1. Locate and double click on the SMART Notebook icon on the Desktop.
(Figure 1-1) 2. The SMART Notebook software will open on to the screen. This screen works similar to PowerPoint.
(Figure 1-2) 3. The main areas that will be used are the tool bar at the top of the page and the right panel. The right panel may be on the left on some computers (See Figure 1-2). It can be dragged to either side of the screen.
(Figure 1-3) 4. The first button on the toolbar is for a new document.
(Figure 1-4) 5. To Open a previous document, click on the button with a folder on it (See Figure 1-5).

(Figure 1-5) 6. To Save a current document, click on the button with the diskette on it (See Figure 1-6)
(Figure 1-6) 7. To Paste an image, click on the button with the clipboard (See Figure 1-7). If you copy an image or press the Print Screen Key on the keyboard, clicking the Paste button will add it the document.
(Figure 1-7) 8. When the Zoom button is selected, a dropdown button appears (See Figure 1-8). There are several options to chose from.
(Figure 1-8) 9. If a mistake is made, click on the left pointing arrow button to undo the action.
(Figure 1-9) 10. If you undo an action the was needed, click on the right facing arrow button.
(Figure 1-10) 11. To delete an item, select the item with your mouse and press the red X button (See Figure 1-11). If the wrong item is deleted,

(Figure 1-11) 12. Once multiple pages have been created, the previous page button will become active (See Figuure 1-12). This button will allow the user to move back to previous pages.
(Figure 1-12) 13. As with the previous button, the Next Page button will move forward through the pages.
(Figure 1-13) 14. To Insert a New page, click on the page button with a plus on it.
(Figure 1-14) 15. The Screen Shade button will bring up the shade to hide the page from being viewed.
(Figure 1-15) 16. The Full Screen button reduces the size of the toolbars to allows space usage to be maximized (See Figure 1-16).
(Figure 1-16) 17. The Screen Capture button launches the toolbar to allow snapshots to be taken of your computer screen (See Figure 1-16).
(Figure 1-17) 18. The Select button changes the mouse from pen mode back to the mouse pointer (See Figure 1-18). This allows the selection of documents and icons. If the pointer was left in pen mode, when the screen was touched it would be a pen stroke (See Pen Tutorial Page for more information).

(Figure 1-18) 19. When the Pen button is selected, the mouse or stylus will be a writing implement (See Figure 1-19).
(Figure 1-19) 20. The Creative Pen button works in the same fashion that the Pen button does. When it is select the creative pen is active (See Figure 1-20).
(Figure 1-20) 21. The Eraser button works exactly like a chalkboard eraser. Select the Eraser button and erase content with the mouse or stylus (See Figure 1-21).
(Figure 1-21) 22. The Straight Line button allows straight lines to be drawn on the screen (See Figure 1-22). The button will stay active until another button is pressed. The straight line function works very well for labeling pictures from the gallery.
(Figure 1-22) 23. The shape button allows the user to select a shape and add it to the canvas space (See Figure 1-23). These shapes can be what ever scale that is required.
(Figure 1-23) 24. When the Text button is selected, a text box will appear (See Figure 1-24). Normal Text will be typed on to the screen.

(Figure 1-24) 25. When the Set Tool Color button is selected, a color palette will appear. This will change the color of the pen hen the pen button is selected.
(Figure 1-25) 26. When the Set Tool Thickness button is selected,
(Figure 1-26) 27. The Set Transparency button allows lines to be drawn in different gradients (See Figure 1-27). This can be used with Pen button and the Straight Line buttons.
(Figure 1-27) 28. There are different types of line that can be drawn on the screen. These line types can be only used in conjunction with the Pen button.
(Figure 1-28) 29. On the side of the screen the is a tabbed area. The tabs are labeled Page Sorter, Gallery, and Attachment. The Page Sorter works with the New Page, Next Page and Previous Page buttons. This will show the order of the pages as they are created.
