Happy New Year to all CPDLeaders!

Dear colleagues Welcome back after the festive break! Here is the first quick CPDLead update of 2012 which will hopefully be helpful for you in planning and shaping your CPD activities for the forthcoming term.

Who’s new? Firstly, a very warm welcome to our newest members – we’re really pleased you’ve joined us! Fiona Smyth, Klaus Mayer, Jill Kennedy, Alastair Seaman, Kirstin McNeill, Kerry Crichton, Barbara Sefton, Dorothy Gebbie, Valerie Miller, Stephanie Farqhuarson, Linda Cairns, Alan McCullough, Ewan Stewart, Carole Nel, Martin Frame, Jean Devlin and Roland Peck, many of whom have joined via the affiliated community for South Lanarkshire CPDleaders. The SLC CPDLeaders’ community materialised out of a series of authority meetings to which Con & I were invited – if you’re interested in finding out more about affiliating a local authority CPDLead community into this national community, read the guide on CPDCentral What’s new? Our i-share area has received a great boost in the last few weeks – Ruth, our administrator has been working hard transferring some archive insights, interesting practice, documents, presentations, videos and links to research from our last Summer School 2010 on system-wide change. This is a really fruitful area for CPDLeaders, so please have a look to see if there is something which tunes in with your CPD focus for this term. Featured resource:

New to i-share, this short, snappy video from Richard Elmore on the 3 ways to increase learning and performance. One is to increase the knowledge and skill of teachers. The other is to somehow affect content. And the third is to somehow alter the relationship of the student to the teacher and the content. It’s accessible, short and directly addresses the impact on learning question. Definitely worth sharing and discussing with colleagues as a CPD opportunity.

Community activities Jean Ward, CPDLeader in Orkney has been making good use of our CPDShorts by organising a series of discussion lunches for colleagues. Find out more on our blog…..

Online CPD update If you want to have a look at available CPDShorts and other online CPD opportunities to develop something similar in your setting, there is a handy online CPD Summary with all the latest for CPDLeaders from CPDFind and from our own activities, as well as relevant CPDShorts and challenges. We have recently added all the available HMIE Learning Together documents to this catalogue - have a go and let us know how you get on! And lastly…..CPDMeet 43…. ……..will be happening on Monday 16th of January at 4pm. This is the first CPDMeet to happen as a result of CPDRequest and you can sign up to take part- find out more. Please circulate to interested colleagues.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any CPD news or activities you’d like to share on our community, and please pass this newsletter on to any colleagues you think might be interested. With best wishes,
