Ichan Motor is a car workshop located in the commercial area of Gedong Panjang, West Jakarta, situated between the harbor and the old city center of Jakarta. In the beginning of 16th century the Gedong Panjang area along the Kali Jelakeng has functioned as commercial area and residential area used mainly by the European and Chinese people. After the the Chinese Massacre and the passing of Agricultural law in the 1740s, its function shifted solely to commercial area, specializing in private business and financial area. Most of the warehouses along the river banks were for private business and vastly different than the bigger warehouses near the East Bank of Ciliwung which were used to store bigger cargo from Sunda Kelapa harbor.
