pbeat words, incandescent smiles, ground-breaking performances, countless attendance and impassioned auras - these are the images that open up this year’s celebration of Intramurals with a bannered theme, “Reaching Heights, Coursing Depths and Conquering Feats toward Liberal Education.” The theme notifies a vision of anticipation that dominated in the students, inducing an impulsive excitement and soaring pride in every student for their respective units as the
Cebu Technological University Main Campus (CTU- MC) officially opened the Intramural Meet 2014 which runs from September 10-13. Together with the marching band and their ensemble plays, the resonating roars and cheers promised a 3-day battle of perseverance, dedication and confidence. The event started with a parade participated by the six units, the accredited organizations and The Nation Builder, Head of the Documentation Committee.
The morning program made a remarkable opening ceremony at the Kasadya Gym as it was filled by eager students and participants who were excited to start the program. Things We Missed this Intramurals
PERSPECTIVES CHARYMAR ESTRADA
Let us not let ourselves be drowned by our own unwillingness to attend in these activities.
Intramural meet is obviously an incredible event that every student would ever wish to attend and witness. The student populace has almost reached 15,000 but for two years of witnessing our school’s intramurals, I think less than the half of the students’ populace took part in the event. Would this really mean that students in this school are just busy? Or don’t they just really care about what is going on?
BATTLE continued from page 1 was made even more exciting as the different units cheered for their bets in the search for Mr. and Ms. CTU in the evening program. Shouts roamed over the Kasadya Gym as they support their candidates. Guest and spectators from the other universities attended the event and were surprised with the kick - off program for the Intramurals 2014. Excitement and satisfaction were seen in the faces of the students, filling the aura of the affair and the spirit of sportsmanship permeated throughout the event.

jud ko, kay this year’s intrams is so different from the past, from the attendance down to the energy of the students as in it really was super duper i n c r e d i b l e ,”e x p r e s s e d Janin Alegiojo BSED 1-I. The event became more meaningful and exciting in the afternoon that compressed of series of skill competition such as ball games. Despite of the scorching heat of the sun, it rage with the intensity as each unit shown no mercy during the game. All of them did implausible performances just to prove that the team they belong is the best among others.
Aside from the different sports which will be battled by the different athletes, the weeklong celebration of Intramurals 2014 also highlights the voice of CTU final battle, search for Mr. and Ms. CTU, Dance Palabas and Dance Sports Competition. Moreover, intramurals is about participation, interaction, and staying active and having fun. The sports offered are organized for friendly, fun competition and are not meant to be as competitive as varsity sports.
Being students, we are obliged to do the tasks our instructor had assigned to us. But this doesn’t mean we have to be good, forgetting that we also ought to enjoy the activities in our school. Haven’t you thought of this before? Many students never cared about or took the chance to enjoy these events. This is a not a simple question. If you internalize these things, you will realize that this is the truth and that it holds strongly. These talks about us, the students, and we have to be aware of these things. Moreover, do we really need to stress ourselves thinking about how we should finish every task we have to do? Being a student, we also need those stress-relieving activities, enjoy this part of our lives and make every moment memorable because we will not be students forever. After school, we don’t have any other choice but face the reality.
During our class days, we are all stressed by the lessons, assignments, projects and exams. The professors are encouraging us to enjoy the intramurals and cheer the athletes of our respective units. But how come only few of us attend this event? Can’t you see? As the years passed by, students are getting unaware, or should I say they don’t care about these things. If you’ll roam around the school, you can see how few we are attending this event. This is supposed to be for the students, but where are the others? Are they sick? Oh come on! Instead of cheering for your respective units, why are you so busy hanging out with friends outside the school? Why do you seem so clueless about the activity? Guys open your eyes and let them clearly see and realize the significance. Some may say that it is better to hang outside the school than stay inside because of many better places to burn our time with, because they wanted to play DOTA, go window shopping, go home to their respective provinces for rest or even because of having no interest with the event. But attending the intramurals and enjoying the activities inside the school is much better. Intramurals is not only for sporty people, but it is also for the people who wanted to look for some new friends and enjoyment. I don’t blame anyone of you for I know we have different reasons and perspectives. But if you’ll think clearly about this, you will obviously get my point that you were somehow wrong. If you’ll walk through the pathways and corridors, and pass by rooms, you could see students who are just sleeping and chitchatting. If you’ll just waste your time doing these things, why not spend it watching the game and cheering your team. Or if you find it boring, why not go to the booths - you will definitely find it nice. We are set free by some of our professors to enjoy the intrams, not to just waste our time doing nothing. Let us not let ourselves be drowned by our own unwillingness to attend these activities. Let us grab the opportunity to take some rest and enjoy being students while we are still studying. This is just once in a year event that you are involved in. Savor every moment while you’re still here. Do not wait for that day when you will regret that you never enjoyed the intramurals of your college life.

Other Than That I got to hand it to you! Today’s the opening of the intramurals and I’ve been expecting a lot. Last year’s event was a sure mud-on-theshoe; sashes were late, technical problems were common; but let’s face it - today’s much livelier than the last. But despite my beatitude for today’s event, we still want more.

.....Because they have eliminated the cheer dance there’s nothing to look forward..... But its only the first day, let’s wait till they fail us again.
Intramurals should always start with a bang on the chest; but what I need the most is some cheers. When we speak of intrams, what comes first in our minds is the cheer dance because this is the part where students from different units flock to gather and support their favourite dance squad. Many have been dismayed about the removal of the cheerdance competition which had been considered as one of the focal point and the best competition other than the MR. and MS. CTU pageantry and The Voice of CTU. Because of this intramurals doesn’t seem to be any fun at all. Do you think flaunting yourself at the parade is fun? Tell me! Being with your unit doesn’t mean
ELNAR PAGAO News Writer
you’re all ready and united - the cheerdance does it all. Your screams do all the talking, and it measures how devoted you are to your unit. The cheer dance competition was one of the highlights in the intramurals that signify the unity in each team. Students gather, cheers are deafening and yes, let’s not forget the death defying moves they show. Yes they’ve replaced it with the Dance Palabas, but who makes “COWBOY” a theme anyway? Themes should be like: The Wild-Wild West or any relation to the Wild West, but a cowboy? Of all the things that can be made into a theme, they choose a cowboy! Because they have eliminated the cheer dance there’s nothing to look forward, and speaking of looking forward, who makes a stage that isn’t even prepaired during a major event. I anticipated that this year’s intramurals will be breathtaking and I can’t help but compair last years event with today’s intramurals. But its only the first day, let’s wait till they fail us again.

he monochromatic day turned into an extravagant burst of enthusiasm that brought a carefree, likewise, tensionfilled ambiance. Intramurals was compounded from the two late Latin words “intra”, basically means within and “muros”, to be defined as the walls. Today these conjoined words became a known event that is expected to be done at every school. By given the chance to annually hold lavish adversity of sports, thereafter, recreations.
that is caused by the overwhelming pride of winning is not the objective of the event hence it is bound for a closer contact among students and create relationship between them that will help develop one of the most valuable aspects of human being. First, it contributes to the structuring of one’s body and a good account of physical discipline that plays a part to a better physique. Then it provides wellness in emotions through closer participation with different people and being able to adhere, especially understanding and respect as prime morals. This is also a social inclination that will be allotted by the traits towards others that are shown during the games. Finally, boosting mental standards through good followership can improve the risk of vulnerability of an individual’s ignorance and innocence.
Everyone has a taste for relaxation wanting to experience leisure time and to unwind. Intramural days could also become a medium for holidays that can, well for some reason, give the chance for other students to leave for a visit in their family in the province. Making friends can also be done during this time. Having a tough time during class days can have redemption by hanging out with old ones while making memoirs with new ones.
Accordingly, the Intramurals provide a diverse opportunity and unusual chance that is sometimes ignored otherwise its purpose has a disguised donorship.
