Nina Azwoir is a Financial Advisor for Wintrust Wealth Management with over 20 years of experience, 17 spent as a licensed financial advisor.

What sets you apart from other financial advisors?

The main reason I got involved in financial advising was to help hardworking individuals plan for and achieve their financial goals. Having a financial goal goes well beyond just planning for retirement and can involve education, dream vacations, starting a business, saving for a new car, and so much more. The vast scope of complex problems to solve makes this job interesting to me, as no two situations are the same. My team and I stand out by providing exceptional service to our clients, being more than just an advisor but almost like another family member. This feeling of treating all like family comes from my experiences of both culture and adversity growing up in Iraq and having to flee to stay alive.

I was initially born in the north of Iraq and lived there until about the age of five when my family escaped from the Iraqi Ba’ath regime. We spent 3 days and nights making the trek on horseback to get across the border into Iran to escape persecution. In the short time we spent in Iran, many families treated my family like their own. Less than a year later we had to flee Iran and were given emergency refugee accommodations in Canada. Until we could make our way to North America, I saw and met beautiful strangers from different worlds take us in with loving kindness and grace It is experiences like these thatinstilled the drive to be the best version of myself each day. This drive allows me to stand out in a sea of advisors.

What is the best memory you have about being a financial advisor?

A client who I helped with his first business savings account 18 years ago. He wanted to take advantage of his wife’s expertise as a nurse and they opened up their first assisted living facility in Texas. We started with a financial plan and promised to check it every year. In 18 years, we have wished his kids off to college and welcomed his first grandson. I have watched their business grow exponentially to create a life he imagined. We have grown together to get through market ups and downs, and yet whenever we see volatility we always reach for the center and make sure that little old plan we check every year is on track. It makes me proud to see the people I care about grow and spend time with family. That is the reward that keeps me motivated to keep doing what I do. It is my way of life to help guide others as I have been guided.
