EDITOR’S LETTER

Welcome to a new era. I guess there’s no other way to call it. Since the 25 th January

We’ve gone through good days and we’ve definitely gone through bad days .Saying that gets me to think about our lives in general and how they are constantly being defined by new phases, new events and new eras on a personal level. we finish school and go to university , a change of era , we start our careers and live the time of being young , free and single , another era , we get married , the start of another era , we have children , a whole new era and so it goes on .. but what makes me wonder , is how much of all this do we really stop to appreciate even a Friday afternoon , spent having lunch with the family is an important moment , one that in years to come you’ll sit back and remember fondly . Watching your son take his very first steps or saying his first word is no doubt a defining moment in yours and his life. How much of all these moments do we really stop, contemplate and appreciate. Every day decisions are being made small and big ones. People make political decisions, personal decisions, Career decisions, etc. Some choices are simple and seem straight forward while others are complex and require a multi- step to make the decisions. Do not assume that you can’t do something give it a try first then decide. You are a decision maker. This is your moment and this is your life try to not make all of the events that happening around us make us feel depressed and letting go of many important moments in our life without feel it. I know that all of this events make us wonder about our future but we need to be pessimistic because we have no choice, We can still wonder and think about our future in Egypt and feel sad about what come may happened but we have to not lose our smile, hope, moments and only watch them pass by, without even stopping, without realizing that these too are important defining moments, that will change our lives, moving us from era to era and that’s not something to be missed. We have to live today for today and let tomorrow for tomorrow and only we can all do is hope, pray and work hard for a better future. And come what may this is a new era for the country and for us all. . Whatever era or phase of life you’re in, Realize that it won’t come again, Enjoy and appreciate it cause once it’s gone you can never have it back.

UNITED BUT DIVIDED

The escalation of political violence and the battle of wills in Egypt make us united in nationality but divided in front of president palace which taking the country into dangerous and uncharted position, Nermine tarek reports. The decision of the leaders of the Constituent Assembly urgency to vote on a flawed and contradictory draft is not the right way to ensure the fundamental rights or to promote respect for the rule of law. the failure to address the deep concerns about the protection of some basic rights, will lead to huge problems in the future that will not easily be solved. Where the process of drafting the constitution characterized with a sharp differences and the number of members of the Assembly resigned in protest against what they described as the failure of the dominant Islamic factions to reach a compromise on the core issues, including the subject of religion from state affairs. The decision comes after of the controversial constitutional announcement by President Mohamed Morsi, on 22 November which Fort his decisions from judicial review. “We will write the door of the judiciary ourselves and we will not overseeing the referendum If our demands are not applied,” the President’s of the Emergency Assembly in Egypt Judges Club Judge Ahmed Elzend said. “The draft shrinking our mandate” Judges protesters said. The President Moursi constitutional announcement led judges to strike in many courts circles across the country to protest against the Constitutional announcement of the President Mursi. The General Constituent deliver a new constitution to President Mohamed Morsi with big festival in the conference hall in Nasr City and the President issued a 4

Presidential decree inviting people for a referendum on a draft constitution on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in spite of all popular objections, Objections of judges in all grades on the legitimacy of the Assembly for the lack of representation of all classes of people in it and the Withdrawal of civil forces from it. Liberals, leftists, Christians, more moderate Muslims and others had withdrawn from the assembly saying their voices were not being heard. “There is no benefit of it” Civilian forces during its withdrawal from the Constituent said . From their point of view the Constitution was dye by religious dye. “The Islamic movement has sought to comply with the civil powers in constituent and made many concessions in order to complete the constitution,” a spokesman for the Constituent Assembly, the Secretary-Freedom and Justice Party in Cairo Dr. Mohamed El-Beltagy said. The withdrawal of the church and protest against it in the Supreme Constitutional Court which was besieged and prevent judges from considering the case which raising the division of the country. The civil forces and Tahrir revolutionaries called to crawl to the Federal Palace in Heliopolis, the civil disobedience and the continued escalation. On that opposition forces met led by the National Salvation Front (NSF) to protest against constitutional referendum and President Mohamed Morsi’s constitutional declaration. The revolutionary forces considered constitutional a coup against the democracy and the abduction of the judiciary. They demanded the abolition of the Constitutional declaration and the postponement of the referendum on the new constitution until a consensus on the controversial material which included many

concerns. The most important is include:Protection of rights Article 81 states that” There is no law organize the practice of rights and freedoms or restrict it’s prejudice and origin essence in the Constitution” but it goes on to say that “ these rights and freedoms exercised without conflicting with the principles contained in the section of the state and society of this Constitution.” the section include The text of Article 10 which states that “the state and society is keen to abide by the inherent nature of the Egyptian family,” and article 11, which states that “The State should care of ethics and morality and public system.” These articles characterized by loose language, open to interpretation and is available to justify the restriction of fundamental rights on a large scale. Apparently it puts “the inherent nature of the family”, morals and public system over fundamental rights. Freedom of expression Article 45 of freedom of expression without stating for allowed legitimate restrictions Nor on how to balance this right with Article 31 which states that “No case may insult anyone or contempt him” And article 44, which prohibits from the “abuse or exposure of all Messengers and Prophets”. The articles 31 and 44 Do not represent legitimate restrictions On freedom of expression under international human rights law and can offer to give difficult if not impossible for any serious reform of the Penal Code provisions based on criminalizing “insults” and defamation, these provisions are often used in the past to prosecute critics of the government. Increased litigation charges of “insulting the president” or “insulting the judiciary” since President Mursi took office. Freedom of belief Article 43 of freedom of belief restrict the right to practice religious rites and the establishment of houses of worship for Muslims, Christians and Jews. The previous provides drafts on the general right to practice religious rites but it restricted the establishment of places of worship on the followers of the three monotheistic religions. Article 43 discriminate against people of other faiths and exclude them, those followers including the Baha’i community. Under previous President Hosni Mubarak, the security forces arrested members of minorities religious such as Shiites and Ahmadis, Baha’is, and Quranists because of their beliefs. Military trials of civilians The final draft fails to put an end to military trials of civilians and retreat from the wording of the rights in the draft section. Article 75 was stated that “No civilians may be tried before the military justice system.” The members of this assembly deleted this paraphrase after a formal objection from the military justice officials. Article 198 of the final draft now that “there are no civilians trials infront of military courts except in the crimes that are harmful to the armed forces and the law defines such crimes which leaves the authority of the

military to trial civilians under martial law without prejudice. Women’s Rights Of the positive developments that the final draft of abandoned material that Article 68 that was in earlier drafts, which were provided on the subject of women’s right in equality to comply with the provisions of the Islamic Sharia and this text was strongly demanded by the Salafists members of the Assembly. However, the draft is no longer includes the “type” within the rationale for the prohibition of discrimination as it does not remember any justification. Article 30 now states that “citizens are equal before the law, they are equal in public rights and duties without discrimination between them” without specifying the categories covered by this text. When you read this article with Article 10, the failure in specific reference to discrimination on the basis of gender may become problematic. Article 10 states that: “The State must guarantee motherhood and child services free of charge reconciling the duties of women towards her family and her work.” And the State must care and give special care and protection to house wives and divorced and widowed women. “The current draft constitution is unfair to women’s rights and gains” the previous deputy in the dissolved parliment Margaret Lazarus said. The role of the state should be limited to ensure equality and non-discrimination without interference in women’s choices about her life or her family or work, nor to justify discrimination on this basis. Moreover this has been deleted wording that prohibits trading in women in an earlier draft from the final draft. Development of international commitments Article 145 states that the President ratifies treaties and ratifies after the approval of the parliment and the Shura Council then: “There is no approval of any treaty contrary to the provisions of the Constitution.” The Human Rights Watch has called on the members of the Constituent Assembly to insert text integrates human rights as defined by international treaties ratified by Egypt, integrates them directly in the Egyptian law and to strengthen the basis for the amendment of a lot of local laws restricting the rights. Indeed hundreds of thousands of rejecting the constitutional declaration crawled to the Federal Palace to express their rejection of the Constitutional Declaration, the draft constitution to a referendum without a social consensus and immunization of the President’s decisions against challenged in the court. “The people want to bring down the regime,” the protesters chanted in Tahrir Square said, they were echoing the chants that rang out in the same place less than two years ago and brought

down Hosni Mubarak. The protests also come in the wake of an anticipated decision by the government to increase prices by imposing higher taxes on several goods. The protesters insist on maintaining pressure on Saturday’s controversial constitutional referendum, which they want to be postponed until the constitution contents can be reached on national consensus. They described it as unrepresentative and drafted as it was by an Islamist-led Constituent Assembly. The large brick barriers erected by the military around the palace did not stop the protesters from crossing through openings. They managed to make. They chanted “Down with the Muslim Brotherhood”, “Down with the rule of the supreme guide” and “Two cannot be trusted; the army and the Brotherhood”. Egyptians from all social classes were presented at the demonstration and some well-known revolutionary slogans were heard including “Bread, freedom, social justice”, to the more extreme “The people want to bring down the regime”. The NSF is an umbrella group comprising major liberal, leftist parties and other independent groups. It is led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mohamed AlBaradei, Egypt’s previous foreign minister and ex-Arab League chief Amr Moussa and leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi. The NSF announced its rejection of the referendum and called for continued mass protests. While the opposition protested at the presidential palace, the Muslim Brotherhood and Morsi supporters gathered in Cairo’s Nasr City district some three miles away from the rival rally to voice support for the looming referendum draft constitution and to call for a “yes” vote in elections. WhileThe NSF called on the masses to vote “no” on the constitution instead of boycotting the elections. Rival mass rallies have become an almost daily occurrence in Cairo and the clashes between Islamists and the secular-leaning opposition on 5 December killed eight people and injured more than 750. the Republican Guard and the police calls to intervene but lately to disengage between them and build a concrete fence to protect the presidential palace of the Intruder to find ourselves in front of other signed sentences including ambiguity and claim of the presence of a third party and the loss of Egyptian blood. the NSF had announced it was going to attend the so-called “unity talks” called for by the army to help in ending the political crisis that only before the last meeting that has been postponed without providing more information. The army’s call was seen by some observers as an attempt by the military to seek a renewed political role. The military managed the country for 18 months from the time of the ouster of previous president Hosni Mubarak to the time Morsi became

president. They relinquished power after Morsi forced the military’s top two generals into retirement. It had been reported that the NSF would attend the army’s unity talks represented mainly by Al-Baradei, Sabahi, Moussa and another NSF member Mohamed Abul-Ghar. It is considered signaling to stop the refrendum until the settlement of all continues issues. Defence Minister Abdel-Fatah Al-Sisi, who is also the head of the Armed Forces, had said the talks were not intended to be political in nature. “We would sit together as Egyptians,” he said. Al-Baradei said in the Egyptian opposition the whole constitution-drafting process is considered “illegitimate”. “We are hoping that Mr Morsi will rescind his decision and he would really come to his senses,” Al-Baradei said. “You can not adopt a constitution which at least 50 per cent of the Egyptian people oppose that defies its basic rights and freedoms and tries to have a new dictator in the making.” He said. “We are at a cross in the road,” he said. “Either we will have a country that is civil which respects women’s rights, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, children’s rights and a balance of power or we will have a new dictatorship with a religious flavour.” He said. The opinion ended to cancel the constitutional declaration issued on Nov. 21, while maintaining the effects that resulted in and maintain the deadline referendum in December 15, 2012 as it is but if people reject the new constitution the president after three months, Wen announced the result by calling for the election of 100 members to establish new Constituent to draw up a new constitution in a period not to exceed 6 monthes. After that the President during this month from the date of receipt of the draft inviting voters to a referendum. In the case of emergence of a new signs on crimes related revolution on January 25 that returned investigations even if they are issued by acquittals. As the text of the constitutional declaration stated to not accept any appeals on constitutional declaration and the expiration of the case against it. The popular rejection of the Constitutional declaration issued by the President of the still continues on the bases of illegitimacy to the expiration of the issued after the revolution to hold free presidential elections that did not allow the President to issue any constitutional declaration from the begining. The civil forces reject the new constitutional declaration and some lawyers have filed a law suit to drop it. To continue the situation and the country located in aftershocks incompatibility and rocking the Egyptian economy. Waiting for another signed sentences or new federal or a new civil war or a peaceful solution satisfactory to both parties and the offer still continuous. 5

AMERICANS GIVE OBAMA A SECOND CHANCE His victory makes Mr. Obama the first president since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940 to succeed with a higher unemployment rate on Election Day than on his inauguration day four years earlier. U.S. unemployment now stands at 7.9%, compared with 7.8% when Mr. Obama took office.

President Barack Obama returned to the White House after winning the historic second term, Nermine Tarek reports. “The best is coming,” Obama said to the United States in his victory speech after winning a second term. “I did not love you more than this day,” Obama said to his wife Michellea when He was thanked his family, his campaign team and Vice President Joe Biden, who he described as the best vice president in U.S. history. The American voters renewed their confidence of Obama who was the first black president up to the White House in 2008 and the second Democratic president wins re-election for the second time since the Second World War. U.S. President Barack Obama Keep his position as President of the United States of America for a new term after defeating his rival Republican Mitt Romney in the presidential election in the United States, According to the final results, Obama made on Romney ahead 303 votes for 206 Romney in the electoral college. President Barack Obama narrowly won re6

election, overcoming public doubts about his performance on the economy—doubts that challenger Mitt Romney appeared well-positioned to exploit. “I so wish that I had been able to fulfill your hopes to lead the country in a different direction, but the nation chose another leader,” Mr. Romney said in his concession speech. The voting results revealed that Obama won the votes of the states of Ohio, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, Illinois, New York, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Washington state and California and the Hawaiian Islands. While on the other hand, Romney won the votes of the states of Kentucky, West Virginia and Indiana, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Utah and Arizona, Nebraska and Idaho.

Mr. Obama also was aided by a wellexecuted turnout effort, one that was all the more successful because of demographic shifts that are placing more electoral power in the hands of minority voters, who tended to support Mr. Obama by large margins. Propelling Mr. Obama to victory was the unique coalition he forged four years ago, one that reflects the changing nature of the U.S. electorate—notably, the diminished influence of white Americans and the rising clout of Latino voters. The American election system is not restricted only on the voting to choose the president, but also members of the U.S. Congress and renewal thirds of the U.S. Senate, Congress members of each state, The selection judges of each state and the laws enacted them. Americans outside America have voted two months ago, Each according to its mandate, They sent the ballots mailed to the United States. The American people did two things: they gave President Obama a second chance to fix the problems that even he admits he failed to solve during his first four years in office, and they preserved Republican control of the House of Representatives. Republicans are expecting the next four years to be different from the past four years. “To the extent he wants to move to the political center…we’ll be there to meet him half way. That begins by proposing a way for both parties to work together in avoiding the ‘fiscal cliff’ without harming a weak and fragile economy and when that is behind us work with us to reform the tax code and our broken entitlement system,” Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said. Greeting Mr. Obama will be a divided Congress. Democrats retained their Senate majority,While Republicans looked set to keep control of the House of Representatives. For Mr. Obama, the victory sets up a test of whether he can forge a productive second term in a divided political system. Mr. Obama will have little time to savor his victory. Looming almost immediately is the so-called fiscal cliff, a series of tax increase and spending cuts that come into force Jan. 1 and that could unravel

the economy’s fragile gains unless the president and congressional leaders engineer a compromise. The U.S. will also hit its borrowing limit in coming months, raising the prospect of a battle like the one last year that led to a downgrade of the U.S. debt rating. Mr. Obama hopes to broker a farreaching agreement, the kind of “grand bargain” that eluded him last year, which would include raising taxes on wealthier Americans. Republicans have said they would oppose any tax increase. The White House is already working to convene a meeting between the president and congressional leaders. A key player will be Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, Mr. Romney’s running mate and a student of fiscal matters, who retained his House seat. Mr. Obama notched a victory in a political climate that seemed ripe for his defeat. Polls showed more than half the population believed the U.S. was on the wrong track and that the government performed too many functions best done by the private sector—attitudes that would seem to benefit Republicans. After winning a second term, President Barack Obama ends his victory speech with his vision for the country during his speech. “Now I look forward to sitting down with Gov. Romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward.” Mr. Obama said In his victory speech. “We may have battled fiercely, but it’s only because we love this country deeply and we care so strongly about its future,” Mr. Obama said in his victory speech. He also said that he would meet with Mr. Romney in the coming weeks to discuss various issues confronting the country. The president’s re-election campaign was light on details of his second-term agenda, Which He promised on the campaign trail the following:Taxes What was a contentious issue during the campaign will likely remain so. Obama said that higher taxes on the rich will not stifle economic growth and that both tax hikes and spending cuts are needed to achieve long-term deficit reduction. Whether he can get Republicans to agree to any tax hikes may be his greatest domestic challenge. Obama also has said he would like to raise taxes on the wealthy and ensure they pay 30 percent of their income, which he says would help reduce the budget deficit. Obama said he supports extending Bush-era tax cuts for everyone making under $200,000, or $250,000 for couples. He had agreed in 2010 to a two-year extension of the lower rates for all taxpayers. But that extension ends on Dec. 31 and Obama has said he would let the top two tax rates go back up 3 to 4 percentage points to 39.6 percent and 36 percent— and raise rates on capital gains and dividends for the wealthy. Other taxes going up under Obama

would be to help cover Medicare costs from the Affordable Health Care Law—with a tax on highest-value health insurance plans. Obama has said he would replace the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) with the “Buffett Rule,” named after billionaire investor Warren Buffett. The AMT was originally designed to keep top wage earners from taking too many deductions, but it currently captures many middle-class families. The Buffett rule holds that millionaires shouldn’t have a lower effective tax rate than anyone else—and that they should pay at least 30 percent of their income in federal taxes. Obama would continue a 15 percent tax rate on dividends and capital gains for families making less than $250,000 a year. When it comes to business, Obama would reduce the top corporate rate to 28 percent from 35 percent. Obama has also called for new tax codes to encourage investment at home and discourage the offshoring of jobs and factories. As for the estate tax, Obama said he would reinstate the 2009-level rate of 45 percent after a $3.5 million exemption on assets passed to heirs. Economy & Jobs The current unemployment rate sits at around 7.9 percent. So, to get the economy moving and to create jobs. Obama said on the campaign trail that he wanted Congress to pass his $447 million,He initially proposed in 2011. It was defeated in the Senate. The key elements of the package reprise parts of Obama’s 2009 stimulus measure and a Social Security payroll tax cut enacted in 2010. The plan combines payroll tax cuts for workers and businesses with $175 billion in spending on roads, school repairs and other infrastructure, as well as unemployment assistance and help to local governments to avoid layoffs of teachers, firefighters and police. The jobs measure would be paid for by a 5.6 percent surcharge on income exceeding $1 million, expected to raise more than $450 billion over a decade, according to the Obama campaign. Obama has also proposed tax breaks for U.S. manufacturers producing domestically or repatriating jobs from abroad, and tax penalties for U.S. companies outsourcing jobs. Federal Deficit For the fourth-straight year the U.S. is projected to have trillion-dollar deficits. Obama has called for tackling the debt with a mix of spending cuts and revenue increases. Central to Obama’s plan is to let Bush-era tax cuts expire for couples making more than $250,000. Immigration During the campaign Obama admitted failure on getting promised immigration legislation through Congress that included a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. But he says he will try again. As part of immigration reform, Obama

had vowed to get Congress to pass the Dream Act which would give young illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children a path to citizenship if they attend college or serve in the military. The bill was blocked by the Senate in 2010. But in June, Obama issued an executive order to allow many immigrants brought illegally to the United States as children to be exempted for two years from deportation and granted work permits if they apply to the government. Energy As for what he would do in a second term, Obama has called on Congress to end $4 billion in oil tax breaks for firms like BP, Chevron ,ExxonMobil, and ConocoPhillips . Instead that money would be used to invest that money in clean energy. Obama also pledged to cut subsidies for oil, coal, and natural gas. During the campaign Obama said he supported extension of the production tax credit for wind generated electricity. He has also touted nuclear power as a clean source of energy. Obama said that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission should increase its oversight of Wall Street, in the belief that trading speculators drive up oil prices. Obama called for an increase in penalties for such illegal activity. As for the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline that the White House put a temporary hold on in 2012, Obama has said he would make a final decision on the project after an environmental study on a new route through Nebraska would be finished sometime in 2013. Health Care Since he won re-election and the Democrats control the Senate for at least the next two years, GOP threats to dismantle Obama care would seem to have taken a back seat for now. The bill goes into full effect in 2014, with some provisions for tax increases on incomes more than $200,000 to pay for certain Medicare costs. Social Security The president did not propose a comprehensive plan to address Social Security’s potential financial problems. In 2011, he proposed a new measure of inflation that would reduce annual increases in Social Security benefits. The proposal would reduce the long-term financing shortfall by about 25 percent, according to the Social Security actuaries. Education Obama said often on the campaign trail that he opposed vouchers and using any public tax money to pay tuition at private schools. Obama also said he wanted to preserve a key federal student loan interest rate at 3.4 percent. The rate had been scheduled to double, an increase the president said would hurt students and parents. Congress voted in June to avert a higher rate. Mr. Obama also wants to tighten federal oversight of for-profit colleges. He has said that too many students graduate from 7

these types of schools in too much debt. About the movement appointments in the new presidential period, The State Department announced that Hillary Clinton will leave their tasks and received her purse ministerial successors, who will be Chosen by Mr. Obama amid speculation that its successors former candidate for the presidential elections in 2004, John Kerry, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee in Congress or U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice. “Bdiaut Ahronot” newspaper views that Netanyahu who supports Romney feared that Obama’s victory might lead the U.S. president to avenge him and newspaper pointed out that those around Obama accuse Netanyahu of interfering blatantly in united States elections and that this matter has emerged during the third debate and last between Romney and Obama, when Obama is addressing Romney’s recent visit to Israel was to raise funds at a time vowed Romney that Israel would be the first stop after his victory in the elections. while Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon indifference Israel the results of the U.S. elections. “Israel will continue to enjoy American elections bipartisan and the best president for Israel is the one who is selected by the U.S. public” Ayalon said. Most Egyptians expressed during interviews conducted by the American “CNN” network their preference for President Barack Obama. “I prefer Obama as a President of the United States because of pursuing a moderate foreign policy “ Egyptian lady Mona Ahmed said. “I prefer Obama for his sympathy with the issues of the region, which reference to his origins.” young Egyptians Reda Shalaby said. “I am scared if Romney wins the presidency he pursues policies similar to those pursued by President George W. Bush” Egyptian woman Sahar said. While a large majority of voters said they were dissatisfied with the economy, relatively few blamed Mr. Obama, pointing their fingers instead at Wall Street and the administration of former President George W. Bush. A narrow majority of voters said they believed the country was making progress economically, and those voters tended to side with Mr. Obama and although Mr. Romney closed the gap in the polls, raising the possibility that the nation’s first African-American president might be voted from office at the end of a single term and Mr. Obama was favored to win for most of the campaign, but the race narrowed in the final month after he turned in a lackluster performance in the first of three presidential debates. Democrats succeeded in turning the presidential election into a tactical fight largely defined by negative attacks. Which raises uncomfortable questions for Republicans and they started asking themselves: What went wrong?, How Obama won? And How everything turned upside down? Some top Republicans agreed they need

to rethink how they present their economic message. Mr. Obama’s rise to power might have been dismissed as a fluke had he not secured a second term. His biography is nothing like that of recent predecessors. Mr. Obama was raised by a single mother and his grandparents. His father was from Kenya and his mother’s family from Kansas. Mr. Obama spent most of his childhood in Hawaii, where he attended a prestigious private school. After graduating from Columbia University, he attended Harvard Law School, becoming the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review. He eventually moved to Chicago, where he became a community organizer and met his wife, first lady Michelle Obama. His political resumé is short. He served in the Illinois state Senate until 2004, when he captivated the nation with a keynote address at the Democratic National Convention. He was elected to the U.S. Senate that same year and hadn’t served a full term before he won the White House in 2008. His first term included passage of the health-care law, the financial-regulation bill and a series of interventions to save the banking system from the worst downturn since the Great Depression. After the midterm elections in 2010, Republicans took charge of the House and Mr. Obama was forced to curb his ambitions. The president has predicted that he would have better results in a second term. David Plouffe, a senior White House adviser, said any ill will from the election would quickly vanish. Mr. Obama has said he would push several pieces of unfinished business left over the first term. He wants to pass an immigration overhaul that would provide a path to legal status for the 11 million people living in the U.S. illegally. With Hurricane Sandy ravaging the East Coast, Mr. Obama had a chance to show compassion to storm victims and deploy government resources to neighborhoods left in ruins. No less a critic than New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican who gave the keynote speech at Mr. Romney’s nominating convention, went out of his way to praise Mr. Obama’s performance. About two-thirds of the public approved of the president’s handling of Hurricane Sandy, a Wall Street JournalNBC News poll showed. Sandy diverted the nation’s attention for days, forcing Mr. Romney to cancel some events and to juggle attacks on Obama with expressions of sympathy for storm victims. Still, Mr. Obama’s re-election would have seemed unlikely in the nadir of his presidency, the fall of 2010, when voters in the midterm election gave Republicans control of the House. Mr. Obama termed that election, “a shellacking.” White House advisers turned their attention to his political revival, knowing he was in a tough spot. Unemployment hovered near 10%, and

aides worried that independent voters had abandoned the president. Internal focus groups showed that voters didn’t give credit to Mr. Obama for the stimulus program, even though many economists concluded that the measures staved off an even more serious downturn. Aides settled on a strategy that emphasized steady improvement in the jobless rate while positioning Mr. Obama as a champion of the middle class. Rather than save their money for the post-Labor Day race to November, the Obama campaign spent millions of dollars on TV ads attacking Mr. Romney for his record at Bain Capital. They painted him as a predatory capitalist who bought companies and laid people off in search of a quick profit. Mr. Obama found multiple ways to chip away at the public’s confidence in Mr. Romney, as well as his conservative policy prescriptions. That multifront effort succeeded in raising enough doubt about Mr. Romney and sufficiently reinforcing Mr. Obama’s own message to allow the president to gain re-election. Despite Mr. Romney’s focus on the economy, pitching himself as a onetime businessman capable of fixing what ails the U.S., he couldn’t overcome missteps and attacks from Democrats over his work as a private-equity executive. “while Mr. Romney appeared to score well with voters in a number of categories, including his leadership and vision, Mr. Obama by the end held a lopsided advantage on the question of which candidate cares about people like them. Democrats succeeded in defining Mr. Romney as “a rich guy who didn’t care about them,” GOP strategist Karl Rove said. “Only 38% of voters say that if Mitt Romney is elected president his economic policies will be good for people like them. By comparison, 44% say President Obama’s policies will be good for people like them.” Democratic pollster Geoff Garin said. The Obama campaign also succeeded in undermining voter perceptions of Mr. Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital, the private-equity firm he founded. “In the final round of swing state polling… voters agreed by 17 points that ‘as a businessman, (Romney’s) priority was making millions for himself and his investors, regardless of the impact on jobs and the employees,” Garin said. In the end, Mr. Obama suffered no shortage of funds. In September alone, he took in $181 million in campaign donations. Altogether, the president and allied groups will have raised nearly $1 billion over the course of the campaign. It’s obviously that Mr. Obama burned through a good chunk of his campaign cash, making some Democrats uneasy But he made Mr. Romney unpopular among some voters and finally 2012 United States Presidential Election concluded with President Barack Obama securing a second term in office.

DREAM’S NIGHTMARE The satellite channel has been suspended for allegedly violating the law. Reem Leila sees whether the decision involves any hidden political agenda

On Thursday afternoon viewers of the TV satellite channels Dream One and Dream Two could see nothing except a black screen with a disclaimer which read, “The channel declares its inability to broadcast any of its programmes due to a decree passed by Hisham Kandil’s Cabinet banning the broadcast despite the broadcast’s legality.” Talking to the media, Minister of Information Salah Abdel-Maksoud said that the two Dream channels broke Law 13/1979 which stipulates that all private channels are to broadcast their transmission from just one location in order to be under the control of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU). The ERTU council met on 8 November, and sent a letter to the administration of the two satellite channels, asking them to adjust their status in conformity with the law. “One week grace period was granted to them,” said Abdel-Maksoud. “We are just applying the law which no one should be exempted from.” According to the minister, “it’s their fault. They had a whole week before we told Telecom Egypt (NileSat) to cut the transmission of Dream satellite channels.” Since 2001, Dream has been transmitting from its own studios located at Dream Land, a compound in 6 October city. However, the only legal transmission site is the state-owned Media Production City (MPC). The owner of Dream Land and Dream channels, tycoon businessman Ahmed Bahgat, had taken legal permission from former minister of information Mamdouh Al-Beltagui to transmit from another location. Manager of Dream Channels Mohamed Khodeir said, “our studios are bigger than those of MPC. We use MPC studios in broadcasting our sports shows. Such programmes do not require large studios, unlike the other talk shows.” At the same time Khodeir denied the minister’s allegations that their broadcasting is illegal. “Six years ago, we agreed with the Ministry of Information and ERTU to transmit from Dream Land studios. We have official and legal

permission. We are also paying the required fees for the transmission to ERTU,” Khodeir said. Legal documents, approvals and permissions proving the channels’ legal right to broadcast from Dream Land studios were shown live on a 14 November broadcast. Abdel-Maksoud, though, claimed Dream’s status is illegal despite the permission they received. He said the channels should pay ERTU LE15 million in fees for renting the studios every year. “Now they are paying peanuts for the transmission. This is unfair to other channels. When other private satellite channels like CBC and Al-Hayat have to pay this amount, Dream channels should also,” said Abdel-Maksoud. However, Khairi Ramadan, a TV announcer at CBC, rejected the allegations. “Private satellite channels pay only LE1.5 million per year to ERTU as rent charge for their studios.” At the same time, Ramadan condemned the decision, saying that “a one week grace period to adjust their legal situation is not enough. They need at least three months. Investments estimated by millions in Dream studios will be wasted. Hundreds of workers will be jobless. So, they need at least few months to adjust their situation.” The disclaimer also stated that the ban confirms the onslaught on freedom, especially on the media. TV announcer and opposition writer Wael Al-Ibrashi insisted that the decision is mainly political. “When viewers see a dark screen of all Dream channels or any other channel, this means that freedom of expression as well as the media have died,” Al-Ibrashi said. During Hosni Mubarak’s time, Dream was among the private channels to encourage public protests and was the first channel to host the Muslim Brother supreme guide at a time when Mubarak kept the Brotherhood in check. “Bahgat was on the verge of being imprisoned for the interview but because there was a reasonable margin of freedom, he was not. Now Dream is being punished for its political stances,” said Al-Ibrashi. On 17 November, Bahgat held a press conference to provide more details regarding the ban. He said he will not give up his right to transmit from his own studios. “It seems that the channel and some of its anchors [referring indirectly to Dream anchor Gihan Mansour] have upset the ruling regime,” said Bahgat.

Mansour sued Essam Al-Erian, a leading member of the Freedom and Justice Party, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, on charges of accusing Mansour on air of receiving bribes from unknown entities to attack the Muslim Brotherhood. A court of misdemeanours has set 24 November for a hearing. Al-Erian has filed his own lawsuit against Mansour, accusing her of calling him a “fascist politician” during a phone-in on her TV show. Mansour, too, was referred to court. Abdel-Maksoud denied the existence of any political reasons behind the suspension of Dream. He said the decision did not ban the channels’ broadcast. “If the channels were banned from broadcasting they wouldn’t be able to display the disclaimer which they are putting on their screens. Only cables connecting the channels’ studios in Dream Land to the NileSat have been disconnected. When they re-adjust their situation, the cables will be reconnected,” said Abdel-Maksoud. Many political forces hurried to condemn the decision. In a joint statement issued by the Dostour Party and the Free Egyptians Party members expressed their profound respect of the law. “However, the sudden ban of Dream channels at this time and without providing owners with an appropriate grace period to adjust their conditions reflects severe arbitrariness and misuse of power… it is an ambush of the channel by the authorities,” the statement said. Members called upon both the information minister and prime minister to prove their good intentions by withdrawing the decision and giving the channel as well as other channels enough time to adjust their status. The private Al-Tahrir satellite channel warned of the illegality of the transmission ban and of “double standards” in dealing with private channels. Channels such as Al-Jazeera transmits from outside MPC, however, it did not receive any warning, according to the Al-Tahrir satellite channel which does not transmit through MPC. Abdel-Maksoud said in a TV show that the status of all channels “will be thoroughly examined individually. Those who will be found violating the law will be warned and then banned if they refuse to abide by the law. Transmitting outside MPC allows channels to escape rental fees which are necessary for studios to broadcast their programmes.” 11

FILLING THE TEN LOVE TANKS The problem is that we neglect to build the most important relationship, The one with the self. Self-worth is the fuel that can push us forward and make us successful in our daily lives. Only when you know yourself, You will be ready to contribute in major life commitments like relationships, work and activities. that person depends on you.

LOVE TANK TWO: VITAMIN P1

Love tank seven is giving unconditional love to someone who is depending on you. Being responsible for the needs of others is an essential requirement of the soul . We cannot continue to develop after age thirty-five if we don’t create opportunities to give unconditionally. To fill up this seventh love tank , we need to take care of children and then later grandkids. If we don’t have our own grandchildren, then we should offer our services to others. We must feel responsible to someone else whom we care for and love. With this special love, we can begin making sacrifices, giving up what we want for another. This unconditional love and support is the appropriate relationship between parent and child.

The first love tank is love and support from God . When we are missing vitamin GI , life tends to be a struggle . We eventually become tired and stressed , because we thing we have to do it all ourselves , To fill this fist tank , we need to have regular contract with God or a spiritual relationship in some way with the universe. We need to understand that we are not alone and that there is a higher power assisting us . The second love tank is love and support from parents .When we are missing vitamin P1 , we tend to be held back in life by feeling of doubt , inadequacy , and unworthiness. We experience waves of emotional disturbance and distress in our lives. Fortunately, as adults , now we don’t have to depend on our parents or primary caretakers to get the unconditional love we need . Some parents will never be able to give us what we need , and some have died. As adults, we can pick and choose where to get this support , and we can learn to give it to ourselves.

LOVE TANK SEVEN: VITAMIN D

LOVE TANK EIGHT: VITAMIN C

The third love tank is love and support from family, friends, and fun . When your life is too serious and you are not having fun, you are deficient in vitamin F. This third tank if filled by developing and enjoying friendships and having a good time.

Love tank eight is giving back to your community , assisting in making your local world a better and more beautiful place. This is the ideal time to begin doing volunteer work to help others not directly related to you . Any kind of project to help the poor , the schools , the library , or the environment , to name a few , helps you as well. In this stage of life, we need to be thinking about helping others . The gits we have received in life are the gifts we have to share with our community. To fill this tank. start looking for ways to give back some of what you have received.

You might volunteer to help a candidate get elected or run for office yourself. To fill this love tank , you may get involved in some kind of world cause .

DISCHARGE YOUR STRESS HOW

The first step is learning to DISCHARGE is interactive meditation. Just as you have the ability to draw in energy through your fingertips in mediation, you have the ability to send it out. Once you have learned to meditate , it is incredibly easy to DISCHARGE. The second step is sending out the negative energy where it will do no harm . Negative energy is automatically absorbed and transformed by nature . This is why if you are stressed you automatically become more relaxed by going for a walk in a forest or garden . This is why some people enjoy the beach or lying in the sun . The elements of nature absorb our negativity and send out positive energy. By directing or discharging our negative energy into nature it is automatically transformed into positive energy once again. Discharging is an incredible experience.

You will feel a flow of energy out of your fingers . For many , it feels as if you were standing in a shower and the water is running down over your fingers and fingertips . You may feel tingling energy throughout your hands as the negative energy leaves your body and goes into nature . WHERE Nature absorbs our negativity Plants flowers , bushes , and trees are usually the best objects in which to DISCHARGE . For most people flowers are the most powerful. Women particularly appreciate flowers, because women tend to be more sensitive than men. Water absorbs negativity Another place to DISCHARGE is into a sink filled with water , a bathtub , hot tub, pool , pond , river , lake , or ocean . The bigger the body of water , the more powerful the

Throughout the course of our lives, We all experience episodes of stress, unhappiness or sadness. Often, People suffer because a loved one dies or from a personal tragedy or difficulty such as divorce or loss of a job, inexperienced mom who has a new baby, Most of us can cope with these and other types of stressful events. The stress is a big factor for not having the answers all the time and not getting enough sleep are also a major ones as well. Your body has to rest by discharging your stress, Nermine tarek writes. DISCHARGE.

FIRE

Fire is another powerful aspect of nature we can use to DISCHARGE. Think back to the wonderful times you may have spent telling scary stories around a campfire. Walking barefoot the earth, the grass, or the beach is also a powerful way to DISCHARGE. As you walk continue to say your meditation phrase and direct your fingers down to the earth. this can also be done while walking in a forest. It is fun to aim your fingers toward the trees and send out your negative energy like little ray guns and receive nature’s blessing. The most efficient and powerful way to DISCHARGE is to do it with your eyes closed and holding a fresh leaf or flower. The other ways work and should be enjoyed, but holding leaves and flowers works in the shortest amount of time. 29

LETTING GO OF JUDGMENT

You become judgmental when you disconnect from your ability to see the good in others and circumstances . Finding fault with others and situations is an important skill to make positive changes , but it is of little assistance if it prevents you from recognizing the good in a situation. When you are stuck in being judgmental , you feel annoyed and irritated by situations that you cannot change and overlook and miss the positive . Every cloud has a silver lining, but you are unable to find it.

LETTING GO OF SELF-PITY

You become resentful when you disconnect from your ability to give your love and support . In most cases , you feel you have given more and not received what you deserve in return . You withhold your love because something happened that is not fair .

You experience self-pity when you have disconnected from your innate ability to appreciate and give thanks for the blessings and successes in your life . When you focus on what you are missing , you lose touch with your ability to appreciate what you have and do not recognize the many opportunities available to you .

REMOVING THE TWELVE BLOCKS

never be perfect , you get stuck in the desire to be perfect. When things have to be perfect , you cannot rest and enjoy what you have or who you are.

You become confused when you have disconnected from your innate ability to see clearly, understand , or make sense of what life presents you. Every positive or negative experience has the potential to teach you something useful that you didn’t know before and to reinforce and strengthen the positive qualities within.

LETTING GO OF YOUR BLOCKS Overcoming the twelve blocks to personal success will not only allow you to enjoy your outer success, but will also help you to connect to your true self . When you learn to experience inner peace, love , joy, and power , you will most effectively be able to attract and create what you want in your life . Without giving up who you are and by doing what you love , you will be able to get what you really want

When we are not getting what we need, or we are not in touch with our true desires, we become stuck, unable to feel the positive feelings of our true selves. We become blocked from being able to connect with our true selves. At such times, we must first recognize our block and then use it to point the way toward getting what we need by using a variety of tools and processes to let go . It is not enough to feel what we feel and explore what we want. When we are experiencing one of the twelve blocks to personal success, no matter how such we feel them, they do not go away. Feeling our blocks only makes them stronger. So you have to remove them to destroy them, Nermine Tarek writes. LETTING GO OF BLAME

When you blame others for your lack of happiness, you give up your ability to heal your self from sickness and unhappiness Blame prevents you from taking responsibility for your life and affirms that you are powerless.

LETTING GO OF DEPRESSION

You become depressed when you have disconnected from your innate ability to recognize , appreciate , and enjoy the many blessings in your life. To overcome depression, we need to look in another direction to get what we need or 30

LETTING GO OF ANXIETY

You experience anxiety when you have disconnected with your innate ability to trust that everything will work out and always does. When we have not healed

certain events in our past, we experience anxiety in the present. Anxiety is almost always directly related to pain in our past that is still unresolved.

LETTING GO OF INDIFFERENCE

When you become indifferent , you are no longer able to feel your soul’s desire . You have disconnected with your innate ability to know what is possible and what you want. You stop trusting that you can get what you want or you stop caring about what you really want . When trusting and caring are blocked , you will continue to

BRIDAL TATTOOS There are many sorts of tattoos. There are small ones that are easily hidden, large ones proudly displayed, and medium sized tats in awkward-to-conceal spots. One thing that all tattooed brides have in common is that they either need to find a wedding dress that shows off their ink or hides it. These types will help you to figure out what to do about your tattoos on your wedding day, Nermine Tarek presents.

1. Lovely Morning Say to your love when you awake in the morning: “What can I do for you today that will make your life easier and less stressful?” Then do it. 2. Strawberry and Chocolate Surprise Buy some strawberries and a few bars of your spouse’s favorite chocolate on the way home from work to surprise them after dinner with chocolate-dipped strawberries! Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or by boiling water in a large pot and setting a bowl (with chocolate) inside to keep the chocolate from burning. Coat the strawberries and let cool, or just take the bowl of melted chocolate to the couch and feed them to each other freshly-dipped. 3. Origami Love Express your feelings in a unique way by writing your spouse a love letter on an origami flower. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPRICORN Ruling planet: Saturn Favorite color : BROWN STAR STONE : Onyx

criticism of self, they respect discipline from above and demand it from those beneath them. In their methodical, tough, stubborn, unyielding way, they persist against personal hardship, putting their families and/or their work before their own needs and welfare to reach their objectives long after others have given up and fallen by the wayside. In fact when practical ability allied with the drive of ambition are required in employees to make a project succeed, Capricorn are the people to hire. They plan carefully to fulfill their ambitions (which often include becoming wealthy), they are economical without meanness, and able to achieve great results with minimum effort and expense. Because of their organizing ability they are able to work on several projects simultaneously. They have a great respect for authority but may not, if they reach high rank, be willing to listen to other opinions on things they are directly responsible for. As the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self disciplined as they themselves are, and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. They are, nevertheless, fair as well as demanding. Among their equals they are not always the most pleasant of work fellows for they are reserved and too conservative, valuing tradition more than innovation, however valuable the latter, and they are often humorless. There is also a tendency to pessimism, melancholy and even unhappiness which many Capricorn are unable to keep to themselves, especially if they fail personally. In the extreme this trait can make them a very depressed individual; ecstatic happiness alternating with the most wretched kind of

ABOUT CAPRICORN SIGN The sign Capricorn is one of the most stable and (mostly) serious of the zodiacal types. These independent, rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong willed and calm. These hardworking, unemotional, shrewd, practical, responsible, persevering, and cautious to the extreme persons, are capable of persisting for as long as is necessary to accomplish a goal they have set for themselves. Capricorn are reliable workers in almost any profession they undertake. They are the major finishers of most projects started by the ‘pioneering’ signs; with firm stick-to-it-ness they quickly become the backbone of any company they work for. Capricorn make of themselves, resourceful, determined managers; setting high standards for themselves and others. They strive always for honesty in their

misery which is so subconsciously buried that he or she should seek help if such emotions become frequent. For the above reason, capable Capricorn should spend many hours in meditation, gathering the strength to control such inner emotions. The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricorns deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy. In certain individuals in whom the characteristic is strong, the temptation to do this has to be resisted with iron self-control. Another unexpected quality in some Capricorn is an interest in the occult which persists in spite of their naturally skeptical turn of mind. Their intellects are sometimes very subtle. They think profoundly and deeply, throughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a ‘safe’ alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They

are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic. In their personal relationships they are often ill-at-ease, if not downright unhappy. They are somewhat self-centered but not excessively so, wary and cautious around people they do not know very well, preferring not to meddle with others and in turn not to allow interference with themselves, thus they tend to attract people who do not understand them. Casual acquaintances they will treat with diplomacy, tact and, above all, reticence. They make few good friends but are intensely loyal to those they do make, and they can become bitter, and powerful enemies. They sometimes dislike the opposite sex and test the waters of affection gingerly before judging the temperature right for marriage. Once married, however, they are faithful, though inclined to jealousy. Most Capricorns marry for life. Their occupations can include most professions that have to do with math or money and they are strongly attracted to music. They can be economists, financiers, bankers, speculators, contractors, managers and real estate brokers. They excel as bureaucrats, especially where projects demanding long-term planning and working are concerned, and their skill in debate and love of dialectic make them good politicians. They are excellent teachers, especially as principals of educational establishments where they have the authority to manage and organize without too much intimacy with the staff members. If working with their hands, they can become practical scientists, engineers, farmers and builders. The wit and flippancy which is characteristic of certain Capricornians may make some turn to entertainment as a career. Possible Capricorn Health Concerns... Capricorn governs the knees, bones and skin, so its subjects may be liable to fractures and strains of the knees and other defects of the legs. Skin diseases from rashes and boils to leprosy (in countries where that disease is prevalent) are dangers, and digestive upsets may be caused by the tendency of Capricorns to worry or suppress emotions. Anemia, Bright’s disease, catarrh, deafness, rheumatism and rickets are also said to threaten the natives of this sign.

ITALIAN ROAST CHICKEN

WITH PEPPERS AND OLIVES A roast chicken always is celebratory. The vibrantly coloured and intensely flavoured vegetables that are cooked alongside here seem only to underline this, offering their own brightness and brio, sunny in taste as well as mood, Nermine Tarek Writes Ingredients 1.5 kg Chicken (preferably organic) 1 Unwaxed lemon, cut in half 4 Sprigs rosemary 3 Leeks, washed and trimmed 2 Red peppers 1 Orange pepper 1 Yellow pepper 100 g pitted dry-packed black olives 4 Tsp. olive oil Sea salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper, to serve.

50

What’s Up

Preparation method * Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. Untruss the chicken, sit it in a roasting tin and put the lemon halves and two of the rosemary sprigs into the chicken’s cavity. * Wash and trim the leeks, cut each into three logs, then slice lengthways and add to the tin. Now remove the core and seeds of the peppers and slice them into strips, following their natural curves and ridges, and add these to the tin. * Tumble in the olives, and now pour the olive oil, mostly over the vegetables but a little over the chicken, too. Add the remaining rosemary sprigs to the vegetables, along with some sea salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper, to taste. Using a couple of spoons or spatulas, gently toss the vegetables about to help coat them with the oil and make sure everything’s well mixed up.

* Sprinkle some sea salt flakes over the chicken and put it in the oven for about 1:1¼ hours, by which time the chicken should be cooked through, and its juices running clear when you cut into the flesh with a small sharp knife at the thickest part of the thigh joint. The vegetables should be tender by now, too, and some of the leeks will be a scorched lightbrown in parts. * Remove the chicken to a carving board and, while it rests (for about 10 minutes) pop the pan of veg back in the oven, switching the oven off as you do so. * Cut the chicken up chunkily, transferring the pieces to a large warmed platter. Now take the pan back out of the oven and, with a slotted spoon or spatula, remove the vegetables to the large platter and when all is arranged to your aesthetic delight, pour over it all the bronze, highly-flavoured juices that have collected in the pan. 51

allow to cool completely, still in their tins, before icing. For the chocolate icing, heat the chocolate and cream in a saucepan over a low heat until the chocolate melts. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk the mixture until smooth, glossy and thickened. Set aside to cool for 1-2 hours, or until thick enough to spread over the cake. To assemble the cake, run a roundbladed knife around the inside of the cake tins to loosen the cakes. Carefully remove the cakes from the tins. Spread a little chocolate icing over the top of one of the chocolate cakes, then carefully top with the other cake. Transfer the cake to a serving plate and ice the cake all over with the chocolate icing, using a palette knife.
