Memorial Day

A day to share stories

Firefighters with Navarre Beach Volunteer Fire Department saved a distressed swimmer on May 27 who found himself overcome by the waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Water conditions that day were calm and green flags were flying. Fire Chief Mike Howard said observers thought the swimmer, age 42, was playing in the water and when those on the beach realized the swimmer was in danger, several young girls swam out to him and put a floatation device under him.
