Nathan Williams Autodesk Alias Portfolio 2013
Working with Autodesk Alias and Showcase was only a small part of my experience as an Automotive Design student at Swansea but it has become an integral part of my design process. Although I received some very basic tuition I am primarily self taught on both programs. www.nathwilliams.co.uk design@nathwilliams.co.uk
Senintel Rescue Vehicle - 2013 The Sentinel was completed in Alias between February and March 2013 as past of my major project at Swansea Metropolitan University. The vehicle has multiple configurations so the intention from the start was to model components seperately to allow easy visualisation of modular alterations and construction.
The vehicle comprises of a mix of simple surfaced and quite complex forms allowing me to gain experience in modelling more lifelike details such as the positioning of the winch hook and the leather surround for the cable.
This was also the first model in which I was able to work on more intricate details such as suspension components, the deep set hydraulic logo at the front and small componentry within the wheel/track construction.
I make extensive use of wireframes created on Alias at the beginning of a project. By using them as an underlay I can ensure that my design meets the packaging requirements set by the brief. Later by using Showcase I spent time checking the project looks correct in its component form.
Westfield Aero - 2012
The Westfield Aero was the result of a live project set by SMU and Westfield Cars. During the later stages of the project students were split into groups, each with their own tasks. Among other tasks I was in charge of the Alias model.
ARC - 2012
Due to the short deadlines involved in this project Alias was primarily used for packaging reasons though the model did feature later in the project for some visualisation.
Apple iSync - 2010
This was my first attempt at using Alias for a project, although the overall shape was simple there were a few more complex surfaces which allowed me to begin experimenting with the program.
