Brief: This brief was to produce branding for Leeds cat rescue and consider a range of products that could be used to promote the work of the charity to the relevant target audience. The current website and logo lacks aesthetic and is clear that the charity is voluntary run; so this needs to be addressed within the final solutions.

Research: Main focus for the research was to look at in detail what the charity website is currently like, what content it displays and what visuals it uses to do so. Alongside this I looked at competitive sites and how they use visuals to display similar content. I found that other organisations and charities used visuals that looked more corporate and engaging but still including a personal touch through use of photography. With this in mind I gathered suitable photographs of cats that could be used to illustrate the charities actions and needs. Engage the target audience instantly which is what lacks currently with the site. Other visual icons would be needed to act as part of the visual navigation to increase user-bility. Simplicity is key and found that this could translate well within the brand logo re design too. Keep visuals consistent is an element which I noticed in competitors examples.

Concept & ideas: The concept at the heart of the brand and re design was the logo. From research into icons I realised this was something which needed to be kept simple and subtle to look more professional and get across the name quickly and clearly. Make the charity more recognisable with ease. Also create an iconic shape which could be translated across products, both print and web, so the charity range could be clear. I achieved this by creating a concept which was based around re homing and the iconic shape of the cats ears and tail.

Production: Production was digitally based and was formed around the initial sketches which I did on the brand logo. By creating the logo in a square shape this allowed it to be easily placed on a number of products and formed the structure and grid/modular system of the web layout as I wanted the web to compliment the brand visual throughout. By spacing the layout like this it follows popular trends and is a visual approach to navigation which is good for the target audience because it is so specific to those interest and engaged with cats, clicking on the photos just because of their relevant content. A limited colour palette was chosen to introduce a more formal approach the brand message that followed their competitors. Yellow is also a strong colour used within danger but also Leeds. Contrasts well against the black higher legibility throughout.
