78violet
Brief: This individual brief was to produce a re brand for the band after their recent change in name, from Aly & AJ to 78violet, and change in musical direction in preparation their first album release in 5 years. For this I needed to produce a range of products to promote their album and potential future tours which will include CD packaging/cover, tickets and promotional posters and tour promotion.

Research: As this brief required so many final solutions research took place a varying stages of the development and looked at existing products and styles that could translate well with my concept. Research was heavily based around flowers and script typefaces/branding as I felt this would best represent the attitudes and style of their new music. It is also the focus of their lyric ‘Hothouse’. I found that the visuals for these were brightly coloured and could creating interesting intertwined and fluid patterns and visuals which would look great when trying to convey the concept of collaboration and femininity.

Concept & ideas: The brand concept throughout is based around two elements coming together to create one completed image. A reflection of the two members in the band creating one complete and third voice. Supporting visuals are based around this idea but also of hothouse flowers as this is one of the key lyrics from their leading album track. This concept was explored within every element during the design stages.

Production: Brand logo was the first element designed and I decided to cut off the bottoms of the numbers and form the base with the last word to suggest this idea of two elements coming together to form a complete image. Similar to their existing logo and research carried out this uses a serif font so that it was more detailed and illustrated to compliment the flower patterns. The flower patterns were developed as part of experimentation and after a photo retake I was able to create a pattern which I felt was suitable to compliment the lyrics and concept. This was something which I went onto screen print so that I could practice the technique but also to introduce two strong colours, cyan and magenta, which would then overlay to form the violet colour. Again complimenting the concept of two elements coming together to create a third complete image but also the colour suggestion from the band name.
