Traditional desserts you should taste in Greece The Greek cuisine is famous worldwide for its fine ingredients, its tasteful recipes and its traditional dishes that combine meat, fish and vegetables. However, the Greek cuisine has also many desserts that are perfect after a delicious meal. In Greece, every restaurant and tavern offers high-quality desserts, but you can also find everywhere patisseries with cakes and sweets that will impress you with their taste and appearance. 1. Loukoumades Loukoumades are considered as the Greek version of doughnuts. They are crispy and golden on the outside, fluffy and airy on the inside. This delicacy is great during winter, as it is served hot, but it still remains a very good choice at any time of the year. If you want to try your cooking skills, you can prepare these bite-sized sweet honey puffs, which are served soaked in hot honey syrup, with a very simple recipe.


2. Kataifi Kataifi is a delicious dessert, which is very popular in Greece, Turkey and the Arabic countries. It is a delicacy made with chopped walnuts, scented with clove and cinnamon, wrapped into crispy dough and bathed in lemon syrup.

3. Ravani Ravani is the ultimate cake in Greece. It can be found in many variations, but the most popular is the one with coconut. Ravani is a syrupy Greek cake with flakes of oranges and coconut. Its delicate flavour, texture and smell will amaze you.


4. Galaktompoureko Galaktompoureko is a traditional Greek dessert made from layers of dough, sprinkled with melted butter, filled with creamy custard and bathed in scented syrup. The secret of galaktompoureko is mostly in the dough that should be crispy but at the same time soft.

5. Baklava Baklava is a delicacy also coming from Turkey, which has however found its special place in the Greek tradition. Baklava is made from layers of crispy golden dough, filled with nuts and garnished with syrup.


6. Tsoureki Tsoureki is a kind of sweet bread, which is a tradition to be prepared in Easter. Two aromatic spices, mastic and mahlab, give tsoureki an amazing taste. You can eat tsoureki throughout the whole year; it is a perfect snack that will sweeten your day!

7. Rizogalo Rizogalo is a rice pudding, which takes its name from its two basic ingredients, rice and milk. It is a healthy Greek recipe as it is butter- and egg- free. Rizogalo is served warm and scented with vanilla, cinnamon, lemon peel or orange zest.
