The most popular '' sour '' (citrus) with the scientific name Citruscinensis and one of the most favorite fruit trees, certainly is orange tree. Not only is the unique ornamental value but mostly has very taste fruits, which depending on the variety consumed fresh, as a fresh juice at meals or salads, are made jam and marmalade without forgetting that the flowers and the fruits produced by excellent quality of essential oils industry. The 'domestication' of wild orange tree seems to have been for at least 4000 years in China and India. In Europe came in 14th to 15th century but still up to the 18th century were cultivated only as an ornamental species because of ignorance of the people regarding the many beneficial properties of orange.

They did not know that it is rich in vitamin C, b-carotene, folic acid, fiber and contains antioxidants and salts. These, combined with the low energy content, fat and carbohydrates, make the orange ideal food for obese and diabetic people while regular consumption prevents many human diseases. The orange tree grows between 40 degrees north and 40 degrees of south latitude, ie. in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions, where winters are not heavy and the climate is hot and cool. It is cultivated from the lowlands up to an altitude of 400 meters. and does not withstand the frost (temperatures below -3oC starting serious losses in production and in trees). They are less resistant to cold than the mandarin but they have the same sensitivity as that in strong winds.

We choose for juice the smaller fruit, as they have more juice. The juice must consumed immediately for not lose its nutritional value, otherwise after the squeezing is maintained in the freezer for several months. Cheers!!!
