About Durham Region Durham Region lies immediately to the east of the City of Toronto within the Greater Toronto Area and encompasses an area of approximately 2,590 square kilometres (1,000 square miles). The area is characterized by a variety of landscapes and communities. A series of major lakeshore urban communities contrast with a variety of small towns, villages, hamlets and farms which lie immediately inland. The relatively flat lakeshore area marked by the bluffs, wooded creeks and ancient shoreline, features contrasts with the hummocky topography of the Oak Ridges Moraine running parallel to the shoreline only 15 miles to the north. This diverse landscape of woods, headwaters, ridges and hollows gives way to rolling farmlands and lakes to the north. Here the Municipality spreads into the prime recreational lakelands of Simcoe, Scugog and the Kawarthas. The Region lies along a continuous urbanized lakeshore and shares prime access to the Great Lakes and northeastern markets of the continent, encompassing some 120 million persons. The area is well known for the strength of its manufacturing sector which is continually undergoing rapid diversification. Durham is endowed with a young, skilled labour force. It has all the utilities, transportation and social infrastructure associated with modern metropolitan communities. Among a number of the economic factors for the Region is strong growth in residential development.

2019 Project to Launch

Convention Centre Dance. Dine. Enjoy. This state-of-the-art building design will have three chic restaurants with a year-round glass covered patio on the ground floor and a modern contemporary Banquet Hall on the upper level. The building design combines traditional motifs for the Banquet Hall interior, including chandeliers, scones, deluxe drapery, wainscoting, etc., with state-ofthe- art contemporary architecture, including floor to ceiling glass with built-in sun shielding. The Banquet Hall will have a capacity of 1000 guests and will be complete with two bar lounges and a luxurious bridal suite to host weddings, social events and conferences. This a 27,635-sq. ft. multi-use commercial building will be supported by 164 parking spaces.

Project Features Overview The first of SJ71’s investment in Ajax,G Plaza was conceived as a event and entertainment centre to serve the surrounding community, which lacks social facilities, particularly ones that are responsive to the area’s cultural diversity. Situated on two lots, G Plaza is a 27,635 sq.ft. multi-use commercial building. It includes a banquet hall on the 2nd floor to host weddings, social events and business conferences, and three multi-cultural restaurants on the main floor. Two bar lounges and a luxirious bridal suite will complement the banquet facilities. SJ71’s corporate office will also be located on site. The building design combines traditional motifs for the banquet hall interior, including chandeliers, scones, deluxe drapery, wainscotting, etc., with stae-ofthe-art contemporary architecture, including floor to ceiling glass with built-in sun shielding. Exterior lighting of the building outline will ensure nighttime visibility and impact. Consistent with SJ71’s social commitment to neighborhood-building, the banquet hall will have a family and community orientation , for example, hosting local children’s teams once a month. The facility will be supported by 200 parking spaces.

OLD PUMP House joy of Whitby

The Old Pump Station is SJ71’s first foray into heritage conservation. The project involves restoring a 2700 square foot stone heritage building and adding another 8000 square feet in a style and using materials that are consistent with the historical character of the original. The building will house a restaurant/bar and meeting facilities, serving local Whitby residents and businesses while also drawing tourists to the Whitby waterfront. The Old Pump Station will compliment existing waterfront attractions like the lighthouse, marina and Heydenshore Pavilion. The character of the original 1904 pump house will be maintained through restoration of the stone walls, windows and roof. The addition will match in both materials and design. When combined with outdoor patios, the addition will increase the site’s utility and take advantage of lake side views. Green roofs and energy efficient fixtures throughout will contribute to sustain ability. Exterior landscaping, walkways & bike paths, warming huts and cobblestone parking will complete the waterfront experience.

Site History

• Waterworks Pump House was built in 1904, in Whitby, Ontario

• After the construction of two additional pump houses, use of the original structure was ceased.

• Today, the site stands alongside Lake Ontario’s shore and is a valuable historical anchor amongst the modern development of the harbourfront.
