Eleventh Season Indiana, 1994 Career Record: 81-91-21 2008 and 2009 Big Sky Coach

Andre Luciano enters his eleventh year as Northern Arizona University head women’s soccer coach after claiming the program's third straight Big Sky title and first-ever regular season title in 2010. Luciano possesses a wealth of coaching experience from the intercollegiate level to club soccer coupled with a successful collegiate career at Indiana University that resulted in two conference championships and a NCAA Final Four appearance. Throughout his term, Luciano has shown an ability to master the coaching landscape. Luciano epitomizes the commitment to the student-athlete relationship, and his philosophy has produced success on the field and in the classroom. For the sixth straight year, the women's soccer team led all fall-Lumberjack teams in 2010 with All-Academic Big Sky honorees (13) and also collected 10 All-Big Sky performers with four first team selections. Over his past ten years leading the program, Luciano has developed 80 All-Big Sky performers while 91 players have been named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team, and 176 have earned Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete Awards for academic and athletic success. Twentyeight of the Lumberjacks 33 players received the Golden Eagle Award last season. Also in 2010, the Lumberjacks received the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the eighth year in a row, posting an imposing team grade-point-average of 3.33. Last season, Luciano guided his squad to their first-ever regular season Big Sky title, but ultimately fell short of their third straight NCAA Women's College Cup appearance when they were defeated by Sacramento State 1-0 in the Big Sky Conference final. NAU finished the 2010 season with a 12-4-3 overall record and 6-0-1 during the conference regular season, their first unbeaten conference record in program history. The 12 wins matched the school record for wins in a season set in 2008 and their .711 winning percentage set a new school record. The Lumberjacks also posted a school record 12 game unbeaten streak, one shy of the Big Sky mark, and a school and conference record six game shutout streak that covered a span of 569 minutes and 2 seconds. Off the field in 2010, Luciano's reputation of producing quality student-athletes was at its highest. Kristi Andreassen, the 2010 Big Sky Defensive Most Valuable Player and three-time All-Big Sky first team selection, was selected as the ESPN Academic All-

American of the Year in the women's soccer University divison. She was also named to the CoSIDA/ESPN All-District Academic Team along with senior Brandy Carr, as well as NSCAA Women's College Scholar All-Americans with senior Tori Howe and junior Tori Rocke. To cap off Andreassen's illustrious career at NAU, she was selected as the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year at the annual Golden Eagle Awards and the Female Athlete of the Year at the all-sports banquet. In 2009, Luciano led the Lumberjacks to the Big Sky Championship final, where they would defeat Idaho State, 40, to advance to their second-consecutive NCAA Tournament and face No. 1 Stanford. NAU finished with a 10-9-2 overall record, including a 4-3 regular season Big Sky record and two wins in the Big Sky Championship to claim the conference title. The Lumberjacks went 6-2-1 at home, and shattered the Lumberjack Stadium attendance record when 2,187 fans witnessed NAU draw with Arizona, 2-2, on August 28. Juniors Andreassen and Rebekah Schmidt were CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine All-District Academic selections with Andreassen going on the earn All-American Academic Honors. In 2008, Luciano led the women’s soccer team to its first Big Sky Conference Championship in the program’s 12th year of Division I competition. As the conference champion, NAU was an automatic qualifier for the 2008 NCAA Women’s College Cup, its first appearance in school history. The women were defeated by No. 2 Portland in the opening round, but went 12-7-3 overall setting a school record for wins in a season (12) and best winning percentage (.614). The Lumberjacks set or tied 16 school and stadium records and broke two Big Sky Conference records for assists in a game (14) and points (32). In addition, Luciano mentored future Hall of Fame selection Cee Cee Odorfer to Big Sky CoOffensive Player of the Year honors and her third straight All-Big Sky first team selection. Odorfer broke school records for points in a season (28), career assist (18), and game-winning goals (13). Also in 2008, Luciano tutored freshman Jenna Samora to Big Sky Newcomer of the Year honors. During the 2007 season, goalkeeper Elizabeth Winkelblech received the NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete Award for excellence as a student-athlete. Under Luciano's guidance, Winkelblech set six combined school records and finished in the top five in seven other statistical categories in her first year as a full-time starter.

The Lumberjacks earned the best record in school history to date with a 7-7-5 overall mark, a winning percentage of .500. All five ties were 0-0 finishes which set an NCAA Division I Women's Soccer record for most 0-0 ties in a single season. NAU opened the year with a 5-2-3 record, the best start to a season through 10 matches in school history. During the 2006 season, Luciano led NAU to a 7-10-1 record finishing sixth in the Big Sky Conference. The Lumberjacks placed nine players on the All-Big Sky All-Conference team, with three student-athletes earning first team honors. Six other Lumberjacks were recognized as All-Big Sky honorable mention. In addition to the brilliant performances on the field by Lumberjacks, Luciano mentored 10 players to All-Big Sky All-Academic recognition. Along with the acknowledgments received from the Big Sky Conference, Luciano placed two players on the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-West Region Team. Lindsey Carey and Odorfer both posted breakout seasons under Luciano's wing. Carey totaled a career-high four goals and ranked second on the team in goals scored. Odorfer led NAU in scoring for the second straight year with 15 points on six goals and three assists. The 15 points tied her for sixth in the Big Sky in 2007 for total points. Odorfer ranked in the top ten in shots, goals, and game-winnings goals. In 2005, Luciano directed the Lumberjacks to a 10-11-0 record, their best finish in his first five years with the program and the most wins in program history. NAU went 4-2-0 in conference play, tying Luciano's best finish in the Big Sky while at NAU prior to the 2008 season in which the Lumberjacks were 4-1-2 in the Big Sky. The women played to a second-place finish at the Big Sky Conference Championships and posted a number of offensive records including most goals, assists and points in a season. The postseason berth marked Luciano's second appearance in the Big Sky tournament and his first showing in the finals. Also in 2005, Luciano placed 10 athletes on the All-Big Sky AllConference teams, the most in school history. He added seven more selections to the All-Academic All-Big Sky team. During the 2004 campaign, Luciano earned two impressive non-conference wins against Illinois State (1-0) and Western Illinois (1-0, OT) out of the Missouri Valley Conference and Summit League, respectively. The Lumberjacks finished 5-11-2, but could easily have gained several more victories as three matches went to double overtime. In the 2003 season, the Lumberjacks posted a school-record four consecutive league wins en route to the best conference start in school history. NAU advanced to the Big Sky Championships for the first time since 2000. Under Luciano's direction, eight players earned All-Big Sky honors in 2003 including the league's first-ever two time offensive MVP, Sierra Cristiano. In his first two seasons, Luciano led the Lumberjacks to a pair of historic wins. In his inaugural season in 2001, the Lumberjacks upset

in-state rival Arizona State 1-0. In 2002, NAU upended Big Sky foe Montana, a feat equaled again in 2003 and 2005. A native of Las Vegas, Nev., Luciano has built the NAU program with a Southwest influence with the majority of the roster from Arizona, Idaho, Nevada and California. Luciano has since expanded his recruiting net to include prep players from Canada, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Washington. His 2007 recruiting class received critical acclaim from notable soccer publications. The class became the first in NAU history to be nationallyranked in the Soccer Buzz Top 100. The 2008 class was equally as strong ranking 33rd in the West Region. Luciano came to Flagstaff from Tucson, Ariz., where he spent two seasons as an assistant for the Arizona program. Luciano joined the Wildcats' staff in 1999. In 2000, he served as recruiting coordinator for a rebuilding Arizona team. Luciano has also worked with the Washington, Arizona and Nevada Olympic Development Programs (ODP), and was an assistant coach for the Utah State women's program in 1998. Prior to Utah State, Luciano was an assistant coach with the Washington State women for the 1995 and 1996 seasons and also coached in the Washington East ODP during that time. Before heading back west, Luciano served as a co-head coach for the girls program at McCauley High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was the coach of Team Acceleration, an under-17 girl's club program. As a player, Luciano began his career at Yavapai Community College in Prescott, Ariz. He was named the ISAA/adidas Goalkeeper of the Year and the NJCAA Tournament Most Valuable Goalkeeper after leading Yavapai to the NJCAA championship in 1990. Luciano transferred to Indiana for his final two seasons and became one of the top goalkeepers in the country at the Division I level. He helped the Hoosiers to Big Ten championships in 1991 and 1992, as well as a berth in the NCAA tournament both years. The squad advanced to the Final Four in 1991 and the Elite Eight in 1992. Luciano was selected Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year in 1991 and finished in the top-10 in the nation both seasons in goals against average. Luciano stayed on with the Hoosiers during the 1993 season, serving as an undergraduate assistant coach while completing his degree. He graduated from Indiana in 1993 with a degree in American history. Luciano and Lori Kutch were married May 23, 2009 in Pittsburgh. Shutting the Opposition Down Scoring didn’t come easy for the opposition last year, as the Lumberjacks held their opponents to just 16 goals in 19 games. In its last 13 games of the season, NAU only allowed four goals scored, in which the Lumberjacks posted 10 shutouts. The 10 shutouts were just one short of the single-season record in school history. Records, Records and More Records 2010 was a record breaking season for the NAU soccer program, both individually and as a team. Brenna Boies set the all-time assists record with her 19th career assist on September 19 against Air Force. She finished the season with eight assists for the second straight year, and wrapped up her career with 23 total. Tori Rocke shattered the career shutouts record last season after posting nine shutouts in 2010 to bring her total to 21. The record breaking performance came on October 1 against San Francisco, where Rocke made one save for her 14th career shutout. Her .808 win percentage in goal and her 0.60 goals against average also set new NAU season-bests. Fellow goalkeeper Lauren Weaver and Rocke also allowed just eight goals apiece, setting a new school record for least goals allowed in a season. Tori Howe and Kristi Andreassen both capped off their illustrious careers at NAU with a school-record 79 games played, equaling the mark set by Sarah Neatherton one year prior. Howe started every single one of those games to break the school record with 79 career matches started, while Andreassen now sits right behind her with 78 career matches started. As a team, the Lumberjacks posted a 12 game unbeaten streak, a school-best and just one shy of the Big Sky mark. During this streak, the squad broke school and Big Sky records with six consecutive shutouts. NAU didn’t allow a goal for 569 minutes and two seconds during that span, breaking the school-record for longest opponent scoring drought. The team also matched the 2008 squad with 12 wins, a program-high, and its .711 winning percentage is a new single-season record. They also posted their best season at home with a .818 winning percentage at Lumberjack Stadium, despite the ongoing construction of the Health and Learning Center. Their first unbeaten conference season at 6-0-1 also clinched the program’s first-ever regular season Big Sky title.

The Big Sky Conference enters its 49th year of athletic competition in 2011-12. The Big Sky is an NCAA Division I member in all sports, with member institutions classified in the Football Championship Subdivision (formally I-AA). For the sixth and final year, the Big Sky is a nine-team league. The current lineup includes Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State and Weber State. Northern Colorado is the newest member of the league, having joined the conference in 2006. The Big Sky will expand to an 11-team league with 13 football-playing members on July 1, 2012. Southern Utah University and the University of North Dakota will join as full members. Cal Poly and UC Davis will join as footballaffiliate members. The league has become one of the strongest Division I conferences in the West and is a national leader in the Football Championship Subdivision. Six times, Big Sky teams have won the Division I National Championship, including Eastern Washington in 2010. A Big Sky team has played for the national championship each of the past three seasons.

The Big Sky Conference was established in 1963 by six charter members – Idaho, Idaho State, Gonzaga, Montana, Montana State and Weber State. Those six schools formed the foundation of the Big Sky before the league expanded in 1970 by adding Boise State and Northern Arizona. Gonzaga left the Sky in 1979 and was replaced by Nevada, which gave the league eight members. The conference grew to nine schools in 1987 with the addition of Eastern Washington.

Treasure State. While on a track and field trip from Pocatello, Idaho, to Missoula, Mont., the legendary Dubby Holt of Idaho State saw a “Welcome to Big Sky Country” sign as his team entered Montana. Holt, and his athletes thought “Big Sky” would be a perfect name for the new conference. Harry Missildine of the Spokane SpokesmanReview called for the newly formed league to be named the Big Sky Conference in his column dated Feb. 20, 1963.

The 1990s saw change in the makeup of the league, beginning in 1992 when Nevada departed and put the Big Sky back at eight teams. In 1996 Boise State and Idaho left and at the same time the conference added Portland State, Sacramento State and Cal State Northridge. The Big Sky maintained nine teams for five years before Cal State Northridge departed in the spring of 2001.

The Big Sky sponsors championships in 14 sports, including men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, basketball and tennis. In addition, there are also championships in football, and women’s volleyball, golf and soccer. The Big Sky will add a softball championship in the spring of 2013.

The Big Sky spreads across eight states spanning from the Pacific Ocean to the Rocky Mountain Front. The Big Sky is represented along the entire west coast with schools in Washington, Oregon and California. League schools also range up and down the Rocky Mountains with institutions in Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. Of the eight western-most states in the contiguous United States only one, Nevada, is not represented in the Big Sky. On Feb 25, 1963, the name Big Sky was adopted by the six presidents of the charter members as the name of the new conference. The name Big Sky originated in a novel written by the late A.B. (Bud) Guthrie of Great Falls, Mont., in 1947 entitled “The Big Sky.” Jack Hollowell, a former Montana advertising director, promoted the Big Sky theme for the

The 2011-12 season will mark the 24th year that the Big Sky Conference will sponsor championships in women’s sports. The former Mountain West Conference existed from 198288, sponsoring championships for women’s sports at the same institutions the Big Sky had men’s programs. The Big Sky merged with the Mountain West in 1988, forming one league for both men and women. Doug Fullerton, the fifth commissioner of the Big Sky Conference, is in his 17th year at the helm. Fullerton took over the Big Sky on July 1, 1995, replacing longtime commissioner Ron Stephenson, who passed away in 2011. Stephenson served the league for 14 years. Steve Belko was the commissioner from 1977-81, while John Roning held the post from 1971-77. The first league commissioner was Jack Friel, who served from 1963-71.

DR. JOHN HAEGER

UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT

John D. Haeger leads Northern Arizona University in its commitment to undergraduate education-a commitment enhanced by the university's ongoing efforts in research, graduate education and distance learning. Dr. Haeger has been NAU president since November 2001 after joining the university to serve as NAU provost in June 2000. During his term as president, Dr. Haeger has guided the university to new heights in student enrollment. He also has ushered the university into its largest building boom since the 22-year term of former NAU President J. Lawrence Walkup. Further, he has fully endorsed a national effort to increase institutional accountability, explaining that NAU must perform on a level that demonstrates its significance to students and to society.

semesters. * Access and affordability. NAU has partnership with 15 community colleges throughout the state. The initiative streamlines the credit transfer process, allowing students enrolled at partnering community colleges to save time and money by being admitted to NAU while they are earning an associate degree. * Innovation. NAU-Yavapai opened its Prescott Valley doors last fall, allowing students to earn bachelor’s degrees at about one-third the cost of a traditional, residential college experience. The savings comes from offering a limited number of degree options and using existing resources through NAU’s Flagstaff campus. The cost-saving model garnered the attention of Gov. Jan Brewer, who called it “visionary” and “an example for the entire state and the nation.” * Expansion of nursing and the health professions. The university has placed emphasis on graduating more students in nursing and developing or expanding programs in occupational therapy, athletic training and physicians assistant. * Commitment to research. President Haeger has instituted NAU’s first office of Vice President for Research. In Among university achievements under his leadership: Yuma, a 12,225-square-foot building that will provide research four-year degree opportunities. * Tuition guarantee. Dr. Haeger instituted a “block * High Country Conference Center. JIM FALLIS Jim Fallis was named the Director of Athletics at Northern Arizona University in May, 2004, and the department has had success across the board under his leadership. Under his direction, the 300-plus Lumberjack student-athletes have maintained 3.00 or better cumulative mark in 13 of the 14 semesters under his direction. Eight squads posted a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA last year led by the soccer team which posted a department-best 3.39 in 2010-11. The positive grade report comes after a semester that produced a school-record fifty-five student-athletes participating in spring commencement ceremonies. NAU also recently had all 15 sponsored sports are exceeding NCAA academic standards in the Academic Progress Report. One hundred sixth-three student-athletes were recognized in 2011 at the Golden Eagle Awards for significant contributions to the Lumberjack athletics program while maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Fallis established the Athletic Director's Honor Roll to recognize student-athletes with a 3.5 or better GPA and men’s basketball player Kelly Golob, women’s golfer Ali Carter and soccer player Kristi Andreassen have earned NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships under his leadership. Outside the classroom, the department staff and student-athletes contributed 4,000-plus community service hours in Flagstaff and around the state of Arizona each of the last five years and totaled more than 28,000 hours during his tenure. The yearly contribution is believed to be the highest among the three state universities. NAU has ranked among the top 100 athletic departments in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings four times under Fallis, while winning 27 Big Sky Conference tiles, recording 20 Top-40 national finishes and winning eight individual national titles. NAU has won the Big Sky Conference Men's All-Sports title three times and finished among the top three for the prestigious President’s Cup award every year of its existence.

Drury Hotels to build a 42,000-square-foot conference center and an adjoining hotel and parking structure. Consultants have estimated the economic benefit to northern Arizona to be about $7 million annually. * 1899 Bar & Grill. The university has opened an upscale steakhouse in the old north union that is open to the public and complements the conference center. * Largest gift in university history. The College of Business Administration was able to acquire the largest gift in university history, a $25 million donation from business leader William Franke. The college was renamed The W.A. Franke College of Business. * Arizona Cardinals partnership. The National Football League's Arizona Cardinals agreed to continue their training camp at the Flagstaff campus. About $7 million will be added to the northern Arizona economy as a result. Dr. Haeger is a member Arizona Board of Education, the Governor's P-20 Council, the board of directors of the Translational Genomics Research Institute, is former chair of the United Way of Northern Arizona board, serves as commissioner for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, and is past chair of the Council of Presidents of the Big Sky Conference.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Fallis has also overseen the installation of state-ofthe-art scoreboard and message-center in the Walkup Skydome since his arrival. The Skydome also welcomed the installation of a removable REALGRASS™ Matrix system during the Spring of 2008, the first removable REALGRASS™ system to be installed in the United States. It marked the first accomplishment by the President’s Task Force on Athletics Facilities. NAU signed a five-year apparel agreement with Adidas in 2008 to outfit all 15 intercollegiate teams with practice and game gear. The deal replaced NIKE as the official team outfitter, a three-year contract originally developed by Fallis. Prior to NAU, Fallis served as athletics director at the University of Northern Colorado since 1993. Academic and athletic successes as well as fiscal responsibility were hallmarks of Fallis' tenure at Northern Colorado. Northern Colorado teams won 31 conference championships in his 10 years. Academically, UNC produced 13 NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients in his 11-year tenure. UNC won two Division II National Championships in football (1996, 1997) under his direction. At the time he left, athletics had over $8 million in endowments and $600,000 in reserves. Prior to UNC, Fallis spent seven years as athletic director at Lake Superior State University. Under his leadership, LSSU won NCAA Division I Hockey Championships in 1988 and 1992. Fallis, 58, has been actively involved in the administration of intercollegiate athletics at the national level. Presently, he serves on the Learfield Directors' Cup Committee and represents the Big Sky on the Division I Championship cabinet and serves on the Administrative Committee. He was also selected by Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to serve on the Governor's Council on Health, Physical Fitness and Sport for the state of Arizona and is a member of the Rotary Club in Flagstaff.
