PROFESSIONAL 01 INDIA DESIGN - ID 2017 PROJECT TYPE : Installation Design for a design exhibition ORGANIZATION : M:OFA Studios, Delhi TIME-LINE : Dec’16 to Feb’ 17 LOCATION : NSIC Grounds, Delhi, India

CONCEPT : The Magical Winter Landscape of Delhi There is magic in the air during the winters in Delhi, the flowers of the deepest tones bloom all over and the fog makes it seem magical. However, on the other hand, its a city with alot of urban structures that are made after cutting trees. These structures were a tribute to those deforested cityscapes of Delhi. “Dotting the event’s walkway with structures representing cut tree barks, wrapped with metal-scrap” Individual Role: Involved in conceptualizing the project, with 3D modeling, scripting of forms, form development and dealing with fabricators and coordination, to getting it fabricated and installed on the site before the day of launch of the event.

Exploring forms using clay to develop clusters and individual forms

Creating clusters and finalizing the forms of various structures

Varying sections of a form were laser cut, assembled on site, with wood infills

Conceptual finish and proposed use of the installation

FINAL FINISH OF THE STRUCTURE REPRESENTS THE CHAOS CAUSED BY DEVELOPMENT OF DELHI

PROFESSIONAL 02 GODREJ GOLF LINK - CLUB PROJECT TYPE: Clubhouse with Golf Links in a Residential township ORGANIZATION: DADA & Partners, Delhi TIME LINE: Nov 2016 - Ongoing LOCATION: Greater Noida, India

Concept The idea was to have a sculptural recreational space, in the heart of township, in line with the site entrance. All angles of this club is visible from all the residential towers and row houses in the project. Double screen system not only gives the building a dynamism in the repetitive surrounding of houses, but also makes it sustainable, quantifiable for LEED accreditation. Individual Role Involved at the DD - design development stage of the project, after municipal drawing approval. Working drawings, General Arrangement Drawings, Detail Drawings, slab profiles, Presentation drawings, 3D visualization, along with dealing and managing all the consultants of the project. Project was at the site, with foundation and basement ready for first slab casting.

ACADEMIC- DESIGN 04 ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS Located in: Qutub Institutional Area, Delhi, India Year: 2016 Site & Brief: Situated in institutional area, with the best universities and colleges, an institute which offers formal education in Performing Arts, which is still considered as a hobby rather than a serious profession in most of India. Rarely any institute offer various genres of performing arts together on one single campus. Specially the Indian and Western genres are ever seen being taught under one roof. Hence need for a united campus for Dance, Music and Theatre of different genres could be fulfilled by an Academy of Performing Arts. Approach: To have an integrated program of various genres and disciplines, case studies of famous performing arts school was done as the first step. Then at urban scale, how the institute would respond to site and surrounding colleges and other buildings was studied in depth, to explore the possibilities of form. Volumetric analysis of spatial configurations resulted in an organic form, with punctures for students to interact and practice as groups for various form of arts.

FORM EVOLUTION

RELATIONSHIP DIAGRAM

Inferences from the context and the relationship, resulted in designing the multipurpose space at the heart of the institute, as a relief space. As curved spaces can be less formal, the form evolved from linear arrangements, to more organic form, keeping strong urban edge. The center looking courtyards gel with the curved paths inspired from movements of the dancers.

ACADEMIC- DESIGN 04 HOUSE OF FOUR SENSES Located in: Hampi, Karnataka, India Year: 2014 Site & Brief: Located on the flood plains of a river in Hampi, the scenic site with topographically rich views, and houses Virupaksha Temple on the opposite river bank. The exercise was to design a 50 SQ M house for a visually impaired person, to explore the

use of only four senses to enhance the design experience.

PROGRESSION OF SPACES - IN PLAN

Experiment: Every person in the studio was blind folded and given a stick, to navigate throug the campus with one helper, to experience similar spaces without seeing them. As a personal experience, the volume of the space was experienced most strongly by the sense of hearing the sound and physical touch. Texture or physical turn indicated the ending or beginning of a space or rooms, by the use-of different materials. These two observations were the key elements in the design of the house. Approach: Decreasing volume with the progression of spaces from public to private led to the form of the house. Turn indicators which could be physically felt were introduced for a linear-branched circulation of the house. Difference in material on different walls were introduced to indicate the space divisions. The materials being wood and concrete. Shear walls support the house, creating space under the house to be used when plains are flooded with river water.

ACADEMIC- DESIGN 05 INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF PHOTOGRAPHY Located in: Diplomatic Enclave, Delhi, India Year: 2013 Site & Brief: Situated in a diplomatic area, park is used by near-by residents for morning walk, yoga and exercises. It is used for picnics and other recreational activities like fairs, small scale exhibitions, open air concerts etc. The brief was to design a gallery and other allied spaces for exhibition and to promote appreciation of photography. Concept and Design: As the site consists of naturally varying topography, the idea was to design ‘for the visitor’, ‘for the staff’ ‘for the daily users’. The daily users or the morning walkers would feel an invasion if the building is put on the site, hence it was lifted up on stilts, which can offer shade to perform daily activities. Presence of natural bed rock, water body, and trees governed the organic nature of the built and enhances the experience of naturals sitting spaces by the building almost growing around the rock beds. Even though the overall design is inward looking, stilts remains inviting for people to walk under it.

ACADEMIC DRAWING 06 TRADITIONAL MANSION - MEASURED DRAWING Located in: Bikaner, Rajasthan, India Year: 2013 The task was to document the mansion, also known as ‘Haveli’ by measuring and producing hand drawings (in group of 20). Traditionally in ‘Havelis’, carving of geometric motifs in stone and wood is seen as ornamentation, to demonstrate the royal status of the family who owns it. This is the front elevation of it, accompanied by a pattern detail of the window.

The idea was to explore pneumonic structures, without a need for substructure. A 6m tall ovoid balloon, was designed to be made with plastic sheets and scotch tape pasted on the seams. A 2m high opening allowed people to walk and experience the volume inside the shell. The shell was fabricated in the workshop with students and it was installed on the university campus with a fan for a continuous supply of air to inflate it.
