Amazing Autumn Days The days are getting shorter and shadows are getting longer. Fall is officially upon us!

In this month’s issue of Inspired, we’re celebrating the winners of our second annual Inspired by

NAPCP Gallery Event and Print Competition. Our deepest gratitude to all who entered prints, to our judges, and to our delightful sponsors. Special thanks to our partner, Musea Lab, for joining with us to put on this event. The winning gallery is now available on the NAPCP website and NAPCP Facebook Page for your viewing pleasure.

We’re looking forward to fun as a NAPCP collective in December, with our final NAPCP Gatherings

of the year taking place around the globe the week of December 11th-18th. Members and friends of NAPCP will be coming together for an energizing end to the year, and we will be featuring some of our favorite images from winter Gatherings across NAPCP media. If you missed the September Gathering, make sure you attend the December Gathering -- it is sure to be incredible!

While you’re at NAPCP.com, download our client holiday gifts, like client calendars, and

purchase a complementing fine art print, too! If, like us, you firmly believe that Halloween is one of the most fun times of the year, you will want to bob over to our free printable Halloween luminaries created by our team especially for you. Bookmark the site so you can see all of the amazing content being submitted and featured!

Speaking of amazing content, don’t forget to add Marketing Mondays to your calendar! LIVE

in the NAPCP Member Community Facebook Group each Monday. Our team members are always there with our coffee, tea, or sparkling water in hand!

This month’s featured photographers all have one thing in common -- they know what makes

a magnificent print! Across the Inspired Gallery Event themes of Color, Water, and Explore, these photographers entered their imagery into our second annual print competition. The prints were on display at the Gallery Event reception held at Park Studios in Atlanta, where the winners were placed and memories were made and tears of joy were shed. We interviewed a selection of the placing photographers and you will want to absorb every bit of the inspiring words they have to share!

Have a boo-tiful rest of the month of October!

With sweets and treats, The NAPCP Team

A BEAUTIFUL GALLERY

After much excitement and anticipation surrounding

NAPCP’s

second

annual

gallery event and print competition, we are positively elated to feature some of the winning artists and images from this year’s Inspired by NAPCP Gallery Event. Winning prints were marked by custom black ribbons for all who attended the gallery event reception to see. As NAPCP continues to grow and thrive, one of the most crucial pieces of our organization is the celebration and promotion of our accomplished members. We are extremely proud of the success of the Inspired by NAPCP Gallery Event and all that it brings to the NAPCP competition repertoire. The second annual Inspired by NAPCP Gallery Event Reception was held at NAPCP’s Park Studios headquarters. In contrast to our annual International Image Competitions, the NAPCP Gallery Event is creative in nature and gives both members and non-members the chance to place in one of three categories. The categories for our 2018 event were Color, Water, and Explore. The purpose of this event was to provide an opportunity for

NAPCP

members

professional

photographer friends to explore their creativity in new ways. 8 | NAPCP Inspired Magazine October 2018

ALL THE DETAILS

Park Studios, which also hosts NAPCP’s office, was the light filled scene of the visually stunning event. In the heart of the Buckhead historic district of Atlanta, Georgia, this studio and creative event space was transformed to coordinate with and enhance the gallery prints submitted for the competition.

AMAZING JUDGES

We want to extend our sincerest thanks to our talented panel of judges: 2017 NAPCP Photographer of the Year Ashley Berrie, 2014 NAPCP Photographer of the Year Jennifer Kapala, and Rachel LaCour Niesen. The judges spent time at Park Studios prior to the gallery event reception, for scoring. Our judges represented two different countries (traveling from as far away as Calgary!) and three distinct photography perspectives, each award winning photographers and industry luminaries in their own right.

DEEP EMOTIONS

As gallery events were viewed and winners placed, the photographers honored in our second annual print competition were overtaken with emotion. From 100 print entries, the Inspired Gallery Event judges selected the 9 images that captured the spirit of each of the categories. An Honorable Mention was also announced at the gallery event reception and named by NAPCP. “We are absolutely over the moon to recognize the artistry of the photographers whose work was on display at our second annual gallery event,” gushed NAPCP co-founder Alice Park. “The creativity and camaraderie coursing through the event was electrifying.” The

Event

Reception

celebrated the photographers and prints submitted by placing the entire gallery on display. The reception was open to the public via a ticketed event. Most of the beautiful photos were custom matted and printed by our partner for this event, Musea Lab. All featured artists were invited to attend the reception with their family and friends, and those who were present enjoyed light appetizers and refreshments, not to mention wonderful conversations! We encouraged everyone to truly take it all in and be enveloped by the artistry surrounding them! 16 | NAPCP Inspired Magazine October 2018

Tell us about your first meaningful photography experience. My first meaningful photography experience was when I made a connection with a family and delivered images they loved. The first time I experienced this was early on, with a family in my old neighborhood ... friends of ours. It was an urban setting shoot and the first time I felt things click and make a connection. They had me do their 10th anniversary family shoot a couple years later. That was the turning point for me and I feel like I’ve gotten better at identifying and creating those moments of connection ever since. Seeing the results of all that hard work and the impact it has on a family that’s real. With each shoot I find that experience evolves, I learn, I become more comfortable and confident, and that makes me better.

What’s your gear setup, and do you have a go-to lens? For gear, I shoot with a Canon 5diii, Canon 35mm F1.4L , Canon 135mm F2L, and Sigma ART 24mm. My go-to lens is my 35mm. Prior to purchasing the Sigma 24mm, my 35mm was on my camera 95% of the time; I love how versatile it is! We love the everyday feel of your placing photograph! What, if anything, did you do as far as direction to capture such a stunning image? Thank you! My goal with most photos I take is to keep them true to life. This image was inspired by watching my kids jump on the bed. I watched my daughter jump a few times so I could plan how I could best get all of the elements to line up the way I wanted them. Once I had an idea of what I wanted to capture, I asked her to fall backwards a few times. She had a blast while I took a few test shots, and honestly was a little disappointed when I got the shot I was after. She would have been happy to jump on the bed all day and has asked quiet a few times since then if we can do it again.

Many photographers are intimidated by photographing in water. What advice do you have for a photographer feeling timid about attempting this? 1. Make

sure

you

have

adequate

equipment insurance before you even set foot in water to shoot --water is far less intimidating if you have a means of financially recovering your equipment! 2. Know everything you can about the body of water you are planning to be in for your shoot -- scout it out ahead of time. The more you know about your location, the easier it is to actually focus on photographing your subject. Murky water makes it hard to see what you are stepping on and can hide potential hazards. Rocky bottoms make it difficult to walk and things like zebra mussels and errant fishing hooks can cut your feet open. I always wear water shoes to help me keep my balance and protect my feet -- that way I am less likely to fall and damage my camera. 3. When it comes to actually shooting, move around -- try different angles and heights and don’t be afraid of getting wet and muddy. Most importantly, have

fun with it and don’t be afraid of failing -- that is how we learn and grow.
