LOVE ME, LOVE MY DOG Unconditional love is a myth or maybe applies to a mother to her daughter or a father to his son, nothing else could be called unconditional love or maybe it will turn into a kind of sick relationship based mainly on obsession. I am a grown up girl who have reached this conclusion and I am totally understanding; however, the thing that would really be weird to me is why some men fall in love (or that is what they think they did) with a girl then ask her to lose some weight, gain some weight, wear a veil, take it off, work or quit her job, go out with certain kind of friends, stop knowing some of her friends she used to know and all the other lame things some Egyptian men ask girls to do all the time to fit in their own criteria! Why pick a girl and decide to be in love with her, but still try to change every aspect of her personality? Trust me, if all that changes, she won’t be the girl you fell in love with in the first place, she will be someone else maybe a

shadow of a girl who used to be a person who knows what she likes, what she hates and who exactly she wished to be or aspire to be. As for the ladies, let me tell you if you change yourself for your partner, you will be lost, and if you breakup, you will be in a dangerous zone where you really don’t know who you are anymore, and maybe that is what he is trying to do; a sick way of possessing you to be only his and can’t function anymore without him telling you where to go, what to wear and who to talk to. If you want to change, make the change for yourself, to work on yourself and to be a better being, it is totally okay to re-evaluate your priorities and choices every now and then, but only for yourself not for others. As for Mr. Right, make it clear that ‘if you love me then love my dog, my friends, my lifestyle, my work because simply, (and I quote what our cover star Dorra said in her interview) ‘This is who I am.’”

mira Tharwat talks to young Egyptian designer Nesma Helmy, who reveals all about how the shift came about from science to fashion, her latest collection ‘Retro Chic,’ and how she sees the fashion industry in Egypt.

Tell us more about yourself … I’m 33 years old and I’m a typical Libran. I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Science, but I have shifted my career and took a Styling Diploma in the FDC. How was the shift from studying science to fashion? The shift came after I have discovered that scientific research is very difficult in our country. I actually always had the talent and passion of fashion inside me and I was able to find the artistic side of science, but the decision to shift my career came to me after practicing the scientific research field and couldn’t fulfill my passion in it. What and who inspires you? Anything and anyone can inspire me; a photo, a movie, a person walking on the

street, colours of a scarf, a rainbow, a story, a song, an animal...etc. It’s infinite, you can get inspired by the weirdest things to others, but you see things with your own perspective. How did the idea of running your own ready-to-wear collection came about? Taking the step to make a RTW collection was not that easy, it came after a lot of thinking and consideration. I want to expand my brand and take it to the next level so, making it more reachable and affordable is the right thing to do to make it happen. Studying the market and its requirements is not that easy, and of course taking the decision is the hardest thing to do especially knowing that our market does not have the number of retailers and buyers we are hoping for, and knowing that when they deal with Egyptian

designers they don’t give them the same level of professionalism they give the ones they buy their products from in the outer markets. Tell us more about your Winter 2016 Collection ‘Retro Chic’… This Retro Chic Collection is very dear to my heart because it came after a long time away the spotlights, which was for many reasons, so it was made with passion and love. I’ve always been fascinated with the era of the 50’s and 60’s, they actually inspired me. I knew I was going to use this inspiration someday, and I finally did. What is the significance of the name ‘Ritro Chic’? The name Retro Chic represents the soul and style of the collection, which is old times style with a little touch of modern conserving the chic, sophisticated, elegant soul of those times.. What are the fabrics you used? The fabrics used were of a very wide range mostly Tulle, Silk, Teftta, Lace, Sarma embroidered Chiffon, Organza and custom made Silk and Sarma embroideries added on Tulle.. Who are the celebrities you dream about dressing them? Always imagined Hollywood beautiful celebrity Angelina Jolie in my gowns.. No harm in dreaming big! What is your advice to emerging fashion designers? Be original, never repeat yourself, trust in your talent and believe that God will never fail you, if you do all what it takes and all what you can to prove yourself, you can! Never look back at the gossips and never underestimate other new designers around you, and don’t believe that you are safe having your own place, you dont! What are the biggest challenges local fashion designers encounter while bringing their designs to life? Challenges are a lot! Frankly speaking, we don’t even have a fashion industry in Egypt, so we are holding the biggest responsibility ever as we are actually building it, then comes the smaller problems concerning the market, availability of workers with reasonable prices, fabrics and the retailers and buyers, who don’t even consider Egyptian designers in their plans.. What are the fashion faux-pas that Egyptian ladies should avoid while parting this Valentine’s? The biggest trick about Valentine›s is that wearing red became a trend on that day. So your challenge is to keep wearing red in different styles and moods, do not repeat yourself and stand out in the crowd with your soul and it will stand out your look! Don’t try too hard to grab the eyes, it can be risky and you can over do it. Stay simple and stand out only by your soul. What do you aspire to for Nesma Helmy Couture in the future? I do aspire to a lot for my brand. I know that someday it will be International, and I have trust in God and believe that He will make this dream come true. I dream to dress the most beautiful celebrities in the most prestigious events and most importantly, I dream of building a fashion industry in Egypt with all my colleagues, and have the privilege of representing our country properly in worldwide fashion events.

HOW COMPETITION

COULD

h

ow many times in your relationship you went into an endless argument, which can be repeated again and again! It’s kind of normal, isn’t it? And how many times did you strive to be right in these arguments? How many times did you find yourself disagreeing with your partner, trying to prove your point? If you’re a competitive personality, who strives to always be right, who believes that there are wins and losses in your fights with your partner, and you find yourself competing with your partner to prove that you are better then, you need to stop and think again. This Valentine’s, Sherouk Nafie helps you understand the truth behind competition in your relationship, the negative impact it has and how to overcome it so, you’d enjoy a year full of love and understanding… LOUNGE 26

RUIN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WINNING DEFINITION

First, you need to understand why you love winning that much. Winning brings us recognition; it validates our efforts and brings us happiness, winning makes things seem to be worth it. However, when it comes to a relationship, you need to understand that competition is the worst enemy.

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT BE COMPETITIVE IN A RELATIONSHIP

You need to clearly discover and accept yourself clearly. Don’t compare yourself to someone else or your actions to others. You need to know that we are human beings and we all do mistakes, you need to learn to accept the fact that it is okay to be wrong at times and its fine if you don’t win.

TRUTH IS

Truth is, your competitive nature will influence your partner to do the same thing, as by winning all the time your partner’s self esteem, ego & self image will go down. Your partner will feel that he is always wrong, and he will start fighting back. If you always try to be the winner, eventually you’ll end up losing.

HOW COMPETITIVE YOU ARE

Now you need to ask yourself these questions and test your competitive skills: Are you trying to feel better than your partner regarding your role in the relationship? Do you feel superior when he fails at something? Do you often try to turn the table so he would apologize? Do you always complain because you only need what you need from him?

If you answer yes to any of these questions then, perhaps you are competitive with your partner.

Do you ever take no for an answer? All what you need to know is that if you are a competitive person, you need to know that competition will destruct your relationship, we are all competitive in a way, but too much competition can ruin your love life because you’ll end up winning alone! You need to feel and understand that a relationship is about two players on the same

team, you’re playing to build a successful life and win together not against each other. You need to realize that competition can only be useful when it motivates us, but harmful competition with our significant others results in stress, aggression and broken hearts for both partners.

Now that you know that it takes two to tango, make this year’s resolution reconsidering your competitive attitude, and make sure to let your partner know that he’s worthy, he’s right sometimes or at least he has his points and his way of thinking that you should accept and validate.

Congrats on ‘Kedbet Kol Youm,’ how were you nominated for the role? Actually, the cast wanted me to do the role but, I was busy filming another movie with Mohamed Hefzy. Luckily, the shooting was postponed so, when I met Amr Youssef during the ceremony when we were being awarded for our roles in ‘Zarf Esweed’ TV serial he asked me to join the cast since I am free, which happened. The cast and the producers are all my friends; I had never met with director Khaled El Halafawy before that. I didn’t take time thinking about the role because Hadya’s character and the movie is romantic comedy and the shooting was in Marsa Allam so, it was really fun to cut the drama I’ve done and change the mood after the hard phase I’ve been through. The story also is interesting as it is about marriage. Speaking of marriage, what are the things you are scared of the most ? I am always scared of marriage (laughs), I am a runaway bride, I get so close to taking the step then, I return back quickly instead of taking the positive side and think of the cons. I am afraid of failure, but now I am not like before, I don’t panic from marriage like I used to, actually, if I found the right person, I will get married very soon, I won’t take time, the problem now is to find the right man because they are very few out there. For example, Hadya in ‘Kedbet Kol Youm’ got married to someone she doesn’t love and doesn’t get along with just because she felt she is about to turn 30, but when she got married she realized they don’t get along, I believe marriage is already very challenging so the couple needs to be really in love in order to be able to survive. For example, if I am having a misunderstanding with my partner, I would try hard to end the conflict because I love him and we can’t stay angry with one another for too long. What are the things that might kill love? I believe real sincere deep love doesn’t die, but the relationship could be too stressful and full of disagreements and not letting go, extreme jealous, possessiveness, or lack of attention, or miscommunication also end any relationship.

How was the movie received in Dubai? The feedback was amazing and very positive, people loved it more than we expected. We had good expectations in the premier in Egypt, but didn’t expect it to receive such success. All the people who attended the movie enjoyed it. Who designed your stunning dress that you wore at the premier in Dubai? I am glad you like it (smiles), it is by an Emirati designer called Ziena Zaki, she is well known there and considered one of the best designers in the Arab World. I try to choose the outfits that suit me and that are trendy regardless of the designer. Tell us more about ‘Mawlana’… I finished shooting the movie and it will participate in various festivals then, it will be out in cinemas, the movie might raise controversy as it tackles a sensitive issue based on Ibrahim Essa’s novel, which is

about the life of a Muslim preacher played by Amr Saad, and I play the role of his wife Omaima, it is important to have deep movies beside the light comedy ones. And what about ‘El Bab Yfaweet Amal?’ It is a light comedy movie that might be in cinemas by Sham El Neseem, starring Sherif Salama and I, I liked the movie from its title. I play the role of a lawyer, it is a situational comedy, which tackles relationships as well. Sorry for your father’s loss, what did you learn from him? I think about him every day and till now I can’t believe that I lost him. I took a lot from his personality, both of us are perfectionists; we aspire to perfection all the time, we see what is wrong with the thing. We both are social and value friendship a lot, my father’s

childhood friends were beside him till his last day. We both value work a lot and try to succeed in it. Also, our sense of humor is the same, we love travelling a lot, and we used to travel together. Where will you spend this year’s Valentine’s? I usually spend Valentine’s Day with my friends, I actually don’t believe in Valentines; one doesn’t need a special day to show his love to his partner, this should be all year long. However, if a person happens to have a special person on that day, it would be

great to celebrate it with him and show him how much you love him. Do you believe friendship can replace love sometimes? Of course, this is the thing that replaces love most of the time, true deep friendship can sometimes be better than love. What was the best gift you’ve ever received? I don’t remember (smiles), but I believe and value simple gifts that comes from the heart, what affects me a lot also is the unexpected gift, the surprising factor touches me a lot. Also, sometimes fans send me gifts and I love that a lot. Once I was in a friend’s Katb Ketab and a lady stopped me and told me I love you very much, and I don’t want to take a photo with you or anything I just want to give you this; she gave me Sebha and prayed for me and left, it was very touching,

she really made my day especially that it came from a woman. Do you love pets? Have you ever had any? I once had a Labrador dog named ‘Bashamela,’ I had it last year, but unfortunately, I couldn’t keep it because I travel a lot. Bashamela was such a mischievous dog (laughs), it used to eat the sofa. “Love me, love my dog,” what are the conditions you have for your future partner? Myself and who I am, you can’t change my personality and who I am, my best friends, my family, and of course my career because I worked hard to reach the level I am in now so you can’t come and ask me to quit unless it is my decision, not an obligation. You said in a show that I regret knowing

some lovers in my life, would you tell us why? Simply because he didn’t deserve my emotions, care and affections. He didn’t value his partner,he only focused on what he wants and what he needs. It is normal to regret being in such a relationship because it consumes your emotions and energy. What are the moments you regret being an actress in? The pressure of being famous, when you feel stressed and pressured in TV shows like the trend these days is to integrate the celebrity on air and the more you embarrass him, the more successful the show is. The excessive amount of gossips and interference in your personal life, being under the spot light every moment is too stressful. Also, the stress of work itself and trying your best to succeed every time. There are a lot of factors behind

being an actress that people don’t know about, the best thing actually is people’s love, but even that can’t be guaranteed all the time. If you were chosen as UN Ambassador, what would be the case you would care for? A lot of things, but most importantly the refugees, I would also care about health for the underprivileged. When doing charity we have a lot of things to focus on. I will do anything that I can to help anyone, I don’t

even have to be a Goodwill Ambassador to do so. What are your wishes for Tunisia and the Arab world in general? I wish peace and nothing but peace. We live in a very difficult time; everyday part of our Arab world is falling apart and unfortunately, I can’t do anything about it. I hope we can co-exist as human beings who have the right to live, which is the simplest right any human being should aspire to.

CHRISTIAN BALEinThe Big Short

What initially attracted you to The Big Short? Adam’s (director, Adam Mckay’s) obsession with it. That was the initial attraction. I spoke with him on the phone and to hear how obsessed, disgusted, enraged and humorous he was - all at the same time - was infectious…That and the opportunity to play this incredible character. Tell us about him. A very, very interesting man, Mike Burry. He was the first one to raise his hand and say what was about to happen (the collapse of the US housing market) and exactly when it was going to happen as well. How would you describe him? He’s a man who lives and breathes numbers in a way that I can’t even begin to comprehend; a man who knows himself very well, who has a brain unlike any other man I’ve ever met... I mean, he’ll sometimes stay up for days at a time just analyzing numbers. I truly believe that that’s his true passion. It’s not earning money. And so he’s very different from so many other Wall Street types. I understand he’s also in the film? Very briefly. There’s a moment when you get the character played by Tracy Letts (‘Lawrence Fields’)arriving at the office. Mike is one of the employees talking on the phone that he walks past. You met with him before filming? I went up to visit him in Northern California. We had a whole day scheduled, with breaks for lunch and going off and doing this that and the other. Well, we sat down… I don’t know what it was, 8.30 in the morning? And we didn’t get up from those chairs until nine hours later. It was a very engrossing conversation, one of the most interesting conversations I’ve ever had. What did you know about the subject before taking on the film? I’d read all about it in the newspapers. But beyond Hank Paulson, Ben Bernanke and AIG... So I learned a great deal from Mike. Retained it whilst we were making the film and then just let it go immediately afterwards (laughs).

LOUNGE 40

What was your preparation like? It’s wonderful when you get the opportunity to just study people to the degree that I do without them calling the police and saying they’re being stalked (laughs)... So, an immense amount, from my time with Mike. Also there was his physicality. He’s quite a large guy - he was weightlifting during that time, so having to try to duplicate that, as well as the ‘Supercuts’ haircut, learning the Pantera, “By Demons Be Driven” drum piece... There was a great deal. Does prepping a role like this differ drastically from, say, Dicky Eklund in The Fighter? Not drastically, no. You’re ending up in a very different place. But in essence, it’s the same. You want this person to carry you along and allow you to be a sort of fly on the wall in their life. You must also, however, share yourself with them in order to gain trust. Because why on earth should somebody divulge things about themselves, if you’re not willing to divulge things about yourself as well…? It’s the same basic principle, but radically different people, so you find yourself in very different environments. But that’s whole point – learning to adjust so that you become entirely comfortable in their environment. And then you’ve nailed it. What was it like when you saw the film finally cut together? Loved it. I immediately said, “Please play that again. I want to see it straight away.” It was so much more engaging, entertaining, funny and terrifying than I had imagined it could be. The film has been tipped as a top contender heading into awards season. You’ve been there before. What’s that like for you? You know it’s a lovely compliment, but who the hell knows…? I mean it’s absolutely wonderful, the quality of talent involved in the film. Does that translate to awards? Sometimes. Sometimes not. But what I do know is this… It’s got to be the process that you love. The motivation must always be, “I

i

n The Big Short, Christian Bale stars as Michael Burry, a heavymetal loving neurologist turned money-manager, who first predicted the inevitable collapse of the US housing market back in 2005 and the havoc it would unleash three years later. We met with Christian Bale at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles where he discussed his work on The Big Short.

just want to delve into this character.” If as a byproduct you get an award? Fantastic. But if that’s ever you’re motivation, you’re f*****. What was the biggest challenge making the film? I liked Mike so much… But I didn’t want to convince myself that he was a hero. I just found him to be so engaging, so generous with me,that you start getting to that point where you go, “I don’t want to share anything negative about this guy.” But the fact is, there’s no story without anything that appears to be negative about a person. You have to kick against that to tell a good story. And Mike completely understood that. He totally gets that. And he’s the first to say, no, he was no hero… He was betting against something. There’s nothing heroic about that at all. But I love the way that he film toys with the audience into believing that these four men are heroes. They’re not. They’re just telling the truth, but the moral environment of Wall Street is so dubious that they appear to be heroic, just because they’re telling the truth. Do you think we’ve learned from our mistakes? Or are we doomed to repeat them? We shouldn’t be. We should absolutely have sorted this out… And everyone knows exactly what needed to have been done. Breaking up the big banks. Making sure that nobody is too big to fail in the future. And that hasn’t happened. It can all happen again… What’s the most surprising thing you learned that you didn’t know, going in? That it’s not as complicated as you think it is. That I’m not as dumb as I thought I was. That I actually do understand far more about it than I thought… Look, I don’t go with the acronyms. I don’t go with those intentionally confusing titles. But present to me the big picture, present to me the consequences, and I understand it completely. I think that’s what most people will find as well. You don’t need to understand finance in the slightest in order to understand this film.

DR. HOSSAM TAHSEEN 4D DYNAMIC LIPOSCULPTURE VS LIPOSUCTION a

mira Tharwat talks to Dr. Hossam Tahseen, Faculty Member and Professor of Medicine Plastic Surgery, Cairo University, being the only doctor in Egypt and the Middle East who’s performing Dr. Hoyos’ 4D Lipo advanced techniques and Hi-Def Lipo, about the latest techniques in Liposuction, the difference between it and 4D Dynamic Liposculpture, and how it helps in reshaping the body with no need for diet.

What are the latest inventions regarding Liposuction? The Liposuction procedure has developed a lot in the past 5 years, it got totally transformed into a new revolutionary technique called High Definition Liposculpture and lately into the 4D Dynamic Liposculpture, which score much higher accurate results with almost no side effects. Unlike traditional Liposuction, we no longer work with body fats alone, but we work on the muscles, to reshape the body and get the perfect curves and muscles shape to appear, which presents the ‘Dynamic Definition” concept in where the body parts look aligned and in-shape together not only in “static” position but in “dynamic” motion. 4D Dynamic Liposculpture fixes the “plastic” appearance that not only incorporates motion, but flows with it. It does this by integrating a second set of pre-surgical markings, drawn according to the patient’s muscles in a static position and in dynamic motion.

and the recovery time due to the use of full anesthesia and the side effect of the possible bleeding due to the surgical procedure. But finally, with High Def Liposculpture, it could be done only with local Anastasia and without any surgery through advanced technology and the revolutionary techniques of Dr. Hoyos. Dr. Hoyos is one of the pioneers of Plastic Surgery worldwide, he’s the inventor of High Definition Lipo and the 4D Lipotechniques, I had the pleasure training and working with Dr. Hoyos in his own clinic in Columbia where I got licensed as the first doctor in the Middle-East who performs 4D Dynamic Definition Body Contouring.

You are the only doctor in Egypt who applies (4D) liposuction and other advanced body contouring techniques in plastic surgery; tell us more about it… It started years ago when I was looking after new advanced techniques to perform in Egypt, one of the main challenges of body contouring back then was the results accuracy

Who are the patients that you won’t recommend liposuction for? In theory, everyone can benefit from 4D Liposculpture, some few cases where the body mass index are more than 35 may need to make other treatments prior the Liposculpture.

LOUNGE 44

What are the biggest challenges that you encounter while sculpting the body? The biggest challenge is to get the optimal results in all the cases, which mean there’s no good case and bad case, and to reach this I have to tailor the procedure case by case in order to reach the optimal result for everyone.

Some patients complain that after doing liposuction to certain parts of the body the fats return but in different undesired areas how to avoid that? This problem is no longer exist in the 4D Dynamic body Sculpting. The 4D Sculpt uses a customized combination of anatomical landmarks to prevent deformities. That is why 4D Sculpt is called 4 dimensional Liposculpture. It uses height, width, depth, and dynamic motion. 4D Sculpt makes the natural progression of the body apparent according to muscle activity therefore the fats distribution in the body are perfectly aligned that can’t allow returning of fats in other areas. In your opinion being Faculty member and professor of Medicine Plastic Surgery, Cairo University and is the only doctor in Egypt and the Middle East who’s performing Dr. Hoyos’ 4D Lipo advanced techniques and Hi-Def Lipo how do you find Egypt’s development in body sculpturing so far? The Body Sculpting and Plastic Surgery in general have progressed a lot in Egypt in the past 10 years, especially with the population

LOUNGE 45

growth and the open up of the modern international communication, now doctors can have much wider exposure to knowledge and up-2-date technology that have certainly impacted positively on the Plastic Surgery field in Egypt. What are your tips to patients who want to do high definition liposuction? The 4D Liposculpture it’s not just fat removal operation, it’s total life transformation, a first step to adapt a healthy lifestyle where one can eat well, work well, live their lives without physical or psychological barriers anymore, this need strong well and persistence to reach amazing results.

LOUNGE 46

Are there any dangers of doing liposuction? The dangers are almost down to none. The fact it’s performed only with local anesthesia and without surgery, made the 4D Liposculpture one of the safest operation worldwide. Are there certain diet or exercise the patient should follow in order to maintain the success of liposuction? There’s “Care & Control” program, which is series of Massage sessions the patient has to do post the operation to ensure reaching the optimal results and some exercises with like walking or light weight training sometimes might be recommended, but there’s no need for diet at all.

What are the most common mistakes by plastic surgeons in Egypt? I think the main mistake is how clearly to know the patients’ needs and their body nature. The body sculpting is not medical procedure, but rather artistic procedure, a doctor needs strong sense of art and beauty, where they can sense the modern definition of beauty and how to apply individually on each case. Are there any celebrities of your patients? All my patients are celebrities in the eyes of their friends, partners and families.

SOHA EL TORGOMAN

LOUNGE

THERE IS A MAN BEHIND EVERY WOMAN’S SUCCESS

She is a board member of the Egyptian hotel association Chairman of the Red Sea Branch, and recently held the position of Cluster general manager of Ramses Hilton and Hilton Cairo World Trade Center Residence, Amira Tharwat talks to Mrs. Soha El Torgoman about the story behind her success and the future of tourism in Egypt. LOUNGE 50

What is the difference between being the general manager of Hilton Hurghada and cluster general manager of Ramses Hilton and Hilton Cairo World Trade Center? The challenges are more about moving from a resort to living in the city; in Hurghada, things were so laid back and relaxing, but in Cairo, the rhythm of the city is fast. Also, as a female let me tell you the whole wardrobe changed from smart casual to formal suites. The lifestyle changed from walking on the beach to work, it’s not an option to walk from the hotel to the Center in Cairo, as a city in general it is a monster; it swallows you. You were internationally recognized as the first Egyptian female General Manager by the U.N. World Tourism Organization in 2007 World Tourism Day, who are the people behind your success? First of all, my husband, without him I wouldn’t have managed to reach or do anything of what I’ve done so far. As we say, behind every successful man a woman standing behind him, same applies to women. If my husband wasn’t that understanding, life would have been more difficult. I also moved from Cairo when I became the general manager of Hilton Sokhna then Hurghada. What are the challenges females encounter in Egypt when running such position? I thought only females within the orient are those who suffer from this racism and being part of a male dominated society, but when I met working ladies worldwide I figured out that it’s a general problem for females worldwide even in U.S. and Europe, but the percentage is lower of course. Being the first female GM in Egypt, I paved the way for our gender to rule (smiles) so, now it is more acceptable, in the past I used to encounter a lot of challenges. People thought that females’ capabilities are minimal; she could be number two, but not the leader. I was dealing with upper Egyptians and I had to give a rough attitude to make the people I am dealing with take me seriously and forget that they are dealing with a female. Also, the biggest challenge is that there is no place for failure because if you did, they will put the blame on your gender, and if you succeed, they will say you are successful because you are a failure in your personal life, though when a man succeeds, they take it for granted that his personal life is going well. However, I believe that the position of a hotel’s GM best suits a female because

she is the lady of the house and has eyes for details; a hotel is a big home for me. What are your plans for renovating Ramses Hilton? My main focus and the plan for the hotel in 2016 is to renovate the last three floors, make a new lounge, and then of course change the lobby, it will change 180 degrees. Who is Ramses Hilton’s ideal guest? In Cairo, things differ from Hurghada, the tourist in Hurghada comes to enjoy the sun and relax, so it would be really hard to ruin his vacation especially that he comes for a week so, if anything happens, you can make it up for him, but in Cairo most of our guests are business men and their rhythm is really fast and they stay for a couple of days only so, we should be up to the challenge in order not to make his day any harder, punctuality is a must especially that outside the hotel the traffic is frustrating so we make sure not to make it any harder for him. How do you see the future of investment in Egypt? Actually, I believe that Egypt soon will be one of the best countries for investment in the future, but how we can make this happen in the tourism industry is the question. I believe that the focus shouldn’t be on building more hotels and rooms, I think we should stop expanding and start working on the hotels and resorts we already have. We should focus more on the quality rather than the quantity. The demand is less than the supply so, I think enough supply and I have already said that to the minister of tourism in the last meeting we had together being Board Member of the Egyptian Hotel Association and Chairman of the Red Sea branch. If we want to make more hotels, we should spread in more deserted areas that have all the qualifications for being a new hotspot to attract tourists like Halayb and Shalateen, the sea and the weather over there is amazing. And, we have to make a long term plan, for the coming 25 years, not merely 5 years as we do here in Egypt. How can we encourage tourism in Egypt during such hard phase? We need to raise more awareness to the Egyptian people, that is actually how we attract tourists, we have said that we have a beautiful weather and spectacular monuments more than enough already, every tourist knows this very well, but we should rather focus more on raising awareness to the Egyptians, the citizen and the government

employees as well. Tourism is not about how many tourists who visit Egypt or the number of hotel rooms occupied, it is the country’s investment. I did a study and discovered that the hotels consume 51% of any local product in Egypt. So, when this hotel doesn’t work the factories will be severally affected. The simple worker should know that tourism will directly reflect on his income. This will affect the whole culture and people will respect tourists, stop polluting the streets and care about the country’s image. Thirteen billion dollars are nothing compared to the attractions Egypt has. For example, we started making courses for policemen who work at the airport, I believe that is a very good step and needs to be announced properly so the whole world knows about it. What would you like to tell tourists who want to come to Egypt, but have concerns about their safety? I always tell tourists or foreigners who want to visit Egypt but have safety concerns, what happened in Paris didn’t happen in Egypt, and the number of people who died can’t be compared to anything that happened in Egypt with all the challenges we have, and fighting terrorism in Sinai. As for the Russian airplane, that is an incident that happens everywhere in the world including the United States. Hilton participates in various charity events related to the Egyptian Food Bank, tell us more about it.. It is a protocol that Hilton is having with the Egyptian Food Bank; our untouched food that remains from the open buffets goes to the Food Bank in a form of separate decent hot meals. In Hurghada, we also distribute it to the schools, the Egyptian Food Bank also did an initiative to make a kitchen inside the schools to provide the students with hot meals and did a competition between the mother’s to find the best ones that fit, because mothers are the ones who care the most about their children’s hygiene. She also gets paid and goes back home with food for her and the rest of her family members. We took the mothers who won and trained them in our kitchens in Hilton. This was a great thing, it was even reflected on the number of attendance; kids stopped skipping school because the meal encouraged them to attend. Is the hotel planning to participate in supporting tourism campaigns in Egypt like joining #Thisisegypt campaign, which was launched by the minister of Tourism? It’s an individual thing, we all participate in it, if I see a nice scenery myself, I take a photo and put it under the #thisisegypt.

Capricorn Dec.23 - Jan.20 Love is more or less stable this month, nothing special one way or another, it doesn’t seem a major priority. Most of you are satisfied with the status quo. Finance is still very important – you’re still in the midst of a yearly financial peak, but career takes a back seat. In fact, this is the type of month, from the 17th onwards, where you measure career success in monetary terms. By this measure, the career is successful this month. This is a time for a confidential career profile. Focus on the things that make career success possible: emotional wellness, a stable home and family life. The money rolls in this month. Happy job opportunities have now come to you since the beginning of the year. There is another delightful opportunity happening from the 5th to the 7th, you could be travelling during that period too. Health and energy are efficient this month. You can enhance it further by paying greater attention to the spine, knees, teeth and bones until the 14th, and the ankles and calves after the 14th.

Aquarius

Jennifer Aniston, February 11, 1969

Jan.21 - Feb.19 There is much conflict happening there, the demands of the career seem strong. So, it is high time to shift some energy and attention to the home, family and your emotional needs. You won’t be in a position to disregard the career, but you can start to downplay it a bit. You’re still in a happy and prosperous period; you’re still having a life more or less on your own terms and are still in a period of maximum offensive power and independence. The challenge will be what you do with these gift, how you will use them. Your personal pleasure peak, which began on January 20, gets extended this month. So, there is much fun and personal pleasure happening. Singles have the option of genuine love or ‘fun love’ this period. Also, you count on the support of the spouse, partner or current love, and he/she appears to be very helpful. Social connections also seem helpful. There is a very nice payday on the 28th and 29th.

Pisces Feb.20 - Mar.21 Love is always a balancing act this month. Your interest and the interest of the spouse, partner or current love seem diametrically opposed. You need to use your way; the beloved wants his or her way, compromise will be essential. There are cheerful romantic opportunities from the 5th to the 7th and from the 9th to the 11th. Prosperity is always strong this month and will be still greater after the 19th, favourable job opportunities are coming to you from the 19th onwards. Career is still successful, but you’re working harder, overcoming more obstacles, this month, especially after the 19th. Like last month, there is deliberate, steady, methodical progress. Health was good last month and is successful in the month ahead. Until the 19th you respond beautifully to spiritual-type therapies. Health is enhanced by ankle and calf massage. After the 19th enhance the health through foot massage. Spiritual therapies are robust after the 19th as well. Computers and high tech gadgetry seem temperamental, unstable, from the 1st to the 5th, some of it might need replacing.

Aries Mar.22 - Apr.20

Happy Birthday

Aquarius LOUNGE 70

The love life this month seems happy. From the 5 February to the 8th, there is great passion for the beloved. Singles have sexual opportunity. From the 9th to the 11th, there are cheerful romantic and social opportunities and singles can meet someone special during that period. Those already in a relationship have more romance in their relationship. Health and energy are considerably improved this month. You can enhance them further by giving more attention to the spine, knees, teeth and bones until the 14th. Career is always good, although not as active as the past two months. Pay rises are always likely (if they haven’t happened yet). Bosses, elders and parent figures are sympathetic to your financial goals. Your financial judgment is sound as well.

Taurus

Gemini

Apr.21 - May 21

May.22 - Jun.21

In February 2016, there is a sudden, unexpected romantic or social opportunity from the 5th to the 8th. The 9th to the 11th brings sexual opportunity. Spiritual compatibility is perhaps just as important as physical chemistry these days. Health became more delicate on January 20 and needs some attention being given to it this month – until the 19th. This, however, is a short-term problem and isn’t the trend for the year ahead. The most important thing is the maintenance of high energy levels. You’re busy and successful, but don’t overwork. Enhance the health further by paying greater attention to the spine, knees, teeth, bones, skin and overall skeletal alignment until the 17th. Finances still get a lot better this month than last. Until the 14th it is prepared to set up savings and investment plans – ways to achieve long-term fiscal goals. You’re still in a period of career success this month; a yearly career peak.

The love life seems more active this month. The 5th to the 7th and the 9th to the 11th seem especially active and happy times. There are delightful romantic opportunities for singles, and family and family connections are playing a part here. Nonetheless, again, as was noted last month, there’s no need to rush into anything. Health, energy and self-confidence are considerably improved over last month. You’re in a very satisfactory period, especially until the 14th, for weight loss regimes. After the 19th, health will need more attention, though. The most important thing is to have sufficient rest. You’re working hard from the 19th onwards; the career is happy and successful, but just wants to overdo things. Improve your health in the ways mentioned last month. Spiritual healing is powerful from the 5th to the 8th. You are in a yearly career peak which will continue well into next month. A very fortunate career opportunity happens on the 28th and 29th.

Cancer

Leo

Jun.22 - Jul.23

Jul.24 - Aug.23

This month is the time to concentrate on your outer goals; your career objectives. Home and family are, always critical to you, but you can serve them best by being successful in the world. Children and children figures in your life are especially valuable career motivators this month. And often ‘out of the mouth of babes’ good career ideas come. Also, money can come to you through insurance claims, trust funds or tax refunds. If you have estate, tax or insurance claims, this is a good month to deal with those things. Spousal support still seems convincing. The spouse, partner or current love is in a yearly financial peak and is likely to become increasingly supportive. Those of you of the appropriate age should do your estate and tax planning now.

You’re still distant from yourself, but contemporaneous with others this month, still in the midst of a yearly love and social peak, still at the height of personal popularity. Health still needs watching until the 19th so, it is advised to get more rest. Also, February 2016 is an excellent month for starting new projects or launching new products into the world. If you’re starting something different, now is high time to do it, the 8th to the 19th is the best time this month. Finances are considerably improved and the money is rolling in, the 5th to the 7th are excellent paydays. This month, your social popularity and social contacts helps the bottom line now. Often opportunities for business partnerships or joint ventures happen under this transit. You seem to be very generous with others, especially the spouse, partner or current love.

Virgo

Libra

Aug.24 - Sep.23

Sep.24 - Oct.23

On the 19th, you begin a yearly love and social peak, you’re meeting spiritual and artistic kinds of people. Other types don’t interest you very much. Spiritual compatibility is likely to be just as important as physical magnetism at the moment. Love waits for you as spiritual or charitable events, perhaps at the yoga studio or meditation class or a spiritual lecture given by a visiting guru. Guru-type figures are playing cupid from the 19th onwards, and there is a romantic meeting with a saintly person on the 28th or 29th. This month is wonderful for launching new projects, for starting a new business or product, you should see fast progress towards your goals. The 8th to the 22nd is the best period of a good month. Learn as much as you can about psychic healing until the 19th.

Normally you’re very much the romantic type, but these days you’re more practical. Wealth is a turn-on in love. Material gifts turn you on. This is how you show love. This is how you feel loved. You appear to be meeting wealthier kinds of people these days. For singles romantic opportunities happen as you pursue your normal financial goals and people engaged in your finances. You like to socialize with people you do business with and fall in love with business with friends. Much of your socializing this month seems business related. Appreciate the love life for what it is, but marriage is not advisable this year. The month ahead is basically happy; you’re in the midst of a yearly personal pleasure peak. This is a time to enjoy life and indulge in leisure and creative kinds of activities. Being in the creative flow is part of the great pleasures in life.

Scorpio

Sagittarius

Oct.24 - Nov.22

Nov.23 - Dec.22

Love looks happy this month; it is on the brink of home. A very enjoyable romantic meeting happens between the 9th and the 11th. It is important to project love and warmth to others this month, make it a project. Love is still close to home, a romantic evening at home is more pleasurable than a night out on the town. There is more socializing at home and with the family. Family members want to do cupid. Old flames from the past can be there in the picture. There is a tendency to want to re-live happy love experiences from the past. The problem with this is because you lose the ‘here and now’ moment. You could be losing an experience that is better that what you once had. It is also an excellent month for starting a new business, a new project or for starting a new product. Also, this time is a perfect for psychological therapies, a momentous month for resolving old traumas, closing the book on them.

The love life is much improved. The 5th to the 7th looks exceptionally suitable for the love life. There is a happy romantic experience. Wealth seems the foremost romantic turn-on at this time. After the 14th, you’re attracted to intellectual brilliance; the genius type. You like the beloved to be unconventional. You like doing unconventional things – unconventional dates. Love is situated in the neighbourhood and at educational-type functions from the 14th onwards. You’re still in a period of intense personal power and independence. Thus, it provides an opportunity to take personal responsibility for your own happiness and the conditions of your life. If they are unpleasant you have the power to change them. You don’t need the approval of others right now. It might seem selfish, but your happiness helps everyone around you. Your interests are just as important as anyone else’s.

Couples

Disappointed Egyptians b

eing a sentimental nation, we fall in love easily with fictional characters especially if they are a romantic couple. This month Amira Tharwat brought you 9 couples we absolutely loved and considered a relationship goal; however, they broke our hearts and didn’t turn out to be as we expected.

The most talked about couple these days 1 is from ‘Orydo Ragolan’ TV serial starring Eyad Nassar and Mariam Hassan; the whole combination of an upper Egyptian good looking guy falling in love with a modern girl is so tempting to fall for yet, the couple later on will suffer and he will decide to marry another lady to have a boy. Hanya and Ali are of course the most famous couple on the list; all through Ramadan everyone daydreamed about having such an adventurous life; the freedom, the music, and the unconditional love to the extent that almost everyone downloaded the music that the couple danced on as mobile ringtones like, ‘Sun is Up.’ However, later on Ali would sell Hania to a drug dealer for an extra doze of Heroin. Farida and Hatem from ‘Taht El Saytara’ are also on the list. The relationship seemed to have a passionate start at the beginning, and Hatem seemed to be an ideal man, who would forgive his lover and show her all the possible support in the world after knowing about her past (forget all that Zafer El Abdeen who played Hatem was too handsome to resist). Yet still things got complicated later when he divorced Farida and deprive her of her only baby girl. ‘365 Youm Saada,’ is considered as one of the most famous romantic movies, as the love story between the couple that passes the drastic social differences was more of a

fairy tale especially that the play boy Hadi played by Ahmed Ezz knew that the love of his life Nesma, played by Donia Samir Ghanem, won’t live for long suffering from a fatal diseases. So, he decided to marry her and spend that time with her. Again, it turned out that she fooled him to win his heart and make him marry her. Rashid and Ziena in ‘Aswar El Amar’ movie was a relationship everyone aspired to, from living in Hurghada, owning a Yacht to doing nothing all day long, but fall in love and attend parties on the beach. Drugs had the upper hand and was one of the reasons that ended the relationship and was the reason behind Ziena, played by non less than Mona Zaki, losing her eye sight in an accident done by Rashid who was drunk and stoned. The love story between Sherif, Tamer Hosni, and Rana, Ghada Adel, in the romantic hit ‘Ahwak’ was so touching especially after they went crazy together in Gouna; however, no sooner did this relationship witness complications because Sherif was a potential groom to Rana’s daughter Bassant.

One of the TV serials that were talked 7 about the most last Ramadan was ‘Tariki,’ Dalila played by Shereen fell in love with Yehia played by Basel El Khayat till she discovered he was so possessive and a psychopathic character, not to mention that he was the reason behind her brother’s death. In the mysterious TV serial ‘El Sabaa Wasaya,’ Em Em played by Hana Shiha and Arnos played by Waled Fawaz were a very interesting couple. Despite coming from a very local background and being a typical ‘Sha’by’ couple, their communication skills and love was irresistible to watch; however, their end was heartbreaking as Em Em had to kill Arnos to make her dead father’s will come true. Ironically, Arnos helped her by swallowing pills in order not to make Em Em feel guilty about killing him! The relationship between Shadya, Ayten Amer, and Adel, Mohamed Shahin, in the TV serial ‘Been El Sarayat’ was of a typical lovey-dovey Egyptian ‘Sha’by’ couple; however, the incidents got twisted in an unexpected way and Adel killed Shadya’s father, which made an end to their relationship.
