2019 ANNUAL REPORT

Dear Friends,

It’s been an outstanding year at the Whaling Museum, and I want to thank our loyal and growing community of members, partners and other supporters for helping to drive our many projects forward. From Whales Today to Fortier to Dutch paintings, our exhibitions and programs have made an impact.

We celebrated a year of impressive milestones: De Wind is Op!: Climate, Culture and Innovation in Dutch Maritime Painting gained international recognition and drew partners from the National Gallery of Art, the Harvard Art Museum and the MFA. With the Apprenticeship Program celebrating a decade of triumphs, we applauded our four most recent graduates and helped to launch their college careers at UMass Amherst, UMass Dartmouth, Providence College and Bristol Community College. The historic Bourne and Wood buildings also received some much-needed investments in critical repairs.

This community’s support makes it possible for the Museum to preserve, interpret and make accessible the stories of our unique shared history—stories of the people, places and forces that shape and celebrate our vibrant region.
