Context Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease. Gluten, which is found in wheat, barley and rye triggers an immune reaction in people with coeliac disease. This means that eating gluten damages the lining of the small intestine. Other parts of the body may be affected. Consider how to present the information in an approachable, fun and understandable way to both children and their parents so that people are not afraid of discussing the issue.

Brief or Tasks Produce a typeface that communicates information to an audience of under 14s, the typeface must work in print and on web. Consider the use of the typeface in headlines in print as well as when used as an image.

Preparation/Research suggestions Look into typefaces that are aimed towards a younger audience and investigate illustrative letterforms as a way of engaging the under 14s when reading healthcare information. The research gathered on type for a younger audience should allow for an awareness of type as image and type as information for a young audience and their parents.

Evidence – for this project students should submit A working typeface complete with glyph set and numerals presented on 2 A2 boards. A set of typeface guidelines for it’s use in.
