Hurray!! Hurray!! Hurray!!
The fortnightly newsletter of JIPC has completed one year. 1
HAPPY NOTE! This Newsletter is a great journey. It was started spontaneously but with a determined mind. There was a feeling that the activity relating to the Placement Cell need to be addressed in a better platform. Placement activity is the need of the hour irrespective of rural or urban students. Every student now dreams of Campus Selections. These Campus Selections which were happening only to the Engineering Students has now precipitated to the Degree students also. It is indeed great news. The world is changing. The need of the basic science students is increasing. This change has not only changed the mindset of those students who are opting for basic science but also in-take into the Science colleges has increased considerably. Now, students who couldn’t score first class & above at PU (12th Std.,) level are now scoring above first class marks at Degree level. The Social change has made these students to breath easier.

The Placement Activity of the college started way back in 2002-03. The concept was same - getting the Campus Selections happen in our Government Science College situated in a rural area. Initially, there was resistance from MNC’s to reach unto us and also, there was fear and shyness among rural students to face these companies at their own den. Both these problems were to be addressed. In 2005-06, both the above problems were addressed. At first, the interested final year students were trained in Analytical Skills and Language English. Then MNC’s were invited to our college to conduct Campus Selections. The students who were trained were then made to appear for Interviews conducted by these MNC’s. The results were amazing. It was thought that even a student is being selected – it is worth our effort. In our first attempt, nearly 16 students were selected by Infosys. Later on, WIPRO-WIMS, WIPROWASE, TCS, iGATES, COGNIZENT etc., selected our students.

From then on, till today, lots of changes have been made in the training curriculum. Mock interviews are being conducted, Finance & Accounts are being told, awareness regarding Competitive exams. viz., Civil Service Exams (IAS, IPS,‌), KAS, Bank Officers, LIC Officers ..are being brought. Today, many students are joining our college not only to get the advantage of good Faculty & Facility but also to get the advantage of Placement Cell. I thank my higher-ups for their good advice and I thank my colleagues for their good support, my well-wishers for their encouragement and finally the students who realized the importance of these activities and have responded. - A.Narayana Prasad., Head, Dept.of Hindi, Convener, Job Information & Placement Cell, Government Science College, Hassan. narayanprasad_a@yahoo.com
