Families can immerse themselves in the world of Heidi and Peter, active visitors are out and about between the mountains and lake on foot or mountain bike and recuperate in the restorative thermal waters, and lovers of the good life enjoy the many Torkels (wine cellar), more than a dozen gourmet restaurants and the local culture. In winter the snow sports resorts of Flumserberg and Pizol, with over 100 km of pistes, are breathtaking. The Heidiland holiday region in eastern Switzerland is encircled by high mountains and is easy to get to. Clear air, imposing mountains and warm hospitality. The Walensee Lake, the rugged Churfirsten mountain range, the Glarner Alps on the horizon, the vineyards in the Bündner Herrschaft and above all the legendary Heidi story which still charms today can all be found in the Heidiland holiday region.

Jeff: «We met some nice people on the ride on the Älplibahn and then, high above Malans, found a small piece of paradise. It was simply a wonderful day!» Susi: «I went to visit Heidi’s house in Maienfeld. Goats, the Heidi village and Heidi alp all brought back memories of my childhood.» Patrick: «I didn’t really know the Bündner Herrschaft as a wine-growing area. Since walking CHUR through the vineyards myself, talking to local winemakers and tasting their excellent wines, I’m impressed…» Julia: «I received a gourmet tour in the Bündner Herrschaft from my husband as a present. TRIMMIS We rode on electric bikes through the vineyards from restaurant to restaurant. It was a lovely surprise.» Rainer: «Eat like God in France? God was never in the Bündner Herrschaft then...»

Gerda: «Who says walking is boring? The 7 peaks and 14 lake views hike I did today offered absolute variety.»

David: «Brrr, it was cold today on the Pizol. Luckily there is the Tamina thermal spa. 36.5° warm water does you good, as does a delicious dinner. I can recommend the restaurants in the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.»

Anna: «The CLiiMBER climbing tower is great. Quite exciting sometimes. TödiNow I’m looking forward to the FLOOMZER summer toboggan ride tomorrow.»

Annika: «In the Tamina ravine, there are sheer rock walls left and right and in the middle the Ringelspitz hot thermal spring. It gave me goosebumps.»

Hans: «Equipped with background material we explored the “places of power” in the old church in Flums, St. Justus, and the Kopfwehloch (headache hole) in Berschis. They made quite an impression.»

Philippe: «I didn’t come across Pizol any ghosts but learned lots about the area. Sargans Castle is always worth a visit...»

Susan: «What prompts someone to spend 25 years working on a piece of art such as the Paxmal peace memorial at Walenstadtberg? Amazing.» Robert: «Today we took the ferry on the Walensee to another world: kiwis, grapes, figs and no cars to be seen – you must see Quinten» Roger: «The rucksack is packed and tomorrow I’m off to the Murgtal. I’m looking forward to seeing the 3 lakes.» Ivan: «I’m in Betlis right in front of the tallest waterfall in Switzerland. Impressive!»

Steve: «I didn’t know you could do so much biking on the Flumserberg. The Flumserberg Panorama and Alp Fursch bike routes are fantastic.» Maschgen-

Moni: «Initially, the Gigerwald reservoir dam wall makes an impression but then the remote, old ‹Walser› settlement of St. Martin is something else!»

Theme Trails A wide variety of exciting theme trails ensures that hiking on family holidays becomes an adventure for young and old alike. Topics range from Heidi, flora and fauna to local legends. www.heidiland.com/themenwege

Thermal Water Whether in the unique Tamina thermal spa, the thermal bath at the Valens Clinic or in a private bath at the Bad Ragaz Spahouse: feel the power of the 36.5° warm thermal waters which force their way out into daylight in the Tamina gorge. The history of the discovery and use of the Bad Ragaz healing waters can be seen in the museum in the old bath house, Altes Bad Pfäfers. www.heidiland.com/wellness

Places of Power Special places in the region invite you to pause and recharge your batteries. Nowhere else in Switzerland can so many “places of power” be found in such a small area. In conjunction with the Swiss Research Centre for Places of Power, 55 of these locations have been documented. These special places can be discovered on 15 circular walks. www.heidiland.com/staunen

Skiing & Snowboarding The Heidiland holiday region has the perfect pistes for every age group and every level of ability. Guaranteed snow but not remote: Pizol and Flumserberg. Two skiing areas – one region with over 100 km of prepared pistes, assorted snow parks, free ride slopes and air board pistes. In addition, there are some smaller skiing areas too. www.heidiland.com/winter

Live like Heidi Whether in the Heidi village in Maienfeld, on the Heidi footpath at Pizol or in the Mulchen hut on Flumserberg – you can follow in the footsteps of the wellknown fictional character throughout the region. The landscape is formed from lush alpine pastures, mountain streams, dark fir trees and imposing mountains. Just as it was in Heidi’s time. www.heidiland.com/heidi

Outdoor Fitness Trails One of the largest natural fitness parks in the Alps invites you to exercise in the fresh air. It makes no difference if you are on foot, two wheels or eight inline skate wheels, the outdoor fitness trails make light work of finding the perfect route directly from your hotel or holiday apartment. Around 250 km of routes for running, 450 km of bike trails and 140 km of inline skate paths are clearly signposted. www.heidiland.com/fitness

Culinary Experiences From simple mountain huts to gourmet restaurants – the diversity of restaurants between the Walensee and the Bündner Herrschaft is unlimited. Our gourmet tours, on foot or by electric bike, combine indulgence with exercise and fresh air. Alternatively, how about a wine tasting in the Bündner Herrschaft? www.heidiland.com/kulinarik

Hiking, Sledging, Cross-Country Skiing Whether on foot, runners or long, thin skis: a wellconstructed network of winter footpaths, sledge runs and cross country ski tracks enables you to enjoy challenging energetic exercise or pure pleasurable enjoyment of the winter climate. An evening walk under the star-filled sky is especially romantic. www.heidiland.com/winter

Fun & Games Big pleasure for little visitors: The FLOOMZER summer toboggan ride and the CLiiMBER climbing tower provide adventures on the Flumserberg. The first children’s Kneipp installation in Switzerland and the water playground guarantee fun at Pizol. www.heidiland.com/spass

Hiking In the Heidiland holiday region, the inventiveness of nature seems to know no bounds. Here you can hike in just a few hours from the Mediterranean-like banks of the Walensee up to crystal clear mountain lakes. In summer, the cable cars at Flumserberg and Pizol transport you quickly and comfortably up to the heights. Or how about a hike in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tectonic Arena Sardona? www.heidiland.com/wandern

Customs & Traditions Customs and traditions are kept alive in the Heidiland holiday region. During the summer months, as an example, the alp blessing can still be heard being called on the alpine pastures. Another highly valued tradition locally is the craft of wooden mask carving. And, of course, the very Swiss, traditional «Alpabfahrten» attract numerous interested spectators. www.heidiland.com/brauchtum

Adventure Guaranteed In need of an adrenaline kick? Then choose the air board pistes on the Pizol. A combination of adventure and romance is guaranteed on a ride with your own dog sled team through deep snow on the Flumserberg. And if you are tempted to try your hand as a Pistenbully driver, on one of the powerful piste making machines, then you can help to prepare the pistes on the Pizol. www.heidiland.com/action

In all weathers – nearby Cities In about an hour by car or train you can comfortably get to the cities of Chur, Zürich and St. Gallen. Even Lucerne is only approximately one and a half hours away. www.heidiland.com/transport

In all weathers – indoor activities Should the weather let you down, the region has enough alternatives to offer. How about keeping fit with a game of tennis or on the climbing wall or spending a few pleasant hours in the swimming baths? www.heidiland.com/indoor

In all weathers – Cheese-making Demonstrations Experience traditional customs in an entertaining way. In various dairies you can watch the cheese maker at work. If you would like to look even further behind the scenes, a guided tour and cheese-making demonstration complete with tasting is highly recommended. www.heidiland.com/brauchtum

In all weathers – Entertainment and Culture Do you fancy swapping your ski suit for a dinner jacket? Try your luck with a game of roulette in the casino at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, enjoy an evening in the cinema or dining on a boat trip on the Walensee. www.heidiland.com/events
