live ships map
In www.marine traffic.com one can see the exact position of the ships going to his selected area. I chose a part of the greek islands, cyclades in order to have both data about the area in km2, population, bordeline, neighboring islands, departures and arrivals of ships. The fact that real time data chance the position of the ships is shownas a simulation in grasshopper, but ideally the definition would be storing and updating the data. The output is a dynamic chart, as the beginning of my interests in redifying the idea of borders and connecting the land which up to now seems unconnected.
collecting data
the following data were used. borderline km ---- for coloring the islands departures ---- for the extrusion height of the islands number of neighbors---- to scale the bordeline and see the new borders in the next step i would like firstly to have data being updated real time. secondly i would like to have a new geometry introduced to the graph instead of circles. the size of the geometry should be according to values and the the area of influence of every ship should be according to population.
remapping the values list item data path
branch
flatten tree
bounds(min-max) generic data
extrude and cap according to departing ships values select all curves and put them into one list
make circles to every point of the grid
color extruded islands according to arriving ships
mesh and color mesh grafted
create hexagonal grid curve point
make a circle according to population values to serve as an area of attraction
extrude and cap
