As a committee we always encourage out members to contribute and have your say, don’t just leave it to us or we start to do the same old things that we know.

President Welcome to March 2021, Firstly, I would like to apologise for cancelling our meeting at the last minute last month. I did go online hoping to catch up with some of you but missed out as I had logged off just as some others had also had the same idea and went online. March meeting will go ahead, it will be the start of the long weekend but we would love for people to come for the social contact before heading away if you are able. For April’s meeting I have been able to source a meet and greet with a look around his workshop with Chas Talbot – the Racing car driver. I have said to Chas that well can arrange Pizzas for the night so that will be food for thoughts. I have known Chas for a number of years now and I am looking forward to hearing more about his story. It is with sad news that I have to inform you that Rhiannon has needed to resign from her position as Vice President. She has been an awesome VP for me and helped me beyond words when I have had other things going. Thanks you for everything Rhi, and don’t be a stranger and disappear into oblivion. To add to this, John has also needed to resign due to not being able to find time to commit to his Rally Secretary job, his work / life / motorsport existence just was not balancing out and something had to give. Thanks John for trying to juggle everything. Stewie Stevenson has offered to step up to this position to help us out so thanks Stewie for this. It has been a very strange start of the year with no club presentation night to help with, chasing up the trophies for engraving etc, so lets hope that this year is better for competition and we all get to enjoy ourselves. Please remember that if you want to score points for any event that you attend, officialing or competing under the NCCA banner then please ensure that you forward these details onto me for scoring until we get another VP. Allrounder award – how to earn points for this trophy – This is a competition trophy that you need to enter multiple disciplines to be eligible for awards, it is very much a keep plodding along and do as many various events that you can do so points keep adding up. You must finish at least 2 of each discipline to qualify. Khana / Khanacross Track work / Sprint Autocross Rally Attend a couple of club socials / meetings / officialing etc. Juniors in the club, remember that we also have junior trophies for all areas of motorsport, so get out there with your friends or parents and have lots of fun. Bring a friend to keep you company on the drive to our meeting on Friday 12th March at 8.15pm, at The Manningham.

Vice President Nissan Car Club Australia is on the hunt for a new VP! If you’re interested in this role, and believe you can bring fantastic ideas and positive contributions to our club like our previous VP, contact Lynn via email: klcuttle@gmail.com - Mason

Secretary Firstly, I would like to apologise to any Club member who was planning to come along to the meeting that was scheduled for the 12th February. Unfortunately, as we all know, COVID-19 raised it ugly head again. The Committee thought that it would be better to err on the side of caution and cancel the meeting altogether and protect all those who were planning to attend. Rather than maybe have the possibility of someone getting sick from this awful virus. Let’s hope that the next meeting, which will be on 12th March, will be able to go ahead. It will be great to get out there and actually talk to real people again. Now, my next bit. The Committee would really like to hear from Members for ideas for getting together to do other things as a Club. If you have any ideas PLEASE let one of us know. We want to get as many members of the Club involved with the Club as possible. I know it has been a hard twelve months but now is the time to start planning and organising activities to get back out there and enjoy life again. So, if you have an idea, LET US KNOW. Nothing will be disregarded and we can chat about it at the Club meetings. Finally, if you have any articles or want to write any thing (doesn’t necessarily need to be about motorsport) please just do it and send it through to Mason. I know he would love to have more content in the magazine for everyone to read. Hope to see you all soon

Treasurer Bank Balance as at 24/02/2021

$38511.18

Still a healthy bank balance to date. Still yet to finalise Valley Stages, waiting on some prize winning payments to be issued for some lucky competitors. It appears the event was a success, all and sundry had a very good run or time and getting ready for upcoming events. The SSS build has slowed as I am waiting for a cylinder head to have hardened seats fitted, my lightened flywheel balanced with clutch and pressure plate, rebuilding the head, fit to motor, fit webers and so on. It was very upsetting that our first monthly meet was cancelled at the last minute due to the lock down, but I was still working through it. Looks like we have survived and very much look forward to our next monthly meeting.

Editor Hi all, Sorry about the magazine being late (again). Work has been picking up which is excellent. I’ve filmed everything from Motorsport to Ballet in the past month. Has been busy indeed! Welcome to all of our new members, I look forward to seeing what you contribute to the club. Good to see Jamie Hazelden’s name on the list. I’ve known him for a good few years now. As usual, looking for special articles from members. These can be anything from event reports through to detailing a build that you’re doing / have got! See you on the other side of the month!

Membership Hi All, It looks like we’ll finally be able to get off the couch and go do some events (fingers crossed)! Last weekend I sat in the silly seat for Kim O’Halloran in the mighty Evo III. It was hot and humid, but I had a lot of fun as Kim did the hard job of both driver and navigator – hey, I did bring the party mix lollies! We’ve had some new members join the club this year, so if you see your name, you’re one of them! Welcome to Nicholas Young, Andrew Heath, Joey Riggio, Russell Marnock, Jamie Hazelden, Anthony Velicki (first time Nav on the weekend), Franco Liucci, Bradley Young, Albert Nee, Rukshan Wickramasinghe, Daylan Carstens, and last but not least Leigh, Ben and Sam Burchat. Keep a lookout in the Mag and on the club Facebook page for dates of events and nights out. Hope to see you soon. That’s it from me Name

Rally Last weekend was the running of the George Woods Memorial Rally at Powelltown. A field of 39 cars ran four day stages and four night stages. The NCCA members who ran are Tony and Mitch Fleming who took out 1st outright, Russell and Cary Seabrook who took out 5th outright, Kim O’Halloran and Aiden Peart who took out 15th outright, John Marson who took out 16th outright and Anthony Velicki who was co-driver for another club’s driver in a Datsun Stanza that DNF. It was great to see quite a few NCCA members out there officiating and supporting newcomers to our awesome motor sport. The first round of the VRC/VCRS is the Mitta Mountain Rally running out of Mitta Mitta on Saturday 20th March. Round 2 of the VRC/VCRS running out of Neerim South on Saturday the 17th April. Hope to see lots of NCCA members running in both series. Let’s kick HRA’s butt this year! ** Additional report by Kim O’Halloran: Victoria’s latest COVID lockdown ended just in time for the first rally of the year to run and the sigh of relief from the organisers and competitors could be heard everywhere! 40 crews made the way to Poweltown on February 27th for the George Woods Rally. This is traditionally the first event of the rally year and is aimed at novice crews. This meant that some NCCA members swapped sides of the car for what was to be a hot and dusty rally. Although running under a different club due to not renewing their memberships in time, Tony and Mitch Fleming took out first outright in the event. Tony hadn’t driven in a while and Mitch swapped to the navigator’s side of the Commodore and this clearly worked very well! Their times were very consistent and this paid off with the win. Russell Seabrook and Cary Seabrook were the next NCCA crew home. The two brothers had swapped from their more recent rally roles with Russell driving and Cary navigating in Russell’s Subaru Impreza. A consistent run saw them finish in 5th place.

Rally (cont) There was another crew seat swap with Kim O’Halloran and Aiden Peart reversing roles and taking Aidan’s Evo out for a spin. It was a cruisy event for them with no issues, apart from a driver needing new glasses so she could actually see at night. Perhaps she should go and visit Tony Fleming…. Kim and Aiden finished 15th. Anthony Velicki was navigating in a Stanza and he was doing well for the first two sections, even being 4th quickest on the first one. An unknown reason saw him pull out of the event after this.

Motorkhana Hey guys Our Motorkarna championship has kicked of for this year and the good news is that you still have a chance to bring home the spoils. Why you may ask? Well the combination of an engagement party and George Woods rally resulted in no NCCA members competing. So round 1 of the group 5 and no members from the G5 CHAMPION CLUB competed yep you read that right NCCA won the Group 5. This was a team effort with Abbi taking our the women’s and also securing equal champion. Stewart Stevenson won his class for the year, adding another piece to the pool room. The Thorpe’s could only manage 2nd in class with Jarvis coming second in experienced juniors (beaten by a brick) Micah coming 2nd in inexperienced juniors (driving with a broken arm in the final round) and me Lucas lacking skill to make first by a couple of flags. So can we do it again not without you - WE NEED YOU! Come along and compete at the next round A Motorkarna at Werribee on March 14 if you come along I shout you a potato cake from the local Fish and Chip shop - it’s great

Autocross **No report**

Racing The MSCA is looking for people for all member clubs to volunteer and help run things. Particularly at the moment they are trying to build up the numbers of flag marshals to spread the load about. Below is an article shared from the Austin Healey’s SDC where a member talks about his enjoyment of volunteering. Please have a read and consider if you can help out, representing the NCCA – you will get club champion points for it, a free lunch and other rewards! Callum Greetings to all AHSDC members, and we all trust that 2021 is gonna be better than 2020! Our Club was formed as a Drivers’ Club, not just a show and shine outfit. In the early days of our Club, driving, and associated competition was what it was all about. We were young, mostly without kids, and punting our Spridgets around flags, hammering up Lakeland or peaking it out at the Island was the norm. Today of course, things are a little different. Our cars are 50 and 60+ years old, they are becoming fragile and expensive to fix/repair….and yet there are still amongst us who like to have a bash. Our Club was a founding member of the MSCA and in the early days we often made up nearly half the competition field. Time marches on and today it’s the MX5 and modern Lotus numbers who dominate the speed events, with a smattering of small and big Healeys, Triumphs, MGB’s, Dattos and the like from the 60’s and 70’s. Few who compete, then and now, probably give much thought as to how events run…you rock up, get scrutineered, wait for your Run group and then hit the track for your stint. The organisation that goes into running a Sprint event today is a far cry from yesteryear, with ever increasing OH&S regulations, training of officials etc. One of the aspects of competition that goes unheralded is that of the Flag Marshalls, without whom no event can run. MSCA has been fortunate for many years to have had professional Flaggies but this stopped in 2020 and with the dreaded Cov 19 preventing any competition in Victoria for most of the year, the MSCA Committee had to come up with an alternative or there would be no more Sprint meetings full stop. Necessity is the mother of invention and the stalwarts at the MSCA were given great help by the Porsche Club who had been running their own Flag Marshalling team for some time. The word went out for volunteers from the MSCA Member Clubs to form a new MSCA Flaggies Team, to be mentored by the Porsche guys when competition revived late in 2020. Some 20 odd put up their hands, self included. A little daunting at first, I had to come to grips with Zoom meetings and some other “Computer Stuff”…..you must understand that it ain’t easy for a Boy named Sue, or for Boomers like me, for whom the mysteries of computers/keyboards is akin to understanding the Black Magic of Lucas electrics. It all worked out OK in the end with lots of help from Ken Price and the Porsche boys. I am now a “qualified” flaggie and really, the cost is only your time and the fuel to get to and from a meeting. Mostly it’s common sense, but there are some finer points to learn. MSCA now have a Flaggies Team, BUT, several of us also like to compete as well, something we can’t do if we are flagging at a Sprint meeting. Thus we need more people to put up their hand to train to join the team. Over the decades many of us have had a great deal of enjoyment from our participation in motorsport at Club level, if you feel that your time on the track is past, or even if you can help out on a part time basis, MSCA wants to hear from you to bolster the Team. I appeal to all our members to consider volunteering some of your time to help keep our competition alive. MSCA is generous with lunches provided and a little “something” in an envelope for your efforts on the day. It doesn’t take much, the paperwork is pretty simple and the training is all done online initially. Once you’ve passed the online “test” you are mentored on your first day as a Flaggie and you soon get the hang of what’s required. A “working with children” Pass is required, again, available online with a visit to your local Post Office for a photo. As a volunteer, this Pass is free, but does cost if the Pass is required for paid work. All in all, it’s a rewarding experience, and you can really get into the way some people negotiate corners at speed, from the super smooth “oldies” in well sorted machines, to the “newbies” working like crazy at the wheel

Racing (cont) some people negotiate corners at speed, from the super smooth “oldies” in well sorted machines, to the “newbies” working like crazy at the wheel with pupils the size of dinner plates as they get offline near tyre walls, all good stuff! Please give this appeal your consideration, it’s a good feeling to give something back for the all the years you’ve enjoyed what our Club and the MSCA has given you.
