Double Damaka!!

25 students got selected to INFOSYS-DATA & BPO on 27th March, 2011. Earlier to this on Feb 28, 2011, 14 students were picked-up

by WIPRO-WASE. Hence, this news is obviously „Double Damaka‟.

An approx. 400 Students from various colleges (Government as well as Aided/ Private Colleges) participated in the Pool-Drive.

All through these years, the Job Information & Placement Cell (JIPC), conducted Campus Selections in it‟s own college viz., Government Science College, Hassan for all the final year students of all the colleges of entire Hassan District. But, for the first time, the Pool-Drive of Infosys-DATA & BPO was conducted in association with Placement Cell of Government First Grade College for Women‟s, Hassan. This is once a great beginning.

This act not only gives other colleges (especially Government Colleges) a first hand knowledge of Conducting Campus Selections/Pool-Drives in their own college, but also, the students of these colleges can feel proud of hosting very good MNC‟s in their own college. And the final expectations from us is – let more and more students of rural colleges get accustomed to the changes in the society caused due to globalization. Let these students come out of the shackles of Government Jobs is and the only option to live and but believe that they too can dream a job in MNCs.

MY EXPERIENCE ON CAMPUS INTERVIEW BY INFOSYS -by Priyanka.A.S.Final Sem BMBt.,

Uff…..finally I got selected to INFOSYS!!! My dream had come true of getting a job in a reputed company. It was my day.

Just a week back i.e on 20th March Prof. Narayana Prasad., visited our class & informed about campus interview by Infosys. As we were from life science, most of us didn‟t show any response to Sir. But his courage words recharged us & made us to register for the interview.

And it was my 1st interview in my life. On Sunday 27th March 2001, as my sir insisted me, I reached women‟s college campus at exact 9:15am.

After meeting my Sir, Narayan Prasad, without any fear & hesitation I entered the auditorium at around 9: 45am.

When I entered the Auditorium, I was stunned for a minute looking at the crowd of candidates.

Exactly at 10am Infosys personnel Mr.Umashankar and his team were welcomed by both the Principals of Govt. Science College and Govt First Grade College for Women, Hassan. Before Infosys team entering to the hall Prof.Narayan Prasad Sir filled enthusiasm in all the students through his speech.

Mr.Umashankar of Infosys introduced himself & conveyed us about Infy…..and what infosys is... Some of the students asked their doubt about company, work, salary etc…. HR cleared all doubts.

The 1st step of the selection process i.e “APTITUDE TEST” started. We were provided with an OMR answer sheet each and it is of objective type based.

55 questions were to be answered in 60mins. Even at the time of submitting answer sheets I was very confident that I will get select. Mr.Umashankar told us to wait for half an hour to get results.

After the time, all the students who attended the test assembled in a class room where Umashankar announced the names of those who got selected to next round. I was one among them.

41 cleared the Aptitude Test.

And it was Lunch Break.

The next step was “GROUP DISCUSION”. It was carried out by Umashankar. A topic was selected to discuss by every one and discussed as per their knowledge. I decided to talk about my qualities, my weakness etc... And hope i managed well in this stage too.

As soon as we completed GD, they took personal interview through telephone from Bengaluru. They asked me to introduce myself & my Aims & Objectives & the reason to join Infosys. I smartly answered to all these questions. After this interaction, HR told us to wait for final results. All of us waited with lots of hope. It was already 6pm. Umashankar came with a list of names of those who got selected. He announced 25 students name, I was one among them. I was so happy at that moment.

At the time when Prof.Narayana Prasad told about Infosys Pool-Drive, I thought that if I attend interview, I‟ll simply waste my Sunday. But I came to know I am wrong when I got selected. It‟s really a new experience to me.

So my opinion is that every college should have a teacher like Prof.Narayan Prasad Sir. A total of 25 final year students of BA/BSc.,/ BCom.,/BBM/BCA etc., from various Degree Colleges of Hassan District got selected. I heartily thank to my Principle, Prof. Narayana Prasad Sir, JIPC, Mr.Umashankar and of-course Infosys for providing me an wonderful opportunity and on behalf of my College Staff and Selected Students.

Myths about IAS-CSAT The whole process of this examination is carrying some myth which gives sometime wrong perceptions and notion in the mind of Civil Services Aspirants.

1. The UPSC did not Prefer Candidates in their late 20’s The most interesting fact about IAS selection in recent years is the increase in average age of successful candidates. In the 2008 IAS batch, only 16 officers (out of 111) were below 26.

2. Recruitment and Selection is dominated by males Out of the total 4,572 IAS officers all over India (as on January 1, 2009), only 604 are women (Just 13.72 per cent). But, in the last five years, out of the 465 candidates selected to IAS, 101 are women (22 per cent).

It is examination for convent educated In the year 2009, 19 out of the 111 selected to the IAS wrote the exam in Hindi. In 2008 IAS batch, there was one officer who wrote the entire exam in Tamil and there was another who wrote it in Telugu.

4. CSAT is revised version of Management and PO Exams CSAT is a recruitment exam for a career in the Civil Services, a discipline which requires a different set of abilities and attitude, so the CSAT is an entirely different exam.

5. Numeracy and Reasoning of CSAT is difficult and give undue advantage to candidates with a technical background CSAT, by virtue of being an Aptitude Test for Civil Services, will test students for their ability to play with numbers but not higher level Maths. A candidate who has passed 10th standard knows more Maths than is needed by the CSAT. 6.

The Comprehension and English Language Comprehension Skill will be easy It is not true because unlike other areas UPSC here judge not only your overall understanding of language but also your grammar, composition, usage, vocabulary and analytical power.

Background of Aptitude Test Ancient China was the first country in the world that implemented a nationwide Aptitude test, which was called the imperial examination. The main purpose of this examination was to select for able candidates for specific governmental positions.

The imperial examination was established by the Sui Dynasty at 605 AD and was later abolished by the Qing Dynasty 1300 years later at 1905.

Types of Questions under Aptitude Tests Multiple choice: In a test that has items formatted as multiple choice questions, a candidate would be given a number of set answers for each question, and the candidate must choose which answer or group of answers is correct. There are two families of multiple choice questions. The first family is known as the True/False question and it requires a test taker to choose all answers that are appropriate. The second family is known as One-Best-Answer question and it requires a test taker to only one answer from a list of answers.

True/False: True/False questions present candidates with a binary choice - a statement is either true or false.

Matching: A matching item is an item that provides a defined term and requires a test taker is to match identifying characteristic to the correct term.

Fill-in-the-blank: A fill-in-the-blank item provides a test taker with identifying characteristics and requires the test taker to recall the correct them.

Mathematical questions: Most mathematics questions, or calculation questions from areas such as verbal and analytical reasoning employ a style , although some papers, notably the Maths Challenge questions are significant in multiple choice.
