HOMEFREE USA
A BRIDGE TO FINANCIAL STRENGTH AND HOMEOWNERSHIP SUCCESS FOR NCCU STUDENTS HomeFree-USA is on a mission to be the premier bridge to financial strength and homeownership success for people of color across America. Understanding issues related to the wealth gap and home ownership for communities of color, HomeFree has made a commitment to bring important instruction to Historical Black Colleges and Universities across the nation. Founded by Marcia and Jim Griffin in 1994 to service the specific needs related to wealth accumulation in the black community, today HomeFree is the largest African American mortgage servicing company in the country. This HBCU initiative is empowering students to not only obtain helpful tools to properly manage student debt, make money while in college, maintain an A+ credit, and buy a home at a younger
age, but is also equipping them with the necessary financial education to take back to their respective communities as financial consultants. Their October 18th Day of Empowerment featured Randal Pinkett, author of Campus CEO: The Students Entrepreneur’s Guide to Launching A Multimillion-Dollar Business. Students applied to attend the workshop and received a stipend to support their respective financial needs. "While attending the workshops with Home FreeUSA, I was able to gain a better understanding that your network is your network. The presentations and opportunities that were presented truly made me think and learn how to better handle my money while developing multiple sources of income," said Drake Dais, senior, business-administration human resources major.

Junior, Marketing and Accounting This summer I had the privilege of being exposed to many datadriven software programs, such as Alteryx, Tableau and PowerBI. This was all attributed to my experience as a Core Assurance Intern at PwC. It was amazing to see the transformation of the accounting industry to be more analytics based, and I have been able to be interviewed by many Fortune 500 companies simply because of my knowledge of the programs. I know that this exposure to data analytics tools will fuel my career in the same way it is fueling the transformation of the financial services industry overall."

Entrepreneurship-Events appropriate financial resources to supporting entrepreneurial endeavors and having confidence to pursue your passion. Spero challenged the students to use any selfdoubt to propel and spur their creativity. Moore encouraged the students to find sources of motivation that can grant them the required confidence to move forward in their respective aspirations. Ms. Brewington charged the students with standing firm in their ideas, moving with passion to bring forth new and innovative perspectives. Mr. Slade imparted the credo of learning first and earning second as an important means from which profitable and sustainable businesses emerge. Bethea rounded off the discussion by providing these sentiments: “You can’t buy or fake hard work. When working for yourself, the motivation seems endless, so it is ok to have short term goals.” "ATTENDING THIS BUSINESS PANEL GAVE ME GREAT INSIGHT INTO THE ENTREPRENEURIAL WORLD. It has inspired me to not only continuously work on my craft but also challenge the true realms of creative solutions in a business environment. I am appreciative of the opportunity, and for a young creative such as myself, McKinney and their work environment is the perfect environment to learn and grow.
