REFLECTION
Winter Quarter was really quite the rollercoater ride. It was harder
than Fall quarter by far, though I am relatively new to
the college life.
Due to my experience in Architecture last quarter, I thought this quarter would be easier. As time went on, each project pushed me more and more to become better than the last project, which is why it felt harder than last quarter, but it was well worth the pain in the end. I thoroughly enjoyed every project, as they were all learning experiences that assisted to get me to where I am today as an architect.
My favorite project this quarter had to be paraSITE. At first, my
group struggled with our concepts and we couldn’t really get along. As time passed, we began to gel and work together better, and it soon become one of the most fun projects I’ve ever had at Cal Poly. ParaSITE taught me traits of of thinking outside the box and teamwork, and
those are
some things that I can only gain through the trial and error of
the experiences I went through, am I am glad for those struggles. From the work of Drawing Haus, I learned how each layer plays a significant role in the making of an object, and how each little detail is important. Through the project Secret Compartment, I gained a different outlook on objects that I ordinarily thought were basic. They became more than just shapes. They became complex details that could be formed into something greater. With that knowledge, I learned that everything in this world has meaning to an architect, we just have to explore and learn from it, and I think that’s an amazing concept.
This quarter, I was very thankful for the insight that Professor
Washington gave me and my classmates who I had to experience ARCH 132 with. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be here in the great program, and for everything I have learned from it, but I’m ready for the next step. With two quarters under my belt, I’m prepared for the trials next quarter has to offer for me, and I’m ready to accept the challenge of ARCH 133. -
