Dr.N.Nagambika Devi, I.A.S, Commissioner, Dept.of Collegiate Education, Bengaluru visited our College on 24th November, 2009. It was indeed a great honour and pleasure to all of us. Her words and vision towards higher education combined with employability are worth mentioning. The ‘Sahayog’ under the novel programme of the Department ‘Hosa Hejje’ has been implemented in this College. We at Job Information and Placement Cell are realising these visions from the past seven years to the interested final year degree students. Hope the thoughts of the Commissioner in this regard are received by the younger generations with high spirit of enthusiasm. – Editor.
INTERVIEWS – ROLE OF COMMUNICATION The interview is a two way process of communication where you need to introduce yourself to the company. There are three types of interviews for professional jobs and executive jobs. They are: 01) Group Discussion. 02) Subject/Technical Interview and 03) Personal Interview In all the three interviews, your intellectual abilities, communication skills, language skills, way of walking into interview hall, initiative and drive etc., will be observed and judged. Good preparation instills confidence. The basic approach to an interview is to be well prepared. This means two things – 01. Preparing you practically for the interview and 02. How to write effective e-mails 03. Specify the Response You Want Make sure to include any call to action you want, such as a phone call or follow-up appointment. Then, make sure you include your contact information, including your name, title, and phone numbers. Do this even with internal messages. Remember, the easier you make it for someone else to respond, the more likely they are to do so! Bad Example From: reliablelandscrapes@domain.com Subject: Proposal Yogesh, Did you get my proposal last week? I haven't heard back and wanted to make sure. Can you please call me so we can discuss? Thanks! Vadiraj There are several pieces of important information missing from this email. The first thing that's missing is information about the proposal. What if Yogesh got several proposals? Which one is the Vadiraj talking about? Also, did he send it by post, or through email? Also, the writer gave Yogesh no information on how to get in touch. Where is his office number, his cell number, or his business name? Yogesh will have to go and find that information. And, most critically, he didn't give his full name and title at the bottom of the mail despite the fact that his name doesn't form part of his email address.
Good Example Subject: Checking On Reliable Landscrapes Proposal Dear Yogesh, I just wanted to check that you have received the landscaping proposal I emailed to you last week. I haven't heard back and wanted to make sure it went through. Can you please call me by Thursday so we can discuss? This is when our discount offer expires, and I want to make sure you don't miss it! The quickest way to contact me is by cell phone. Thanks! Vadiraj, Owner Reliable Landscraping, Inc. 999 888 7777 (office) 777 888 9999 (cell) Vadiraj has now given Yogesh all the information he needs. He knows he emailed the proposal last week, that he'd like him to call him by Thursday, and that he should use his cell phone to make contact quickly. Most importantly, Vadiraj included his name and title, so Yogesh knows who he is, and put his contact information at the bottom. ‌. (to be contd.)
