Feature The Vision, Courage and Tools to Change and Interview with Dave Bassett, Owner and Founder of Amerijet International

The story of Amerijet began over 36 years ago when Dave Bassett began Professional Charters Services. In a few short years, the company obtained its first lear jet and with it Amerijet was born. Over the years, Dave worked hard on building a transportation company that would be resilient and productive. What he knew then, and what he knows now, was that a company’s growth was correlated to the company’s culture. “I have always incorporated values into my business because I believe in values. The culture of a company comes from its leader,” Dave stated. His ability to understand culture and value would be put to the test many years later. He would walk away from the experience more convinced of his original belief. First, change would have to come. Over the years, Dave fine tuned his ability to “think outside the box.” While his company was growing and seemed healthy, he knew in the mid 1980s that the business of transporting goods would change. Large contracts with Emory Freight, US Postal Service, and UPS would eventually end. He just did not know when or how the change would occur

8

www.kandeeg.com

and when it did he was taken by surprise. More jets were acquired, more people joined the team and Amerijet expanded. Some of his present team came on board so many years ago. In 1983, just out of college, Mark Stewart, current Senior Vice President Airline, began working for Dave as a mechanic. At the end of each day, when everyone else had left for the day, both men would be found standing at the wings of the plane waiting for the jet to take off. Their common concern for the company and their casual conversations soon turned into a solid friendship that has continued for many years. That is the tone Dave set in his company, he is accessible and willing to listen.

The changing times In 2000, the economic environment

Fall 2010 - Kandee G Enterprises

began to change and with it the nature of the business. Several of his large contracts had disappeared. Amerijet was in need of money and reorganization. Dave found a way to infuse his company with money and a future. In the midst of this crisis, 911 altered the landscape for everyone. As part of that reorganization, Dave decided with his team to take the company in a different direction. “I tried to find a way to create something different. Once we reorganized in 2000, we completely took our focus away from doing contract work. To this day we are now focused on the individual,” Dave added. In 2003-2004 Amerijet began a third transformation. Amerijet added three other entities over the next few years. These companies included an ocean shipping company (International Transportation Network), and then an expedited trucking company (Nations Express) and another air carrier expanding the reach into Asia (Silk Road Express). The goal was to be as much of a full service transportation company as possible. With such an expansion, Amerijet’s customers could now receive the best service conceivably possible.

Feature Everything has a life span including planes. The wonderful Boeing 727 that had served Amerijet so well was beginning to be less efficient. Those wonderful “work horses” as both Mark and Dave referred to them were not completely fulfilling the company’s needs. An idea that had been in Dave’s head for many years began to re-emerge. The Boeing 767 would be great. The trouble—there were not many of them around and they were extraordinarily expensive. Despite the 767s appeal it was not within Amerijet’s capacity to obtain the plane. Defining Moments Dave had always been the type of CEO that sought input from others. He had no difficulty in consulting with motivational experts and business gurus to find solutions he could not see in front of him. It happened that in 2006 Dave decided to work with Kandee G and her team on her Vision Program. It would change the course of the company and their approach to business radically and positively. “I believe we were being guided by our standards. But, they were ill defined and only assumed. They were not clearly put out there.” Dave explained, “I wanted to create an environment where we had a vision of where we were going and what our values were in the process of getting there. Kandee G’s program really brought that together and helped us define who we really were and where we wanted to go.” “This wasn’t the first time that Dave has pushed for trying to get our minds to work in a common direction. Other folks have come in.” Mark added. “They tried to tell us what they thought; in contrast, when we sat with Kandee G she mined our brains on what we were thinking. Dave’s team was already heading in a direction, however, nothing was

written on the wall. If someone said ‘what are some of the company’s values?’ it was fuzzy. Kandee G brought it out for us. What we came up with was what we believed in. With the others [consultants] they had a book to sell. But with Kandee G —we [our team] created it, and she was our guide.” Mark insisted. How do you ensure the culture and vision is companywide and not just with the top management team? Dave began, “We decided that if we truly value our vision and our culture, then everyone in the company should know it. Once we, [the top management team] established what our true vision and values were, we set about to train every single employee. At first, I thought it was silly: how are we going to get this done?” Dave wondered. “When Kandee G trained the senior team I was a student. I didn’t understand how it was going all the way down to the janitor.” The team, with the help of Kandee G, developed a process and created an ongoing series of classes. “Every single class would do the same thing. From a CEOs perspective, I thought, “What if we stand up in front of all these people and we say ‘You are going to help us decide where to take this company’ and what if they decide to go someplace we didn’t decide on? How does that work?” Dave confessed. His concerns were ill founded. Kandee G’s process made it automatic and simple. “People who work in a company understand it as well or better than the boss does. We are a transportation company. My employees are interested in doing what we do. It wasn’t hard. We gave them goals of the company. And

each group then created their own subset of goals.” Each sub group developed their own set of values and goals, all complementary to those set by the top team. The process allowed every group in the company to take possession of and feel part of the goal setting. It became theirs. There became a real level of personal commitment as opposed to compliance. What Amerijet’s vision truly is about remains apparent throughout the company. You can see the vision on posters, on the website, email signatures and daily ops calls reminding each other of all the good that is happening. There are ongoing vision reminders through email blasts, classes and most importantly in the behavior of the hearts and minds of the Amerijet employees. For Dave, and the rest of the team, Kandee G’s process has become an integral part of how the company functions. To ensure that everyone is on the same path, “We make a point to get to the entire population of the company every year. Each class is about 50 people. Our senior directors and officers do training twice a year. It is a constant drum beat. Everyone happily participates. The team supports each other in maintaining the vision as they all helped to create it. And they love the classes. People walk away enchanted and rejuvenated” says Dave.

The Vision, Courage and Tools to Change (continued)

Renewed Focus and New Opportunities The goal, vision, and values of Amerijet are clearly defined. “When I started the company in 1974, I didn’t know we would be here. And ten years from now I don’t know where we are going to be. The reality is that we know we are going to do better. We challenge ourselves to get better at something every day. We know where we are going - the rest of the process will take care of itself.” And now a new chapter of Amerijet International’s story bears fruit to this concept. “The story of the Boeing 767 is remarkable,” Dave said smiling, “We didn’t have any money. We couldn’t buy this airplane. Each plane costs 30 million dollars a piece. I spent weeks looking at airplanes in the desert. I was looking for anything I could bring to the market that could do the job as well as a 767.” Once the group was focused on the goals, and understood the values that were guiding the company, opportunities became apparent. Mark, who states he is not a skeptic has been amazed by what continually appears as magic. “It was remarkable. Opportunities came. Before, [the vision workshop] we couldn’t see them. When everyone focuses their energies on the same thing, magical things take place. In a very short time we now have two Boeing 767s. That is amazing! Our pockets weren’t deep enough. Doors kept opening. When you need to get a plane certified it can take up to a year. When we got that first 767, it was only days before it was certified,” Mark stated incredulously. The energy created by the people who comprise Amerijet gives rise to the greater manifestations of working together.

10

www.kandeeg.com

The vision builds solid relationships worldwide. The goal of Amerijet and its subsidiaries surpass the concept of doing business for profit. Profit is only a piece of the picture. Dave is committed to improving the lives of the people who live within the area / countries where Amerijet does business. To explain this crucial aspect of holistic thinking, Mark gave another example. “When we consider going into a new region, we also consider how we are going to help the people in that region.” Mark continued, “For example, on this tiny [unnamed] island, there was a time when the country needed [everything].” There was little to no industry, thus not making it profitable or cost effective to fly a plane into the island. Flying merchandise onto the island was not a problem. There was nothing to load on the plane for the return trip.” Mark said, “Dave explained that, “If we help them create a product to come out of the country- meaning produce, that can be sold, then we can fly in and out‘ and so it became our mission to do so.” Dave and his team also considered operations. For Amerijet to thrive in a new region, it had to be perceived as friendly, thus some operations would be handled through local companies, run by and staffed by locals. “There isn’t an American sitting there giving orders. We went in with the idea of how can we do something to better that country? How can we take opportunities to them [the people of the region]?” In some Caribbean countries produce was not being exported. With the aid of Amerijet, and a shared vision, there are thriving export businesses now operating and that trickles out to all areas of the local economies. Amerijet focuses on all customers-

Fall 2010 - Kandee G Enterprises

large and small Determined to ensure that his company would never again fall prey to economic downswings and to achieve stability, Dave knew he needed to look at potential customers differently. It was clear, that while it was great to have large clients, much of the life blood of the company would come from the smaller consumer. As he articulated this concept, “We don’t look at limitations in this company. If you wanted to ship perfume as an individual to a friend in Venezuela you couldn’t ship through other carriers. It is hazardous material. We are licensed to carry Class A explosives. We are one of a few companies licensed in the world. We really look to be an unusual cargo carrier. We transport race horses. This is clearly something not many shipping companies can do. People like working here. We have a passion for what we do.” That passion keeps everyone striving to do better, to find new solutions, and to achieve what might seem unachievable. As the constitution of Amerijet states: We ensure longterm profitable relationships with our customers, employees, and business partners by providing reliable, friendly and innovative services while having the time of our lives doing it.” Only nay-sayers could argue with that and they would be wrong.

Creating Her Vision

An Interview With Dr. Letitia Wright, producer and director of The Journey by Linda A. Firestone high school arena. At the time, her mother worked for a chiropractic office, so, Letitia witnessed “people walking into the office hurting and sick,” and then “saw them walk out feeling immediately better.” From that moment on, she was determined to become a Dr. of Chiropractic.

Her path to being an international speaker, author, T.V. show host, film director and coach was not part of her original plan. Living life “on life’s terms,” and being open to opportunity and change allowed Dr. Letitia Wright to move away from a life she plotted out as a child. Not that her original plan was a bad one, it just was not the one she would ultimate pursue. She was born and raised in Southern California and from elementary school through middle school her mother found it more advantageous to school her at home. That was a bold and illegal move by her mother – at the time, home schooling was not legal nor was it recognized as an alternative to attending public school. Regardless, Letitia thrived until more stimulation was required. Thus, Dr. Wright found her way into the public

12

www.kandeeg.com

That path was not complicated for her: her goal was clear. She went to Chiropractic school and found that what she lacked was a mentor and a job. Many of the men who were at school with her had mentors and jobs lined up before they even graduated. She was not that fortunate. After searching for a job, she found one and was thrilled to be treating patients. Unfortunately, school had not taught her about running a practice nor did her boss excel at the business of his practice. But, she said reflecting back, “I was a great doctor.” But, lacking the knowledge necessary to make a practice thrive was daunting. She ultimately went out on her own, making more money than earlier but still she “struggled, struggled, struggled,” to grow her business.

own practice was growing. To this day, Letitia believes that had she had a mentor for her practice she would probably still be working as a Chiropractor. But, that was not the path she would continue to follow. It was time for a break. To take time off. During this time of self - reflection she came up with another TV show concept. This time, the focus would be business not health. The title of the show would be “The Wright Place.” The show began small, and was viewed in two local cities. Within the first two years her show was almost in the black. Viewership quickly climbed from half a million to 2.5 million. By the third year “The Wright Place,” no longer owed money and was running in the black. The show continues today.

Because of the knowledge that she was gaining, both by interviewing experts in business and by reading their books, her understanding of growing a business soared. She quickly learned to be weary of those claiming to know how to help her grow her business who were really only in it to take her money. “ I am at a point in my career now,” she explained, A break in her vision began with an “that I know what it takes” to make a invitation to appear on a self – help TV business work. show “The Healthy You. Feature to be released in December of 2010. The change continues How did you come to produce and direct The Journey? Goal setting has been part of Dr. Wright’s yearly process. “I try to set goals two years ahead. In 2009, my father was diagnosed with cancer, so my whole focus for that year was my family. When he passed away, I wanted to make sure I had done everything and said everything I wanted to say to him. It was tough to watch. I didn’t do as many business things that I would have normally done.” But her family was the priority. At the end of that, late in her goal setting, she received a call from Don and Melinda, they asked if she would be interested in a new project. “Yes,” came quickly. The process of goal setting is one of time management for Letitia. She makes sure to have clarity in her thinking and then “I will sit down and look at what I want to get done and how long each project will take. People sit down and set goals but they fail because they physically don’t have time to do them.” How did you crystallize your dream and put it into action? Dr. Wright’s goals were taking her further and further away from her vision of herself as a good doctor, a commitment she had continually told the world she had made. “It was tough. People were curious about what

was going on in my head. Then, my grandmother passed away. We were going through her things and came across an antique blood pressure cuff made with cloth and beautiful walnut wood and mercury -- and it still works. The company that made it is still in business today.” The blood pressure cuff and box were a mystery so Lettia decided to investigate. Not only was she amazed that it worked but to find out how it came to be among her grandmother’s possessions. She contacted the company and they traced the serial number back for her; indeed, her great grandfather had purchased it and the company offered to buy it. The family kept it. Her father gave it to her on her next birthday. This old but working blood pressure cuff held great meaning for Dr. Wright. “It taught me a lesson. The blood pressure cuff is still a blood pressure cuff. I am still Dr. Wright and I can move forward. I can do whatever else I want to do and still be Dr. Wright. That piece of equipment sits on my desk at home. I can see everyday.” It was in fact the impetus for her to move forward. “I was always interested in working on films. I had finished my goal setting late and I said yes to Don and Melinda about producing and directing The Journey,” she stated.

“I tell them to focus on the transition and understand that they know more about the business then they think they do.” For Dr. Wright there is a time for searching and there is a time for action. “You want to be open to learning but you don’t want to be on the path where you are always seeking, seeking, seeking.” When you deny you own inner knowledge, “You become vulnerable to a bunch of gurus who will tell you they know the answer. That does not mean you do not need to seek investors, or you do not need to hire a staff member or an expert, it means that you are not just seeking, seeking, seeking. Be confident and take the steps,” she declared. Letitia’s path continues to evolve and expand. More films, different subjects, different genres, beauty lines, new collaborations with Kandee G and more are just some of the projects on the to do list. There is no limit as long as Dr. Wright remains open to the lesson and focused and committed to her goals. Drama or Dreams? Your Choice by Glenda Feilen If you are not living the life of your dreams, perhaps you can relate to the life I once had. I was swimming in financial debt, stressed by relationships and failing health. If any of this sounds familiar, it doesn’t have to. There was a time when I felt totally hopeless about my financial future because of overwhelming debt. If I had taken every penny I was currently making to pay my bills and acquired no more, it would have taken two hundred and three years to pay off my debt. My life was not only a financial hell, my health was also failing. I was young and wondering, “Why me? Why couldn’t the medical doctors figure out the problem? Who decided my life would end about now.” Finally, a medical specialist informed me I had no more than ten years to live and nothing could be done. Great..more drama to think about. My relationships were anything but empowering. Work friends were simply steps on the corporate ladder and my marriage was failing. Thank heaven (and I do every day) for the day I woke up and noticed the sunshine. I noted people all around me who were happy and living in abundance. They had energy, health and vitality, and empowering relationships. They were lively, full of life, fit, thriving, prosperous individuals. Immediately, I made it my mission to find out what it was they were doing. What was their secret? I was determined to find out and I DID! I discovered that whether they were conscious of their habits or not, their habits were attracting their life circumstances. I realized they had real action steps that kept them focused on what they wanted, instead of focusing on what they didn’t have.

After discovering the personal growth secrets I was seeking, I began taking specific action steps. Within a short time I was making my first million. I also regained my health and received 100% clean bill-of-health. I began attracting fulfilling relationships. The fact is everyone is either focused on their drama or their dreams. Have you ever noticed that people who are focused on life’s drama, continue to have drama? Drama queens (and kings) put their energy on their problems by constantly reiterating their current dramatic situations, and then attract more of the same. These people are ‘energy-suckers’. They deplete their own energy by focusing on the negative; therefore they must suck energy from other people, like you. You feel exhausted when they leave. I make sure I am never around these people for long. Focus on your drama or your dreams. You cannot focus on both at the same time. You have to pick only one. Ask yourself, “What am I focusing on when I am not really thinking and my mind is wandering? What am I focusing on with the words I am telling myself and the things I am discussing with others? To what focus are my actions directed? Are they taking me toward my dreams or fixing some drama that has occurred or is about to occur in my life?” What you focus on – expands! It’s a universal law. It’s the Law of Attraction. Make sure you are focused on your dreams – and drop the drama! I made another incredible discovery that most people never know, even others who teach attraction principles. You must use the Law of Attraction from inside-out in order to fully experience its power and benefits. Focus on your dreams

Fall 2010 - Kandee G Enterprises

by using the Law of Attraction in all three critical areas of your energy field: • ENERGY IN YOU – Use the theatre of your mind to paint your life the way you want using thoughts, words, and feelings. Everything you have today is a result, a residual effect of what you were focusing on yesterday. • ENERGY ON YOU – Dress so the colors, textures and patterns you wear match your personal energy. You will enjoy increased profits, empowering relationships and feel energized when you show others on the outside - who you are on the inside. • ENERGY AROUND YOU The influence of your environment is at work 24 hours a day every moment of your life. The flow of energy that surrounds you influences you greatly in either focusing on your goals or blocking your dreams.

Glenda Feilen, author, international speaker, and recognized authority on the Law of Attraction, shares no-fail techniques to achieve prosperity and success in her book, Life is a PuzzleAre All Your Pieces in Place. Glenda’s ATTRACTION IN ACTION formula reveals how to attract anything by using the Law of Attraction from inside-out. Glenda is the only Law of Attraction Specialist who empowers others to use the Complete Law of Attraction. Her mission is to show others how to employ simple, easy techniques which attract tremendous abundance in every aspect of their lives.

Article Finding Life’s Satisfaction and Inspiration in Helping Others An Interview With Doris Muscerella by Linda A. Firestone

taking root. Doris tried to flesh out the fledgling idea. “I had made no money with the other networking experiences but I made a ton of friends. I went home that night -- upset. I cried myself to sleep. Exasperated, she asked for help, “Dear G-d, please help me. I don’t know what to do. That night I had a dream with my late father. My father was 6’2” and he was my hero. He was laughing in the dream. He said, “put the women together. Just put them together. I’ll help you. But you have to remember me, and every time you unite you have to have me in the center of the table. You know I love yellow roses,” he told her.

Born in San Juan Puerto Rico, Doris described her early years as one of being “ like a gypsy.” Her family moved back and forth from Puerto Rico to the United States until she was 17 years old when she moved to Miami , FL and stayed. She went to school in Miami, and began a career in the legal field that continues today. In the intervening years, she learned about networking and all that was possible through developing meaningful relationships. “I love networking,” she admitted. Life presents challenges and how we respond to those challenges determines the journey. “Because I was a single mother who couldn’t make ends meet and because I wanted to create another stream of income, I became an entrepreneur,” Doris explained. She turned to networking. “I love meeting new people and making connections. I tried several different businesses without much success. I launched two networking groups one in Miami

and one in Broward and became an ambassador for Conscious Living Partnership. ( A networking group of holistic professionals, conservationists and those who are dedicated to living an environmentally friendly - lifestyle.) She also found herself President of the Para Legal Association in Broward County. “ Throughout all is networking experience, Doris found that her passion was “loving and being with people.” One day someone in one of the groups suggested that Doris use her talents to create her own group. Despite having tried to start two other networking groups, Doris thought about what that could mean. “I thought about all those women who were in the same situation that I am: who are single moms and struggling. “If,” she mused, “I put them all together in a room and we unite and exchange business with each other—what would we create?” The seeds of something bigger were

The next day Doris told her older sister about the dream. Her sister thought it over and offered to help. Her sister said, “ I’ll open my house, you invite the women.” The first thing Doris did was to buy yellow roses for the center of the table and then she invited 20 women from all the networking groups she had been to over the years. “We set up the table and food. And, before we even started the meeting, the women were already exchanging phone numbers and setting up appointments. I then told them about my idea for an all women’s exclusive networking group. Some were positive, others said “another networking group, Oh! No!” But I said, “No this is different, this is one of a kind. The women of our group are going to be hand picked and screened.” Much to Doris’ dismay she was “brushed off.” Though she was deeply disappointed, she was unable to walk away from her concept. Several days went by when she dreamed again. Her dad reappeared and this time he

Article challenged her. “My dad used to love the number eight. My favorite number was nine. We would argue. He would say my number is prosperity and I would say mine is success.” In the dream, he told Doris if she wanted success, she would need to do everything using the number eight. He was adamant and boldly told her he would not help her if she did not use the number eight. Last June, Doris explained, “we put together a board of eight women. We had eight chairs and a table, eight yellow roses and we launched the Women of the Round Table.” Taking her dad’s warning seriously, she proceeded to create a logo based upon the medieval concept of the knights of the round table but used the number eight and a yellow rose as the center of her logo. A shield that symbolizes protection and strength are the foundation from which the number eight and the yellow rose are grounded. Since the inception of the group, membership has tripled and its reputation has grown within the community. The group has expanded now to 50 with 4 applicants waiting. Much has occurred within that year. The group’s mission: to unite, to inspire, to improve and empower women” has been utilized to help members a number of times. “We do not compete, but we do compliment. It is a sisterhood, we build relationships, and the business comes later. We have had several women who have been in the hospital and we have united and assisted” in everyway they could including financially. The desire to help others has been manifested in the Women of the Round Table’s Charitable Foundation. The Women’s Round

Table was hosting a fundraising event for Gilda’s Club. That night, Doris and the other women joined forces with Kandee G and Amerijet to create a charitable foundation to help the Haitian people. Having fulfilled their organizations mission for Haiti, the organization now chooses two charities to help each year and every six months the charity is changed. Activities to raise money and awareness are held throughout the year. Doris is grateful for her association with Kandee G as that too has continued to evolve.

daily. “I love my members,” she stated. “I work very hard, I have made very little money with the group but I have fulfilled myself,” she added.

For several years, Doris listened to Kandee G’s radio show. And every few months she would try to contact Kandee G. One day she received a message from Kandee G and Doris invited her to speak to the Women of the Round Table. Kandee G agreed and gave her a date many months in advance. Doris recalled, “She came, we loved her. And then we asked her to part of our group and she said yes.”

Advice for following a dream.

Coming to Her Dream

Now, her vision is to expand her reach and to grow chapters within different counties. She envisions a national organization of the Women of the Round Table. Women are welcome to come and experience the Round Table. “They should feel the energy of the group and if they like it they should apply. There is a review process as the Round Table seeks like - minded women with similar goals.

Doris exclaimed: Go for it. Don’t put on limits. Regardless of how many times you fall, you get up and keep going for it. And one day you will strike it rich. Doris’ dream began when she was a child. She always wanted to help people. When she reached adulthood her dream began to formulate, though The Women of the Round Table was never something she could have articulated years ago. In desperation one night, she made a deal with her G-d. “If,” she negotiated, “you help me financially, I will dedicate my whole life to charity. I will help people all over the world. “ That remains her dream today. Ironically, she is not financially well off and still works two jobs to keep things going. However, she experiences abundance in her life through both the work the Women of the Round Table do and through the sisterhood she gets to experience

The Snooze Button by Ridgely Goldsborough

What happened to your New Year’s resolution to stay fit? Didn’t you say you wanted a few minutes to pray or meditate? What about that quiet time you promised yourself?

Music. Smash. Music. Smash again. Music. One eye opens halfway. Smash number three. We’re addicted to the snooze button. Huh? What? Do we really believe that the nine minutes between morning DJ drivel will help us rise refreshed? Do we ever truly get back to the fantastical dream journey so rudely interrupted by the advent of a new day? Can one more smack on that hateful clock make that big a difference? You bet it can. “I’m tired and I deserve that little extra.” “I’m in charge and I decide when I get up.” “I don’t need that long to get ready anyway.” Yeah, right. Who’s kidding who?

Get out of bed. The great Charles Dickens, a prolific inventor as well as master of the written word, once stated: “I never could have done it without the habits of punctuality, order and diligence…”

Discipline starts with mundane, daily activities that buy you freedom to do what only you can do, to go after your greatness. Show me a person who can’t handle the little things and I’ll show you someone who’s not ready for anything big. Ouch.

Done what? ANYTHING. That’s the point. Those of us who lack discipline have been robbed of a chance at greatness—at ANYTHING.

Take your clock and put it on your dresser, on the other side of the room. That’s where I keep mine. Turn off the snooze function. I don’t even have one.

If you don’t throw the sheets aside and roll onto the floor, you rob yourself of your workout. If you can’t drag yourself to the coffee machine, when will you ever claim the space to reflect, make room to ponder your lot, do some serious self-evaluation, the only path to lasting change. If you can’t beat the buzzer, you lose the game.

When you want to treat yourself to extra sleep, make a plan and enjoy every minute. Wake up when you finish sleeping. The rest of the year, don’t cheat yourself. Get out of bed.

I know I’m squeezing raw nerves on this one. So be it. True friends don’t stand on the street corner and help you point fingers at those on the other curb. Sometimes we need a smack upside the head.

3 Myths About the Mind

That sabotage even the most motivated achievers by Douglas Vermeeren

it to predetermined and desired patterns of thinking. With a change of thinking your external results will also change. Positive and productive thinking will inevitably lead to positive and productive results.

Myth of the mind #1 Negative thinking cannot be changed It has been estimated that the human mind creates more than 70,000 thoughts every day. It has been estimated that more than 85% of those thoughts are negative. Negative thinking is defined as any kind of thinking that does not contribute, edify or build the person with those thoughts. It should be the goal of every person to seek out thoughts that will allow them to become the best that they can become and reach their fullest potential. The challenge with directing your thinking patterns is that it is easier to talk about thought patterns than it is to create them. If we have been engaged in habitual negative thinking, positive thoughts will not always come naturally or easily. Our thoughts are a critical factor for us to create successful outcomes. No matter whether our thinking is positive or negative our reality is shaped by what we think.

Long term participation in certain thinking narrows our view of what is possible. This is true in both positive and negative thinkers. The more you train your brain to think in positive ways the more you will expect, act on and create empowering outcomes. A person dwells on negative thinking and becomes more depressed, bitter, unhappy and frustrated. This can lead in extreme cases to clinical depression and suicidal behaviors. In most cases, thinking isn’t entirely positive or negative. Thinking is on a continuum with all thoughts having a different value of either positive or negative. Perhaps a better way to describe these thoughts would be ‘contributing’ thoughts or ‘nonproductive’ thoughts. Each has a different value in terms of what they will empower or limit in your life. Nothing in thought processes is ever black and white; everything is varying degrees of grey. All thinking patterns can be changed. Even the negative ones. As your thinking is given deliberate leadership you can direct

Fall 2010 - Kandee G Enterprises

How do we conduct effect leadership of our thoughts? For change in thought to be lasting there is a process that you must follow. The process we share in the Neuroscience of Success seminar requires an awareness of your thoughts, an awareness of the process required to change and a commitment to change. Once the process is understood your thinking will change and you can then be, do have and feel greater success than your current thinking will allow. Go to www. HowThoughtsBecomeThings.com for more information on changing your thoughts today. Myth of the mind #2 Our filters of how we see things come from the past. A filter is the way we see the world based on our values, beliefs and expectations. How do these filters affect our thinking? If you were to ask the average person about their thinking patterns, you generally wind up with a series of answers like this: ‘My thoughts and beliefs come from the way I was brought up,’ ‘My thinking is the result of what I have experienced in the past.’ Sometimes they have even

Article 3 Myths about the mind (continued) stated it as part of their identity and attached it to genetics, ‘I am this way because of my father,’ or ‘I am a red head, we have bad tempers.’ You may have also heard thinking attached to culture or ethnicity, ‘I am French and we are gentle and good lovers.’ These are all elements that have to do with the past or a context the individual is attached to in some way. The moment ‘now’ is also part of your past. Technically what you are currently experiencing is part of your past. How can that be? You may ask. I am in the middle of this right now? Think about it. The second you have had an interaction with an experience your interpretation of it becomes a part of your past. The moment we call now is always becoming part of your past. Are all filters for our thinking based in the past? No. In fact, the most important filter you use is the future. Your future thinking is like a magnet pulling your thoughts in the direction you believe to be most beneficial for you. It is estimated that most people spend an average of 80% of their effort thinking about future events. Unfortunately, most are combining them with their filters of the past and getting negative results. When we become aware of our filters the picture suddenly becomes clearer and it is easier to perform productive thinking. In the Neuroscience of Success events we teach an interesting process about the 5 ways your brain learns information. This is a great tool to direct your most productive thinking through the filtering process so that you can make it a reality. For more information on

cleaning your filters go to www. HowThoughtsBecomeThings.com Myth of the mind #3 The brain stops developing after a certain age. Wanda is in her mid-forties. She went to college, but due to some challenging situations that occurred in her life she had to drop out and never finished. She went on to have a successful life as a mother and raised two really great kids. They are now getting ready to head off to college and this has Wanda thinking about the opportunity she never had to finish. Being aware of her feelings Wanda’s kids have challenged her to return to school as a mature student. Her initial transcripts from the first time around were great and the college is also eager to accept her back. But inside Wanda doubts if she can learn like the younger students. She is worried she is just simply too old to try and jump back in. Earlier generations of brain experts would have told her that once you left childhood and youth your brain becomes somewhat static and unchanging. They would have said that learning becomes much more difficult, if not impossible for adults. Studies have now found the opposite to be the reality. The majority of people still believe these old notions of the older you get the slower and more difficult your thinking and learning abilities become. These same people often reinforce these beliefs with the following descriptions, “That’s just how I am,” or “You can’t teach an

old dog new tricks,” or “I wish I was younger, then I could do it.” This idea is false and comes from inaccurate conditioning in our society. Modern studies have shown even seniors still have the capacity to reshape their thinking and effect physical changes on their brain. Your brain is continuously changing according to the leadership that you give it. This scientific name for this principle is called Neuroplasticity. There is no limit to what and when you can learn. Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati by Linda A. Firestone

Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati: “The path is one of service. That is the beginning, the middle and the end. It is not an easy path but it is definitely a full one.” Surrounded by lessons provided to her by many who are suffering, and by those who have sought her teachings and her loving touch, Ma Jaya finds the motivation to keep going despite the enormity of the work yet to be done. Whether Ma is in India at the Ma Center for children, or at the many ashrams her students have built across the United States, Ma does her best to provide for those in need. Children, adults in pain, elderly, homeless, the sick, the lost, and the dying, keep Ma working and working hard. “For a country like this, to have people going to bed hungry every night just hurts my heart. I have children brought here to see me who are in rags; so we have to clothe them. I train the teachers to go out and teach. What they teach is service and meditation,” she explained. Feeding as many people as possible is one of Ma’s pressing visions. With the help of those she teaches she is witness to “the growth of that vision.” But how does one formulate such visions? For Ma, the essence of her life’s work took shape as a child. Harsh realities lead to a life dedicated to giving hope and comfort to others. It is hard to quantify which of the formative experiences Ma lived through pointed her toward her life’s path. Could it be the friendship she experienced with four homeless black people who lived under the Brooklyn

board walk who also took care of her and taught her that there were “no throw away people?” Or perhaps, it was watching her mother slowly die of cancer in a bed on the charity ward at Connie Island Hospital in Brooklyn? Was it the many other abandoned lives after the war with lost body parts and bed - sores that lay before her as charity cases at the hospital? Or perhaps it was the neglectful “gambling” father at home that contributed to her compassion? Ma was seven years old when she witnessed the intensity of life’s challenges more than many do in a life time. Her Mother forced her to physically connect with the people on the hospital ward ordering her “to touch them as you would touch me,” and “make them laugh.” She received a smack across the face from her ailing mother for asking “why, you?” Ma Jaya believes the lesson in her mother’s smack came with a more profound question, “who is going to give you the answers!” Finding herself through service and teaching Teaching has always been part of Ma’s adult life. As she was raising her three children in Brooklyn, and years after her mother had succumbed to cancer, she received a vision of Jesus, the Christ. Ma Jaya was brought into life as part of a Jewish family. Humor, a big part of Jewish culture, can be found in Ma’s recanting of past and present experiences. Speaking in an undeniably Brooklyn accent Ma explained that when the vision came to her she asked if “you have the wrong house.” The Christ figure told her he would come to her four times

but not until “you find out who you are.” His parting words were “teach all ways.” In Brooklyn, at night, when her children were in bed Ma studied with the great Hindu saint Swami Nityananda. She taught yoga in her back yard and her following grew. Many years later Ma received another visitation this time from her guru Neem Karoli Baba. He had long since past away, but he came to Ma as a spiritual guide as continues to visit her to this day. When she feels a block and working hard to make things happen, her guru comes to her and tells her “do what is in front of you.” In 1976 Ma and her followers moved to Sebastian, FL. There were two houses on the property, a wonderful looking tree and a beautiful body of water. Ma had had a vision of this property as a refuge for the many. Forty - four years later the need for such a refuge has not diminished. In the 70s, Ma dreamed of providing affordable housing for the elderly. Today, a newly opend facility is a reality and people come from all over the globe to see the facility as a model of affordable, beautiful, simple housing for the elderly. Many come to the facility to spend their remaining days in peace. Ma and her staff do their best to find whoever is needed to make the passage easier these elderly men and women be it, a priest, a rabbi, an Imam: To Ma it is all one. Laughingly Ma described how people save their money to come from far away to see her. Upon arrival they may witness her roller - blading or riding by on her bicycle. “They say,

Article NO. I want to see Ma.” Working to improve all lives. “It hurts my heart to tell the story. A young man begged to see me.” He was dying and had what was called [in the early 1980s] GRID (Gay Related Immune Disease the precursor to AIDS) Through a series of unfortunate events, the young man came to Florida but was taken from one hospital to another and in relatively short time, flown back home to California by the state of Florida. Ma seemed unable to catch up to him. He died alone but left a note for Ma. “Please take the torch for me,” he begged her as a dying request. “I fought wherever I went. I have an ashram in C.A. where there is a hospice. They come to learn how to die. I never put that torch down and never will,” she added sadly. Since that time, Ma is a recognized activist in the fight against AIDS and the struggle to help those suffering from the disease. Memorial services are performed at the Ashrams across the U.S. but in Florida, Ma performs an average of three a week. The water, called Gonga, is the burial home to over a thousand people. Her first visit to India was in 1977. “I knew what had to be done there and in Africa. When you see so much and there is so little you can do, it is then you realize you can’t do it by yourself,” Ma explained. Since that time, Ma and her students have established the Center an orphanage for children, the sick, the abused, and the abandoned as well as a Center in Uganda. “We [were] working with women [in Uganda] who were unable to breast feed because they weren’t eating. We hooked up with other people in Africa and created the [Ugandan] Center. I started with 45 children in Uganda and now there are over a 1000. Through the Center we created a women’s league enabling women to go around

Uganda to teach other women how to grow crops.” In Florida, as in Chicago, Atlanta, L.A. and New York there are feeding programs called “Feed Everyone.” The New York program continues to grow simultaneously receiving on going and increasing funding. Food storage became an issue and so a warehouse was built. This one program feeds anywhere between 900-1200 people weekly. In Florida, besides the elderly housing, the school that was open for decades (soon to be reopened) the AIDS program, the yoga center, the teaching seminars there is also Mary’s house for seriously ill children, abused children, children in the system who need help. Sometimes we have 8 children, sometimes 3. The woman who runs the house has adopted two of the boys with AIDS. The director just received an award from the Governor as Foster Care parent of the year. “We are proud of her,” Ma stated. Nothing is structured like an institution. All the programs are to be like “being at home.”

strength to see what needs to be done first. I do so much in Florida and my students go out into the world.” The lesson of her first visit to India has not left her. She can only accomplish the vision with the help of others. “People say, what is the fastest way to liberation? But, I say, ‘You put a smile on a child’s face, you speak to an elderly person, and you serve. In the serving you lose yourself. And, before you know it, something happens to your heart.” Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati is an Americanborn spiritual teacher. Ma Jaya is widely known for her compassionate work, serving those who are suffering, people living with AIDS, the homeless, the poor, and anyone in need. What lies before her “I just turned 70 and I don’t believe it. It was a shock. Life is going to begin for me at 70. I am starting all over again with schools and what not.” Ma is focused on finishing a book and is working with an editor to get it released. Her energies are divided world - wide but she and her staff are working a way to speak collectively to all her followers at one time. It is difficult to arrange with time zone changes C.A., Australia, India. But it will be worked out. Reflecting on her work Ma said, “I don’t feel like I am doing enough. Article The Elusive Balancing Act- Work-life/ Personal Life by Gerry Czarnecki

It’s the topic that seems to defeat all working spouses and parents. It’s the topic that has been the subject of monthly feature articles in various magazines for more than 30 years. It’s elusive and regardless how sophisticated our business models become, there is one challenge that plagues those of us in the workforce. It is simple at its core and yet complicated to manage. It is unparalleled in its scope and it is quite simply this, “How do I find a balance between my work-life and my personal / family life?” This is not another article of tips on how to manage your time better or juggle schedules. As a CEO and an author on leadership, my perspective is quite different. I don’t think the issue is time or finding enough of it. I think the problem is your not knowing when you’ve actually found that balance. You cannot determine whether or not you are being successful unless you establish success criteria First, there must be some metrics around this “balance”. How will you determine success? Is it a pure measure of time spent in each area? Or is it a quality versus quantity issue? A-ha, now we are stepping into the grayer area. In order to determine whether or not you have completed a project successfully, it usually must be completed on time and within budget. Pretty straightforward, right? That time and budget are set up at the beginning of the project and then managed to completion. So, how will you know that you’ve struck that magical balance in your entire professional life, unless you set goals or success criteria in the beginning? That means, you must decide what success is defined to be for you, in each aspect of your life. You must decide what professional success is, and that is not very easy. You must actually also decide what you are willing to pay in the way of “sacrifice” or “tradeoff” in the rest of your life-work balance. Career success, does not come without a price. It takes substantial time, energy and emotional commitment to become a

winner in your professional life. Are you willing to pay that price? If not, then you need to be prepared to accept a level of achievement that is short of “stardom.” Now, don’t think I’m over-simplifying this. There is another component that really makes balancing work and home life challenging. Again, if I use my project example, usually management or your customer defines the success criteria. As a project manager, your responsibility is delivering that project within the criteria set by your customer. But in the case of your work-home life balance dilemma, who determines the metrics for success? Well, because it’s usually not you, yourself, that’s where the difficulty lies. If you have a work-life, you probably have a manager or supervisor and likely may also have a customer. If you have a home life, you likely have a spouse or significant other, children, siblings, roommates, or even pets. Each of these parties demand your time (quantity) and your attention (quality). Each party must be satisfied in order for you to be successful, and the two are in direct competition with each other for both your time and attention. They are defining your success criteria for you. That’s where the “balance” comes in. That’s why that balance is so elusive. Each of the two entities has vastly different success criteria. In order to for you to be “successful” at home, you must sacrifice either quality or quantity in the workplace—and vice versa. Because you are loyal to each, chances are that if one “succeeds” the other will suffer. Therefore, it will be nearly impossible for you, as an individual, to be truly satisfied or feel successful. Does that mean that a balance doesn’t exist? I am not saying it doesn’t exist. I am saying it entirely depends upon the demands of your work-life and your personal life. In short, the work-life balance is decided by evaluating the tradeoffs in your life and work. During my life, I have been blessed with a life partner, a loving wife,

who helped me balance my commitment to her and our family, while allowing me to focus on my work passions. We have been a team, and the tradeoffs that I made, were ones she bought into. Hence, conflict between work and life never really existed, because my work and life were intertwined and my wife bought into what I was doing at work and became a part of the decision process. Candidly, if you are all blessed with this type of relationship, balancing your work-life balance will be a “piece of cake.”

Article Making Your Dreams Come True By Rollan Roberts II So you have this dream. You want it more than anything else. It is the purpose and mission of your life. What now? How do you make your dreams come true? Dreams come true by developing as a person, working diligently and consistently, maintaining the right spirit, heart, and mind by controlling your thoughts, giving everything to it that you have been given, and in time. You have been given all of the tools, connections, and finances you need to accomplish the next step and take you to the next phase of your dream. It is in your life at this moment. Your mission is to discover these things that are currently present in your life. Belief and persistence has helped many a dreamer live their dreams. They just kept knocking; they just kept asking. They did not quit. They won because they were the last ones standing. They were the only one left. When everyone else was quitting, they put a stake in the ground and refused to give up the ground they had taken. You have to believe in yourself. You have to believe in your dream. You have to believe in your cause, and you have to believe that your success is not rooted in yourself, but is the culmination of other people in your life and the Almighty working in you to accomplish all you were destined to become. You must believe that all things are possible if you are called to do them. There are a lot of things that are impossible to me that are possible to someone whose mission it represents. It is impossible for me to compete in the NBA, but it is more than possible – it is reality – for those that are in the NBA.

have been called to do no matter how minor or unimportant it may seem. If you are doing these things, then your mind is in the right place. You are thinking the right thoughts and controlling your mind. If you are having a difficult time believing that you can achieve your dream, you need to go to work on your thought life. The battle for your life is fought in your mind. Be a defender and a champion of your dream. If you don’t fight for it, no one else will. I cannot accomplish your dreams for you. Only you can do that. You cannot accomplish my dreams for me. Only I can do that. But we can work together to help both of us achieve our dreams. Dreams were made to come true. They were not designed by the Creator to drive you to insanity or endless frustration just to leave you feeling empty and like a failure. You have the seeds of greatness in you along with everything you need to move your dream forward in your life right now.

ask a sports star, movie star, or musician what it takes to make it to the major leagues or to hit the big time, they would probably say they had an idea that they believed in, worked hard, were persistent in the face of adversity, and were determined to keep trying no matter how many times they were rejected and no matter the odds because they had nothing to lose no matter what they had. If you don’t have your dreams to chase, then you really don’t have anything at all. I have heard relatives of people at the end of their lives say that their loved one died because they lost the will to live. This is often true, but I am afraid it happens before the physical death more times than naught. There are people dying every day that have not lived in years. They lost hope a long time ago. They gave up on their I love you and believe in you! dreams long ago. They gave up on discovering their purpose and living their life according to that purpose years before. If you are breathing, you can live and pursue your purpose with a fierce and fiery passion. There are people who cannot read the words on this page that have every opportunity for great success because they believe in their dream, do not know the meaning of the word ‘no,’ and have the persistence, determination, and will to never quit.

Higher education is not a requirement of success. Coming from a family of means, wealth, and prominence is not a requirement of success. Unusual talent is not a requirement of success. You can be successful and have all of your dreams come true by believing in your dream, believing that you have been equipped by the Almighty to accomplish it, refusing to quit or give up, working hard, and doDreams do come true. Feature The Journey

The space between where you are in life and where you want to be by Dr. Dallas Humble We have all seen and heard it time and time again. “He is so successful” or “She has it all” or “I only wish I had half the happiness and success that he or she does.” The problem with these statements is not just in the words themselves but also in their shallowness. Are your heart’s desires not lining up with your dreams and ambitions? Is Success something you talk about, want and wish for but feel you are far from achieving? Webster’s dictionary defines the word Success as “1. A favorable termination and 2. A person or thing that prospers.” I will give you another definition later but first my purpose is to take you to a place you have never been before in your mind and explore the basic anatomy or DNA of the success journey itself. The first of Webster’s definitions implies that success is a destination, a place or state we reach on a permanent basis. Nothing could be farther from the truth and this definition as accepted by the world today is why so many people remain unhappy and unfulfilled. Napoleon Hill in the classic “Think and Grow Rich” told readers that the things our minds can conceive and believe could be achieved.” Try to relax and allow your mind to expand and take in all that it can as it relates to your accomplishments, goals, dreams and desires. In essence, try to THINK BIG for a few moments, bigger than you have ever thought before. If success is more than just a word and is not merely a destination but rather a journey, then it stands to reason that you are on that journey right now.

30

www.kandeeg.com

If that is the case, and I believe it is, then you are living in a success state at the present moment. I came from a modest background with wonderful hardworking parents who loved me, provided a comfortable home, and gave me a wonderful childhood. When I was of age I found myself working hard and eventually duplicating myself from location to location in my business ventures. I became a Millionaire by the age of 27, or should I say I gained a Million dollars in net worth according to my financial statement. I was never truly a Millionaire until quite a few years later. I have accumulated wealth and lost wealth on 3 different occasions in my life: One with a business partnership breakup, one with a divorce accompanied by a poor investment strategy and the other with the combination of a house fire which took everything I owned and a real estate investment meltdown. The late Jim Rohn once said, “Pity the man who gains a Million dollars and never becomes a Millionaire.” For so long I had no idea of what he was speaking. How could one have a Million dollars in net assets and not be a Millionaire? Is that really possible? I now understand his wise evaluation and wish to pass along the basic components of the success journey to you. The real question you should ask yourself when evaluating wealth or riches is, “How much would you be worth if you lost all of your money?” That is the true litmus test for a man’s worth. Not the paper assets or materialistic gain but rather the

personal development one has achieved through the challenges of life. You may or may not agree with everything I say throughout this article. That’s okay as long as you think and think big for your life, determine where you are going and take specific actions steps that will get you there. If where you are today is “Point A” and success is “Point B” the distance in between is what we will be referring to as The Journey. It is my sincere hope that this article helps you understand this phenomenon called Success more clearly and creates a better understanding of its meaning. After years of research, reading, studying and rubbing shoulders with those who have achieved success in true terms of the word I have broken down The Journey into 5 components that I would like to share with you. They are as follows: 1 Mental picture/Vision or Dream 2. Emotional picture/Desire or Want 3. Spiritual picture/Persistence or Determination 4. Physical picture/Action or Doing--- Make it Happen 5. Financial picture/Goal or Reward Now for most of you this comes as no surprise. What may come as a surprise to you is the fact that all of us have experienced success in our lifetime. Maybe you didn’t realize it but in the scheme of things you basked in and had success in one form or another sometime during your life. What so many people wrongly believe is that success is a

Feature destination in life; it is not and never will be. Success is also not just a journey. It is THE JOURNEY you are on today. Just like getting in physical shape has no end or permanent destination to it neither does pursuing success. You never reach a point of saying, “I am in shape now so I can eat all I want, when I want and stop exercising.” No, no, no! The reality is GETTING IN SHAPE is the same journey as STAYING IN SHAPE. It has a beginning but no end. Therefore, as you are striving for a certain weight or physical goal, you are experiencing successes along the way. With that said, whether it be money, circumstances, relationships, etc if we are striving and doing the things that will change our lives and/or the lives of others for the better we are experiencing success. Although there are times of emotional highs over achieving something great or coming into gained money, they are short lived. True prosperity in the words mean truly living as opposed to simply existing. It means having a purpose in life (a passion, dream and vision), expressing that want or desire in our actions and having the determination to achieve it and Make it Happen. Balancing life between our relationships, physical, spiritual, physical and financial life is important but the reality is that we are all out of balance from time to time. We must stay in some type of accountability confines in order to be truly happy and have lasting success. Take the example of the goldfish in a pond for a moment. The goldfish is happy in its environment; it swims, eats and is safe within the parameters of its living quarters. But, like so many others, it wants “freedom.” Freedom to wander, explore and go without any accountability or laws that may protect us. Let’s say one day the

goldfish jumps out of the pond into unknown waters where there are no parameters, but danger awaits and before long, the goldfish is dead. So it is with humans. We are given laws of nature, laws of God and man’s laws to abide by and live safely within. Likewise, we are also given unseen laws of success and wealth accumulation that, if adhered to, will bring fulfillment to our lives. At the very core of The Journey is our mental picture or vision, the ability to dream a dream and see something before it actually manifest in the physical world. When someone says to you, “Have a dream or a vision” what do you, think of first? Things you want? Places you want to go? Relationships or circumstances you wish to see change? All of this enters into the category but what truly is a Vision or Dream? MENTAL PICTURE/VISION OR DREAM I define a vision or dream as “Something we see with spiritual eyes, believe with creative mind, accept with our emotional heart and pursue with every cell of our physical makeup.” There are so many stories of individuals that had a dream or vision that made it a reality in their life. The one person that practically everyone remembers having a dream is Martin Luther King, Jr. “I have a dream…” was the beginning of a journey that lead the nation and world to The Journey of becoming a better place for mankind. A place where we could all live together and work together on an equal basis regardless of the color of our skin. The bible itself speaks of writing a vision large and clear so that others can read it and catch the vision to. In order to have success in one’s life there must be a dream. “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run

Fall 2010 - Kandee G Enterprises

who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it.” Habakkuk 2: 2-3 So how do you discover your passion in life so that you can envision it coming to pass with your special dream? My advice is to first take out a pencil and paper or go to your computer and write down 101 things you would like to have, do, and/or be. These are your life goals and a warm up exercise to get your mind and creative juices flowing. Now narrow done your 101 life goals into the 10 top goals that you want to achieve within the next 1-3 years. Write them down on something you can carry with you and read them 3x daily. Don’t ask why, just do it. I can’t tell you why the unseen laws of success and accumulation work but I can assure you that you will begin to see dramatic changes in your life once you begin focusing you the things you want and enjoying The Journey. Once this is done, begin to think deeply about what excites you the most in life, what really lights your fire and drives you? If you had all the money in the world, what would you like to do with your time? What is the one thing that would change you and therefore help make a difference in the world? That one thing is your passion and, for the most part, your true vision or dream is birthed from your passion in life. I recommend that you create a life mission statement that reveals your passion and read it daily along with your 10 top goals in life until you have it memorized. I am passionate about seeing people discover what they love to do and then create ways to make a living at it so that they can do what they were called to do everyday of their lives. Yours may be to be volunteer, help needy causes, teach others to live a healthier

Feature The Journey (continued) lifestyle, educate children, and eradicate illiteracy or to help others to grow spiritually. No passion is too big or too small, right or wrong. It is YOUR passion, YOUR dream and YOUR vision. Take your time and make the most of it because this is, without question, the driving force, the fuel in the tank and the reason to keep on keeping on The Journey when the going gets tough. EMOTIONAL PICTURE/DESIRE OR WANT The next component to The Journey is the desire or want to accomplish or achieve a dream or vision. It is something we smell, eat and think about day in and day out; never giving up in its pursuit. How badly do you want to lose weight or change something or accomplish something in your life? How bad do you want a better life for yourself, your loved ones and the world at large? How bad? How far will you go to see it become a reality? It has been said that if you had a “Want Scale” and your desire logged in at less than a 10 on a scale of 1-10 it isn’t enough to make it happen. It has to be of upmost importance. If you are in school, isn’t graduating one of the most important desires you have? If it is not, you may want to reconsider why you are in school in the first place. If you are new in business, isn’t your number one desire to see that business become successful? Regardless of who you are and what you want I think you will agree that wanting it badly enough is a vital component of achieving it. SPIRITUAL PICTURE/ PERSISTENCE OR DETERMINATION It has been said, “Persistence is

32

www.kandeeg.com

the ability to keep going until your dreams come true.” At the very soul of each of us is our persistence level. When we set out to do something we either pursue it to its end or give up rather quickly when the going gets tough. I couldn’t agree more. Donald Trump commented once that much of his success was attributed to that fact that he was persistent and refused to give up regardless of the circumstances or odds against him. Staying the course against overwhelming odds is difficult, to say the least, especially when it seems the world is against you, everyone is telling you that you can’t do it and there is more month left at the end of the money. Sometimes, all we have is our faith and an unstoppable attitude that drives us through those inevitable yet grueling times. Our spirit and spirituality is the very foundation of who we are and what we are made. It takes determination, belief in God, belief in yourself, belief in what you are pursuing and the desire to make it happen no matter what. There are stories after stories of successful individuals that tried and failed yet, if you read “the rest of the story” you will see that the failure was only temporary in their lives. Success was The Journey they chose and therefore is where they were all along and ultimately, they found themselves living their dream. What do you want? What are you willing to do to get it? Will you keep going and eliminate quitting from your vocabulary? Just remember it is not the picture itself that tells the story; Things are seldom as they appear. It is the one who painted the picture and has the war wound to show for it that possessed the real story. No one anywhere has achieved the

Fall 2010 - Kandee G Enterprises

lasting success we are speaking of without understanding The Journey and experiencing its lessons. Those that gave up don’t understand and never will. Only those that keep on keeping on and take life’s lessons as teachings to learn by transform into new people like the metamorphosis of a butterfly. It is not those things that happen to you or around you that count in life but rather those that happen within you. Don’t let temporary defeat or the words of others stop you from enjoying The Journey. If you take it all in and respond correctly by learning from rather than running from you will not only enjoy The Journey, you will also enjoy the fruit that comes from sticking with it. PHYSICAL PICTURE/ACTION OR DOING (MAKE IT HAPPEN!) As much as someone wants something it is equally important that he or she realize that wanting is not enough, it takes action. Zig Ziglar once said, “You have got to be before you can do and do before you can have.” Simply put, wanting without works that lead to personal growth and character formation is meaningless. What do you think about day in and day out? If you have a dream you realize that it consumes your very being and makes it difficult to think of anything else. The hardest thing I find when coaching someone toward a goal is getting their mind focused on thinking only of those things that are positive, fulfilling and part of the overall vision ahead. Now I understand that it is next to impossible to think only of good things 24/7. Negative thoughts, worries, etc filter in and out of our human minds everyday. It is

Feature our job however to control those thoughts and refocus when this happens. Martin Luther once said, “We can’t keep a bird from flying over your head, but we can keep it from building a nest in our hair.” To control your thoughts you must simply control what you goes into your mind by reading positive inspirational books on a regular basis, listen to personal development recordings in your automobile, hang around those that lift you up and part from those that bring you down. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “A man is what he thinks about all day long.” Come up with a phrase that takes you from where you are to where you want to be when worries come pouring into your mind. It may be, “I can and will do this. He that is in me is greater than he that is in the world.” “I was born to win and created to win therefore I will win” or “It is okay for me to be successful” are a few other examples. Regardless of what your affirmations are do whatever it takes, but under no circumstances do you allow anyone, anywhere at anytime to steal your dreams away. They are yours and yours alone. You are in control of their destiny. Stay focused, create the desire, don’t give up, take the necessary action steps and you will eventually realize the fruit of what you are pursuing. These are not just words to be read, they are facts proven by the test of time by those who have understood The Journey and its meaning in their lives. As a matter of fact, if you practice these unseen laws throughout your life you may realize something even greater than that which you are striving. ACHIEVEMENT PICTURE/GOAL OR REWARD This is the final and most rewarding

phase. It is, by all accounts, the main reason we pursue the dream in the first place. When we pursue a dream we are envisioning the achievement of a dream as if it is already so. Reaching the goal, although rewarding, is not what makes the sweetness of success all it is made out to be. Those that have reached this stage will tell you it was The Journey itself that they enjoyed and are enjoying and that success is the never-ending travel between point A and point B in life. I stated at the beginning of this article that I would define Success in other terms. Well, here it is simply put: SUCCESS- The journey and state of contentment, joy and happiness in an individual that is defined by the feeling of productivity, accomplishment and fulfillment gained from life itself. Put another even more simple way success is peace of mind. There is a lot of wisdom in the latter definition for sure. You see, happiness isn’t having what you want; it’s wanting what you have. Success is much the same way. Personally I do not believe one can find true lasting success from life without the expression of love and a relationship with the one who created him. At the very core of every person is a longing to be loved, give love and discover who we really are, where we came from and where we are ultimately going. I realize many may argue that point and that’s okay. This is strictly my opinion after being on The Journey for more than half of my adult life. As you pursue you ambitions, dreams and envision them becoming reality I would urge you to be cognizant of the present because that is The Journey and without The Journey there is no success. It is the space between where you are in life and where you want to be. You are successful if and when you are pursuing that

Fall 2010 - Kandee G Enterprises

dream, changing yourself and, in turn, making a difference in your life and those you come in contact with. Success is not just a euphoric state but rather a lasting state of being and travels that take us through the ups and downs of life, the good and bad, love and hate, happy and sad times to a place in which we learn the importance of contentment and peace of mind. When you reach that place my friend, you have truly reached something very few experience in life. True prosperity and lasting success that only comes from enjoying The Journey from point A to point B.

Article Our Dreams Came True by Kari and Lisha Schneider

emotionally.

Next, we created a dream board. We had been taught that successful people used mental pictures to accomplish their goals because each time they experienced their dream boards, it created a clear picture in their hearts and minds. We are identical twins, so identical our own dad can’t tell us apart. Don’t ask who was born first. We haven’t a clue because both hospital identification bracelets were the same. It’s been fun doing the twin switching thing that you might expect twins to do. Our passion was to become actresses and travel the world. Our first job was being stunt and body doubles for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Since work was not steady, we lived off our credit cards, watched the balances grow until we had maxed out every card. We quickly learned creative financing by paying one card off with the other, soon to realize it wasn’t so creative and we were deeply in debt. Our lives had become a daily struggle. When we realized the trouble we were in, the first thing we did was to write down our desires. We wrote them as if we were living the life we wanted right then. We described in detail what our ideal day would be like. We wrote things about which we were passionate, knowing we could only be truly happy, as well as successful if we followed our passion. We knew we had the ability to turn our lives around; to create whatever we desired with our thoughts and the pictures in our mind. We understood the principle of experiencing our dreams in advance mentally and

34

We placed only those things on it that were exactly what we desired. We used inspiring, exciting, colorful pictures and words. Every morning, without fail, we would stand in front of our board and see and feel ourselves already living the pictures we had placed on it. Even though we were deeply in debt and hardly had money to eat, let alone drive a fancy car, we would drive our old car imagining that is was a luxurious Mercedes like we drive now. We constantly used this personal creative technique to transform our lives because we knew we would never create anything bigger than the images in our minds. Even though we knew these techniques worked, it amazed us as the specific people and exceptional opportunities appeared in our lives to help us accomplish our desires. Our dreams began to come true as we attracted large sums of money. We began driving the exact make and model of the Mercedes on our board, even to the very color we had pictured. Today, we are living our dreams. We are financially free and travel the world. “Working hard on things that don’t work, don’t make them work” If you have a dream of becoming a published author (or any dream for that matter) or if you are an author and want to sell more books, here are 5 important points to help you take that dream from your heart and turn it into reality. 1. Find A Mentor. Finding a mentor that can teach you how to get what you want is not only invaluable but a necessary ingredient to achieve your goal and dream. It will save you years off the learning curve and save you thousands of dollars of costly mistakes. When I went to my first mentor to teach me how to do a book series he asked me; “do you want to do this as a hobby or a business? I responded I do not know? He looked at me and said get out of my office; if you are not going to treat this like a business you have no business

Article doing it! That was the key advice that allowed me to create our highly successful book series. Another book mentor of mine was the late Charlie Tremendous Jones. I remember when we came out with our second Power of Mentorship book I put on the cover volume two. I had already approved the cover, and the cover was done. Charlie told me; get the word volume off that cover. I said “why Charlie, it looks so good?” He said if you keep it there it will hinder your sales. Charlie had been in the book business for over 40 years and his mentorship proved once again to be invaluable. 2. Get into an anthology. One the best ways to start your publishing career as well as boost an existing one and sell more books (if you currently have one) is to become published in an anthology. An anthology is book that is composed of contributing authors or what I like to refer as “co-authors”. There are a number of anthology books on the market today that will give you the opportunity to be part of the book; however the best ones to be involved with are those who have best selling authors that are part of the contributing authors. The keys to writing success is positioning yourself as an expert, establishing your credibility, massive exposure, and developing your brand. Anthologies help you do exactly that especially those that have best selling authors that are part of that group. 3. Keep your writing dreams alive. If you have a dream to become a published author, you and you alone will have to be the “keeper of the flame”. It will be up to you to stay excited, fuel your passion and fan

the flame. Your mentor can give you the plan; you however must supply the drive. How strong is your desire to write? How much passion do you have to get published, have a book and get your message in print form? Only you can answer these questions and the answers will determine if you are willing to put wings to your dream or allow your dream to stay grounded. 4. Take action now. When I go speak in a certain city, I always have people come up to me and tell me they are in the process of writing a book, or plan to write a book. What always amazes me is when I visit that same city the next year or so, 95 percent of those same people who told me about their writing dreams have done nothing to towards making them a reality. Dreaming is worthless unless you add action with it. My mentor Bob Proctor taught me how to make decisions based on what I want, not what I think I can do, not what circumstances dictate to me or what my bank account tells me what I can or cannot do.

Remember, you can turn your mantra “I have a dream” to “I have a book” the moment you decide to do so.

Start taking action now, today, and the plan, the people and resources will always show up along the way. 5. Know your purpose. You must know what you want and why you want it. Many people know what they want, but when it comes to analyzing why they want it they become clueless. Know why you want to become a published author. It is because you have a burning message in your heart that you fill compelled to get out into the market, a desire to help people through the power of the pen, to sell a lot of books and create a fortune? These are all worthy and honorable goals. Whatever your reason, whatever your purpose is to become a published author know

Article Create a Vision For Your Dream Life By Dr. Joe Rubino

Dreams do come true. However, if your self-image is tarnished, your expectations of participating in all the great things that life has to offer are likely suffering as well. Perhaps, low self-esteem’s greatest cost is the resulting resignation it fosters. We die inside a little more each day. Before we realize what is happening, we have sold out our dreams for being all we can be, having those things we deserve and living a life fueled by our passions. We get what we expect. If we expect that our lives will be marked by rich relationships, abundance, fun and adventure, we will generate an intention to make it so. Our intention will create a drive within us to accomplish those actions necessary to manifest our vision. Likewise, if low self-esteem results in anticipation of pain, loneliness, suffering, struggle, broken relationships and poverty, we will see these results in our world. We unintentionally sabotage our efforts at achieving those things we want most because we do not believe we are worthy of receiving them. Every time things begin to look up, an invisible self-defeating inner thermostat kicks in, ensuring our low expectations become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The good news is that you can retrain your thoughts and

intentions to manifest what you want to have appear. Train your mind to become an ally in your quest for high self-esteem by creating a vision that honors your values, aligns with your passions and encompasses the qualities you are committed to fostering. This new and empowering vision will replace the current dim vision that is neither serving your magnificence nor fueling your selfesteem. Take an 8-ounce glass filled with coffee. This represents your low selfesteem. It is murky, dark and does not transmit light. Now take a large pitcher of crystal clear water. This represents your new empowering vision. Pour the water from the pitcher into the glass. The water from the pitcher flows into the glass, causing the glass to overflow. The first few ounces have little obvious effect on the color of the liquid in the glass. However, as you add more pure water, the content of the glass gets lighter and lighter. By the time you have poured the entire pitcher out into the glass, you will notice all discolored liquid is gone and only pure, translucent water remains. The same holds true with regard to your mind. As you replace cynical, self-defeating thoughts that crush your self-esteem with a positive, empowering vision that feeds your magnificence, the power of the new thoughts eventually replace the old. This elevates your esteem and dilutes the thoughts that previously consumed your attention. The power in realizing this transformation comes from the magnitude of new positive energy that far surpasses the old negative force. To mold your new life vision, close your eyes and imagine that a genie has just appeared before you. This genie has offered to grant

your every wish, provided you have the courage to envision it, believe it will happen and pursue it. In order to create this vision, you need to temporarily suspend any selfdefeating thoughts that you will only have in your life what you have always had. The past does not need to be a harbinger of the future. Keep in mind that we will be developing a specific plan of action to address the question, “What exactly will it take to manifest this vision?” So, create your dream vision with the expectation that we will be designing a plan to bring each aspect of it into reality. Let’s start by revisiting what values your vision will honor. These will form the fabric that will weave throughout your vision. Next, review the qualities you previously recorded that you will enhance and further develop. These qualities will speak to who you are being as you construct your dream life. And lastly, make a list of your passions. These are those things you love to do and would gladly look forward to doing every day for the next 50 years. Your passions make life worthwhile. Think of this vision as a movie script you will watch play out before you on the silver screen as you take your seat in the theater featuring your life story. Write your vision in first person and present tense as if you are describing a scene from the movie as it happens. Create a vivid mental image with as much detail as possible to bring your vision to life. Utilize all your senses in describing it -- sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. See your vision as an already accomplished reality in the present, not merely as something you want or hope to have happen. If you construct your vision as something you hope to have, the wanting, desiring and not

What qualities and values will you embody? How will you look and come across to others? What will your self-image be? • What will you do with your life when you possess these qualities and values? How will you spend a typical day at play and a typical day at work? • What will you have as a result of being these qualities and doing the actions consistent with them? Where will you live? In what type of home and with whom? With what physical possessions will you surround yourself? What other things such as great friends, abundance, personal freedom, peace of mind, etc. will you have? What goals will you accomplish? • Who will you assist or support with these accomplishments? Are there any special people, organizations or causes that will be an important part of your life? • What will your relationships be like? Picture yourself interacting with friends, family, co-workers and all you meet in a way that reflects your high self-esteem and rich friendships. You can’t do this exercise wrong, so have fun creating your vision as a magnificent person worthy of the best that life has to offer. _______________________________

Article Create a Vision For Your Dream Life (continued) daily to our personal and spiritual development. Money is no object for us. We have all of the cars, toys and other possessions we could ever want. A large portion of the income that our organizations produce is used to fund our global humanitarian projects. We have more than enough money to support the dozens of worthwhile causes we’re passionate about. Among these is quality education for all children, programs that champion the magnificence of kids all over the world and support people seeking to better themselves. We travel the world extensively, visiting every continent and country we’ve ever had an interest in exploring. Many of our partners have taken on similarly rewarding lifestyles fueled by their passions. We’ve made friends everywhere we’ve traveled and have lived our lives as a daring adventure, always in search of the awesome power of possibilities. As you can see, my vision is clear and fueled by my passions, life purpose and values. It sources my self-esteem through contributions to people and those ideals most important to me. It motivates me to grow and excel and by speaking it, I inspire others to both join me in its realization and create empowering visions of their own. Visions supply the creative energy that speeds the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly. They nourish our ambitions, help clarify our intentions and elevate our self-esteem to the extent that we have the courage to create them, speak them so as to inspire others and believe in their ultimate realization. They serve as the blueprint for the magnificent castle we will build with the granite blocks of our actions and the mortar of our interpretations.

It’s now your turn to create your very own empowering vision. Please do not pass up this opportunity to take advantage of the magic that it can unleash in transforming your life and self-image. The ultimate value of a vision is that it serves as a motivating place to come from, rather than a place to get to. Visions are also dynamic. As you achieve certain aspects of your vision, it will evolve to include new and previously unforeseen elements. Some aspects of your current vision will also change in time to no longer be part of your evolving vision. For these reasons, visions are always in need of periodic review and reevaluation. They serve to inspire and motivate you and others, not to restrict your options and vitality. Once you have created your written vision, commit to reading it twice daily without fail, in the morning upon rising and in the evening right before bedtime. As the vision becomes an intention and expectation, your belief in its ultimate realization will support its manifestation into the world. As Walt Disney once said, “All your dreams can come true, if you have the courage to pursue them.” Exercise: Write out your personal empowering vision in first person and present tense. Describe in detail what every aspect of your life will be like. Read your vision at least twice each day.

Article Fundamentals: Accurate and Timely Financial Information by John Barbar

Data should be reported daily, weekly and monthly. Here are three ideas. Daily Activities Key indicators vary by industry, include operations and finances, and must be measured daily.

“Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.” Jim Rohn Vince Lombardi and John Wooden, two of the greatest coaches of all time, stressed the importance of fundamentals. Coach Lombardi took a mediocre team, the Green Bay Packers, and turned it into a dynasty - with many of the same players. He focused on fundamentals. An example: Lombardi, in a team meeting, held up a ball and said, “Men, this is a football.” In his first year at UCLA Bill Walton remembers Coach Wooden showing them how to put on their shoes and socks! Wooden demonstrated what his players could control - starting with protecting their feet. (Listen as Bill Walton tells this story Click Here.) Focusing on the fundamentals is important in all areas of life. An essential for any business, is providing accurate and timely financial information to leaders. This act allows them to run the company more effectively and empowers their decision making.

Critical issues include man days or hours (how long does it take to get the job done); number of leads generated; sales calls made; service calls completed; bids delivered; or sales closed. Key question to ask: what daily activities lead to the results we want? Weekly Results Activities must lead to results. A dashboard delivered to the CEO and key leaders each Monday, show the effectiveness of these actions. The dashboard reflects: a cash forecast; accounts receivable and accounts payable summaries; sales for the week; monthly sales forecast; overtime hours; and a forecasted profit and loss for the month. Key question to ask: does this report provide an accurate picture of where the company is now and will be at month end? Monthly Performance Monthly financial reports should be completed by the 10th day of the following month. There will be limited surprises in these reports as it confirms the information reviewed on a daily and weekly basis. The monthly reporting package includes: a balance sheet; comparative income statement – budget vs. actual; previous year vs.

Can You Hear Me Now? Listen Up and Really Get What People Are Saying

(Part 1)

by Elvira Amankwa, CMP, Impact Creations, LLC

Hearing is absorbing the sound of the spoken word with the ear. Listening, however, is absorbing the meaning of the spoken word by the brain. It is the conscious effort to not just hear with the ear, but to intellectually and emotionally understand the total message that is being conveyed. And even though all of us were born with two ears and one mouth, active listening is hard for many of us. In fact, depending on the study quoted, we remember a dismal 25-50% of what we hear. That means that when you talk to your clients, colleagues, spouse, etc. for 10 minutes, they only really hear 2½-5 minutes of the conversation. How well (or active) we listen can have a major impact on our overall effectiveness, our ability to persuade, influence and negotiate, and also on the quality of our relationships. It’s a communication skill that requires lots of practice and patience, concentration and determination. Often it just seems easier to employ the mouth and hurriedly cut someone short and comment

immediately, rather than exercising discipline, using those two ears and listening deliberately with interest and curiosity. As a meeting professional, I am in contact with many unique individuals from all walks of life. Even though they are all different, there is one unifying factor – and that’s the fact that every single one of them has a story. I have learned that listening to that story allows me to connect with people and to initiate and cultivate relationships. It’s a profound truth that “It’s all about the gift you give and one of the greatest gifts is two open ears” (Maribeth Kuzmeski).

So listen up! Start using active listening today to improve your communication, to increase your productivity and to enhance your relationships.

To become an active listener and really get what people are saying, try the following: 1. Stay focused on your goal to truly understand what the other person is saying 2. Set aside all other thoughts and concentrate on the message 3. Listen for the remarkable (the “story”) 4. Mentally repeat the words that you are hearing to control your mind and prevent it from drifting 5. Use verbal acknowledgements, such as “uh huh” 6. Use your body language (tilted heat, nod of the head, direct eye contact) to acknowledge that you are deliberately listening
