Personal Statement
Background of Growth
My name is Li-Hsuan, Hung. I was raised by my grandparents in the countryside, and that made me a person with active, independent and inquisitive personality.
Learning Process
As a student studying in urban planning, the sophisticated city system was hard for me to understand in the beginning. In my sophomore
year, the book Language Pattern gave me another conception to observe the space with void, solid and building type. It’s just like the sign which reveals the signifier and signified of the space. For example, different spaces construct with different types of void and solid that guide the people to act the way they imply. In addition, different building types emerge different things such as culture or history that make people feel different emotion or thought in spaces. As a bigger scale, the city also does the same way. Tainan was the first capital city of Taiwan in history, and there still remains a lot of ancient buildings nowadays. As living here for over 20 years, I was deeply influenced by the environment and always care about the remains and historical sites in a city. In my opinion, these objects are the properties of the culture, the history and the effect of activities. Most importantly, the historic buildings are irreversible if they were wrecked. However, through the articles and the news we could see that so many valuable historic buildings were constantly destroyed under the development of land. And I can’t stop wondering that,“how do people think about these properties, and why do the companies treat them like that in Taiwan?”
Activities and Experiences To find out the answers, I started to involve in a lot of groups and study in real estate and economy to acquire different point of views, such as NCKU Student Union, TEDxTainan, and Soulife Hauxing. Meanwhile, I’d always love to grasp the opportunities to participate as many workshops and competitions as possible in my spare time. In addition, I joined the College Student Research Scholarship(NSC) in July 2017, and my topic was “Reversion on Real Property Depreciation of Historic Buildings in Tainan City, Central and Western District.” All of the experience above help me to understand how people think with their different professions and their viewpoints.
Future Plan
During my student’s life in the university, I have developed many skills of urban planning, especially in the studio course “Urban Plan-
ning and Design Practice”. It allowed me to get hands-on experience, so I could handle the job of my internship in my junior and senior year. However, I am still curious if there are other methods or strategies could make a city better. Though I have gotten the admission qualifications of Postgraduate from National Taiwan University and National Cheng Kung University, which are the highest and second seats of schools in Taiwan, I hope I could enroll in the school of the United Kingdom. In this country, I would like to broaden my horizon and goal to figure out how a city with long history keeps the balance between development and regeneration.

Urban Design Practice Purpose
Process
This multiple student project conceptualizes collaborative large scale design for an urban stretch. The collaborative nature of this project emphasizes how individual planners could work together in order to bring together disparate interests and create a cohesive overall plan.
Step 1: Refined hometown image into simpler components Tainan city

Step 2: matched each hometown component by natually flowing into neighboring segments to create a new vision of a district.
Step 3: matched three distrect by flowing each neighboring segments to ceate a new vision of a city and made it a narrative cohesive.
Master Plan
In the final iteration of this project, we showed that how this plan evolved around a river by connecting three different districtspast and future, via road and bridge. The focus of the project was to achieve an interesting overall narrative while preserving the unique individual characteristics of each segment.
District Development Design -Tainan Posthouse Purpose The project took a site in the central of Tainan city and attempred to reorient the distrct vision by Railway Underground Project planning by government. In order to achieve the city sewing that railway had seperated the districts of east and west for decades, we proposed building greenbelts and new commercial centers in the transportation hub.
By connecting the train station and sewing the district seperated by the railway, we could settle the barrier of comercial activity. In order to remain the charateristc of Tainan city- the organic urban fabric, our team tried to integrate the pattern language of Tainan city into our design project and wish could bring the tourists and the inhabitants entrance images of Tainan city.

This project made us think deeply that the city seriously affect the people who live in or pass by. Building types, urban fabric and open spaces make people feel different. 03 Urban District Overall Review
-Sinying Urban District Planning Introduction
This project is a review of the renewal project of the Sinying district. Our main approach takes findings from Master-plan specifications about the vision of "Science Park" and "Green City". These plans reveal that the main center of research and development area is in Sinying city. However, Sinying lost a lot of resources by the policy "Relocate county government". We wanted to strengthen its advantage about its location by combining with the districts nearby.

As a intern of the real estate department in the most powerful insurence company - Cathay Life Insurance Company, I spent a month to lead a commercial land development project in Tauyuan which My manager wanted me to show my ability of urban planning and creativity.
