Greetings of Warm Pleasures!

00 Years-and counting. That’s how far and how long Cebu Technological University had been continuously fighting and striving for excellence. The Nation Builder on the other hand, had been long since exercising freedom in serving as the medium of communication between the students and the administration, withstanding almost a century. Imagine that. This is why I never thought I’d be given the honor to serve, and the same time lead about 10, 000 students in an institution like this. I had known it wouldn’t be easy but I didn’t dare underestimate the zeal of each CTUnian to be heard. To be involved. To Care and to Speak out. It is a never-ending challenge to stir the students’ interests, and an even greater challenge to uphold and meet their expectations when you are also trying to meet expectations of a team of hungry campus journalists, waiting to learn, and eager-to-please. This passion lies in every CTUnian, waiting to become alive and so I, along with the rest of my fellow campus journalists try to find ways to stir that passion, to let it burn, to simply let it THROUGH. After all, we make out the CTU culture, bringing it at its best, after surpassing a century. So open your eyes, dear, fellow CTUnians. Speak out and Celebrate 100 years’ worth of stories, of triumphs, and 100 years’ worth of a legacy that deserves only to be told. Cheers!

T

his year, 2011, Cebu Technological University System is celebrating its centennial: 100 years of successfully educating men and women who became entrepreneurs, engineers, technicians, hoteliers, journalists, media practitioners, teachers and etc. Indeed, leaders in their fields of endeavour.

For many years, the critical problem of the institution was to get the University status. Renovations had to be done, buildings had to be erected, landscapes had to be developed, competent staff had to be gathered and curriculum of study had to be organized. However, the significance of these achievements to this instant is that we must not linger too long in the facets of struggles of our past, for our new goal today is to look for the brighter and better future. While the University hopes to remain on the forefront on the race of quality education, it is our duty and responsibility now to think critically on our direction of development for our future.

The time has come.

We must focus our individual efforts on specific goals or purposes in order that our efforts to develop might have direction or significance.

Recently, I am very proud that one of our fellow CTUnian in the name of GERALD PARADERO ranked 4th in the May 2012 Civil Engineering Licensure examination knowing the fact that he just graduated on March 2012 and the type of exam was new, from 40 items per subject for the past few years to a 100-item per subject this year onwards. It shows that our University continues to succeed and that is because we can adjust to the demands of change and we focus on growing in ways that allow us to remain relevant and embrace the ever-evolving global landscape.

4

For the future, we will accept the challenge to keep up with the pace, and in so doing, our beloved University will be among the best public State University in the Philippines. Furthermore, as students, we must raise the expectations we have for ourselves. We must set excellence as the standard for everything.

APRIL AGNES GALADO, BSDC III Editor-In-Chief

Failure is not an option.

No matter how well our instructors teach and no matter how well the administration serves our needs, we must assume greater responsibility for our own education. This is very important. Expect to excel and then proceed to do what it takes to achieve it.

y dear fellow hatchlings, at November 20, 2011, we’d be turning 100. Go on and make your wishes. Me? My wish is simple: 1.we would have world peace (amen) 2.I would finally gain some weight this year, and lastly 3.that I get to own a turtle from a pet shop. The reason why I eagerly wish to own a turtle is because they are such admirable creatures. Even when they move at a slow pace, they’re never afraid of moving into the future and facing challenges. From being just eggs to full-grown adults, 150-year-old turtles, they face constant danger but even with all that, they still struggle to live, bravely facing the impending tomorrow on their own. Sure they hide inside their shells at times. But humans also do that. Don’t we run behind our big brother’s back to hide from strangers or fearful animals? Such commendable creatures, they are! There are more things to tell on our article “Sticking Out Your Neck” inside this centennial issue. And here goes my final wish: that you fully enjoy this semester’s issue. Wishing you all the best!

That Bloody Pen r. Jose Rizal might just be rolling in his grave by now. For the sword is after all mightier than the pen.

How many pens does it take to defy and conquer a sword? As of 2012, the count came to one hundred and fifty, for defenceless public servants in the media. Next to politics, Journalism is about the dirtiest job there is. And next to being in the army, it’s the most dangerous. Journalism can be a clean enough job if a journalist knows that

his credibility is worth more than the richest politician’s bank account. But there are just too many things at risk the moment you decide to become the citizens’ watchdog. Your credibility is oftentimes on the line. It comes with the danger of someone lurking in the front yard, waiting to cut your throat.

We have seen faces of our journalists, underrated in the kind of job they are in. Be a journalist. Write with passion and freedom but pay a price higher than your life and lower than what you’re getting paid for. Underrated since Marcos’ reign, because delivering the news means putting their lives on the line, in the name of public service.

The death of editor and publisher Christopher Guarin in General Santos is the 10th so far since President Noynoy Aquino’s reign. Ten may be a number, considerable in some cases, and impressive in contests, in other things, but in the merciless killings of journalists, ten is just one time too many.

For more than two decades, journalists have been the target of endless blackmail, threats, and gunmen lurking by their houses. While the president sleeps soundly in his bedroom at night, the next journalist shakes in his, only to find himself drawn, defenceless, along with the crimson of his own blood, his pen, supposedly mighty, hanging, as crimson as his lifeless hands.

CTU Celebrates Second Founding Anniversary Opens Museum, New Buildings to Rise By Fritz Anderson B. Cruda

en days before the centennial celebration which was set last November 20, 2011, Cebu Technological University celebrated its second founding anniversary commemorating the institution’s conversion into a university. A program was conducted at the Kasadya gym at 8:30 am with a mass led by Rev. Fr. Dony La Rosa III. Highlighted also during that day, was the grand opening and blessing of the university’s museum which is located at the second floor of CTU’s Heritage building. CTU and all its satellite campuses had donated their historic items to the museum, as such is the first “Barong” worn by Dr. Bonifacio Villanueva when he was inducted as the University President.

The Pollution Control Officer (PCO) headed by Dr. Edgar A. Solana, director, said that their primary goals were to formulate strategies on proper management of toxic substances and hazardous wastes, initiate measures for the improvement and safety of school facilities related to small and simple works, maximize the functionality of existing solid waste of CTU-Main Campus, adopt the waste water management and control program at CTU community and lastly to institutionalize a CTU clean air environment. Moreover, an Ecommitment wallsigning was made at the CTU stage in which everyone was requested to put their signatures as a proof that they witnessed and supported the program. Thereafter was the unveiling of Recyclable Depository Area which was assisted

the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) rendered a parade and review headed by the Corps Commander, 1CL Marvin A. Bensig in honor of the University President at the campus grounds. After that, the steering committee and guests which in majority are also CTU personnel and staff settled for the formal opening of the program with Ms. Rhodora Magan as the master of ceremony. Republic Act 9744 which is also known as the University Bill was signed by former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the MIP Lounge of the Mactan Cebu International Airport last November 2009. That resulted to the conversion of Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST) and its nine satellite campuses into a university. Festival of Festivals were presented by the selected students wearing their festival costumes. At the same venue, the Centennial Legacy Video Showing displays the CTU before and as it evolved from generation to generation through the help and effort of the administration and system, their achievements and changes and how the CTU system responded to the needs of the students. To finish the wondrous day was the grand fireworks display at the CTU oval which gave lights during that night which lasted for almost six minutes, then a hot-air balloon was lit which was the first in the CTU history.

President, Dr. Bonifacio Villanueva said that the university is now having new projects like the new five-storey building which is intended to provide classrooms so that students will not have their classes in tents. One building will be intended for College of Technology (COT) providing 40 classrooms and is expected to have a penthouse at the rooftop that will serve as a mini-hotel, while the other one will be built north of the campus. The said edifices are estimated to be erected on June 2012 wherein the administration had allotted Php 45, 000, 000.00 for the realization of the project. Moreover, Dr. Villanueva emphasized that there might be a 10 percent increase of tuition fee next academic year, 2012-2013 because of the project mentioned.

news CTU OPENS HERITAGE MUSEUM useum is an institution dedicated to help people understand and appreciate the natural world, the history of civilizations and the record of humanity’s artistic, scientific and technological achievements. Museums collect objects of scientific, aesthetic, or historical importance; care for them; and study, interpret, and exhibit them for the purposes of public education and the advancement of knowledge. There are museums in almost every major city in the world and in smaller communities as well. The word “museum” , which exists both in English and in Latin comes originally from the Greek word Mouseion “ the seat of the muses,” from Mousa, “ a muse” and is pluralized as “museums” (or rarely, “musea”), and hence a building set apart for study and the arts. And as part of the institution’s celebration, CTU had finally constructed

The museum is open at 8:00-12:00 nn and 1:00-4:00 in the afternoon. Presented in the museum are the collections of artifacts from the CTU’s external campuses, specimens and other historical importance of the university from the day the school existed and onwards. Dr. Rebecca C. Manalastas, Associate Dean of Graduate School and Dr. Victor D. Villaganas, University Vice-President for Academic Affairs proposed the museum during the informal talks last September 2011 and was brought up by Dr. Bonifacio S. Villanueva, University President IV during the Board of Regents (BOR ) meeting on the same month. “The existence of the museum is anchored on the basic philosophy that the CTU Family is kept unified by a deep sense of pride in its own identity and cultural heritage. The national identity of CTU Family must be developed and enhanced, while imbibing the spirit of nationalism and strong commitment in the protection and dissemination of CTU’s legacy,” Dr. Manalastas expressed. Gender and

Development (GAD) is responsible for the establishment of CTU Museum, caretaker and at the same time, its curator. They continue to curate exhibitions and displays, shaping the main historical narratives and object interpretation alongside their collegues involved in what is now ‘learning.’ The museum was not part of the 2011 Annual Plan as no specific budget was appropriated for it. However, the CTU Museum was established through the contribution of the following: Gender and Development Funds (GAD) worth of Php 220, 500.00 for nine glass showcases for the nine external campuses, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) worth of php 100,000.00 for painting works and 100,000.00 from the Alumni for the flooring. When asked about the connection of the museum to the CTU History, Dr. Manalastas said that the CTU Museum was envisioned as the premier institution and repository of our heritage and it was dedicated to the next generation that they will have a glimpse of what is CTU before and now. “CTU specimens and artifacts are not found in other museum because these belong to CTU heritage and culture. We are still in the process of collecting more specimens and artifacts as a technological institution because our focus is to make CTU Museum the only Technological Museum throughout the Philippines,” she added. Displays are still constructed essentially around objects, thus making material culture a key constituent of most museum interpretation narratives. There’s a possibility that the museum will be extended, but it only happens after eight years. Outsiders are also allowed to get inside the museum since the process is still ongoing but only one thing that nothing inside the museum should be taken out and silence is strictly observed. RSB

SSC Impose Acrobatic Project “It’s a good thing that the SSC obliged the students to buy the tickets because it’s still for the school and your own benefit,” stated Mr. Roosevelt Arnado, the Survivor Acrobatic Skills Entertainment marketing manager. Many complained about the inspiring of the tickets which cost thirty pesos for the said acrobatic performance. So a resolution was made by reducing the tickets into halves. It was done for the students to avail the ticket and for the administrators to reach the quota. In addition, thirty pesos is the entrance fee for the outsiders and one hundred pesos for the VIP seats. The exhibition was first scheduled last March 16, 2011 and was then moved later to March 23, 2011. But on the day of the performance, another postponement was made due to the insufficient income that only summed up to Php 14, 000.00.

CTU-MC HOLDS AMAZING RACE FOR CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

The agreed payment for the performers was Php 75, 000.00. And so the exhibition was eventually brought last July 27, 2011 as the administrators had already met the amount, despite the comments of many students. “We were not asked but were told. And should we not acquire ourselves of the ticket, then a two-hour community service is to be done,” exclaimed Romeo Quiseo, Jr., a second year BS Marine Engineering student. There were still a number of nonbuyers. And since the administration prohibited the SSC to implement any sanction for the students, the organization pleaded for an option – to hold a community service. “The said option to be given to nonbuyers is yet to be scheduled. What’s certain is that it will be implemented next semester to be held here in the campus vicinity,” stated SSC President, Dave Emmanuel Maru.

The different teams were In one group, there should be ten members that are bonafide students of the said campus. “The Amazing Race was actually first conducted this year if we will deal with the mechanics, and its second time bearing the title Amazing Race,” says Mr. Dave Emmanuel Maru, Supreme Student Council President. He also added that the race was only a part of the campus’

centennial celebration. The intention of the activity is to let the students know the existing organizations within CTU-MC. The team which bested all the other participants was the IEC Survivors composed of Jeno Baba, Sammuel Gigante, Christine Joy Cabanas, Gianne Jean Genimelo, Niño Roy Dungog, Cherry Mae Fabugais, Reymark Rosacenia, Noel Jay Japon, Ma. Shermaine Pongase, and Jeffer Sohn Quirol.

otwithstanding the unpredictable weather, Cebu Technological University- Main Campus (CTU-MC) successfully celebrated its Centennial Intramurals meet last August 22-26, 2011 having the theme, “Celebrating 100 Years of Excellence, Camaraderie and Sportsmanship.” The event started with a parade past 2:00 in the afternoon, participated by the Supreme Student Council officers, Administration, Athletes, The Nation Builder Editors and Staffs, Online Community, and the Drum, Lyre and Bugle Corps. news Meanwhile, Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) was in charge of the security of the said week-long event. John Lloyd Badayos, Cadet 2nd Class said that last year’s intramurals was unmanageable as compared to this year in which he further described as well-organized. “I guess this Intramurals is the most peaceful one so far. I can’t believe that the outcome of this event would be as successful as this. I feel very happy,” said Dave Emmanuel Maru, SSC President. When asked about the distinction of this year’s Meet compared to the previous year, he revealed that they had omitted Scrabble and Beach Volleyball and had inserted Dance Palabas instead. It is for the reason that the mentioned two tournaments are not included in the Palarong Pambansa.

Intrams were changed into Mr. and Ms. CTU as suggested by the deans of the colleges. In addition, the disco was removed and replaced with a show of bands. Maru said that the administration forbid having disco to avoid the recurrence of the same conflict (fist fight) by the students that took place during the acquaintance party.

Booth registration for insiders was Php50.00 while Php100.00 for outsiders that would serve as a mean of the IGP (Income Generating Project).

The Supreme Student Council, together with the Coordinators, raised funds for each unit

Meanwhile, UNIT IV had still defended its throne from the other five competing units, landing first place with a total of 16 gold medals. It was seconded by Unit I having 13. However, the third and fourth location was a close fight between two Units with only a onegold medal difference. Unit II and Unit VI accumulated a total of 11 and 10 gold medals respectively. The fifth spot went to Unit III with a total of 6 gold medals followed by Unit V on the last spot after depositing five gold medals.

Though Dance Palabas is still not part of the said national competition, it was still realized to make the audience experience a different presentation of the competing Units U that would additionally grab attention during the closing ceremony of the event.

Unit IV held the victory after defending the championship for four consecutive years. “Four consecutive years naming number one. Pasabot nga grabe ka astig kaming mga Engineering,” an engineering student boasted.

A member of the Commission on YouthArchdiocese of Cebu, Fatima Piodos shared her experiences in the World Youth Day, 2011 held in Madrid, Spain. “It was wonderful, even though the climate is unfavorable for walking long distance but still the cheers of the people gave us motivation to finish the walk, the walk with God,” she said. World Youth Day is the day when young people from different nations around the globe, come together showing the universality of, and diversity of the Catholic Church. It is a time for the youth to share their faith and be rejuvenated

to spread the gospel of Christ in their homelands. It is also a way to come to understand other cultures and spread peace and understanding throughout the world. Another doxology was then followed entitled Firm in Faith by the Children of Mary (COM) which was followed by an intermission number by a band of The Youth for a United World presenting their two songs composed for the blessed Chiara Luce Badano and her story of her life following God’s will. Lastly, the Youth for a United World engaged the audience to participate in their dance, “Father, that all May be One.” “Although, majority of the students are very busy studying for the coming examination week giving us not so populous audience, still, the event was very successful because youth organizations in Cebu are gathered together celebrating God’s love,” said Noeme Selerio, CM member.

CTU ENGINEERING FIELDS TOPS CEBU UNIVERSITIES By: Rizalino S. Caratao

2011 is for Engineering,” said Dr. Cornelio Duaso, Dean of College of Engineering, after Cebu Technological UniversityMain Campus engineering students manifested oustanding performances in 2011 regional quiz bowls and quizzes for civil, mechanical and electrical engineering fields. Civil Engineering Last August 5, 2011, selected civil engineering students were set out to compete in Invitational Interschool Civil Engineering Quiz 2011. Opponents were from University of Cebu and University of the Visayas. Competing in UC-Main Campus, CTUMC contestants swept the first three places of the quiz. Jejomar Duque, 5th year, won the first place; Francisco Onde Jr, 3rd year, second place; Sherlon Gomez, 5th year, third place. A month later, the same students exhibited excellent performances as they “almost” grabbed the first three places of Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Regional Student Quiz 2011 held in Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City last September 3, 2011. Trained by Engr. Alex Mayor, CE Chairman, Gerald Paradero, 5th year, garnered the first place; Duque, first runner-up; Onde Jr, 3rd runner-up; and Sherlon Gomez, 4th runnerup. Defeated schools were Cebu Institute of Technology-University, University of the Visayas, University of San Carlos, Southwestern University and University of San Jose-Recoletos. A week later, September 10, 2011, CE students, Duque and Onde Jr, made up one team to participate in National Civil Engineering Student Quiz bowl 2011 last September 10, 2011 held in University of the Philippines – Diliman Campus. Among 120 teams from 60 colleges and universities throughout the Philippines, Duque and Onde’s team ranked 12th as the said quiz bowl ended. Mechanical Engineering The Mechanical Engineering Team competed in Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) Regional Quiz Bowl 2011 which took place last September 8, 2011 in University of Southern Philippines in Lahug, Cebu City and concluded the contest ranking first runner-up. of Engineering, the team is composed of Jeranlou Yubal, team captain, Aaron Tajanlangit, Gracildo Son (all 5th year students), Stephen Sumayang, 4th year, and Rizalino Caratao, 2nd year. CTU team almost made it to the championship when they had a tie with CIT-U. However, they failed to answer the fourth question of the tie-breaker round, and thus, it made them first runner-up of the said event. Opponents were from University of Cebu, Cebu Institute of Technology –University ,University of the Visayas, Southwestern University, University of San Jose – Recoletos, Univesity of San Carlos and Don Bosco College. Electrical Engineering On the other hand, EE team was sent to take part in Regional Math Wizard 2011 and Regional Quiz Show 2011 in Cebu Institute of Technology – University last September 23, 2011. In the morning, Regional Math Wizard 2011 started its quest for best math wizards and the EE team ranked third runner-up. Regional Quiz Show 2011, the highlight of the whole event, came next wherein CTU victoriously gained the highest honor of the said event. It was a battle between CTU, UC-LM, UV, CIT-U and Negros Oriental State University (NORSU). It was EE Team’s first time to grab the first place of such regional quiz bowl. Coached by Engr. Joecyn Archival, the team is composed of Jeff Rey Jayme, Jestoni Tan, James Russell Encina, Romel Fortaliza and

Vladimer Dela Cerna. MOCES 2011 Meanwhile, SSC President, Dave Emmanuel Maru, toppled other colleges and universities in PICE’s quest for Most Outstanding Civil Engineering Student (MOCES) 2011 as he was chosen to represent Region VII in the national category. Criteria for the search were the student’s academic standing, extra-curricular activities, and participation in PICE. “I am proud and happy that somehow, nagbunga jud ug nindot ang akong mga hardships and sacrifices,” said Maru. Invitational Mathematics Quiz Bee 2011 Last September 28, 2011, selected engineering students competed in Invitational Mathematics Quiz Bee 2011 which took place in CTU-Dumanjug Extension Campus. Coached by Engr. Joecyn Archival and Engr. Alex Mayor, Rizalino Caratao (ME-2) was declared Champion; Jejomar Duque (CE-5), first runner-up; and Jestoni Tan (EE-5), third runnerup. Participating schools were CTU campuses such as CTU-Dumanjug Extension Campus, CTU-Danao, CTU-Barili and CTUMoalboal. “CTU’s College of Engineering, indeed, has become a threat to other universities when it comes to quizbowls and quizzes. Hopefully, it will make a name not only in such aspect but also during board examinations,” said Dr. Duaso.

SSC corner Cebu Technological University at 100: a Century of Nurturing Minds from Generation to Generation “Honor the past. Adapt the present. Chart the future.” This school year is the time for a really grand celebration. We feel very honored and privileged to have been given the opportunity to behold the 100th year of the founding of our dear alma mater – Cebu Technological University. A once in a lifetime opportunity to glance and marvel at the greatness and excellence our university has achieved throughout the years of constant development, innovation and revolution. Like how a grain of sand was made into a very beautiful and valuable pearl, CTU stands on the pedestal of academic glory after a century of constructive changes starting with its humble beginnings in 1911. For a span of 3,155,760,000 seconds, CTU managed to nurture the minds of students from generation to generation. Brought hope and joy in the achievement of these students’ goals in life. Gave them a better future – an opportunity to live a life of comfort and convenience with the quality education it provides. And she never and will never stop. As long as wisdom-hungry minds come to her for academic refuge, her arms are wide open to embrace and help all of them, to the best of her abilities. Becoming part of Cebu Technological University’s history is probably one of the best moments of my life (and one of the most important, too). It did not only give me the sure way to have my bright future, but it also helped me develop to my full potential and gave me an entirely different personality and character – somewhat like an extreme makeover, only done gradually and painstakingly. I may not be what I am today if not because of my alma mater’s care and nurturing touch. It taught me lots of academic lessons, as well as real-life lessons that aid me in preparing myself for what is about to come as I finally step out of Education’s door. But the most important thing that has ever happened to me was becoming a leader. It gave me the chance to know my true self full well – my strengths, weaknesses and capabilities. Experiences shaped and honed my leadership skills and abilities. I learned to interact with people very well. Hard work, planning and organizing, and critical situations pushed me to become persistent, smart and a good handler of circumstances. I am becoming a better person with each step I take. I know deep in my heart that with all these wonderful things that have happened to me ever since I first entered her portals, I am and will be forever indebted to Cebu Technological University. I’m passing the ball to you so it’s your turn to share your own story. Now, how has CTU changed your life? A testimony by:

he old saying, “ actions speak louder than words,” may be true, but words are often more important than actions when people form first impressions. For many who have learned the proper use of the English language, listening to bad grammar is like hearing the sound of fingernails scraping across a blackboard. The words we use and the manner in which we use them are viewed by many as an indicator of our intelligence. The reality is that often people use bad grammar because the improper usage of words has been ignored in them. Imagine the child whose parents or grandparents regularly say “I seen” instead “I saw.” By the first day of school, the child has heard the expression countless times. The child may be corrected once or twice by a teacher in school, but when at home, the child continues to hear the incorrect use of the verb. As a result, the improper usage becomes firmly entrenched. Poor grammar may negatively affect a person for a lifetime. When interviewed for a scholarship, the student may discover that poor grammar blocks the chances of obtaining funding for college. When interviewed for a job, the applicant may discover that improper use of language may tip the scales in favour of another candidate. When an individual obtains a job and must make a presentation in front of peers, he or she may lose their interest and respect if using words improperly. The ability to communicate properly and thus effectively may ultimately determine if an increase in salary, added responsibilities or new title is awarded. Students who spend six hours a day in class with teachers during the shool week, spend 18 hours at home. Students who spend a total of 30-35 hours in school during the week are at home almost 140 hours each week. When

students are home for summer vacation, they spend all their time with parents , family members and friends who may or may not make grammar a priority. In order to break this cycle, public schools must do a better job of emphasizing the importance of good grammar. Grammar must be a priority, not just in English class, but in every calss and also every home. All school employees must correct students when they use words incorrectly so that proper usage becomes a habit: one that lasts a lifetime. School personnel must receive a regular staff development to learn good grammar and to educate employees who need additional training. Also, more programs must be implemented to teach parents and grandparents grammar. Bad grammar is passed from generation to generation. Bad grammar can be eradicated in the Philippines through a comprehensive, statewide effort focusing on children and all who teach them. The cycle of bad grammar can, and must be broken.

What’s Hot

veryone possesses their own impression and notion about the latest fad. Grown-ups would say it is just another reason why youngsters of today got screwed up while others would say that Planking is simply for fun and nothing else.

Photos taken from: the World Wide Web

16

Planking and its Origin Planking is not just a game at all. It is also a form of exercise which involves holding a position. Moreover, the phenomenon which crazes the youngsters is the activity of lying face down in a bizarre or incongruous location or either in public places, in which the hands must touch the sides of the body. It is also referred as mimicking a wooden plank or lath of which rigidity of the body must be maintained to constitute good planking.

Since early 2011, many participants of planking have photographed the activity on unusual locations, such as on atop poles, roofs, vehicles and even at the center of a busy street. And some “plankers” engage in this activity by planking only their upper body and feet while leaving the back suspended. Googling on the Internet, it has been first acknowledged in Australia as “planking” and later on as “Lying Down Game”, which has a similar origin as a Facebook group started in 2006. Although it is not directly related to the social network, parallel practices of bizarre photograph poses have been seen on the Korean website known as the “playing dead” in 2003, “a plat vetre” (on one’s belly) in the French in 2004, “Facedown” in United States of America and Ireland in 2010, “Planking” in New Zealand and in other countries” in Australasia as “Extreme Lying Down” in year 2011. The Guidelines The game quickly caught the youth and made an internet phenomenon. The English duo who took credit for its invention and was profiled in 2009 column in the Toronto Star created a Facebook group and a website---who trendily declaimed: “The originators of the Lying Down Game cannot be held liable for any accidents, injuries or criminal proceedings.” And yet there are clear-cut guidelines on planking that emerges according to the official Facebook page: •You must constantly face down, ensuring your face remains expressionless for the duration of the plank. •Your legs must stay straight, altogether with the toes pointed. •Your arms must be placed by your side, hold straight and fingers pointed. •You must make it known that you are planking. Saying “I am planking,” usually get this across, sternly announcing it will ensure a good result.

•Your safety should always be considered. Appropriately thought through planking measures ought to always go to plan. Never put yourself at uncalled menace, if necessary. •Every plank that is captured has to be named. The official Planking Facebook page has over 180,000 fans and millions of pictures showcasing the best plankers around the world. Katy Perry is just the latest celebrity to get caught up on the up-to-the-minute internet craze. Perry posted subsequent photos, showing her lying face down with arms and legs stretched out on top of a boat along a description, “plankingonthe4th” on www.

allieisweired.com Unfortunately, it is no longer considered as for fun and leisure. The authorities, educators and the government officials, are more concerned on several persons who get into an accident, some even died in an attempt to plank in uncertain spots and making themselves hangon-air for hours just to break the record of staying the longest in a planking position. The Anti-Planking Bill of 2011 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. This Act shall be known as the “Anti-Planking Act of 2011”. SEC. 2. A universal Code of Student Conduct is hereby prescribed where planking as a form of redress of grievance be strictly prohibited and appropriate sanctions be applied for violations thereof. SEC. 3. Under this Act, planking is when a student or group of students lies face down in unusual locations especially in streets or other public places, keeping the hands along the body and the feet outstretched and especially where such act is meant as a form of redress of grievance against government.

17

SEC. 4 Every bonafide student from any school, college or university shall conduct himself with high degree of discipline and propriety. SEC. 5. The Department of Education in the case of elementary and high school students and the Commission on Higher Education in the case of college students shall draft a universal Code of Student Conduct to carry out the provisions of this Act. Further, DepEd and CHED, respectively shall issue appropriate rules and regulations to effectively carry out intent and purpose of this Act. SEC. 6. This Act shall take effect ninety (90) days after its publication in the Official Gazette and in at least three (3) newspapers of general circulation. Here in the Philippines, Filipino who acquainted that their country is view to be the unofficial networking sites capital of the world didn’t desire to be just left behind with this fad. Filipino even produced a facebook fan page devoted for the activity, the Planking PINAS. The facebook fan page had now boom to 103,327 members as of this time and still counting. Nevertheless, it gives the impressions that some politicians are traversing along with the trends’ fame as one congressman here in the Philippines had authored a law that forbids planking here in our country which said that individual or group of individual that caught on a planking pose would be sanctioned. What’s more, the nature on why did this proposed bill was made raised many eyebrows for it comes into a view that the proposed law by Congressman Winston Castelo was made just because of the streets protesters last Monday, September 20, 2011, planked in the middle of the streets with their banned that signify their fight against mainly on the oil price hikes. The Rough Planking was defined by the Antiplanking Act of 2011 proposed bill, which said that...

18

If only they would just going to omit the word “especially”, it would clearly define that the prohibited planking is planking which has an intention to oppose the government. The CTU Planking Community “Planking is having fun at all, it is used to be a medium to express oneself, improve confidence and getting a ride on the craze,” said by the group who tag their selves as the ‘SOULDABOIZ’ through a NB interview. They said that the main function of this group is to show up the best plank from the uploaded photos from all the CTU students from all the campuses and satellites. Of which the term planking itself never needs to be at risk. They proposed on the page a message that says, “You should never lay on hazardous circumstances, like having plank on top most of the buildings and even on high rails. The group also questioned the newly draft bill as they said that the act is too exaggerated than the act of planking itself, “ O.a ra siya, it is not right to make it as a bill just because of that rally, over ra jud,” said by a group member. The said group also shared their plans; the Mass Planking which is supposedly have before the CTU Anniversary and Centennial Celebration, “It wasn’t come up because we are too busy that time and other heads of the group were having their OJT ( Wala jud to siya nadayun kay busy man gud kaau ta ato nga time, then and uban nga admin’s kai nag OJT sad), in an informal language.” But they told to the NB that they are planning to have a CTU Plank contest of which they will give incentives to the winning entries from all the posted and upcoming pictures. This will be done through an online voting and the counted likes. “It will be a contest, yet it is still a plan and we need to confirm it first to Sir Marion Raboy, the head of all the CTU Online Group.” “We are also inviting all the CTU students to like all the online groups, shared their comments or anything they want to shared (just avoid those vulgar words) and it will be better if they get involve on the group.”

Under this Act, “Planking is when a student or group of students lies face down in unusual locations especially in streets or other public places, keeping the hands along the body and the feet outstretched and especially where such act is meant as a form of redress of grievance against government.” -Under section 3 of the proposed bill.

After everything else

Which makes a mindboggling expression for youngsters and planking enthusiasts for the word “especially” for it would mean that you can also be sanction even though your planking isn’t a form of redress of grievance against the government, or to any person that is.

Having a good portrait of plank and full-size impression from astounding comments by different netizens (internet citizens) doesn’t have to deal with any perils.

Planking is an internet phenomenon of which teenagers are fond on having a ride. Yet the risk of it depends on how it is exhibit and that what makes it so alarming for any grown-ups who have a big apprehension to the plank-enthusiasts.

hectic school day returns after a tranquilizing weekend. Here comes your newly- bought and hard-earned blackberry cellphone remaining dirt-free and ready to be used. Suddenly, in your surprise, It’s already missing and nowhere to be found. Questions and qualms are racing in mind. Who is to blame? What a sad reality for each of us to be physically responsive considering that this predicament is widespread these days. Life is at stake when you are unaware of such things. Therefore an absolute need for responsibility and awareness is obligatory. Here are the top 5 considered personal properties that CTUnians might not be sentient of losing within the campus premises. Beware! You might have one of them.

By: Niq Stuff like handkerchiefs, ribbons, pocketbooks, handy mirrors, combs and most of the feminine accessories could really upset one’s day when they suddenly vanish. Abrupt need for such things has already been part of the daily routine. Among peers, Attending classes devoid of securing all principal requirements is borrowing always exist but sometimes, others tend a big loss .The School ID is one which is your foremost passport to be slapdash in handling possessions that are not upon entering the school. Be cautious of not losing it. If it’s theirs that’s why maybe, a borrower’s card today is accidentally misplaced, just set yourself for an alternative remedy in ending this the consequences. Calculators, T-squares and ongoing dilemma. notebooks are some that would somehow frustrate a strict professor‘s day. For some instances, items like library cards, deposit claim baggage numbers in places such as the Library are not actually secure from rushing students. Have you observe most of the time even really happens particularly throughout busy periods both in day and evening programs. Trouble arises among students on several cases of missing files. A big question mark leaves a distress on their faces bothered with curiosity on why these things suddenly disappear. Notable documents might be one. It comprises of certificates, transcripts and forms .For instance, the TOR (Transcript THE TRUTH: Myriad products of technology persistently of Records) must be safely kept to easy invade our lives. Carelessness VS Discretion

Nowadays, we can’t figure out why our personal belongings vanished quickly unexpectedly. We are to blame on this problem which continues to bother us in everywhere we may be. Nothing is harmful if we ourselves keep in mind the worth of the things we own. It must be cherished, just as simple as that. Due to other affiliations, we sometimes forget to muse on how things are weighed. More or less, let us remember about this quandary on how it’s going to be stopped and prevented by being responsible enough on our own ways since we are victims of negligence.

Money matters. A twenty-peso bill might rapidly disappear in one’s pocket when not kept personally. Bear in mind that every centavo your parents earn is the result of their hard work and time just to send you in school. Commit to memory that financial obligations like tuition fee payments must be vigilantly paid right away to shun from unpredicted inconveniences chiefly all through enrolment and examination schedules. Money is as important as what you are paying for the internet cafe. Other costs go to group projects and gatherings in school like Culminating Festivities just to mention.

ow grateful is it to be at peace, when your goals are attained from fortitude and insistence. This could upshot an exultant victory that students can guarantee of having an unperturbed life, since nothing is improbable. It’s exceptional that the importance of our existence is in the merit of being a learner and at the same time as a teacher, too. Learning serves as a channel upon a student’s quest for best education that a parent would try to provide as it open prospects not only to something limited, but as well as to infinite vision. A Technological Revolution In connection with CTU’s incessant progress, further advancements also augmented in particular. The new courses which started to emerge are part of the school’s “Technological Revolution” assessing interested applicants realizes their precise target: to come across the needs of the outside industry. A salute to our strong and competitive leaders who were in union upon accomplishing possible realities like this. Launching of the New Courses Last 2010, doors were opened to the newbie’s interested in the so called new course Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics (BSMX) or commonly called” Mechatronics” which is under the College of Technology. The new program aims to enhance the individual’s ability to contribute into the outside industries needs particularly Electrical and Mechanical Operations. With the on-going demand of some vast corporations maneuvering all over the world, no wonder that employment vacancies had also increased around in every corner.

The recent boost of technology paved way of how companies ensure growth and customer satisfaction because there are a lot of jobs that require knowledge in computer applications. Knowing that is very dominant in the society now, skills and abilities from students are needed principally on managing software design. In line with this, CTU initiated Bachelor of Science in Graphics and Design (BSGD) which helps students learn not only about web designing and video editing but also Animation, Photo Manipulation, plus Product lay-outing. Before its conversion into a University, CSCST promoted Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Services (BSHRST). Last 2010, it was then changed into Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) for those students having interest of becoming future hoteliers, bar managers, restaurant supervisors and etc., this course is inevitable for you. Handling hotel guest service operations, Cooking, Events Management, and Bartending Procedures are some of which are learned here. With further increase of demand, the Airline and Tourism sector is one of those fast thriving industries that help the country’s need for development and progress. Both local and international tourism can help regenerate income for businesses in the country. The Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTRM) specifically aims to enhance this industry. The program which has been endorsed last year by the College of Technology (COT) is said to expand proficiency in Airline operations chiefly in customer service processeses.

Teachers take the opportunity to encourage every student’s aspiration by giving them the best education they deserve. It is because the learning process doesn’t just circulate in the 4 walls of the classroom, but within the person’s knowledge and skills.

In every field that a student may choose, his capability is tested through different learning mediums, it maybe through books or the internet. Since some may excel academically and others might still heed on the course that they are choosing.

My Talent Is Not Graded

ome teachers don’t give up on you. And some put you on a scary, high-end pedestal. Either way, you remember both. There are times when a student cannot excel in just about everything he tries to do. There are other lessons that are easier to learn, and they are bound to be outside those classroom walls. Exams may come off frustratingly difficult to answer, some subjects are easier to master and some,..well, they just keep you awake at night so you can figure out how teacher did it, or what teacher said. There will always be some student little groups that one would belong to. And these are where we are free to do the things we love to do under the guidance of the institution. There will be dance clubs, the choir, the student body, the varsity-these are where we’ll find ourselves to be when it comes to talent. Usually, they don’t measure up to the figures in your exam scores or your grade sheet. Just because it doesn’t! This is what some of our beloved teachers fail to see. Sometimes when you get just a passing grade on midterms, she’ll look you right in the eye and shake their heads. Probably wondering why you didn’t do too well. Probably not. They just really try to figure out why some student can be the University’s basketball champ, yet her class’ most terrible math problem solver. Well, ma’am, if you don’t mind, basketball is totally different. For good players, it’s easier to shoot a ball than do rebounds on your testpaper. The player didn’t earn those points by browsing on his algebra textbook just as he won’t earn good grades by being so damn good at the basketball court. Some students get both their mentors’ and fellow students’ respect by being good

student leaders. Too bad that there’s a kind of teacher who evaluates them in class, the same way as how they lead. They go crying out, “Why did he ever run for student body president when he didn’t once get a perfect score or higher than 65 on a 100-point exams given to their class?” Question sir, why do you ever expect that much when you know that leading is not the same as getting all the answers right in your quizzes and exams? The student might have tried hard, but somebody else is bound to be twice or many times better than him on your subject or course being taught. You make it sound like being a student leader means being academically excellent. Don’t base our academic performance on our other abilities. They just don’t match 95% of the time. Our talents aren’t graded. We are leaders, we can be the best student dancer, the school’s most popular singer or captain of the debate team but that won’t always equate to getting the highest scores in class. You see, lessons you taught us don’t always come right off the bat when it comes to learning them. But talent does. Don’t question us like it’s such a shame to be so good at something and mediocre or bad at another thing, especially if it’s your subject. We can’t simply have it all.

Pedagogy of the Oppressed instead of enjoying the affairs and events held this week!

ow does it feel to be unwillingly committed to your academic obligations during students’ week? It is like suicide! It feels like nothing else but to be damn frustrated. It is like receiving the sweetest message from your long-time crush but upon scrolling down to the last part, is a capital G and M. Or a T.G.I.F. then your parents suddenly gives you a ring to take you in-charge for watching over your younger siblings since they will be out for a business trip the whole weekend. Thinking about oppressing instructors can alone enrage me with great disgust. Who would not loathe their kind and so as their bone-cracking assignments, especially if these were to be done on the intramural week? A midterm examination was given and an output was done to be submitted on a Monday - the opening of the intramural. Then a video-resume to be handed to our instructor before the end of the week, a number of written activities to be answered, and a research output to be submitted on the following week were given to be carried out a.s.a.p. Imagine writhing out yourself to finish all of these given tasks

A n d with these tasks is an entailed statement: Everyone must involve him/herself with any of the activities and events. You must let your coach or handler sign a letter, proving that you have committed yourself to the said event. And be informed that you have to prepare a presentation for the culminating program for the Buwan ng Wika. The nerve! How could we attend two commitments at a time? They are nothing but a bunch of wicked oppressors, laughing their hearts out as the oppressed students go dilly- dallying over the limping activities. Nobody knows what goes through their minds or if anything good has ever flowed in their veins. They tend to intentionally make students’ life miserable. Instead of helping us out to improve with the knowledge which they are supposed to impart to us, they rather seem to be born just to make us feel that schooling is like a burning hell. They exist as if to fill the role of the antagonists in each of our own life story. Well, as long as the administration prefers the pedagogy of the oppressed technique, students lay still like the underdogs that they’ve all made us become.

The College of technology felt the need of having a subject that teaches the IT and ICT students about the importance of Environmentalism before they are sent to the field. However, being enrolled in the course simply wasn’t enough to base what they had learned for one whole semester. This is when Professor Vicentillo encouraged the rest of his students in an immersion which highlights outreach programs and teaching solid waste management in at least 3 barangays: One in Olanggo Island and two in Consolacion, Cebu. The activity included a clean-up drive headed by the College of Technology’s Environmental Management students. It was something more than what they had all expected as residents took part, showing interest for the activity. It was even more than what the baranggay officials expected as they showed gratitude by awarding the College of Technology a plaque of recognition through the efforts of Prof. Benjamin Vicentillo and his students.

hat should have been a simple course requirement turned out to be way beyond that. In June of 2011, the College of Technology introduced a subject called Environmental and Quality Management to 3rd year BSIT and BSICT students as a requirement before they can do their On-the-Job-Training. Being a former employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for nine years, Prof. Benjamin C. Vicentillo was assigned to handle 5 sections, completing more than 160 students who were enrolled in this course.

In October of 2011, they were featured in ABS-CBN Cebu’s TV patrol “Campus Watch” segment. It was something that CTU could be well proud of because it showed the students, representing the University’s concern to the environment, and at the same time encouraging other young people to do the same. The series of lectures and demonstration in solid-waste management were conducted in the three barangays, with market vendors and residents, as part of the College of Technology’s Environmental Outreach Program. Not bad, because we all know we could use a lot more green in our surroundings, not to mention that the immersion was noted by the Muncipality of Consolacion as an act worthy of recognition.

hitlist ere are the answers to the women who ask about men, straight from the Askmen.com. Survey has proved that these are the type of girls that men wanted to date.

Miss Sugar-Coated

Miss No Pressure

Miss Sugar-coated is a genuine person without a bitch in her bone. She has a lot of guy friends but love no other than her boyfriend. Her natural sweetness makes her beloved and irresistible. She is willing to take you out on a romantic date and share her jokes that make you laugh out loud. Miss Sugarcoated is a bubbly type of a girl that you will never search for more.

While other women wanted that relationship to last long until they get married, Miss No Pressure takes it slow, easy and without commitment at all. She may want to be a wife but she is in no hurry- she thinks that if it happens, it will happen naturally. Her virtue comes from enjoyment of life and taking it on control. She is sweet but she hardly shows it.

Miss Fair Share

Miss Congeniality

Miss Fair Share believes in a 50-50 relationship. She is not the type of girl who says, “I demand equal rights and equal salary, but still the man has to pay for me.” She is willing to pay half of your date expenses. Definitely she can’t always afford for her own expense but she knows how to budget so you’ll never run out. This is a rare kind of a girl so she is worth keeping.

This type of a woman is a sure catch. Her intelligence, wit and personality lights up the day and draws people like magnet. She may not be “Miss World” although she could be but her convincing power will make you feel in love with her. Miss Congeniality is a charming person that reflects on her personality. She will never bargain on man who is a fault finder.

Miss Aggressive She is no nymphomaniac. She just loves to make love to the person whom she thinks deserves it. She is giving it to the highest bidder. Other women might hate her because she just gives sex free of charge but she is not what you think she is. Men would like her because she’s a free-spirit girl who is actually honest with her sexual aggressiveness.

Miss Practical

Miss Best Friend She likes the things that you like. You can grab her right away if you want someone to talk to. She knows you are about to cry even without saying a word. She knows how to make you laugh and most of all; she never asks anything in return. You spend five minutes with her and think that you’ve known her for years. Though she is the best friend material, be extra careful on saying phrases like, “let’s just be friends.” Cause you just might get it.

Miss Frank Miss Frank is the type of a woman who says what wants to say. She voices out that there is something wrong with your relationship and tries to fix it as soon as possible with an open communication. Her spontaneity makes it more natural to her. Although she may be blunt at times, at least you’ll know where you stand and you’ll never have to spend hours trying to decode contradictory or emotion-based female behaviour.

Miss Practical is the rare, modern woman. She doesn’t care how much money you have in your pocket. She is thrifty just like mom, so you don’t have to worry for an expensive date. She likes you for who you are and not for what she can take from you. She is an exclusive woman for a husband-to-be.

Miss Independent If you are in a relationship that needs a lot of space but still wanted to be committed, then here is Miss Independent. She is a loyal woman who wouldn’t exchange you for a heartthrob in the campus. Miss Independent has a life of her own. She doesn’t need constant attention and she is going in her positive direction. However, when both partners are compatible, standards are no longer on the top list.

Fun Facts: •There are about 250 species of turtles. •The largest turtle is the leatherback turtle: shell length is 8 feet long; it weighs about 1,800 pounds. •Though turtles are very slow on land (3 to 4 mph), leatherback turtles can swim at 22 mph. •A turtle shell (made up of 60 bones) is attached to its spine – the reason why turtles can feel pain through their shell.

are waiting for a chance to break them open while they’re still young.

•Turtles do not have ears to hear – they only feel vibrations. However, their sense of smell is strong. •Airplanes in America collide with an average of 4 turtles a year on runways (according to federal records.[4] •Some hatchlings come out with a yolk sack that contains nourishments for a few days before they are completely on their own. •New born hatchling turtles on average swim about 25 miles in 30 hours. •The average turtle swims at a pace of 10 to 12 mph and walks at 3 to 4 mph. •The fastest speed claimed and proven by any reptile is 22 mph by a frightened pacific leatherback. •One adult wood turtle covered a distance of 450 feet in 25 minutes, a rate of 0.2 mile per hour. A migrating bog turtle, on the other hand, traveled just 56 feet in a day and took two weeks to cross a meadow 600 feet wide.[2]

ands down for the world’s most patient reptile of all, the turtle! Moving at an average speed of 3 to 4 mph,[2] the turtle has been widely known for its incredible slowness (tortoises being slower than them). Even so, people respect it because of their so-called “wisdom.” But behind the façade of wisdom and knowledge, what is a turtle, really? What kind of stories does it hide inside its shell? Under what circumstances can you call a turtle a survivor even better than humans? According to Wikipedia, “Turtles are reptiles of the order Testudines (the crown group of the superorder Chelonia), characterized by a special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs that acts as a shield.” And so we get to know our little friends a little. Let’s make a background check on our little friends.[1]

A turtle’s life starts right after the mother lays its egg just as a human’s life starts right after conception. A mother turtle lays about 150 - 2000 eggs everytime it lays. When the mother has found a perfect spot on the sands to lay its eggs, it buries them and leaves it for good to swim into the vast ocean, never to fetch them or

feed them, leaving with good faith that the little eggs can take care of themselves, only coming back to lay another batch of eggs. Pretty tough for these little guys. But things normally don’t turn out good like how the mother had hoped. Eggs as they are, they are vulnerable to threats both inside and outside. Inside, tumors known as fibropapilloma, lobeshaped tumors, grow and infect all the soft portions of a turtle’s body, increasing in size and number causing the turtle to be seriously debilitated, commonly resulting to death. Outside, predators, such as raccoons, minks, possums, and even us humans, threaten the existence of these youngsters.[3] Still, the lucky few of the batch make it out alive, breaking their eggs with an egg tooth. Hatchlings have to wade their way into the ocean, crawling in numbers on the beach. Even going home is a difficult thing for the little guys as they have to constantly battle the furious waves of the mighty ocean which continually push them back ashore as if it refuses to accept them. It’s a sight to see the little ones struggle the great fight to get into the ocean. But still, with great determination and animal instinct, the great little guys finally make it home: a place full of wonder, full of danger, and a place where everybody would no longer call them the slowest creature on earth. They will continue to battle it ‘til the last of their strength, for even in a place they can call home, lots of predators

There, it will grow and live. And strive to survive. Once they reach sexual maturity, they will seek out their mates and find a nesting home. Females are the only ones that go ashore to lay eggs, normally in the place where they are born.[6] Too bad only females look back. Like what James Bryant Conant had said, “…the turtle… makes progress only when he sticks his neck out.”[5] A turtle never gives up, continuing to stick out its neck so it could move on and have progress, carrying its own home along with it. How this is related to the other articles you ask? A turtle is a centennial animal, living for about 100 or 150 years (which means information given in Finding Nemo about turtles was accurate).[4] And bothering to point it out, our school had just turned 100 last November 20, 2011. Just like the old turtle, even when we move at a slow pace, about 3 to 4 mph (kidding), even if we face adversaries while some of our colleges are still hatchlings, and even if threats can also exist within, let’s continue to risk ourselves and stick our necks out so we could move on and make progress, surviving, living, making friends, and continuing to grow, and somehow, become like the turtles, except for the ‘leave your kids’ part (aren’t we humans lucky?): survivors in the face of life. “Try to be like the turtle – at ease in your own shell.” – Bill Copeland. GET TO KNOW OUR CHARTER By: April Agnes Agalado ike any other publication, the Nation Builder, also came from the humblest of beginnings. It may not be as old as the University, but its tale, its journey, its challenges, its hopes, is just as worth telling. NB is around seventy years old, although no one who can give a testimony ever found out the exact figures of exactly how old it is. Even so, people who had been part of it from yesteryears say it had sprung from a piece of paper. After which a whole system formed, making NB grow just as what its predecessors had dreamed of making it to be. From a simple newsletter, to broadsheet and later on making itself known as a magazine filled with updates and information that everybody has to know, and finally making it a handy foliolike magazine with a glossy cover that goes with your trend. That being said, you must be wondering what NB really is; the management of funds, the people inside, laws that govern it and the sort of legalities concerning your Official Student Publication as a whole. n celebrating one hundred years, we cannot help but ask our fellow CTUnians what keeps them in good vibes, what inspires them, what will keep them coming back in the gates of this institution in the future, or what they think could be better about CTU as a whole. Surely, we will be more than glad to speak out, eh? After all, this is our paper, our school, our culture. Here are a few among the thousands of students who dared to answer when they were bombarded with the question about what they or what they don’t like in CTUmain. Hear them out; heed their words if you must. Their sentiments may be the same as yours, then again, it may be different:

DECOUPAGE section

as the pen or the pencil dipped so deep in the blood of the human race as the needle?” This was a quote that i had read not so many days ago as I was looking at a back page of a book. Those words sank deep into my mind and made me contemplate. My brain whirled and like a scene on a movie, a caveman carving on the wall of a cave and Shakespeare writing his sonnets flashed into my mind. Even from the beginning of our race, great minds have seen a need to carve or write something where one may read or understand so that future generations can learn from it. These written records are sources of today’s knowledge and even entertainment. But that’s not all. It is also a medium for the minds and the hearts of the writer and the reader to communicate and relate. In this issue of the Nation Builder Literary Pages, we do not want the writing to end. We write with more passion, more energy of the soul. So that you my dear friends would have more, more because you know this is a fine wine of a life richer as it ages.

erfection is an immense word in our world today. All over the place individual looks; the strain of being perfect is starring them in their features. God made humans with the ability to construct his personal verdicts; sorry to say, this as well meant man may perhaps be able to have sins. These features provide evidence that while man is at a standstill on this earth, perfection is doomed to a failure goal. But in the face of this cold hard truth, mankind still has their kicks to find perfection in their life. Life form of perfect has lot things to do by way of the manner things are run these days. Many people strive for this goal by paying for things that they imagine will aid them attain this aim of perfection because those thoughts were fixed upon their minds, the instance that they were intuitive. In the status of women, most of them desire for a perfect body or a perfect relationship. Many men, perhaps, likely more worried about the substantial resources of life: car, money, clothes and anything they want to even job. If one gazes in the natural world of mankind, it is straightforward to perceive that they attempt to reach perfection in dreams and wishes of their lives. Man tries to have these dreams all the way through dedication, effort and the attitude of persistence. Many of their dreams are considered accomplished, but they are by no means of wholly achieved.

stories on the road

“The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it, that its works are evil.” John7:7 The earth was covered by dark clouds that even the light from heaven couldn’t pass. Dark forces ruled the place. Heaven had a hard time healing it so it sent its great warriors down to earth. There were seven of them and they called themselves the archangels from heaven. To fight the good entities, hell itself also sent fallen angels. At present, chaos still covered everything. I say, the archangels failed except for one, Gabriel for he has a human child. My name is Matthew and it’s my duty to call my father, a failure. “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, Amen,” we said, as we solemnly affixed the sign of the cross. Everybody was crying. They threw flowers as my mom’s wooden coffin was covered with dirt. I didn’t cry even a drop of tear. As I was waiting alone under the Calachuchi tree, I heard voices echoing in my ears. My head ached as it was filled with words I couldn’t really decipher. I can’t even tell who, or where they came from. “Matt!” I burst my consciousness when Diane, my childhood friend called me. “What happened to you? You seem so pale. Are you okay?” “Yeah, I’m fine.” After the burial underneath the dark stormy clouds and the cold breeze, we went home. I felt the flame of revenge burning inside my body as I recalled how Samuel

37

essay crushed the lives of my father and mother. He is the ruler of the darkness happening here on Earth. He is the cause of the failure of the archangels who descended here on this dark land. He tempted Michael, the greatest warrior in heaven, whom his brother, my father, killed at a battle when Gabriel forced him to return to his side. I must take my revenge once and for all. I got the coat which my father used during his battle against Samuel and the weapons he gave me before he died. I put the two sharp angel daggers at the back of my waist and the two silencer- handguns side by side. “Where are you going? Dianne asked. “I’m going to take my revenge.” You don’t stand a chance. He’s so powerful that even angels failed to--. I’m the son of Archangel Gabriel. I have his blood, his strength and his honor. I screamed. Silence took over the house. You really look like your father. Take me with you. I know where he is and I’m going to take him down. I’ll show him that sparing me would be his greatest flaw. I’ll be back. It’s so dangerous, so dangerous and i can’t lose you. You’re the only one I have left, I said as I held her hand. She didn’t say anything, tears dashing down on her checks. I left without looking back. I went to the dirty, lusty club where Samuel stayed. I saw women dancing on poles and guys intimately kissing girls. Drinks and gambling were everywhere. I directly went upstairs where he was taking his drink. I crushed the door of Samuel’s room. His men were surprised but he wasn’t. He still looked like he did before. His long semi- straight hair covered his face leaving his red eye visible. He stared at me with his lips smiling. I didn’t know you’re coming. I knew he wasn’t lying because I’m human. He couldn’t detect my presence. I’m here to vanquish your darkness. Prepare to die. Ha! Ha! Ha!, Samuel laughed. You think you can kill me? Are you underestimating me? Remember, I killed all the angels, including your weak father. My blood reached its highest temperature that I started attacking him. His five men blocked my way and tried to crush me. I drew my daggers, slicing their muscular limbs and striking their chests until their hearts were torn to pieces. Blood covered my blade and was spattered all over my coat and face. One man was left. He drew his gun but I drew mine first and shot him on the head. Samuel laughed with anger on his face. You are really good among all men but you will never be able to touch or even give a scratch on the face of true evil! Grrrhh!! He attacked me with his true power. He looked at me with a sinister smile but I had the courage of revenge and the power of believing that I can save humanity by killing Samuel. His claws were about to reap my rugged body but the dagger of my hand slashed his head off. Samuel died. I staggered towards the window to see the outside. Everything was still dark. The power of darkness possessed by Samuel scattered over the land and the minds of people that I couldn’t manage to take all went down with his dying body. At least I did my part. It wasn’t my father who failed but its I. You hear me good heavens! Descend your angels now for the ruler has fallen in my hands!, Light filled my eyes as I closed them. And now, I hear those echoing voices again clearly like music to my ears. The darkness that hindered them vanished. Then the voices I heard united as one saying, “This is the day of vengeance that all things which are written have fulfilled. Come with me my child and live with me. Let my angels finish what you’ve started. You failed not.”

here are lots of definitions about music. But according to the dictionary, music is the art of combining tones into a composition having structure and continuity, vocal or instrumental sounds having rhythm, melody or harmony. All people love music. Whatever it is or where ever it comes from it can catch the heart of a person. The harmony can give peace of mind, simple thought or can even ease the pain inside one’s heart. You can dance to the rhythm of the beat and even be mesmerized with the flow of a silent sound. Jazz, Pop, Ballad, Classic, Instrumental and Alternative, Rock or Cultural, any of this can give meaning to one’s life. Music can sometimes be manifested in having the ability to understand wide range of thoughts and appreciate different and contrasting personalities. By listening to speech, cries and laughter, we learn what other people think and how they feel. Music is a big part of everyday life. Without music, our lives would be boring and quiet. I’m sure that there is not one person throughout the world who hasn’t heard some kind of music even a baby love to listen to their mother’s lullaby. Music can bring people together because it can be universal. In music we have different taste but it does not discriminate on race, colour or even on a gender of a person. Music has made great impact on me in many ways. I’m sure it has also made an impact on many others in the world. Growing up, being caught dancing and singing in the mirror is one of the craziest and most enjoyable memories in my childhood days even though I didn’t have any of those talents. Let’s just say music is like an escape for me. It becomes my comfort zone that only I can control over. It keeps me going all day and makes me more upbeat. It gives me a positive vibe on many things. I believe that anything you do is better with music. It’s up to you in what ways you want to express your feelings and emotions. No matter what type of music you choose, what’s important is that it expresses what kind person you are in the eyes of others or even on yourself.

stories on the road

and I was still taking my chances.

t was early in July when I first remembered her crossing my mind. She was tall, pale, and she dressed like a male. I was already keeping my eyes on her for a while and I never knew she even liked me. Not until that one regular afternoon that was about to change my life forever. We were in our Speech class and I was having one of my gloomy afternoons in college. I accidentally made the big mistake of telling my buddy, Joe that I’ve got this crush on our classmate Letty. Yes, that was her name which was not really unusual. Now Joe, with his I daresay, barbaric manner, made it a point to spread the whole thing like a virus and it reached no less than our closest friends in class who were more than happy to tease me. So the chant began with my name and Letty’s like we were already a couple. I was somehow thankful that she was busy making a report, but the rest of my classmates were just as busy making quite a noise on teasing me. To my horror, it somehow reached ears unscathed and she was already asking Angelo, another of my close friends, what was going on. She said, “Why are you people saying and dragging his name with mine, right to my very face?” Oh no, she wasn’t angry. She just looked questioningly at Angelo while he answered her with a smirk, “He likes you Letty, don’t you know that?” Well, I was told she was surprised and told Angelo, “I feel the same, but he shouldn’t know.” It so happened that our classmate was a trusted “secret-keeper” but he wasn’t good enough to be vulnerable from eavesdroppers. And so the despicable me soon heard about this supposed “crush” too. Two days passed, and sure enough, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. She was by far, more than enough for my standards. I then made a decision to get close to her even through feelings of doubt. I just thought I had to take the chance to prove that I really like her. Later that month, I asked a favour from a friend to get Letty to let me walk her to the bus station. It was a gamble, but it was worth the while. It was one of the happiest moments of my life, when she said yes, grabbed her things and went with me. I was hastening my movements, like it was only me walking home. I was embarrassed with the way I was acting and

asked her apologies. She laughed and said it was nothing and that I ought to calm down. When I felt more relaxed, we started talking about things we like and about music. She was thoughtful and it caught me off guard. I was running out of words but we were already at the bus station. I bid her goodbye and I, in turn, walked home feeling so satisfied. Walking with a girl, almost walking her home, and to think that it was my first. It felt so good. For more than two weeks, I did the same thing, took the same route with her, and finally decided to officially court her. I wanted to show her just how deep my affection was, so I thought, “flowers!” Ramona, one of my friends who was gay, lived near a flower shop, and I asked him a little late in the evening already to buy some roses. He did a good job in preserving those roses by putting them in the fridge, by the way. The next morning, I made my move which was not bad for a first-timer. I asked her , trying to hide my nervousness, “Can I court you?” And to my delight, she answered with a smile, “yes you can.” I thought I was dreaming. After that, Letty and I found ourselves exchanging our works, with each other’s signature on them, in one of our drawing classes.

I didn’t give up mainly because she was still rather sweet especially when we watched a horror movie and she held on to me, saying it was her first, holding a guy’s hand, doing that with a guy. At the end of that week, I waited for her until evening and decided to ride with her home. On the bus, she fell asleep with her head on my shoulder and for me..it was kind of, well..romantic. It felt as close as really being a couple, though we weren’t. I didn’t know that it was the last sweet moment I’d have with her. September came, and one day, she didn’t come to school. When she showed up the next day, she came up to me and said we should talk. I had a bad feeling about it so I went to church and prayed for God to clear my mind. When I came back to school, Letty was waiting and she had that worried look on her face. The look that told you that your heart is about to be broken. She was already talking and I watched my heart shatter to pieces. “Thanks for everything.....” I was so confused but she told me no, there was no other man. How was I supposed to believe that when I also knew she had a crush on a fellow member of her club? I asked for another chance but she said her decision is final. I had no other choice, so I headed home with a heavy feeling. I didn’t know what to think about and I didn’t care anymore about what would happen tomorrow. I let a month pass and with the help of my friends, I was slowly moving on.

I’m just another young man who chased not just another young girl but all the same, I Three more weeks passed and I was learned to let go instead of wait for something that still courting her. I remembered it was the week wouldn’t really come. If you had loved someone of our sportsfest at school when I wondered and got a broken heart in return, well, you’re not the where she was. I understood she was part of the first, not the only one, not the last. than her own child. Whatever. “Thanks babe. Are you still mad?” I said. “Drink that coffee. It’ll help you.” and he walked away. never asked you to choose me. I just want you to stay. I took a sip of my Vodka. Staring nothing on the corner where everyone seems so happy while enjoying each other’s company, the drinks and the lights. “This whole place is feeling me tipsy.” I murmur to myself. “Or that bottle of alcohol is feeling you dizzy?” says someone at my back. No, I think it was just my conscience. I should’ve let my boyfriend know where I am now. “Drinking yourself again to drunk?” says the familiar voice. “Come on, let’s go, I’ll drive you home.” “Where’s Jack? Didn’t I tell you to text him; I want him to drive me home.” I can’t recognize the person who grabbed the glass away from my hand. I’m not feeling well as I tried to finish my last shot. My vision tried it once more. Height like the varsity, a clean haircut and that distinct body spray, no doubt it’s Peter. He always knew where I hang out alone in a bar. He was always there to pick me up. But even if he knew that I drink more alcohol than him, he never scolded me that girls shouldn’t act that way. “Yes, she’s here with me now. OK. I’ll just drop her there.” Beep. The next day. I woke up with an extended smile in my face, ignoring the hangover as I saw Jack sitting at the edge of the bed with a cup of hot coffee in his hand. “Next time let me know where you are so I won’t be worried, Ok?” and he hand the coffee slowly. He said not to worry about my mom. He already texted her that I’ll be staying overnight at their home. My mom can no longer argue when I’m with Jack, she trusted him more

I wanted to explain why I took off yesterday without even saying goodbye to him. I wanted to tell him for being so stupid to get jealous again with the girl whom he was talking at the library yesterday afternoon. But I knew that he just give it a break. I know he loves me and there is no way for me to get insecure with his friends. Jack is kind, gentleman, consistent dean’s lister and a certified hottie. He shows affection to everyone who deserves it. And he knows his limitations, of course. Even with his stable expression, and fewer words, I know he can’t stay mad at me. So I fixed myself and finish the coffee. My head is really aching. But I need to go home and prepare for school. When I got home, I send a message to Peter.”Hey, how are you?” goes my obvious question. “Fine. Why?” came his obvious reply. -Nothing, just wondering. -Anyways, what happened to the both of you, fighting again? -FYI mister, it was just a misunderstanding. -Whatever crazy little martyr. Let’s go have a coffee. -No thanks, I already had one with Jack this morning. And there was no more reply. That’s Peter, if you say no to his offer then the conversation ends. I arrived late at school. I ran as fast as I can, trying to catch up my 7 o’clock class. I met Jack in the hallway, talking seriously to his bestfriend Peter. “Hi guys. Hi babe. Uhm, see you this lunch at the canteen?” I interrupted as Jack kissed me for a morning greeting.

“Ah, babe, can you just go with Peter

for lunch. I have a lot of things to do, you know, projects to comply,” Jack said. The semester is almost over and graduating students were busy. Then I have to expect more lunchtime without Jack. He knew I’m not used to eating my lunch without him. So he makes sure that Peter is there to cover up. “Ok, can I help you this time? Don’t worry I have no class on Spanish this afternoon,” I pleased like a baby. “No it’s fine. I have to double my time. Don’t worry, I’ll text you as soon as I’m done.” “Ok, I understand. I love you babe.” Jack walked to his room without turning back. Peter and I have our lunch together. I ordered food that we usually eat, with or without Jack. Peter likes seafood while Jack loves ham, so I ordered both of their favourites. “I have shrimps for you. I know you love it so much,” I took a piece to Peter’s mouth but he held and stopped my hand for seconds and move it away from his. “I no longer eat shrimps, Kath. I learned to let go of the things that I love most. They never loved me back anyway, no matter what I do.” I was confused on his words for a minute wondering if he literally meant for the shrimps. I think he was upset for whatever reason but I don’t have the guts to ask. His mood changed a bit and so as mine. We ate quietly, waiting for someone to speak first. “Finish your food and I’ll treat you after this.” Peter finally broke the silence. Atlast! “You know what, good thing you’re my bestfriend and my boyfriend’s bestfriend. Hmm, I think I wanna play bump cars,” I said without awkwardness. And we both laugh like we used to four years ago. It was almost 3 o’clock. Peter and I had a good time at our favourite game spot. We played everything including the rides that we never tried. We enjoyed swiping the card and collecting tickets. After feeling exhausted on playing, we decided to grab some snacks at the food court. While I was waiting for Peter at our table, I roamed my eyes at the place. Until I noticed a familiar guy wearing a familiar shirt. I think he was four-table away from ours. I am myopic so I can’t distinguish the guy far enough.

I remember giving that blue branded shirt to my boyfriend’s birthday last year. I stared, thinking that it was just somebody who has the same shirt as Jack. When I glance on that side again. “Jack?” I exclaimed. But who’s that girl with him? Now my mind is confuse when I realized that the girl was the chick I saw with Jack in the library the other day. I had to assure myself. Peter arrived and noticed it as well. And he did nothing. “I thought his busy for a project?” He said while preparing the table and tossing the can of softdrink to me like we were just watching a thriller. The moment was like the movie on the big screen. You know that scene when the girlfriend saw his guy with a sweet girl and they are intimate? But this is not that movie anymore. This is really happening. I can’t believe it. Jack lied. No! He’s cheating on me. My nerves were shaking and I can’t imagine myself screaming in the middle of the food court and crying like a child who lost her mama. So, I tried to calm myself down. I send a message to Jack. -Hi babe. Where are you now? -At my friend’s home babe. Doing some projects. How are you?” came the reply. Liar! That was all in my mind. The next thing I did, I walked towards their table. Jack looked up as he saw me standing in front of him and that girl. His eyes were calm and he slowly stands as confident as he can be. He seemed happy with the situation. I didn’t wait for his explanation. What I saw was enough for me to know what’s going on. I gathered the force at my palm and slapped him on the left face. And people were staring at us. Maybe it was too much but that was nothing compared to my bleeding heart. How can he be so numb? He touched his reddish face like it was just a mosquito bite. My tears uncontrollably fell out in my eyes and

Peter grabbed me. But his strength was not enough to control the second slap that landed on the other side of Jack’s face. “I trusted you for three years and this is what I’ll get in return? I gave you thousand of chances Jack and forgive your mistakes. I understand you as much as I could and be a perfect lover for you. But I had enough,” I sobbed. I felt like I was betrayed. Tears were like rain. I walked away without even hearing a single voice from him. Peter remained silent but I knew he was there with me the whole time, listening. I expected Jack would run after me. But there was none. I expected he would text me and said “Wait Kath, don’t go. I’m sorry.” But there was none. And what I expected more was an explanation or even a tear from him. But obviously, there was none. I found myself walking in the grass outside the mall. And I noticed my eyes were already dry. And my legs hurt. It was dark and there were few rays of sun behind the mountains. No more birds, only the crickets singing annoying tunes. “Are you tired? Come on, let’s go. I’ll drive you home,” a voice from a distance. I turn around when I heard that familiar phrase and saw Peter standing while catching his breath. He was following me the whole time, patiently waiting for me to feel better. I ran towards him and draw him closer to my arms. I cried again. And this time it was not about what had happened that afternoon. But because I suddenly realized that Peter was always there to catch me every time. The moments flashed fast like a dream. It was Peter who always picks me up when I got drank. It was him whom I cried when things go wrong. It was him who cheers me up when I was disappointed or felt overwhelmed.

He was my bestfriend for four years and his presence always blinded me with my obsession to my

boyfriend. Peter was there in my despair. He was my refuge. “I’m tired of running after you, Kathryn.” I just heard him cried harder in my back. I know the meaning lies behind those words like the shrimps. When we both relieved from a cry, Peter confessed that Jack can no longer fight for our relationship. Maybe he was just confused or whatever. Jack never had the courage to tell the truth because he doesn’t want to hurt me. But that afternoon was the time when he decided that he wants me to discover it myself. “I don’t want to lie Kath, but that morning when you saw us talking to each other, he asked me to bring you to the place where you’ll see him with someone else. I know that was rude but he just can’t say it to you personally. No words came out from my mouth. All I know I was feeling better and better when I grasp the whole story. “I love you Kath and I can’t bear seeing you hurting so much. But you can’t even choose me in the first place,” I saw nothing in his eyes but sincerity. “I-I don’t know what to say, Pete.” “Yeah, I know. You don’t have to say anything. But I assure you, I will never leave you.” And he grabbed my hand tighter than usual and that was special. “Let’s go?” His little gestures let me know how special I am. That moment was priceless. That was my first time I heard Peter saying “I love you” and when he said it, he really meant it. I smiled and kissed him on the cheek. I blushed. I never saw what the expression was painted on Peter’s face after I kissed him but I don’t care. And suddenly he stopped and we stared each other for seconds and finally saw him smiling sweetly. I guess that was the response. And we walked home like nothing had happened. He carries me in his back and we tease each other like eight years old. The day was over and tomorrow is unpredictable. We walked endlessly in the horizon, promising nothing but a long lasting friendship.

She asked me to come over in the park because she didn’t want to be alone, so I did. As I sat next to her, I stared at her soft eyes, wishing she was mine. My heart bleeds to the girl in my facade who doesn’t know how much I care for her. How someone could hurt my girl that I’ve always been dreaming of. And now you’re here. I will always be right by your side. I won’t treat you wrong, because I don’t want to see you cry because with me your lonely days were gone. After few hours, it was late night when we notice the time, she decided to go home. She looked at me, said ‘thanks’ and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her,

Graduation …

A day passed, then a week, then a month. Before I could blink, it was graduation day. I watched as her perfect body floated like an angel up on stage to get her diploma. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn’t notice me like that, and I knew it. Before everyone went home, she came to me in her smock and hat, and cried as I hugged her. Then she lifted her head from my shoulder and said, “You’re my best friend, thanks” and gave me a kiss on the cheek. Senior year …

One fine day she walked to my locker. “My date is sick” she said, “He’s not going”. Well, I didn’t have a date, and in our junior year, we made a promise that if neither of us had dates, we would go together but as best friends. So we did. That night, after everything was over, I was standing at her front door step. I stared at her as she smiled at me with her crystal eyes. Then she said ,”I had the best time, thanks!” and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

and I knew she would be happy with her life now, so it would be better if I let her go and stay out of her life. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why. Days passed, one of my friend want to see me to tell something about my best friend, she was on the hospital gasping her breath, she’s half alive. When I came to her, I felt like I weight the world, I thought I was going to faint. When I saw her she smiled at me while catching her breath. She was buttered She thanked me for coming to her on her death bed and she gave me her last kiss on my cheek. As I was lost in thoughts, her father came to me with tears and guilt in his eyes. He handed me her lavender soft covered notebook. A diary she had wrote in her high school years. This is what it read:

Marriage …

Now I sit in the pews of the church. That girl is getting married now and drives off to her new life, married to another man. It seems like things are different now. Her parents fixed her marriage to a rich bachelor so they could pay their debts, and I couldn’t do anything, my heart break into pieces. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn’t see me like that, and I knew it. It hurts But before she drove away, she came to me and said, “you came!” She said “thanks” and kissed me on the cheek. But this one, I can’t resist the pain inside me now, so I run off the plane. All I want for her is to be happy in her existence

I wish he would tell me he loved me To the end of my time, my love is only him”. I couldn’t do anything even single move only tears fell into my eyes and said. ‘‘I wish I did too’’ I thought to my self, and I cried.

I want to tell her,

Solitude -agnz-

(Death) By: Jorge Here I was in my fierce solitude, Hidden under my blanket of grief. Nothing was left out of gratitude, Not a moment of lax nor relief. What would you prefer to do If even tears had left you? And how was pain to be said

If words already faded? What was sorry for If the heart beat no more? If love do prevail Then why did our love fail? Times were tough. We got rough. Tears gone dry Still I cry. Soon I die.

We started as trangers Then friends who became lovers We promised together, That we will cherish each other, From now on, ‘til forever.. When I think of you.. From mile to mile, Your corny jokes, is what made me smile Thinking of you from a distance Makes my heart stop

There she was, gasping The silent creatures let her cry, While waves of loneliness blanketed With the echoes of the night In a sudden stop, aware now The darkness Cannot hide, Shadows of the past haunting her Beneath that cold, cold, sky She sat there long enough, To let her weakness cease, She thought, she prayed, she wiped her tears Against that wicked breeze Standing up, she faced herself, In a different, brighter light, Setting forth through horizons With storms that struck too many times

By: LLena, Frael, Lyn M. (BSICT) While I am, am I.. And you are you.. So long the world, Contain us two. Me, the loving, And you, the caring, We’ll make the flame, Of our love not blurring

Of thunderstorms and darkness She came running after the rain She was lost, bound for nowhere So lonely and in pain In an empty street her heartbeat Was following the pace Of her feet, bare and weary, Of this never-ending chase

to beat at once.. From minutes, to hours Hours into days, days became weeks And weeks became months!! But still..I can’t resist, The way you hold my hands I know, our sands of time is shifting And life’s days are fleeting past But there’s nothing I could ask for ‘cause you are here at last.. I hope that this love we have, Will go on.. A love so tender, But yet, so strong.. Like a love so ENDLESSAnd no Boundaries, For here with you, Face to face..I know I have found my place.

She leaves behind a gust of wind, Bearing witness to her plight For it is when unseen monsters creep That she must always, always, fight And so this girl, though weary, Thought, “This is a battle I must win. With all the strength I have mustered, Oh yes, I’ll go on again.”

babaye nga naay trabaho,” hinumdum niya nga giingon n Janet. “Gibunalan nako arun magkat-on,” sukna ni Janet.

Ang among pananom igo ra jud sa among pang adlaw-adlaw nga panginahanglan. Aduna mi binuhi nga baboy nga ginganlan namo og “jok-jok.

babaye sa among panimalay. Iyaha pud kuno gipanghambog ang kabahin s among

“Salingsing sa among kagahapon

Dear choie,

-choie

It’s really like that. It’s supposed to be like that. You made him your source of inspiration, he was there for you, you were there for him, you shared some talks, laughed a little, you shared some smiles..you get the picture? It hurts to feel rejected. Especially by someone you had fallen for .When he didn’t call, he didn’t text-no nothing? Well. It’s natural for your heart, not to mention your pride, to get hurt. He was an inspiration, a good reason everyday for you to keep those grades soaring. And when your love had faltered, so did your grades. It’s not like you can’t be friends with him again. If you feel ignored and he feels confused why you suddenly close your doors on him, don’t be surprised. Because he may not know your true feelings. Maybe he needs to know. So that he can understand. If he does not understand, then accept it. If your main problem is your grades, relax. You can be on the top again, if you have accepted things between you and him and if you can start being the friend that he had known. And then you’ll have your inspiration back. You just have to control your feelings. Because we both know it’s not the other person’s intentions to hurt you.

Dear NB, Just call me Aries. Kanang sa Zodiac ba. I am a self-proclaimed artist. Well, I earned the name “artist”, so to speak. I met a girl. Let’s call her Ms. HM. Naunsa man ko? Nganong manghilabot man ko ani niya nga kahibaw man ko committed ko? Is this love?Need?Kung need, unsa nga need? Wa lagi ko kasabot. Kahibaw ko unfair ni sa akong girlfriend. Dugay na mi nagkuyog-kuyog ani niya. Mga 2 years na mi friends (or unsa ba). Not all the time, makasabot ko niya. She knows I have a girlfriend. And she understands me most of the time. Sa usa’t usa mi mudagan for comfort. She looks for me when she feels bad. I look for her when I feel bad. She is important. Ug kahibaw ko I’m more than just “important to her.” But I know I love my girlfriend. Ok ra man sad ni Ms. HM nga in ani amo setup. Usahay mag-away mi, pero musabot ra man siya. Naglibog na ko. Unsaon man ni?

Dear Aries,

-Aries

Are you trying to be Justin Timberlake and is Ms. HM trying to be his love interest in that movie “friends with Benefits?” I sure hope not. You’re right. It’s soooooo unfair. Not only to your girlfriend but also to the other girl. Why? Because it means both girls’ love for you is not strong enough to withstand their imperfections. It means you’re not contented with either one of them. You have a girlfriend and I gather she doesn’t know about Ms. HM. She should know eventually. After you have figured out what’s going on between you and Ms HM. It’s not hard to choose. You know who you’re committed to. Or simply ask yourself, who you can’t afford to lose. Who is it among the two of them that you just can’t do without? If it’s your girlfriend, then drop the other one. You can be friends with her, maybe you can be close friends, but know your boundaries. You said Ms HM was ok with the setup? Maybe she’s so stuck on you and she thinks she really doesn’t have a choice. Fix it, little by little, step by step, before you lose them both.
