ILS1: Introduction to Textual Analysis Seminar 1 ACTIVITY 6 Text: ‘Easter Wings’ Lord, who createdst man in wealth and store, Though foolishly he lost the same, Decaying more and more, Till he became Most poore: With thee O let me rise As larks, harmoniously, And sing this day thy victories: Then shall the fall further the flight in me. My tender age in sorrow did beginne: And still with sickness and shame Thou didst so punish sinne, That I became Most thinne. With thee Let me combine, And feel this day thy victorie: For, if I imp my wing on thine, Affliction shall advance the flight in me. ACTIVITY 7 The class splits into groups. Each group should take a different line, and add a second line to it (not necessarily in the same genre). They should then fold the paper over so that only the second line is visible, and pass it on to the next group. When all the groups have contributed a line, open up the folded page and read it aloud to the whole group. As a whole group, assess how far the six different texts follow the patterns for the various genres .
