EPlus clubs The Hindu, national newspaper has come up with an unique club called EPlus club. The simplicity about about this club is that it can be started anywhere and can be conducted or performed at any given time. This is best suited for Colleges where students have hesitation to talk in English but are in need of an informal platform. The details about this club are as follows: The Eplus club initiative is aimed at enabling learning through enjoyment and cultivating essential skills such as English communication, learning ability, logical thinking, collecting and retaining information etc. The vision of blending learning and fun makes Eplus an effective solution. The Eplus initiative requires students to get together in groups and taking part in fun activities. Eplus clubs aim to create a platform where students can get together and interact informally, give each other the opportunity to practice English, overcome stage fear, build up confidence, acquire and enhance social skills, and so on.
What is Eplus? Eplus club activity is designed to enable students to actively use English and become confident with the language. For the majority of students in India, especially those in rural or semi-urban areas, learning English can be quite difficult. The most significant difficulty is the lack of opportunity to practice: they rarely get a space and group to speak English in. Eplus addresses this problem through the concept of group activities. Our activities require students to speak within and FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER NOV 15, 2010 PAGE 4

in front of a group, team up and play games and come up with collective plans of action. This provides opportunities for speaking and expressing opinions freely and without any inhibitions. In addition to gaining confidence, students also learn to co-exist, speak out in public and function as a team.
What Eplus is NOT about Training or certification: Eplus clubs are not meant to certify students, or to offer specific training. The focus is on creating learning opportunities for students. It is not a training/certification programme, and there are no syllabi or tests involved. Formal Teaching: It is far from conventional teaching in classrooms. Essentially a small, informal gathering to get involved in fun activities which enhances important skills. Placement Programme: It is not meant to prepare students for job interviews and assessment tests. Participating in Eplus activities will improve a student’s confidence as well as employability skills which will be beneficial when he/she is looking for a job. Compulsion: Participation is voluntary. Students should be encouraged to join only if they are interested and serious about following the activities. Examinations: There are no periodical examinations involved.
We at JIPC, shortly, would like to start EPlus club in association with ‘The Hindu’ Hindu’. This newsletter will carry the implementation and progress progress of EPlus club in our college. FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER NOV 15, 2010 PAGE 5

Admission criteria differ for each course and each university. Abroad universities demand for the students having experience in science or art based programmes and internships that convey the candidate’s focus achievement and dedication. Universities specially look for leadership qualities and one’s participation in extracurricular activities as well. Good performance in the qualifying exams is also considered. Especially MBA programmes demand the work experience in industry at least for the period of two years. During the years of performing one’s studies abroad, he should mingle with other students who are from different background. It is important for a student to know about his own country and achievements of his countrymen in various fields. It is always the way of perceiving and facing the things that matters. So, the student must not let the other students think that he is weak. He should be competitive in everything. Being in touch with the seniors, alumni will give an impetus to the job search. To have a list of one’s potentialities and also having the guidance of seniors, faculty, and good job consultant is a good source of practical information. It will end up with the candidate’s successful search for his career. It is vital to keep on applying for jobs even when the candidate is confident of his yesterday’s interview. It is because only a fraction of our attempt will result in the job which the candidate is looking for. It is only the persistence that helps the candidate in getting his ideal job. So, only a planned and careful attempt of an aspirant towards his career abroad can fetch him better result.
