What Is a Fashion Stylist? A fashion stylist is a job role of somebody who selects clothing for publishings such as newspapers, magazines, as well as advertising campaigns, editorial shoots, catalogues, fashion shows, celebrities, visual merchandising and display or can just act as a freelance.
A fashion stylist is expected to research and also naturally have a good knowledge of everything fashion related; including determining trends in fashion. For example, editorial stylists document seasonal collections such as the shows presented at New York, London, Milan and Paris. They analyze the collections and the details like the silhouettes, colours, prints and textures to then determine the key clothing trends to portray through styling and photography. Then with commercial projects, the stylists should have a good awareness of the brand and the consumer; also they usually have to work along a brief to achieve that project successfully. In general, the stylists should undertake other research methods; which could be anything from looking into art exhibitions, looking at street style imagery or even travelling and exploring around different cities and cultures. They also responsible for sourcing the clothes for the photo-shoots, shows etc, scouting the models and then maybe directing the actual photo-shoot itself. There are many aspects to fashion styling which people aren’t aware of.
Different roles of a Stylist There are many different roles in the fashion styling sector of the fashion industry, such as: • • • • • • • • • • •
Advertising Editorial Catalogues Newspapers Websites TV commercials Fashion shows Celebrity dressing Visual Merchandising and display Personal shoppper Freelance
I have chosen to look into 4 different areas: • Advertising - is all about communicating a message or a brand through imagery whilst following a brief. Also taking in account the publishing it’s going into - considering the target market to create a successful advertisement for that certain brand or company. • Editorial - are featured in magazines, which reflects the mood or outfit. Again, following a brief, linking in with the article to create a strong editorial fashion shoot. • Celebrity dressing - networking is a big part of celebrity dressing, also fashion styling in general, however celebrity stylists will have to build contacts with fashion designers and PR’s. It can include work for red carpet, photo-shoots, live shows etc. • Freelance - Freelancing can include different jobs from editorial to celebrity dressing, however has a risk of lack of work but it is a great opportunity to meet new people.

Principles of Styling There are many principles of styling to consider when looking into creating outfits. They include: co-ordination of garments, use of colour, fabric, texture, body silhouettes, suitable clothing for client (budget anf fit), use of accessories, and visual image (theme and story). It is important that if the stylist has to work along a brief, they shall consider the appropriate principles according to the clients.
Body Shapes
When it comes to styling, it is important that the stylists oncisder every clients body shape. There are many different types of shapes (images above), and every stylist should have this knowledge as their aim is to make a person look their best. Dressing different body shapes is about balancing the body to create the illusion of proportion. For example, the aim for a straight figure is to create curves, whereas an hourglass figure does the opposite. Each silhouette has different aims and challenges, however by the end of dressing, each stylist should leave their client feeling attractive and confident and knowing their body shape is the first step to that.
Rihanna
Rihanna is looking sophisticated on stage, performing in this casual shirt and trousers combo. However, Rihanna adds an edge to this outfit which the triangle leopard print bra worn as outerwear as well. I like this outfit, because of how Rihanna makes it her own with the bra and the red pointed toe stilettos, then the jewellery to finish it off. The shirt and trousers have become to look urban with the way it has been styled together and also the fact that Rihanna is wearing it makes it look edgy and urban.
This is probably one of my favourite outfits I’ve seen Rihanna in. This white suit is just perfect with her red hair and skin tone. The bright white makes her skin glow, the trousers lengthens her legs, as well as her nude heels which is a sly way to make your legs look longer or make you look taller.
Here are one of Rihanna’s street style outfits; I particularly like this outfit because it is unlike Rihanna, its a toned down outfit compared to her usual attire. It’s an outfit I’d call ‘casual chic’. Portraying that monochrome trend subtly with the black and white portrait jumper, black slit maxi skirt and her favourites - pointed toe heels (white).
Then, with a beautiful white suit like this, minimal accessories is best which is what Rihanna has gone for and this outfit is a perfect example of the phrase ‘less is more’. I like the whole co-ordination and the best outfit to wear with bright red hair. With her hair, she has kept it simple with toussled curls to keep that sophisticated look throughout; from top to bottom.
Co-ordination of Garments
In my opinion, I find that Rihanna has mixed and matched unsuccessfully with this outfit - if I was to style these garments, I definitely wouldn’t put them altogether in one outfit because of the wrong clash of pastels and brights. If I were to base this outfit on the oversized jumper itself; I would combine it with white high top trainers and wouldn’t add any head wear as the jumper is the focal point of this outfit so I wouldn’t use the bright pink cap to play as a distraction.
Even though denim on denim was a comeback trend from the 90’s; I think this outfit consists of too much denim. With this outfit, I would’ve got rid of the darkest denim and just pair together the light denim as it will create a good contrast with the black cap and black leather boots. Also then, the denim on denim trend will look more natural and matching.
I personally don’t like this outfit because it doesn’t flatter her shape or her age. The colours altogether don’t suit one another and the carrot shaped jeans don’t flatter her legs at all. This outfit makes Rihanna look a bigger size than she is. I would swap these jeans for a pair of black skinny jeans which then will match with the hat, as I think the jeans are the most unflattering piece of this outfit, also as she has a pear shaped figure, she needs to wear jeans which are a darker colour which are slimming.
On the other hand, I find that this outfit is too young for Rihanna’s age; especially the jacket. I just find that the jacket doesn’t suit the outfit. Re-styling the whole outfit, I would dress Rihanna in some high waisted light jeans then finish off the outfit with a leather jacket, as I think a more mature edginess suits her the best.
Co-ordination of Garments
Street Style
I love this outfit; portrays the current monochrome trend beautifully. I think the length of both the dress and blazer eccentuates her legs great, also the mix of vertical and horizontal stripes is successful with this outfit as the blazer makes your eyes travel down, therefore noticing all pieces of the outfit.
This outfit is just a perfect example of a sophisticated painter’s outfit with the dungarees, white shirt and beanie. The main pieces of this outfit are casual, however the way she has finished it off with a red blazer, pointed toe nude heels, and a red clutch, she has just transformed the whole outfit itself; which shows that mixing dress codes together, can create a beautiful result whilst being comfortable too.
With this outfit, she has taken layers to the extreme where she isn’t even noticeable herself. I find that this outfit drowns her and doesn’t flatter her at all. If I were to change this outfit, I would definitely not put her in that cropped fur jacket, I would slim down the top half and simply change it for a cropped leather jacket to match her leather bag. I’d then change her gloves for white leather gloves to match the t-shirt, so then she is matching, however not clashing.
I find the co-ordination of this outfit unsuccessful because of the amount of colours she has tried to put together. I think that it’s a bad mix of pastel colours. If I were to style these pieces myself, I would style them in seperate outfits. However if I were to base the outfit on trousers, I’d pair it with a plain white t-shirt witb gold accessories then match it with a white satchel. Then I’d finish it off with a pink wool cardigan.
Co-ordination of Garments
Rita Ora
I love this outfit because I think Rita Ora really suits that deep blue colour and even though the shoes would typically clash with the 2 shades of blue, this outfit actually combines together well without clashing too much. I find that this is one of Rita Ora’s best outfits because it’s one of her more simple outfits which she suits, along with bright colours.
I like how Rita Ora has portrayed this midi dress as casualwear. Keeping in mind the different colours on the dress, Rita Ora has cleverly chosen the right accessories such as her jewellery and headwear; to all match and create this bright but casual outfit.
I think Rita Ora’s most flattering colour is blue, different tones of blue; they just suit her hair colour and skin tone. This is one of Rita Ora’s successful outfits because even with her edgy style, she can still pull off that elegant look when needed. This dress is a beautiful shape which accentuates her figure and the pastel blue colour is the perfect tone of blue for this mermaid-like dress.
Use of Colour
Rita Ora Rita Ora usually suits blue tone clothing, however this blue PVC dress does no favours and clings to every curve of your body which isn’t attractive. I don’t think this is a performing outfit, and also the shoes don’t go well with this dress. If I were to keep something with this outfit, it would be the shoes then to keep that edgy Western American theme to the outfit, I would just style her in a simple blue, fringed playsuit as I think that is the best garment to wear on stage as it’s easy to perform in.
I don’t like this outfit on Rita Ora because the colour drowns her and doesn’t flatter her skin at all. Also there is just too much of one colour. I just wouldn’t put Rita Ora in an outfit like this as she is an edgy type of girl therefore this old fashioned elegance style doesn’t suit her. It’s too ‘frumpy’ and plain for her.
The colours all clash, the trousers and the jumper don’t accentuate her figure at all and make her look top heavy. If I were to change it, I would change the top to a simple white long sleeved crop top, with simply adding white plimsolls or converse to match with the trousers. Too many colours in one outfit never works, especially this outfit.
With this outfit, I understand that Rita Ora is trying to bring that 90’s vibe back with her outfit, however she has come about it wrong in my opinion. Due to her height, I wouldn’t place her into a dress like this, especially with big timbaland boots which just shorten her legs. All this outfit just looks harsh on her skin tone, also her hair colour.
Use of Colour
Street Style
Red and purple don’t usually go together, however I think that this outfit is successful. Usually clashing colours don’t work with smart outfits but this one in my opinion is lovely and sophisticated. The only negative I can think of, is that it clashes with her hair but that isn’t the main focus so it doesn’t matter as much.
I like this outfit because of the little touches of colour she has included, again, these colours don’t usually go well together but she has created a successful clash with this outfit. As prints and neon colours are in trend at the moment, just makes this outfit.
I think this outfit is a good outfit until it comes to the blazer, in my opinion, she has made the wrong choice of trying to add a pop of colour to an outfit. If I were to change this outfit, I would go for the 90’s double denim look and pair her shorts with a fitted denim jacket, a tone of a denim which would suit the shorts the best.
This is just a disastrous choice of colours, I understand that she has gone for all the ‘candy’ colours but to successfully portray that through pieces of this outft; I would keep the pink tights and yellow shoes but the rest is just a big clash and does nothing for her age. So therefore, I would just style her in an oversized white chiffon shirt to go with the pink tights and yellow shoes as white goes with everything.
Use of Colour
Justin Timberlake Only Justin Timberlake would suit something like this. I think that this outfit is successful because he has included bits that would look either ‘cheesey’ or ‘tacky’ but combined them with pieces to tone them down. He has kept with the monochrome look which I think is best and a great look for making a comeback appearance at The Brits. I really like his wet look blazer and the way he has kept it simple with black trousers, white shirt, oversized bow tie and black and white smart shoes.
I like this outfit because it’s just an old fashioned turn-out on his style. This certain type of tweed doesn’t usually suit most people as it will make them look too old. But with Justin Timberlake, due to his high profile in the music and acting industry, he is one of few individuals that suit it. I like the way this is styled, with a matching tie and white shirt because it makes this tweed suit look ‘normal’. He is risking something that may be critisized, but in my opinion, I think that this suit is smart and is very well styled.
Overall the use of fabric and textures in this outfit is successful and suits Justin Timberlake, according to his body shape, age and just adding that edge to his smart suit style.
Fabric & texture
Justin Timberlake
This is an example of denim on denim gone wrong. I know that this is a photograph from the 90’s where double denim was in but this is just exaggerating that trend unsuccessfully. I would just change the outfits in whole because the outfits is just an overuse of denim.
All the pieces of this outfit don’t match, such as, the jeans don’t flatter him. I would change the outfit to a monochrome outfit with a white shirt, black tie, I’d keep the cardigan then change the jeans to some black carrot shaped jeans as they will flatter his body shape more then keep the white trainers.
The different types of textures with this outfit is wrong and the rolled up jeans make Justin Timberlake look short, then the blazer doesn’t flatter him. If I could improve this outfit, I would tailor the blazer so it is more fitting, change the jeans into some simple black trousers to turn it into a smart outfit because I think that Justin Timberlake suits that type of style the best.
Fabric & texture
Street Style
Even though some people will find this as a weird and odd outfit, I actually quite like it because of the mixture of different fabrics and textures is successful. The way he has layred them to suit the style he’s aimed for, that deconstructed chic look.
Then this double denim outfit is a successful example of this trend. I like light denim together because it’s easier to match together than other tones of denim.
This outfit looks like a clown outfit in my opinion. The accesories clash the outfit and the texture of the trousers don’t suit the outfit at all, I would change it for some smart black trousers but other than that, I don’t mind the outfit as such because I do like the quirkyness of the combination of garments but the trousers just don’t suit the style of the outfit at all. I understand that he is going for a certain type of look but I like quirkyness with a sense of sophistication.
I think the combination of this outfit is wrong and just looks like a cartoon character. I wouldn’t keep anything with this outfit, I would just change this outfit into a smart outfit, and maybe keeping these colours if he wanted an outfit based around them.

Beyonce
• Tight waist belt encentuates her figure/ curves • Short top elongates her legs • Longer back hides curves over bum and doesn’t make it look bigger. • V-neck makes shoulders look less broad
• Sophisticated, not overdressed • Subtle monochrome • Cut of the sleeves flatters her arms and adds feminity to the outfit. • Trousers elongates her legs and makes them look thinner.
• Peplum style hides unwanted curves. • Tight bottom half to enhance the shape of her figure. • Fabric of the dress doesn’t cling to unwanted curves.
Body Silhouettes
Beyonce
• Shirt makes Beyonce look top heavy • Accessories don’t match • Creates an uneven silhoeutte which is unattractive • Doesn’t flatter her shape and doesn’t create a nice silhouette which is possible. • Shoulder detail makes shoulders look broad.
• Wet look leggings make her legs look bigger than they are • There is no shape with this outfit • Waistcoat is too tight on her chest and doesn’t fit to her body shape • Her body silhouette looks ‘frumpy’
• Colour doesn’t flatter curvy women, it clings to every curve of their body • The tie around the hips makes her look bigger as it adds more layers.
Body Silhouettes
Street Style
• The print distracts eye’s focus on her curvy figure • Black trousers makes her legs look slim
• The crop top shortens the look of her long torso • High waisted straight leg trousers elongates her legs • Outfit in whole flatters her body silhouette
• The bagginess of the outfit doesn’t flatter her curves • Vertical stripes are meant to enhance the body shape, however she has cut them off with short which makes her upper body look short • Shorts are too short and tight • Change to: fitted top, midi-skirt and heels to make her legs look longer.
• High waisted jeans don’t suit her boyish shaped body • Cardigan and baggy t-shirt doesn’t add any shape to it • Due to posture, she should wear clothes which will enhances her boyish shape. • Change to: normal skinny jeans (not high waisted), fitted t-shirt, military boots due to her style and a leather jacket.
Body Silhouettes
Millie Mackintosh • Hasn’t overdone accessories • Made a bright, vibrant dress look sophisticated • Equal styling with open shoes and high neck, cut out dress • The bag creates a good contrast with dark and light colours • White beaded collar isn’t overpowering, suits the look
• Accessories all match - all black • Maintains that sophistication throughout outfit • Hat and knee high boots make outfit look a little casual, so she doesn’t look overdressed. • Accessories are minimal and suits the orange shorts suit she is wearing.
• Necklace and bracelet matching • Whole outfit matches and stays within one colour, then she adds a bag to pop colour into the outfit
• Added detailed, vibrant clutch to a monochrome outfit, which adds interest to it as it is plain • Gold chain to match watch and subtly sections of the bag • Again, open toe shoes to create that equalness again
Use of Accessories
Street Style
• The colour of the accessories, dress and jacket are completely matching • Adding a bit of different with her black boots and cream hat • Clash of colours work together, even though in different concepts. • Sunglasses match the jacket and adds quirkyness to the outfit.
• Bag breaks the pink colour overloa • Black shoes and accessories carefully chosen to finish off outfit
• Bag doesn’t suit outfit • Shoes shorten legs • Change to - Navy bag to suit navy jumper underneath, and black heeled boots to elongate her legs
• Pirate look doesn’t work • The bag is too ‘normal’ and ‘girly’ to match this outfit • Too many layers • Shoes make feet look big
Use of Accessories
This is a good example of good styling when it comes to visual image, as each designer of these windows had to create a modern version of the traditional disney ball gowns. And them from their designs, these stunning Selfridges windows encentuates the gowns and creates that visual image and story through the clothing.

Harajuku Girls
Harajuku girls are known in Japan for telling a story through their outfits, and a good example are Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Girls. Above shows the different outfits they have worn when with Gwen Stefani, and each have a different theme. They do this as a form of art and expressing who they are in a story-like way. I thought this was a good example of visual image because most people see Harajuku Girls negatively, when in my opinion, I see it as a positive thing and that they should be noticed more for their individual sense of style and fashion.

Film and Photography For our final end of year show project, I was chosen to be part of the film and photography team. Therefore our focuses were to think about any film during the show, filming and photography of the show, ideas for any POS. My team conists of two other students, who will be assigned different jobs towards this job role of being part of the film and photography side of this project.
Shot by talented British director Amanda Boyle and starring Game of Thrones actress Natalia Tena alongside actor Alex McNally, the quirky short is certainly not your average catwalk production, focusing instead on the imaginative interaction between the two inhabitants of a Bethnal Green flat, and their relationship with the possessions that define them.

For the end of year fashion show, we are lookiing to create a short film to show before the 2nd half, as after an interval, the audience may be distracted therefore, this film will get them back focused into the fashion show. Our idea is to relate it to this Mulberry Skirt video, in a way that it has that unknown factor to it but it still tells a story. Having our theme ‘A New Dawn’, we’d like to link that into our film in a subtle way.
As our main theme is woodland, we looked into this advertisement, because it includes woodland but in a positive way, we don’t want our video to be depressing therefore looked into this for inspiration and ways to film our short video to suit our theme, as well as not depressing the audience.

Manchester University Meet your tutors One of the film and photography team came up with an idea to personalise our fashion show by creating our own name boards which will be shown in both the fashion show and exhibition. She got this inspiration from a pamphlet she received from Manchester University and thought it would be a good idea, as everybody can participate and input their own into the fashion show and exhibition. The brief idea is that everybody write their name onto some card, in anyway they’d like, to show off who they are and the creativity. It’s just something which isn’t too serious and will add a bit of life and personality to our end of year show and exbhibition.

Here is our initial sketched storyboard of a brief idea we came up with for our short film. The story is simple, it’s just showing a girl getting ready for a night out with her friend, going out, arguing and also meeting new people and in the end still together in the morning, which we thought reflects ‘A New Dawn’ and our college course in a film, because we have had conflict within this course, however in the end we always end up helping each other out and creating good outcomes through it all. We wanted to create a film which the both young and older audience will understand and enjoy, even if they don’t get the message.

Film No.2 Then, talking to the fashion show running team, they communicated across this film idea for the start of our Final Major Project section of the show at the end; which we agreed to work together on. The idea was to create an illusion within the fashion show, as if she was to disappear in the film and then re-appear on the runway. Also, we decided to edit the film to black and white to add that mysterious and eerie feel as that linked with the woodland theme and how we wanted our show to be a complete mystery to the audience. Here are some images of the filming and next page has final screenshots of the film, when doing this, we also had to think about the music that would not overpower the film but suit it and create certain effects to the audience to match the film.

Grey Gardens Film
For Grey Gardens film, I just collected recognisable images off the internet to create a slideshow film to run throughout the Grey Gardens section of the show. Also, instead of originally using the Grey Gardens soundtrack, we thought that it was too dull for a catwalk show and in comparison to the other songs in the show, it just won’t fit in. So then, I went to find a slow but upbeat track to play against the slideshow of images which I thought was most appropriate for what I wanted.

Invites
POS The POS team have to think about how to advertise the exhibition, also keeping in the mind the theme. Whether it is posters, leaflets etc, the students behind this team had to work together and get the word out of our exhibition. We are only advertising our Fashion Exhibition because our show is an invite-only show. On the left is our final poster for our exhibition which went out around the college. I do like the design and colour scheme of it, however I think it would have been better if we used our own illustration, or some student’s work to make it a bit personal. Because this is just an illustration off the internet, therefore for me doesn’t have that much of a meaning to our course. But the link between this and our theme, is just the colour scheme.
Social Media
The social media team have the responsibility of promoting our fashion show and exhibition through social networking sites; it’s their responsibility that all followers of each site we have joined are updated with latest news and updates of our project. The team brainstormed and thought which sites are really popular at the moment, and decided to choose to work on a twitter, facebook, tumblr and instagram, as those are the most common sites people go on and have as apps on their phone; therefore our news and updates are sure to be seen.
Social Media
Windows The windows promotion team had to look into different inspirations and influences to help them develop strong windows according to our theme. In the end, the windows promotion team came up with the initial ideas on the left which incorporates the theme within - time/clocks and woodland. They came up with this idea, as after researching all aspects of windows; they decided they wanted to create more theatrical displays which tells a story and to keep that mysterious and eerie feel to them to match altogether with our ‘New Dawn’ title.
Invites & Goodie Bags
Here are the final invites and goodie bags, these outcomes come from two seperate teams - the invites and external marketing team. As shown, they have focused on the theme and used the same image of woodland which has been used throughout the whole project to portray that mysterious and eerie feel. I like the simplicity of both outcomes and how both teams communicated with the whole group to come to an agreement to finalise these as they are. As a group, we didn’t want to giveaway too much with all our promotion and marketing sections because we wanted the show, as well as the exhibition to be a mystery; hence the woodland and blank rooms ideas. Unfortunately, the goodie bags weren’t actually done in time and we were unable to actually make them for the show. But here are the initial and finalised designs they came up with as a group.
Programmes The team who were responsible for the programmes is the ‘Show layout and show running team’ as they are deciding what order the show will be in, therefore shouldn’t inform anything incorrect, it should all be according to the show. When designing the programme, the team should consider the theme, and also receive correct information about each collection so the audience are clear about what is happening. A programme, in my opinion, is vital at a show because even though the show is invite only, we have also included plus 1’s, therefore at any show, people may attend where they will not know what is happening and a programme is there to inform them briefly. It is a helpful and quick way to explain a show and also avoid confusion during a show.
After communication with the rest of the group, we all agreed to one idea, and again to keep it simple but mysterious, they designed the programme behind the woodland theme and also kept with the same font to link it altogether. Not forgetting that we are representing our college, they included the logo on the back page to finish off. With the descriptions inside, they briefly wrote a small summary of each collection and the designers behind each outfit going down the catwalk, however with our main focus being the final major project work; the show team asked for personal descriptions from the designers themselves and written them in because each designer had a different themed collection therefore we had to make it clear what was going to be on the catwalk for each person.
Layout Here is our initial idea for a layout for our fashion show. Both the film and photography and the show running team came together to think of ideas for the show; and our main focus was to be creative and think about how we can change the reputation of college shows. So we came up with this idea of having a square shaped fashion show where the audience will then be sat in the middle and the back - we came up with this idea by looking into more high fashion runway shows, however we didn’t want to live up to that expectation. We just wanted to have that individual feel to our show and also with our mystery idea, we wanted to properly surprise our audience attending an end of college fashion show.
Initial running order of the fashion show. However there were changes to the breaks inbetween each collection - with films and music etc.
Rehearsals
Layout
Unfortunately, when showing our ideas across to the rest of the group, we were out voted with the square idea, the rest of the group wanted to keep it simple with a straight runway, however we didn’t think that was strong enough, so with combining both ideas, we came up with a T-shaped runway that we all agreed to. Even though having done rehearsals with the square and successfully working out timings, we unfortunately had repeat that but work out timings with a T-shaped runway. Luckily enough, the timings were similar and the music we chose for the runway just needed a few changes. Then afterwards, the team had to work out seating according to how many people we have invited/will be attending; and we came up with having 16 seats on each sde, leaving a gap inbetween for easy access then the same against the top of the T.
Layout
Here is our final layout of the runway and the chairs. In our rehearsals, we used masking tape to mark the T-shape, however we didn’t like the look of it, so instead we replaced the masking tape with candles, we did this to clearly guide the models of the shape of our runway. We believe that this created a more homely feel and our aim to for our audience to feel comfortable whilst viewing our fashion show. Unfortunately, due to the film being on the T-wall, we couldn’t go with having 2 sets of 16 seats on each side, so we just had one row on the right side but added extra stools behind just incase, people had invited more than planned. I do like the final layout and think that it suits that eerie theme we’ve chosen - the candles especially.

Model Scouting
A main challenge we had with our project was finding models, as we kept getting cancellations. So me and one of the members of the show running team decided to go around college and scout for some models. Luckily we were able to find some (shown on the left) and all luckily could commit to the days we needed them. Unfortunately, we were unable to find all the models we need to we had to carry on scouting out of college, and in the end, we found more than enough models for our show.
Rehearsals
Here are images from our first rehearsal together with some of the models, which was where we worked out walks, timings and who can wear what.
Exhibition The ‘Show layout and Show running’ team were behind the exhibition. To inspire them, they looked into different exhibitions. The theme was based around a white empty space to block it off from the rest of the room. They found a photo-shoot that inspired them so from that, they wanted to keep it simple with each person having their own space whilst linking it altogether with the class moodboard. The projects chosen to display are ‘Grey Gardens’, ‘Joy Division’, ‘Final Major Project’ then also including our portfolio; for each person, there will be a mannequin to display any garment that student chooses to show off. Then to personalise each student’s displau, there will be our photo-card photographs and chosen quotes will be displayed, which was meant to be simple with a vintage feel which comes through the wooden stands and the photos will be display on brown string and pegs. Then, there will be a table in the centre of this area which will have black boxes on it consisting of a couple of projects, which will be shut with a name tag on them.. which creates that mysterious look to them but the way they have chosen to inform people that they are welcome to have a look around, we displayed a sign with ‘A New Dawn’ on it then a table stand with a note saying ‘feel free to have a look through the boxes’. The aim of this exhibition was to have our own section in the college, close it off and just make sure when somebody is looking around, that they have a lot to focus on and won’t be distracted by anything else around, which is the empty space idea. Also another aim was to show off each student’s best work and personalise their displays to them and how they’d like it, because everybody is different etc.
Final Exhibition
I really like the final outcome of the exhibition because even though we couldn’t exactly close off the room, the show running team were able to create that illusion with the mannequins and available boards we were able to use. Also I like how it doesn’t look too official and each of the displays are personal to us - that is also something we wanted to make sure, that everything is personal to the group and we are all happy with each decision we make about every display and concept of the fashion show.

The Final Day
Final preparations of the fashion show included seperating all the garments and accessories into sections for the dressers, switching on the candles, displaying all the programmes, setting the lighting, making sure all models are there, making sure we have enough make-up and hair people and just completing final touches to the show and exhibition - all this to smoothly and successfully run both on that night.

FMP
Joy Division
Here are final images of my models for my Joy Division and Grey Gardens styling. I based my styling for my Joy Division on my photo-shoot I did and displaying in the exhibition, then with Mikayla’s final FMP outfits, I was able to style them accessories-wise but when it came to hair and make-up, I had to simplify it due to the timings between the shows. But I still kept that messy elegance to the hair and make-up. However, with her feather dress, I was able to use the dark eyes to suit with the ‘Swan Lake’ theme. But the rest, I just improvised from what I was thinking and have on my moodboards.
The Final Day
Grey Gardens
Here are final photographs of the models for both my Grey Gardens collections I had to style. Again, I had to improvise a little with my ideas because of the timing and the fact that Hannah (blonde/blue hair) was in all 4 shows, I wasn’t able to do the hair and make-up I wanted for Sophie’s collection. However that didn’t bother me because, in the end, the focus are the garments at a fashion show. But then with Mikayla’s Grey Garden’s outfit, as the model was only in FMP and only had subtle dark eyes, I was able to use the same make-up for Grey Gardens.

Evaluation Evaluation
In my opinion, I believe that this project was a great way to end my time at college. It was another group project, which us students didn’t think would work out well due to the amount of different opinions and views we have in this group, but it was a totally different outcome and we were able to work together and produce a great final outcome that personally, I am proud of because not only did we stick to our team responsibilities, we all helped each other out, and as a group put all our creativity together to have a successful final group project. I like how this project was a styling project, but in the end also included different aspects of the industry by having to organise a fashion show and exhibition. Even though our group had the typical disagreements, we were actually able to work as a group, and produce strong outcomes from each of the different teams we were put into. The project in a whole was to develop a clearer understanding in ‘fashion styling’ and portray that across through our fashion show. And I think that I have successfully done so, however simple or different the styling was, I think that every outfit that came down the runway looked great. What went well? I personally think that every part of the project has gone well, the fashion show was a success and received great feedback for it and all the models chosen suited all the different outfits they were assigned to, and each of the themes were put across clearly to a personal level. Then with the exhibition, the idea was subtly put across with the materials and facilities we had available to use, and in the end produced beautiful displays for each student; the main thing I’ve noticed and appreciated is that every student is counted and has their own personal touch to anything they are part of - e.g. exhibition displays photo-card shots, own quote and strongest work which we wanted to display. Also, going back to focus on my area of this project ‘Film and Photography’ - I think that with the knowledge of film and photography, and the creativity of the team; we were actually able to produce two short films which we actually have never done before. However, the only downside is that we weren’t able to film a few scenes from the first film (night out) because of the night itself and the lack of actors in the film. But I still really like all the films and I think successfully added just a little something to the fashion show. What improvements? Honestly, there weren’t many issues, just disagreements due to our different views and opinions towards things but in the end, we were all able to agree on something. If I were to pinpoint something I’d change about this project is the POS, because I think that everything links in clearly and is personal to us or has that mysterious/eerie feel to it, but I don’t believe the POS achieved that - I would use a student’s illustration so it is more personal to us, again... linking it altogether. Also, just something personal to myself - I’d change my photograph and board as I wasn’t keen on that but that isn’t crucial but it would be something to improve. What have I enjoyed the most? I very much enjoyed filming the first short video (inspired by Mulberry Skirt) because it was something I’d never done before and it was just a fun thing to film all in all; also there weren’t any disagreements and we were able to film is easily without having to change much. I have honestly enjoyed all of this project, no matter how stressful it got sometimes, it was yet another good Live Project to do as a group and then see what outcomes we come out with. I’ve really appreciated how each section of the final outcome has that bit of personality to it, as a group, we didn’t want to take this last project to do together so seriously, hence why we decided to add personal touches to things such as the exhibition and the ‘Final Major Project’ film. As I say always, it’s been both challenging but enjoyable and if I were to do it again, I wouldn’t change anything. Overall, I’m glad and hope that everybody else agrees, that we are able to walk away from college on a positive note after this successful group project. I have developed a different outlook on ‘Fashion Styling’ and have actually enjoyed the last part of the project the most, because of the amount of practical work there was - which is what I prefer.
