Assembly Instructions Step 1. Draw diagonal line on wrong side of cream 2 7/8" square. Referring toDiagram I, place cream square on medium mauve 2 7/8" square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced square. Make 8.

Diagram I SUB UNIT ASSEMBLY Pieced Diamonds: Using intersecting points, align diamonds and sew from edge to edge. (Diagram II) Make 8.

Diagram II BLOCK ASSEMBLY Sew pieced diamonds together forming quadrants. Sew quadrants together. (Diagram III) Set-in quarter-square triangles and corner squares to complete the Blazing Star block. (Diagram IV)

Directions are for 6˝ Block. Directions for 9˝ and 12˝ block are in [brackets]. Step 1. Referring to Diagram I, sew purple and yellow strips together. Make 1. Press in direction of arrow. Cut into 8 segments 1 3/16˝ [1 9/16˝, 1 15/16˝] wide. Stitch 2 segments into pieced square. Make 4.

Diagram I Step 2. Stitch white half-square triangles to sides of pieced square (see Diagram II). Make 4.

Diagram II Step 3. On wrong side of large white square, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram III, place white square on large purple square, right sides together. Sew ¼˝ seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares. Make 4.


Diagram III Step 4. Stitch 8 pieced squares and 1 small purple square into 3 rows. Sew rows together to make Butterfly Block (Diagram IV).

Assembly Instructions Step 1. Using marking pencil of choice, mark match points on blue half-square triangles and background squares (Diagram I-A). Pin match points together and sew pieces edge-to-edge. Referring to Diagram I-B, sew stripe rectangle to triangle edge to make Unit 1. Make 4


Step 2. Using Diagram II as a guide, sew background quarter-square triangles to Unit 1. Make 2.

Step 3. Using Diagram III as a guide, sew Unit 1 to opposite sides of floral print square. Make 1.

Step 4. Referring to Assembly Diagram, sew rows together diagonally.


Delectable Mountains Quilt Block

Piecing the block Step 1. On wrong side of background squares, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Using Diagram I as a guide, layer square together with background fabric on top. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line: cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares.

Diagram I Step 2. Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of, Piece 4A dark blue squares. UsingDiagram II as a guide, layer Piece 4A dark blue square and Piece 1C background rectangle, right sides together. Sew directly on top of drawn line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from seamline. Press seam allowance toward dark blue triangle. Repeat for other end of rectangle. Make 4 Flying Geese units.

Diagram II Step 3. Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of 2" squares. Using Diagram III as a guide, layer dark blue square


and upper right corner of Piece 1D background square, right sides together. Sew directly on top of drawn line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from seamline. Press seam allowance toward corner triangle. Repeat the steps for each corner of the square. Make 4.

Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from seam line. Press seam allowance. Repeat for other end of rectangle, using Piece 6-A dark pink square (Diagram II). Make 8.


Diagram II Step 3 ... Square in a Square Unit Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of Piece 5-A medium pink square. Layer Piece 5-A and upper right corner of Piece 1-B cream square, right sides together. Sew directly on top of drawn line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from seam line. Press seam allowance. Using Diagram III as a guide, repeat the steps for each corner of the square, making sure that color placement matches the diagram. Make 4.

Diagram III Step 4 ... Pieced Square Sub Unit Referring to Diagram IV, sew 3 completed pieced square units and 1 cream 2" x 2" square together to make sub unit. Check to insure color placement for pieced squares is the same as shown in the diagram, before sewing sub unit together. Make 4.

Diagram IV Step 5 ... Assembling Block Using Assembly Diagram as a guide, piece units together to make rows. Piece rows together to make Dutch Rose block.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Step 1. On wrong side of square, draw diagonal line. Sew directly on top of marked line; cut away excess fabric. Press towards triangle (Diagram I). Note the direction of the drawn line for the short half trapezoid (4 1/2" rectangle used) as compared to the long half trapezoid (6 1/2" rectangle used). Make 4 of each.

Step 2. Sew together pieces as shown in Diagram II to make quadrant. Make 4.

Step 3. Sew 2 rows of 2 quadrants each, rotating as shown (Assembly Diagram). Stitch rows together to make Four-Patch Block.

Stripe ... Fabric #3 .....Cut strip 1 3/4" x 44". Using 45 degree angle on ruler, cut 8 diamonds.

Pink ... Fabric #4 Purple with Flower ... Color #2 .....Cut four 2 1/4" squares .....For non-Kaleidoscope diamonds: Cut 2 strips 1 3/4" x Purple ... Fabric #5 44". Using 45 degree angle on ruler, cut 24 diamonds .....Cut one 4" square (see cutting diagrams). Cutting Diamonds

Diagram I For Kaleidoscope design: Make a diamond shaped plastic template including seam line. (See Diagram II.) With right side of fabric up select a motif and center the template on top of it (ignore grain line). Trace an outline


of the motif directly onto the plastic using a marking tool of your choice. Mark the fabric around the template and cut it out. Using guidelines drawn on the template, mark and cut out 23 more identical pieces. Erase guidelines if you are making more than one block. Trace new guidelines for each motif.

Diagram II Assembly Diagram Step 1. Using Diagram III as piece guide, mark match points on wrong side of fabric. Sew to match point and back stitch.

Diagram III Step 2. Using Diagram IV as piece guide, mark match points on wrong side of fabric. Sew to inner match points and back stitch. Sew to edge at outer match points.

Step 1. Referring to Diagram IA, sew Background 18" strip to Red 18" strip. Cut 8 segments 2" wide.

Diagram I-B Step 2. Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of navy 3 1/2Ë? square. Layer square and 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" Background rectangle. Sew directly on top of drawn line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from seamline. Press seam allowance. Repeat for other end of rectangle (Diagram II). Make 4.

Piecing the block Flying Geese Units. Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of, Piece B blue print squares and Piece E peach squares. Layer Piece B blue print square and Piece C background rectangle, right sides together (large Flying Geese unit) and Piece E peach square with Piece F background rectangle (small Flying Geese unit). Sew directly on top of drawn line. Cut away excess fabric 1/4" from seamline. Press seam allowance toward blue print. Repeat for other end of rectangle (Diagram I). Make 4 large and 4 small Flying Geese units.
