Anatomy of a practice
Brief: The brief was to create a publication which would represent my context within my own practice from the past year. The publication needed to be personal to me and reflective but also be informative in the future.

Research: For the research I looked at a variety of sources of publication which I had collected randomly over the past year. From this I took inspiration from their use of colour, layout, type and folds translating this interest onto my own spreads. In the research stage I also collated the content which has had massive impact and informed my practice the most ready to be displayed within the pages.

Concept & ideas: The concept for the publication was to show the workings of my thinking and skills from the past year. It needed to include contextual references to areas of design which have influenced me especially typography and its role in branding, print and web. Also to include a personal section as a direct link to those elements that have effected my practice but aren’t design related. As the publication was to focus on the effect of typography I felt it was fitting to call the publication ‘Anatomy of a practice’ as a direct link to type principles but also to suggest the idea of this being the foundation and the basis of all my work, like type anatomy is. Also giving it a human personality to suggest it being personal to me. Binding choice is to be saddle stitch as a mechanism to show off skills I have enjoyed and built upon this year but also to visually represent atomy and the inner workings of a book and its basis.

Production: This was a stressful part of the design due to issues with print. The publication had to be re printed several times to get the correct colours and quality desired. Production of the bind was simple and easy to construct and accurately showed the concept of seeing the anatomy and workings of my design practice and love of craft and print.
