Research of history from visit

Evaluation of the place location review: The site was complete mess of random buildings. Old buildings mixed with newer modern but recycled container buildings such as the blue one and the yellow container city. The colours really didn’t fit together and made everything look like it had just been left there to use space. The actual lighthouse had little emphasis with plaque's here and there but not really standing out to be read like most historical sites. To a point where many people missed them completely. Not much of the actual history remained and it felt as if the other buildings were trying to hide and distract you from the remaining lighthouse as if it were a disappointment they had had to leave as it was. Therefore in conclusion the location was definitely in need of a revamp and could do with some more emphasis on the history or at least theme of the location rather than silly metal sculptures dotted around as another distraction. Finally there was also so much space for parking for no reason. So much more space could be effectively utilised.

Millennium Park in Chicago Evaluation: Millennium park is a great open green space with sleek modern structures integrated. The snake like bridge gives safe refuge across a large road to the other side of the park. The bean is very unique object and would entice people to come and visit it from across the world. At night however the field becomes an arena suitable for concerts with a very different atmosphere. I would like to incorporate a multi purpose environment into my design.

The gardens are inspired by nature however have an unearthly surreal quality to them. Similar to the film Avatar, the use of subtle lights amongst structural architecture is very effective for casting a different evening atmosphere. Visitors can travel across the high walkway to experience a completely new level and perspective on the area. I have considered using multi levels in my design however there are constraints with my brief.

Pavilion ideas research • Sail, tensile shelter • Permanent, geometric shelter • Hawaiian straw beach huts, tropical fast-food bar Straw hut idea fits with the pirate theme and aesthetics, but does it fit in or stand out too much in comparison to the other architecture / current buildings. In conclusion, I did decide to go with Hawaiian style Tikki huts for the snack huts

I ended up choosing design idea no.3 because of the shell design

These were my experimental first shell shaped design for the restaurant roof, on SketchUp. In the end I decided to make a simpler one for the final piece to more easily replicate. However this was still an important part of the process

Design specification: • I successfully created a daytime and an evening environment for drawing two different kinds of clients together. During the day, mainly families with young children will use the facilities; including the adventure play area sand pit and many food choices of different price ranges. Snack huts, fast food, diner and the stylish sushi restaurant. Evening customers will be drawn by the ambient riverside bars and cocktails. Tikki torches and straw snack huts give visitors a chance to get lost in the Hawaiian themed environment. The sushi bar, with top class chefs would attract romantic couples dining as well as being available for VIP personal functions such as weddings and corporate events. In light of the pandemic, this venue could be an alternative location for an expensive wedding abroad. With the 02, the cable car and the Cutty Sark being just around the corner, this will attract families and could potentially be a business venture for package deals and loyalty cards. • The fast-food diner, under the pavilion shaped like waves, is protected from the elements while also maintaining a great view of the river and 02. Also doubling as an area for the kids club and pirate play theatre for child entertainment. • Since disabled accessibility was a key factor on the brief, I have made sure there are ramps to decking wherever necessary and there is a lift in the interior of the restaurant for access to the sushi bar and professional venue. • I would have liked to incorporate an amazing sensory play garden, taking inspiration from Singapore's gardens by the bay. However, I have prioritized and decided to maximize the children's adventure play pit. This includes; shipwrecked boat, portholes, cargo nets, climbing walls, rope swings, wobbly bridge. My inspiration for this, definitely came from the Diana memorial gardens where I used to go to every year as a child. • There is also potential to partner up, with the sea-life centre to sponsor a rock pool / meet and greet the creatures or get the natural history museum to sponsor a fossil dig.
