Last Meeting Notes Pres Bob called meeting at 12:30 Invocation: Greg Arbues Pledge: Bailey Smith 4-Way Test: Ed Smith Visiting Rotarians and Guests: John Brainerd as Sgt of Arms recognized a large number of visitors and guests. Rotarians included Paul Hsu from Taiwan, now resident in OC & Steve Hammers, with the eCLub. Norm Wittt introduced his son Steven A Witt. Jared Roethlisberger Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch was introduced as a guest. Prior Rotarians who joined us included Jim Villers, Shannon Burns & Al Rasch. Jim was good for a series of his great jokes. Rockne Flanagan introduced his wife Shirley. Dave Halm introduced his neighbor, Fred Maley a former Rotarian and past city manager of Villa Park. Honorary member Greg Arbues introduced his guest as did Jim Parsons, his son Jim. Brian Gates, our Italy-based member, shared details of his business and family life in Rome Italy and USA; good to see you back Brian... Announcements: - Norm Witt asked members for donations to help Scouts attend summer camp; contact Norm if you can help Scout Troop 645. -­‐ Cecil Hess mentioned the Stop Hunger Now event on Saturday

with 6 members participating: Cecil himself, Ed & Carol Smith, Jim Parsons, Guy Harden and “Singh” Sawhney. Fun & a great event packing 100,000 meals. Fine Mistress Blanca tested our CPA members for knowledge of the highest tax jurisdictions.... Collecting from those who did not know Aruba and Sweden exceeded US rates. Program of the Day: John Moorlach, our Orange County Supervisor from the 2nd district was our special speaker Thursday. John’s talk featured an update on the current situation facing our county government. He gave a sobering overview of county finances, the employee Pension Obligations with possible solutions, and some State Initiatives which affect the county and the financial stability our local government faces in the coming years. Thursday, April 4th Roger McGonegal -Rotary Foundation Grants PDG and District Foundation Chair McGonegal will present an overview of the new Rotary Grants Model for RI Global and District Grants. The Key to obtaining future grants is club participation in a Grants Management Seminar, available to members either on April 6 or April 20, and the signing of a Memo of Understanding. Roger is a native of suburban New York who spent his early summers working at a small resort hotel owned by his family in western Connecticut.
