Fishing Rodeo Navarre Fishing Rodeo set to reel in anglers and lasso fun By Chris Chatelain and Ken Garner Navarre Press Navarre has a plethora of fish swimming through its waters, and multiple ways of catching them. So, why shouldn’t Navarre host its own version of a fishing rodeo to showcase our great fishing? That’s exactly the thinking that went into organizing this weekend’s inaugural Navarre Fishing Rodeo, says Laurie Gallup, owner of Navarre Properties and co-organizer of the event. “We have the longest pier on the Gulf, and we have several charter options locally, but I felt that word wasn’t getting out about the great fishing opportunity we have here,”said Gallup.“People can fish in the Gulf, the bays, the Sound and off the pier and even from kayaks. It’s an easy sport to pick up, and there are so many ways to fish here. So, we started thinking about putting something together that would really shine the spotlight on our great fishing.” Mission accomplished. Word is definitely getting out, as Gallup said that she has received calls from potential visitors from as far away as Colorado in recent weeks. “This is something that will be great no matter where you’re from,”said Gallup.“Local residents and visitors alike can come out and have fun at the beach and on the water.” Gallup says that there is no cost to watch the event unfolding, and encourages people to come out and watch the boats come and go, and keep an eye on the leaderboards and the multitude of fish coming in. “You don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy this,” said Gallup. Area charter captains are also looking forward to the weekend’s big event, and one says that the time could be right for a big weekend for great catches.
