The MyPod Garden
The Mypod Garden The Show Garden The MyPod Garden is a show garden designed for and exhibiting at RHS Tatton Park Show in late July 2013, in honour of St. Gemma’s Hospice. As one in a team of seven, we have worked together, communicating effectively to produce a garden that has been specially selected and awarded a prime spot at Tatton Park by the RHS judges. Our innovative design is inspired by the Yorkshire landscape. The two-tier design responds to current issues affecting society, such as stress, climate change and increasing urbanisation, offering a vision of gardens for the future. In particular, our sustainable garden aims to offer an escape from the anxieties of modern day life, providing space for relaxation and recuperation, with interior therapeutic LED lighting and soft furnishings.

Low lying grasses reflect in the steel pathway components, softening the laser cut metal. Juncus usitatus filters water as it moves around the site, allowing the garden to respond to climate change and treat water on site. All plants should be thoroughly watered before planting and a mulch applied to hold moisture within the soil.

1:2 TYPICAL SECTION THROUGH POD, RETAINING WALL AND SLOPING PATH
40mm compacted washed clean stone sub base (20% voids). Dry stone wall facade (angled from 500mm wide base to 100mm capping stone against retaining wall). 30mm wide reed filtration rill with perforated drainage pipe.
Healing Garden

1:15 Perforated 80mm land drain with 100mm clean pea gravel above and below.
Compacted hardcore backfill
We are creating this garden for the healing and sanctuary of those families going through a terminal illness. After the RHS Tatton show, we will donate our garden for permanent installation on the grounds of St. Gemma’s Hospice for the benefit of all who visit there.
SEMI-EXPLODING AXON: SURFACE MATERIALS
Reinforced planting pot to be installed under specified holes (see planting plan), prior to installation of Sudscape recycled tyre base.
Axonometric model to illustrate 1:20 graduated slope in accordance with curve of path (represented by wireframe lines). Model gives indication of the appearance and finish of surface materials, with positioning of bespoke galvanised steel pieces.
10mm deep bespoke galvanised steel sheet sections with brushed finish.
20mm Sudscape porous resin bound aggregate topping.
30mm Sudscape bound recycled tyre base.
Holistic Design The path has been designed in response to the needs of all potential users. To be installed at St.Gemma’s Hospice, the central Pod must be accessible by wheelchair. The 1:20 curved path declines smoothly, dropping a metre below ground level into the entrance of the Pod.
10mm deep coloured bespoke poured resin disk. To be poured on site, into specified holes.
40mm compacted washed clean stone sub base.
NOTE: Steel sections should be set and fitted on a slight downwards slope towards central Pod to avoid sitting water. Resin should be poured to exact height of steel, to create a smooth, flush surface.
