It can take a fair amount of time to settle into a new home and neighbourhood. Getting a pointer list from the previous owners about things that could be helpful is often a good idea - like which day is rubbish day, where the best places to eat are, closest playground or best schools in the area, doctors, dentists, lawn mowing contractors. If they have lived there for a few years they could be a fountain of knowledge to make your transition smoother. 2. Thinking of renovating? Good designers advise you to live in the property for 6 months before finalising your renovation plans. That way you may discover different ways to do the renovation and end up with a better result for your money. 3. Settle on any day other than Friday! Solicitors will only hand over the keys to your new property once all the t’s are crossed and the i’s dotted. Set your settlement date leaving a couple of days for hold ups or unforeseen hurdles. That way you don’t risk missing your weekend move and ending up disappointed.
