Message from
the Director of Teacher Training Dear Fellow Educators, AssalamuAlaikum, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. — William Butler Yeats We are excited about bringing a total support system for the schools in Gulf Region. A unique programme that begins with a dialogue with all stakeholders in schools, including ministry of education, school management, novice and senior teachers; students and their parents and continues on to diagnosing the issues that matter most to all. We then provide solutions not only in form of training but staying with you through-out the academic year providing you with necessary support and guidance required in the implementation of innovative ideas that bring the welcoming change. We stay focused in supporting beginning and experienced teachers as they develop into high quality practitioners who have a strong impact on student achievement. We understand the importance of retaining the trained staff and help you in cultivating a network where all feel supported and appreciated. Teachers at the beginning of their careers are not the only ones who need support; it is required in all phases of their career. Teachers need time and support to continue developing as effective teachers who have a specific vision of effective teaching that they are working towards. Teachers are so often isolated, with increasing demands and pressures to succeed. With our continual support we are positive that the undue pressures can be eased of while we support learning and development every step of the way. With our focus on improving the quality of teaching, creating systems of support, increasing job satisfaction and teacher quality, and retaining excellent teachers, we are poised to make a difference in the school system. We cannot maintain a culture where an excellent novice teacher is likely to have moved on before she is ready to make a major impact on student achievement, or where any teacher is left alone to learn to teach across the career. Strong instructional improvement programs like ours aim to keep teachers motivated and help them develop as high quality educators from the beginning of their career. Guided by a specific vision of teaching that we are mentoring towards, OEGC is prepared to train and guide effective practice with comprehensive support. Looking forward to working with you, Syeda Rufeeda Bukhari Director Language and Teacher Education Programme
