Each home is an opportunity to reflect your personality and style. We look forward to creating a beautiful space that aligns with the way you live.

In these next pages, our process is outlined to better understand how we approach the design of your custom home. The process is a combination of creative dreaming and organized detail to produce a design that is timeless, comfortable, and reflects your unique lifestyle.

Our team is dedicated to providing a seamless experience with a beautiful end result to last a lifetime: This is your home.

Our PHILOSOPHY

Engaging all of the senses, we create spaces for a life well-lived.

We emphasize fine craftsmanship in every selection as it promotes sustainability. Building well leads ultimately to building less, diminishing environmental impact. We take pride in the distinct artistry of each project, rejoicing in the rich diversity of our clients dreams and our mutual intuitions.

Our PROCESS

01 | Research

Before we begin your project, it’s important for us to get to know you, your family, your lifestyle, and your preferences.

Please provide the following:

• Interiors Wishlist

• Inspiration Photos

Watch your inbox for an invitation to a shared photo stream + client wishlist document.

Once we receive these items, we’ll schedule your in-office Design Kickoff Meeting to officially begin the interior design phase, and set the tone for your home.

02 | Concept Design

After our kickoff meeting, our designers will develop a preliminary design concept to set the overall look and feel for your home. We will reach out to schedule your concept meeting.

Using inspiration images and drawings, we’ll share what we envision for each space.

We’ll incorporate your feedback from your Concept Meeting so we can move into the detailed design phase with a clear direction.

03 | Design Development & Material Selections

Once the Concept Design is approved, we’ll schedule Selections Meetings with our preferred vendors. During these meetings, we’ll guide you in selecting plumbing fixtures, appliances, countertops, flooring, hardware, cabinetry, and more.

When selections are finalized, we add them to the Specification Schedule for your builder, with an updated interiors construction set.

04 | Detailed Design

Once the Schematic Design has been approved and material finishes have been selected, our team begins working on your detailed design plans. While creating a beautiful design, our team focuses on the scale, consistency in finishes and performance of each selection that is presented. When the design is ready, we invite you into our office for your Design Presentation.

During your presentation, we will view furniture plans, lookbooks, samples, elevations, and tearsheets for the items selected for your home.

We ask that you have any revisions to us in one or two weeks so we can make sure you love the design. We will be sure to incorporate all of your thoughts and revisions in the revised design.

05 | Project Management

Once the designs are approved and your furniture invoices have been paid, we begin purchasing, tracking, and double-checking that each piece arrives correctly at the receiving warehouse.

We’ll be in close contact with your contractor to ensure every detail is executed and everything is running smoothly. Your contract details the number of site visits included.

It may seem quiet during this phase, but our team will be hard at work managing all the important details.

06 | Installation

The final phase is where the magic happens - your installation! We coordinate the delivery of all items ordered through Starr Sanford Design and are on-site for your install days to ensure everything is in its place. We bring accessories selected specifically for you to add the finishing touches to tie it all together, leaving you with a complete space ready to enjoy.

In the event we are photographing your space, we’ll notify you in advance and take care of all the details.

Our COMMUNICATION

You and your project will benefit from the input and collaboration of our entire team. With in-office meetings and scheduled calls and site visits, the research and concept design phase is very collaborative. and we welcome your feedback. We outline your project schedule at your Kickoff Meeting.

During business hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, you can always expect a response to your emails within one day. We ask that you limit communication to email so the whole team is apprised of all activity and updates related to your project.

Throughout the design process, you’ll receive updates as well as detailed timelines so you know when we need feedback and approvals from you.

Generally, we’ll ask for feedback and revisions within one week of presenting. Our team is conscientious of keeping the project moving forward with lead times and project timeline in mind.

Revisions are outlined in your proposal.
