Women, Youths, educated unemployed, farmers, development etc. To state a few they are, Jan Dhan Yojana, Mission Housing for all, MUDRA Bank, My Gov Online Platform, Digital India, Make In India initiatives, National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, National Sports Talent Search Scheme, National Mission on Teachers and Teacher Training, Enhanced Compensation for distressed Farmers due to crop damage, Soil Health Card Scheme, PMJJBY, PMBSY, APY, Crop Insurance, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Abhiyaan, PAHAL-Direct Benefits Transfer for LPG (DBTL) Consumers Scheme, Swachh Bharat Mission, Gold Monetisation Scheme, National Institution for Transforming India (NITI AAYOG), Smart City Programme, The National Urban Development Mission, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana etc. The list is endless and decades of Congress rule are not comparable to it. Jaangsillung Gonmei, General Secretary (Media), BJP Nagaland

to be matured enough and lead the GDRN (founded on 25th May 2016). Yes, if it was a matter of measuring mere financial status one can solely rely under such leadership as he has a monthly income as pensioner but Naga issue is a matter of righteous cause and so it is not a question of person, but of principle and this is what the breakaway group really needs to realize and act. Fourthly, Hangping Zeliang and Kumchi Chilimong were deceived by Toivi Sumi who was inducted into NNC/GDRN (NA) only in the month of June 2016. He maybe saying that he has achieved his plan in just a matter of two month but at this crucial political and moral questioning of our time such person is in no way required to mold the public opinion. Even at the time of our President Kiumukam Yimchunger being jailed by 32 Assam Rifle Toivi Sumi came and started to threaten him until when the good police personal came to his rescue. Such person claming to stand for the

Nation is a big question mark. Fifthly, on the question of Hangping Zeliang and Kumchi Chilimong drawing monthly pension from the state government, the NNC/GDRN (NA) wish to say that the man who is employed for wages is as much a businessman and therefore the question arises whether you both are trying to cheat the Naga people or the Indian Government. If you are cheating the Indian Government it’s up to you but if you are trying to cheat the Nagas then it will not be overlooked but in defense of the righteous cause you will be made accountable as Naga institution is not a financial profit making institution. Lastly, Welcome, or unwelcome, it is now up to the breakout group to read yourself and know what you need to do, as together we can make a difference. You know- “the individual is born, he acts, he dies but the principles are eternal, and this has been a contest over a principle”. MIP- NNC/GDRN (NA)

Committee for Clean Election Campaign-2018 and act upon on; a). Inviting all intending candidates from District to District headquarters, hold public service and take pledge not to purchase votes. b). Request all the local churches to take pledge on congregation not to sell votes. Many movements, NGOs, village and range are on board for clean election and electorate are ready for change. Time is ripe! The declaration by Langpangkong range and Diezephe village for Clean election is path breaking that deserves applaud, while throwing up challenges to mass based NGOs especially Student bodies, Mothers Association and Tribal Bodies to emulate this paradigm shift in approach to Clean Election. All these effort from various corners desperately needs an action oriented push from the church because of its position and authority to achieve a victory called Clean Election in Nagaland, healing Nagas from one of the main root cause of corruption that ails our society affecting individual spiritually. The desired change that every Naga is yearning for is neither unreachable nor unachievable if there is a collective approach with church leading from the front. Dr. Khekugha Muru, Former Research Associate, Centre de Sciences Humaines, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Reader’s Post

The issue of Rongmei’s recognition Sir,

According to press releases, Rongmei Tribe has been recognized as an indigenous Tribe of Nagaland by the Government of Nagaland in 1977. From that time on, they might have been treated on the same footing with other indigenous Tribes and the privileges of the Naga Tribes might have been entitled to them. After more than 30 years, if the Tribe is de-recognized, it is very unstable on the part of the Nagaland Government and it is too inhumane and pathetic to the tribe. The critics have been saying their views and opinions standing on reasoned ground which is to be appreciated, but a recognized Tribe is to be de-recognized is also thought as inconsistent. Rev. L. Suohie Mhasi

The auction, which was announced on May 25, is to be conducted on simpler contractual terms together with pricing and marketing freedom. India liberalised its exploration and production regime almost two decades ago when in the early 1990s, it auctioned about 28 fields to private and public investors. In the late 1990s, it further liberalised its E&P sector with the introduction of New Exploration Licensing Regime (NELP) regime that allowed 100 per cent FDI and offered a level playing field to private and national oil companies.

Gold imports between January and September aggregated 270 tonnes this year against 658 tonnes in the corresponding period of last calendar year, adds the ASSOCHAM paper. “The moot question among the buyers and analysts is whether scope for any further run is left when gold has seen so much of a rally, the best among all the assets classes - including quantitative easing led stock markets. Revival in Indian consumption, financial risks in the Chinese economy, tapering tantrums of the US Federal Reserve as also close American Presidential elections are all seen as the push factors for the gold to remain as a safe haven,” the ASSOCHAM paper noted.

MANGALURU, Oct 11 (Agencies): In the backdrop of continuous global political and financial risks coupled with revival in demand in the domestic market, gold prices are likely to stay firm in the range of Rs 30,500-33500 per 10 grams despite the yellow metal having had a golden run up of about 25% since January this year, an ASSOCHAM Paper has pointed out. The prices, at present are ruling at Rs 31,000-31,500 for 24 carat purity gold in major Indian cities, even as the festive demand seems to be picking up. “Going forward, the festive demand will get a further push from the wedding season, which is the main contributor to gold consumption in India. The upside in the short term of a few months is seen between Rs 1,500-2000 while the downside could be limited to Rs 1,000-2000 per ten grams, the paper said. While India has been among the two biggest consumers of the gold in the world along with China with imports in the past going even up to

New Delhi, Oct 11 (Agencies): Get ready to pay more for petrol and diesel when their prices are revised later this month. Oil marketing companies are likely to revise their prices sharply higher, following a jump in global oil prices. Petrol currently costs Rs. 64.72 a litre in Delhi and diesel Rs. 52.61 per litre. Global oil prices have jumped to over one-year highs of around $53 a barrel on growing expectations of an output cut by major oil producers. Oil prices firmed up after Russia said it was ready to join the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in limiting crude output and Algeria called for similar commitments from other non-OPEC producers. Global oil prices have gained almost 15 per cent since OPEC provisionally agreed last month to cut production for the first time in eight years. The Indian crude basket, composed of 73 per cent sour grade Dubai and Oman crudes, with sweet grade UK Brent making up the rest, breached the psychological level at $50 per barrel on Friday. New Delhi, Oct 11 (PTI): Fearing poor response, the government is likely to extend by at least one month the last date of bidding for the auction of 46 small oil and gas fields that were “given up” by state-owned ONGC and Oil India. Bidding for the auction, the first in over four years, is to close on October 31. There are apprehensions about the response after prospective bidders complained about the quality and amount of data being made available on the fields that have been put on offer, sources privy to the development said. For bidders to make decisions, more data, particularly about the size of reserves, is required and making that available would require extending the deadline, they said. Also, some prospective bidders have raised concerns about the size of the blocks or fields on offer. They say 10 square kilometer offering, one-tenth of the smallest block ever offered in the previous bid rounds, was too small. Sources said the bidders feel the block area has to be larger to give them room for probing for oil

policy meeting last week that he would tweak its terms to make it more practical for banks. “I have had detailed discussions with the new governor, who is totally on board,” Mr Rai said. The two-man panel comprises ex-Chief Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar and Janki Ballabh, previously SBI chairman, and will review its first three loan restructuring cases next week. “If bankers find that it is easy to use this channel to get a resolution, they will queue up,” said Mr Rai. “It takes the onus of the decision off their backs.” Starting from the 2017/18 fiscal year, minority shareholders in state banks will be encouraged to subscribe to rights issues - offerings of new shares - alongside the state. Mr Rai said these investments would be attractive because many state banks are valued at a discount to their book value. But this process should only move ahead once nonperforming assets, or NPAs, are dealt with. “Recapitalising the banks when they are carrying huge amounts of NPAs on their books makes no sense. It just gets lost into that big black hole.”

NEW DELHI, Oct 11 (PTI): To cash in on the 7th Pay Commission payout to government employees, state-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) is offering them home and auto loans at attractive rates of 9.3-9.8 per cent beginning this month. Besides, the bank said it will offer loans to these segments without any processing or upfront fee and no documentation charges will be levied on them. The rate of interest is with effect from October 1, 2016. The Delhi-based state lender said the objective of the drive -- christened as ‘PNB Pride’ -- is to “ensure availability of housing and vehicle loan at attractive rates and ensure a house and a car for all government employees”. For housing loan, the floating interest rate has been fixed at marginal cost of lending rate (MCLR) for one year at 9.3 per cent. For those availing the housing loan on a fixed rate basis, it will be a floating one of interest plus 0.50 per cent (i.e, 9.8 per cent). For car loan, customers will be charged MCLR of one year plus 0.25 per cent (9.55 per cent) on a floating basis. As for fixed interest rate with a reset clause of 3 years, it will be MCLR of one year plus 0.25 per cent, or 9.55 per cent.

merged entity,” he said in an interview. Mr Rai declined to go into detail, saying deliberations were preliminary and depended on the success of efforts to restructure the balance sheets of India’s nearly two dozen public sector banks. Apart from market leader State Bank of India, now acquiring several affiliates, the two largest public sector banks based in India’s financial capital are Bank of Baroda and Bank of India. Mr Rai, a 68year-old former auditor general, was hauled out of retirement to strengthen management at state banks that had often succumbed to political pressure to back projects that were not economically viable. His mandate quickly grew, however, and a proposal to create an advisory committee that could review proposals to take writedowns, or “haircuts”, on irrecoverable loans was enshrined in a Reserve Bank of India circular in June. The Scheme for Sustainable Structuring of Stressed Assets, or S4A for short, survived a leadership transition at the central bank and is backed by its new governor, Urjit Patel, who announced after his first

considerable loss of consumer faith,” said Greg Roh at HMC Investment Securities. “The reason consumers prefer brands like Samsung and Apple is because of product reliability ... so in this case brand damage is inevitable and it will be costly for Samsung to turn that around again,” Roh said. Samsung’s statement on Tuesday was the first formal acknowledgement of continued safety concerns with the replacement Note 7s and came a day after it acknowledged it was easing production of the flagship smartphone. “Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 while an investigation is taking place,” the statement said. A number of major distributors -- US telecom firm AT&T and German rival T-Mobile -- had unilaterally suspended sales and exchanges of the model on Sunday. Samsung also advised all customers with an original or replacement Galaxy Note 7 to “power down and stop using the device” immediately -- a warning echoed by the head of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Elliot Kaye.

New Delhi, Oct 11 (Agencies): Government may merge two large state banks in the coming fiscal year once a cleanup of bad assets has run its course, the official overseeing a turnaround of the sector told Reuters, days before a new process to resolve stressed assets goes live. Consolidation of India’s public-sector banks would represent a final step in rebuilding a financial system capable of underwriting credit growth and job-creating investment in Asia’s third-largest economy. First, though, the state banks must cleanse their balance sheets. They accounted for 88 percent of a pile of stressed loans that exceeded Re 9 lakh crore ($138 billion) in June, the legacy of a lending binge under the last government that has hobbled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s growth agenda. Vinod Rai, the veteran bureaucrat hired this year to head a new Banks Board Bureau, said a next step could be the merger of “two large Mumbai-based banks” that he declined to identify. “Once that consolidation has taken place, in the second phase, we will put a weaker, smaller bank into this

Seoul, Oct 11 (Agencies): Samsung told customers worldwide today to stop using their Galaxy Note 7 smartphones as it struggled to contain a snowballing safety crisis that threatens to derail the powerhouse global brand. The South Korean conglomerate also called a halt to worldwide sales and exchanges of the troubled handset, as the federal US consumer regulator issued an alarming warning of the possible dangers the device posed to its owners, their families and homes. The news slammed Samsung’s share price, which plunged as much as seven percent in afternoon trade. Today’s announcement came a little over a month after the world’s largest smartphone maker announced a recall of 2.5 million Note 7s in 10 markets following complaints that its lithium-ion battery exploded while charging. The unprecedented move has turned into a PR disaster for the company, which prides itself on innovation and quality, and the situation only worsened when reports emerged a week ago of replacement phones also catching fire. “If it’s once, it could be taken as a mistake but for Samsung, the same thing happened twice with the same model so there’s going to be a

Bill Clinton was a predator, worst abuser of women: Donald Trump

WA S H I N G TO N, O c t 11 (PTI): Calling former US president Bill Clinton a “predator” and the “worst abuser” of women, Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to expand his attack on his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and her husband if they release more” inappropriate” tapes “If they want to release more tapes saying inappropriate things, we’ll continue to talk about Bill and Hillary Clinton doing inappropriate things. There are so many of them, folks,” Trump told a rally in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. “Bill Clinton was the worst abuser of women ever to sit in the Oval Office. He was a predator,” he said. Slamming the media for allegedly protecting Democratic presidential nominee, the real estate tycoon from New York threatened the Clintons that he would speak about their alleged sexual assault cases if they release more tapes about his inappropriate remarks, like the one in which he is seen making lewd remarks against women. Trump, 70, alleged that

Donald Trump without media’s support Clinton would not be even elected as a dog catcher. He said the 68-year-old would not have a chance without media’s support. “The only thing she’s got going in the media. Without the media, she would not have a chance,” he said. Trump’s campaign suffered a heavy blow over the weekend after surfacing of aseries of such remarksby him about a decade ago. “One more very important issue where I exposed the

hypocrisy of Hillary Clinton, and the media, was on Hillary Clinton’s treatment of women. I was getting beaten up for 72 hours on all the networks for inappropriate words 12 years ago. Locker room talk, whatever you want to call it. And I just saw very inappropriate words, but Bill Clinton sexually assaulted innocent women and Hillary Clinton attacked those women viciously,” Trump told his supporters at an election rally in Pennsylvania. “You probably saw yes-

terday we brought four wonderful women to St Louis. Honestly, it was both very beautiful and very sad. They have been trying to get their feelings out for so long and the media wouldn’t take it. One thing with me, the media takes it. Whatever. So they were able to get what they wanted to get out,” he said. But perhaps the greatest window into the character of Hillary Clinton can be found in what she did as a lawyer when she was defending a man who raped a 12-year-old little girl, he alleged. Amidst booing from the audience, Trump said desperate to win her case, Clinton blamed the 12-yearold victim. Trump said the last 72 hours has framed what this election is all about. It’s about the American people fighting back against corrupt politicians who don’t care about anything except staying in power and keeping their donors happy. “What I want to say to every American right now is that I accept the mantle of this responsibility for all of us, for all of us,” he said.

Hillary Clinton St Louis, Oct 11 (IANS): US presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has said the US was not at “war with Islam”. The Democratic nominee also accused her rival Donald Trump of making statements that were a “gift to the ISIS”. In the second presidential debate, Clinton used the phrase “violent jihadist terrorists” but insisted that the US is not at war with Islam. “Right now, a lot of (Muslim majority) nations are hearing what Donald says and wondering why should we cooperate with the Americans (in fighting against IS) and this is a gift to ISIS and the terrorists,” she said. She was responding to a question from a Muslim woman in the audience who asked about Islamophobia and Trump’s previous statements about enforcing a ban on Muslims entering the US.

Haiti’s hurricane IS confirms death of propaganda chief death toll rises to 372 BEIRUT, Oct 11 (Agencies): Islamic State on Monday confirmed the death of its propaganda chief, whom the Pentagon said was killed in a US-led air strike in Syria’s Raqqa province last month. An statement posted online by the militant group paid tribute to Wa’il Adil Hasan Salman al-Fayad, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Furqan. It did not say when,

near Raqqa, IS’s de facto capital in northern Syria, and targeted al-Fayad while he was on a motorcycle outside his house, the Pentagon said. Islamic State controls large parts of Iraq and Syria and has broadcast its beheadings of journalists and aid workers over the past few years. The group has sympathizers in several countries who have carried out bombings and shootings of civilians.

Homes lay in ruins after the passing of Hurricane Matthew in Les Cayes, Hait. Port-Au-Prince, Oct 11 (Agencies): Haiti’s death toll from monster Hurricane Matthew has risen to 372, civil defense officials said on Monday, as the impoverished country continues to dig out of massive destruction in the south. On the second day of a three-day national mourning, the authorities added 36 more people to tally of confirmed dead. Four others were listed missing. More than 175,500 people were staying in temporary shelters, days after the Caribbean’s worst storm in

It said he was minister of information, overseeing Islamic State’s propaganda, and a prominent member of its Senior Shura Council, or leadership group. IS’s statement referred to al-Fayad as head of its media arm. The air strike took place

China raps US interventions in Asia at regional forum Beijing, Oct 11 (PTI): Beijing rapped Washington today for its interventions in Asia, as tensions grow between the two powers over territorial disputes in the South China Sea and how to handle increasingly erratic North Korea. Speaking at the 7th annual Xiangshan regional defence forum in Beijing, Chang Wanguan, China’s defence minister, levied thinly veiled criticism at recent US involvement in Asia’s trouble spots. Washington has conducted freedom of navigation operations close to artificial islands Beijing has built in the South China Sea, and has agreed to deploy a missile defence system in South Korea following repeated nuclear and missile tests by Beijing’s ally Pyongyang. “Some countries seek absolute military superiority, ceaselessly strengthen their military alliances, and seek their own

absolute security at the costs of other countries’ security,” Chang told defence officials and academics at the meeting. The US under President Barack Obama has sought to “pivot” to Asia by increasing military and economic engagement in the region, raising concerns in Beijing that Washington is working to contain the Asian giant’s growing power. Today’s meeting - themed on “building a new type of international relations” - followed a year of growing tension in the region, primarily centred on Beijing’s actions in the strategically vital South China Sea, where it has built islands capable of supporting military facilities. China says it has rights to almost the entire region, while Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, and Taiwan all have rival claims. In July, an international tribunal said that

India’s ‘hegemonic’ steps blighted security environment: Pakistan Geneva, Oct 11 (PTI): Needling India, Pakistan has told the UN that South Asia’s security environment was “blighted” by India’s insistence on “hegemonic policies”, as it asserted that regional peace was not possible without resolution of underlying disputes, especially Kashmir. The pursuit of “hegemonic policies” in South Asia by India and its efforts for “military domination” are creating instability both at the global and regional levels, Tehmina Janjua, Pakistan’s

Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and the Conference on Disarmament told UN’ International Security Committee. “Alluding to its recent aggression and the display of irresponsible behaviour by India, Ambassador Janjua highlighted that South Asia’s security environment was blighted by India’s insistence on hegemonic policies, engaging in a relentless arms build-up, and a myopic refusal to engage in any meaningful dialogue on security issues,” a Pakistan Foreign Office state-

In the Naga Customary Law Court of the undersigned The Founder President and Sr. Advisor of Village Chief (GB) Federation of Nagaland Hq.IVR.H.No.001/IVR Kuda Nagaland Near Old DC Office. Ref: NCLC-R&S(Pt)-I Date : 10.10.16 Rejoinder to Tezpur BJP MP Assam Mr. Ram Prasad Sharma which appeared in Nagaland Post on 19/09/2016 and summon thereon.

A gentlemen and a leader from Assam Shri. Ram Prasad Sharma a newly elected Lok Sabha MP from Tezpur Assam recently published his opinion to re-occupy the land of Nagas at Dimapur and Merapani areas even with forces if required was a blind statement after many centuries and it seems to be nonsense. As because while whole world leaders are trying their level best to maintain the peace within the countries. In the meantime, why the said Honourable BJP MP from Tezpur Constituency Assam create ill-feeling and inflame communal hatred. Kacharies were brought to Nagaland by the Britishers during 18th Century as forest labourers and living in Nagaland under the care and the protection of the Angamis otherwise, during the first part of the 16th Century, the Dima Raja and his men were all chased out from Dimapur Area and they fled to North Kachar side and they went across the Brahmaputra river and living beyond the said river since then. According to oral traditional history, the Dima Raja married to a daughter of Thezhuo Kemedu-o a magician and for which, Dima Raja constructed a Kuda (Gate) to his friend Thezhuo during 15th Century including 12 Nos. of Lakes in Padumpukhuri areas in the name of his wife but after the end of their friendship (Dima and Thezhuo) the Ahom Raja sent some of his men with elephants and destroyed the said Gate (Kuda) during some time in 18th Century. To speak the truth that the land belongs to God and the Almighty God created man and woman in his image to live on it as the owner. According to historical fact, there was always wars and peace everywhere in the world. And after a war the party or group which was defeated by its rival, the defeated group of people shall leave their every things into the hands of its opposition party and flee away from their land/kingdom automatically, the defeated group of people shall have no more right to reoccupy as their land or kingdom after many days or passed many centuries. According to the historical facts the Dima and his men were defeated by the mighty Angami and after the Dima and his men completely fled from Dimapur area to North Kachar Hills between 1530 to 1536 and thereafter they never came back, even after the lapse so many centuries. In order to bring back the situation between the Nagas and Kacharies, honourable R.P. Sharma BJP MP from Tezpur Assam is better to tender his apology to Nagas. As because, the wild statement uttered by the BJP MP is totally baseless and uncorroborated issue or he must come to the Naga Customary Court of the undersigned within the 30 days of time from the date of issue of this summon with all of his original documents. The Nagas are only occupying their forefathers land and living in it without any hindrance and also they are claiming about 5000 sq. mile based on 9 Point Agreement, 1947 of their forefathers land which area transferred earlier to Assam without the consent of Naga leaders. REJOINDER Apropos to the news item published on 5th October 2016, I, Shri Lisechem Sangtam, CEC Member, is compelled to issue this rejoinder in response to the statement given against me by Ex-Acting President Chopongse. I would hereby like to clarify that the suspension order of both the former members was not imposed under my directive but by the majority of the house as they have displeased the constitution of the party. The Party has served the two former members a showcause notice earlier but both failed to report to the office because they knew they were at fault. Mr. Chopongse was not appointed as President but as Acting President by me in consultation with the Area Party Office Bearers. Now the Party has terminated them from both Primary and Active membership. In addition, Mr. Chopongse must remember that I have been elected as Tuensang Town Council Member in the year 2004 from NPF ticket when you were clueless about NPF Party. Also, it was the honourable President of NPF Nagaland, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, who has appointed me as the CEC Member representing 52 A/C Longkhim-Chare with Order No. NPF39/CEC/2015-2020/75 dated 28/07/15; to which you have no authority to take any decision against me except high Command. Regarding the membership of any political party there are no differences between a newcomer or a senior worker but depends on the actively strong participation of the member. Furthermore, when the party was undergoing internal crisis in the year 2015 within our constituency, it was under my leadership that recreated the party through all financial and physical means. Till date the expenses of all party related matters are carried out by me. To point out, Mr. Chopongse has been conducting meetings wherever he is pleased, whereas the Party Office Headquarter is at Longkhim Town. He has never brought any benefit for the well being of the party but kept tarnishing the good image of the Area NPF Party and worked for his personal gain. It was also due to the weak role of those terminated members during the General Elections 2008 & 2013 that the former party candidate was miserably defeated. So, by withdrawing them from the party fold we aim to take the party to a higher and greater level in the upcoming general election.

Her only reason for coming for the retreat in SCAD was to observe the way the art programs are taught at the university and to understand how the programs can be beneficial for her students who would be interested in joining SCAD. She also mentioned her children are more inclined towards creativity and arts. We talked about how so many of

the Naga children are creative and show creative tendencies from an early age. If parents understood that such creativity can be rightly channeled and should be encouraged early on creative art would thrive in the State. It is very important to have Art and Artist in a society. We talk about old civilizations based on the work of their art and crafts. The more sophisticated the work of art the more cultured a civilization is. Just as societies grow and mature artists must also be encouraged. Artists are creators. What they create with their hands begins with a thought in their minds and that thought finds meaning and expression in their artwork. Art doesn’t need so many words to convey the message. Art is important because it has the ability to provoke thought and emotions and communicate across barriers; cultural, racial or other barriers. With art there is no boundary. And the world is a better place because of artists. After the long flight towards SCAD just as we were entering into the American territories I could see bluish undulating mountains which reminded me of the Naga Hills which also take a bluish hue in the early winter mornings with the sun streaming through the mists. Those mountains might just

as easily be Nagaland as it is Atlanta. Those mountains also made me think of the American Indians and the colonial history. And like the Nagas they were also the warrior people with their beautifully hand crafted shawls and ornaments living in nature and hunting down enemies. And like the Nagas their history is mostly oral history. The Naga history, without any form of written word and yet everything they made or created was an expression of their thought a story telling of their history, their world view and about themselves. They were the true artists and it was all in a days work for them. They literally wore their history on themselves in the form of beautifully woven shawls or sarongs, the body tattoo of various geometric patterns had something to say so did the beautifully built traditional houses with all the wood carvings decorating the front. It is no wonder so many of the Nagas have a gift for art. It is an inheritance for the naga people, part of Naga history, and the legacy of the older people who have passed away. Today the young people are showing their talent in art with a modern touch. Instagrammers like Naga street style or websites like www.

preciousmelove.com are giving their interpretation of fashion. Such talent needs to be nurtured and encouraged and I believe a dedicated Art and Design college like SCAD can help such talents nurture and mentor to mature into work that can compete with the rest of the world. This is not only about fashion but other field of creative arts. As I wait to be introduced to SCAD I’m reflecting a little on the Nagas and the creativity of the Nagas. What we have is immense talent but we lack focus, direction and the formal training that can give the talent an edge over others. Maybe SCAD will be the right destination for many young talented artists. And now I’m in my hotel room in Atlanta looking back at the journey what can I say? Let me say what Sashisaid “We are in America. Lets just breathe and take it all in”. I’ll be doing that for the rest of my trip. And now as I wait to visit SCAD maybe you can spent a little time on their website and check out their programs and understand why I’m eager to visit the college. I was amazed and I regretted not knowing about SCAD in my college years. Who knows maybe my path would have been very different had I been to SCAD. www.scad.edu

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s done for good. “Anything can change between them though, for better or worse,” the source adds. “They are still in each other’s lives.” For now, Drake has seemingly found a distraction in someone else:India Love. A second source revealed, “Drake and India Love have been hooking up for at least a few weeks.” Interestingly enough, India’s ex-boyfriend, Cliff Dixon, was rumored to have cheated on her with Rihanna. The insider tells us, “Drake could be hooking up with India Love now to piss off Rihanna, which has clearly worked.” Indeed it has. Over the weekend, Rihanna did something she rarely does, taking to Instagram to address her private life and clap back at her exes.

’Brien says his solo work will be ready for 2017. Speaking to BBC6 O’Brien said, “it starts in Brazil. Kids were born 2004 and 2006. And I said to the guys, in five years time, me and my wife are gonna go and live in Brazil for a year. I don’t wanna put the kibosh on anything but this is something we have to do. Don’t feel you can’t make a record. Make a record without me, if I can come in later on whatever…And I was really aware that I’d had so many adventures with this band; I wanted to have an adventure with my family.” O’Brien kept his word. He actually did go and live in Brazil for a year with his family. His solo album will reflect his time in the South American country. “Everyone sings,” he said. “There must be 4000 people on each samba school who parade down there, and the combination of writing music and that feeling of being there and being like, ‘Oh my god, music can be like this.’

on Bon Jovi was in a jokey mood as he walked on stage at London’s famous Palladium theatre, for what he called a “live album playback” of his band’s new album, This House Is Not for Sale. Although the followed three “tumultuous” years, involving the departure of long time guitarist Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi was on chatty form between songs, explaining the lyrics and sharing “his stories” with an audience of devoted fans. Opening with the title track, the band rattled through 15 album tracks and - despite

the audience not knowing the new material - it was greeted warmly. This was the second night of four theatre shows the band are playing to mark the new album’s release, having already visited their native New Jersey ahead of shows in Toronto and New York. It was, Jon said, like playing to “family and friends”. The 50-minute album was stretched out to an hour and a half live show with the added bonus of a two song encore which included fan favourite Bad Medicine from the band’s 1988 album New Jersey.

Pogba’s swirling shot hands France win

Pogba is mobbed by his team-mates after putting France in the lead.

AMSTERDAM, Oct 11 (Agencies): France midfielder Paul Pogba, the world’s most expensive player, scored with a swirling long-range shot after 30 minutes to secure a vital 1-0 win away to the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying on Monday. The victory at the Amsterdam Arena elevated the Euro 2016 runners-up to overwhelming favourites to finish top of Group A and qualify for the finals in Russia in 2018. France lead on seven points along with Sweden, who won 3-0 against Bulgaria, while Netherlands are third on four points. Although each country still has seven matches left, France’s win over the team

expected to be their toughest opposition in the section hands Didier Deschamps’ side a huge advantage. Manchester United midfielder Pogba hit his shot from midway between the halfway line and the edge of the Dutch penalty area and it swerved wickedly to fox goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who might have done better with his diving effort to save it. The Netherlands made vociferous claims for a penalty four minutes before halftime when the ball struck Laurent Koscielny’s arm as he dived to block Vincent Janssen’s close-range shot but Slovenian referee Damir Skomina turned down the Dutch appeals. Stekelenburg, playing only his

Djokovic wins at Shanghai Masters S HA N GHAI , O c t 1 1 (Agencies): Novak Djokovic made a winning return following a month-long injury layoff, beating Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-3 Tuesday in the second round of the Shanghai Masters. Djokovic hadn’t played a match since losing to Stan Wawrinka at the U.S. Open, pulling out of last week’s China Open with an elbow injury. The top-seeded Serb was rusty in his comeback in Shanghai — double-faulting four times and making 18 unforced errors with only 13 winners — but he had no trouble dispatching an even more erratic Fognini, who racked up 40 unforced errors of his own. In other matches, former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro faded down the stretch against 11th-seeded David Goffin, dropping serve in the 11th game of the third set and losing 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. The Argentine, on his own comeback from a series of career-threatening wrist injuries over the past several years, was trying to maintain the momentum that saw him win the Olympic silver medal in Rio de Janeiro and reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals

last month. “In the end of the match, I make mistakes with my forehands and in important moments, and I think he took all the chances to win the match,” Del Potro said. “But for me, it has been a great season. (I’m) trying to do a good comeback after many injuries. This is just a match.” Nick Kyrgios made a quick turnaround after capturing his third title of the year at the Japan Open on Sunday, defeating Sam Querrey 6-4, 6-4.

second international in four years, denied Kevin Gameiro in the opening 15 minutes and again shortly after halftime. The rebound from the second effort fell favourably for Antoine Griezmann who put his effort wide. The Everton keeper also used his feet to scramble the ball off his line after Pogba’s 66th minute header from a corner. Memphis Depay, who came on after 16 minutes for the injured Quincy Promes, had three chances to equalise, including a curling free kick that almost caught out Hugo Lloris and a close-range effort two minutes from time that the keeper kept out with a stunning one-handed save.

Bambolim, Oct 11 (IANS): The India U-16 team lost by a solitary goal to China in the ongoing BRICS U-17 football tournament at the Athletic Stadium here on Tuesday. With this loss, India find themselves at the bottom of the group and still to open their account, while China are on four points and sit on fourth, out of a possible twelve. The opening minutes of the match turned into a cagey affair in the midfield as both teams vied for possession, with neither emerging on top. With China defusing much of the Indian attacks from the flanks, the colts resorted to tacky passing in the midfield. In the 21st minute, Komal Thatal was found on the edge of the Chinese 18 yard box by a Boris pass, but the former could only manage to lob the ball over the Chinese custodian and over the Chinese goal, as India pressed for a goal. Two minutes later, Boris beautifully nutmegged his marker but failed to control the ball. With the Indian defence mopping up much of the

Chinese attacks, the first big chance for China came in the 28th minute from a free-kick, but Dheeraj saved. Three minute before half-time Amarjit darted towards the final third and a flailing Chinese body somehow thwarted his venomous shot, as both team went into the tunnel on level pegging at halftime with the scoreline reading 0-0. Dheeraj was once again called into action minutes into the second half and the lanky custodian proved vital between the sticks as he denied China twice from close range. Nine minutes later, an Indian corner whizzed in front of the Chinese goal but with neither team applied to make decent contact the opportunity went abegging. The Chinese defence line kept the Indian attack force at bay and despite numerous attempts at goal, the Indian colts were left reeling with failure to convert infront of goal. China scored in the dying embers of the match as the full-time scoreline read 0-1 in China’s favour.

“A thorough born on earth, Even among the wizards of Electricity you are, SANGMONGU Nungsangmanen Atsüngchanger. Today in your courtyard the Waromung students in tears, Read and share this song of honour. Our village remember you today; in the time of your vigour, In the time when there were no motor roads yet, From the end of the plains, Light engines and huge pipes strapped to logs were carried, Iron filled packs in relay on head-loads tied with strips of bark, So the Waromung Hydro Electricity was built. The light generated raised on the tips of bamboo stalks. At night, the Aos of the five Ranges, Craned their necks to gaze at the Waromung Star. In the year One thousand nine hundred and fifty two (1952), The one who first generated electricity in the Ao land Lifted up Waromung to the utmost skies. A work left as a legendary story among the Aos, A church building made solely of wood, Of a quarter measure of paddy sown, not a single pillar within. Could build such and your art and skills We see, and we your grandchildren are wonderstruck. The centenary memorial Centennial Tower, Made by the genius of your thoughts and brain. There is none to compare with, At the top of the Tower a huge bell With all your family names engraved was hung. In this the deepest significance we consider. Were it only possible, your wide knowledge and wisdom, As preserved food for a needy day hoarded Wish we could store .… Though the trunk is gone, from this trunk At least some offshoot will spring, is our faith. Grandfather .…Grandfather .…? Is today the last That you will arrive in the village? The Waromung Students Bid you Adieu.”. In our hearts always From all Family members DC-2261

India beat NZ to complete clean sweep India presented with ICC Test Championship mace

Indian team players pose for a photo with ICC trophy for No.1 test team after winning the test series against New Zealand in Indore on Tuesday. (PTI) Indore, Oct 11 (PTI): Ravichandran Ashwin mesmerised the New Zealand batsmen with another magical spell of spin bowling as India completed a 3-0 whitewash of the visitors by winning the third and final Test by a whopping 321 runs here today. Chasing an improbable 475-run target, Ashwin ripped through the brittle New Zealand batting line-up with a sensational spell of 7 for 59 to skittle the opposition for a paltry 153 in 44.5 overs with an entire day to spare at the Holkar Stadium, which hosted its first ever Test. The 30-year-old finished with a match haul of 13 for 140 and ended the series with a

bagful of 27 wickets to emerge as the standout performer in a thoroughly one sided series which helped India to regain number one position in Tests. Earlier, resuming at 18 for no loss, the hosts rode on Cheteshwar Pujara’s unbeaten 101, his eighth Test ton, and an aggressive 50 by comeback man Gautam Gambhir before declaring their second innings at 216 for three an hour before the tea break. There was hardly any resistance from the Kiwi batsmen as Ashwin scalped one wicket after another to demolish the opposition in just about three hours of play, much to the delight of a near capacity Dussehra crowd.

The pitch in this match did not turn as much as it did in the earlier two games but still New Zealand batsmen looked clueless against the Indian spinners. Indian coach Anil Kumble and his entire staff erupted in joy in the dressing room as Ashwin fittingly took the last wicket with a return catch of Trent Boult, triggering wild celebrations on the field as well. It was also Kumble’s first series win at home after the success in the West Indies. The focus will now shift to the five match ODI series beginning at Dharamsala from October 16 with Mahendra Singh Dhoni taking over the reins of the team from Kohli.

State TT championship 2016 underway

Correspondent KOHIMA, OCT 11 (NPN): The XII inter district and state Table Tennis Championship 2016 kicked started Tuesday morning at indoor Stadium Kohima with commissioner and secretary land resource Y. Kikheto Sema IAS as the chief guest. In his address, the chief guest said it would be not be proper for sportspersons to rely on state government alone to provide infrastructure since

there are hardly any funds for the state government to develop sports. He said schools, churches and village councils should get involved. While reminding that TT is one game that has low cost and does not need expensive infrastructures, he urged the players to look beyond state level championship. He also suggested that Naga Olympians; Dr. T.Ao and Chekrovoluo Swuro’s

name should be included in the school. President NTTA K. Tiayanger Tsudir delivered welcome address while Zulutila and Thejano Kirah and group enthralled the crowd with songs and choreography. Players from Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung are taking part in the championship. Dimapur and Kohima has entered the final in team championship.

India captain Virat Kohli was today presented with the ICC Test Championship mace for leading his team to the top of the Test Team Rankings. The mace was presented by former India captain and ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Sunil Gavaskar at a ceremony following the conclusion of the third and final Test against New Zealand in Indore after the home team completed a 3-0 whitewash. India were guaranteed number-one spot on the ICC Test Team Rankings after it took a 2-0 lead in Kolkata. Since the Test team rankings are only updated at the end of the series, India formally replaced Pakistan at the top of the table at the end of the Indore Test, which they won by 321 runs. “It’s an honour and a moment of great pride to receive the ICC Test Championship mace. To be recognised as the best in the traditional form of the game is as good as it gets for any team and stuff that dreams are made of,” Kohli said. Kohli became only the second India captain after Mahendra Singh Dhoni and 10th overall to receive the mace, even though it is for the third time since Kohli took over as captain that India have led the rankings table. India had topped the rankings very briefly in January-February this year as well as in August. India’s longest stint at the number-one position was from November 2009 to August 2011 under Dhoni.

Nishikori, Raonic to play in Brisbane SYDNEY, Oct 11 (Agencies): Defending champion Milos Raonic and world number four Kei Nishikori will use the Brisbane International as a warm-up event for the Australian Open in January, organisers said Tuesday, rounding out a strong men’s field. The pair join Swiss world number three Stan Wawrinka and 14-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal at the event from January 1-8, along with 10th ranked Dominic Thiem. Big-serving Canadian Raonic stunned Roger Federer to win the Brisbane tournament last year and is keen to defend his title. “I’ve made the previous two finals, and the challenge for me is to make it three in a row against a quality field of players all looking to start the season well,” said the world number six. “Playing Brisbane is the best way to build momentum heading into the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open.”

Tyrants FC, Forerunners enter pre-quarters

Correspondent Kohima, Oct 11 (NPN): Tyrants FC Khuzama, Kuki United FC and Forerunners FC IV NAP booked their pre-quarter berth after defeating their respective rival on Tuesday in the ongoing 17th NSF martyrs’ memorial trophy organized by Angami Students’ Union at Kohima local ground. In the 1st match of the day, Tyrants FC Khuzama defeated the Nagaland University Kohima Campus by a margin of 3 goals to 1. Both the teams scored a goal each till the 1st half.

The other captains to have received the mace are Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Steve Smith (all Australia), Andrew Strauss (England), Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla (both South Africa) and Misbah-ulHaq (Pakistan). Kohli credited his players for performing consistently to take the team to the top. “Individual performances are important, but in the end it is what those performances do for the team that matter. If we have been able to become the best in the world, it is because there is a lot of bonding among team members and there is always someone to raise his hand in a difficult situation. I think that is what makes a top side. “I would like to thank all players and support staff, who have all been part of our team because I feel such an achievement is only possible with contribution from all quarters. To reach the top of the Test rankings takes a lot of hard work and perseverance,” the India captain said. Kohli said playing Test cricket is an ambition for any cricketer and to be part of such a team is to be treasured. “We all grow up playing cricket, hoping to represent our country in Test cricket. But to be part of a team that does well continuously in Tests is something altogether different. I am confident we will continue to win matches at home as well as abroad in the coming seasons. I want this team to be remembered as one of the finest Test teams ever,” Kohli said.

ATK snatch draw against Mumbai in riveting ISL tie Mumbai, Oct 11 (IANS): Mumbai City FC paid the price for a late red card in the second half as Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat in an Indian Super League (ISL) encounter at the Mumbai Football Arena here on Tuesday. In tune with the festive mood on Dussehra, the tie was a riveting affair from start to finish. First, the hosts reaped the dividend of a fantastic first half when Matias Defederico (27th) found the back of the net to go into the break with their noses in front. But the visitors were allowed an escape route back into the game when Mumbai City FC midfielder Pronay Halder was sent off with a second yellow card in the 72nd minute. Soon after the Alexandre Guimaraes coached side were reduced to 10-men; Javi Lara scored with a long-ranger to level things for the former champions. The stalemate ended Mumbai’s all-win record in the first two games, keeping them rooted to the second spot with seven points from three outings.

ATK on the other hand, moved to the third position after bagging five points from three matches. Both sides missed their marquees in Diego Forlan (Mumbai City FC) and Helder Postiga (ATK). Bikramjit Singh was brought back in place of Jewel Raja after the former recovered from his injury. Mumbai benched Anwar Ali in favour of Brazilian Gerson. The hosts looked the likelier of the two sides to take the lead first after a barrage of attacks in the early exchanges forced ATK to drop deep into their own half. At one point, winger Sameehg Doutie was seen virtually playing at right back. All the pressure Mumbai applied centred around Defederico who was brilliant throughout the half and was rightly the goalscorer. Aiborlang Khongjee lobbed the ball for Defederico who showed exemplary skills to bring down the ball with a superb first touch and then take on Arnab Mondal to fire past Debjit into the bottom right corner. There was a brief stoppage in play when Tiri clattered

Players in action during an ISL match between Mumbai City FC and Atlético de Kolkata in Mumbai. (PTI) into teammate Borja Fernandes and the Spaniard had to be stretchered out, only to be back moments later. After the break, Iain Hume was replaced by Stephen Pearson raising a few eyebrows. Abhinas Ruidas was also drafted in by coach Molina to up the ante in place of the more defensive Bikramjit Singh. Ruidas injected the muchneeded pace into ATK’s attacks and trying to contain the flurry

of raids Pronay -- already on a yellow card -- committed a needless foul on Borja drawing the dreaded red card from the referee. Down to 10 men, Mumbai were always against the tide and ATK capitalised on the numerical advantage with the match on its last legs. Lara cut in from the left to let loose a rasping long-ranger that took a deflection off substitute Jackichand Singh to bulge the net.

PCB seeks to censure BCCI president Thakur

Anurag Thakur

KARACHI, Oct 11 (PTI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) delegation, which is set to attend the ICC’s Executive Board meeting in Cape Town this week, will seek to censure the president of the BCCI Anurag Thakur for his recent comments on Indo-Pak relations and cricket ties. A former chairman of the PCB Najam Sethi, who now heads the powerful executive committee, and Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed will attend the meeting in Cape Town since chairman Shaharyar Khan is recovering from a heart surgery in London. Before leaving for Cape Town, Sethi said that he would give a tough answer to Indian cricket officials this time but insisted that he would stick to PCB’s policy of keeping apart cricket and politics. An official source in the PCB said that Sethi was par-

ticularly unhappy with the recent statements of Thakur, in which he declared that India would not play cricket against a state which sponsors terrorism. “Pakistan’s stance is simple... first Anurag Thakur must clarify at the ICC meeting whether he gives statements as a politician of the ruling party in India or as President of the BCCI since the ICC constitution discourages politics in cricket,” the source said. The source added that the Pakistan delegation will also be talking about India’s refusal to play with them since 2007 in bilateral series but yet take home the lion’s share of profits made from Indo-Pak matches in ICC events. “Pakistan will be pushing for a review of the Big Three governance formula under which the head of corporate costs India take home nearly 32 percent of the earnings followed by England and Australia with 18 and 12 percent, which leaves nothing for other boards,” the source said. He said Pakistan will be presenting a paper at the ICC meeting, which will be discussing the ‘Big Three’ issue, which shows that while Pakistan only stands to make around USD 100 million from its share from corporate costs, India will make around USD 350 million despite not being willing to play Pakistan in bilateral series.
