GAMZA GOOL (63) from Kimberley was proud to be amongst the millions of people who signed the condolences book for Nelson Mandela last week. After he had stood in the queue for at least 10 minutes he was a bit disappointed by the empty Mayibuye Hall to where people had been invited to sign the condolences book. The hall had been set up for a public viewing of the live broadcast send-off ceremony for the late Nelson
Mandela from the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. A group of people sang struggle songs outside the hall, but the hall was empty due to the set-up. It was difficult to view the service on the small screen set up for the large crowds. “I can guarantee you we all love Mandela in our slow province. But the reason people left is because of the poor set-up of the viewing area. They prefer to watch the live broadcast in the comfort of their homes where they do not need to strain their
eyes to see the screen. “Even the light is too much because one can hardly see anything,” said one of ten people sitting and watching the ceremony inside the hall. Gool said he had met and known Mandela since his release from prison. “He was an amazing person. I was the one who used to drive him around when he visited the province. I was also amongst those who organised sponsorships and made it possible for him to get a private jet to fly him around
the province for his safety,” he revealed. Gool said the youth and children had to be told more about Madiba and the role he had played in South African lives. “Here we are talking about our original leader who brought freedom, selflessness, respect and dignity to all South Africans. “The youth need to be taught more about our history. Even our leaders are not putting enough effort into spreading the message about Madiba. “They should face reality and make a greater effort to get the youth back because the older comrades already have one foot in the grave,” said Gool. As an ANC member who had joined the party soon after the 1976 riots, Gool further said he had had close encounters with the likes of Robert Sobukwe. He, however, denounced those who kept on looting government funds – funds meant to improve the lives of the poor. “With every million that disappears in the government 25 RDP houses can be built. These officials must stop being greedy and they should stop stealing government money,” he said. In Gool’s opinion the government would not be able to make the 2014 eradication of shacks deadline if money kept on disappearing in government offices. According to him, the current politicians had joined the ANC for their own gain and as a result of greed. “They must wake up and know that greed leads to a loss of dignity. We joined the ANC for no gain, it was out of the goodness of our hearts. “That is why I’ll keep on sponsoring the party without expecting a tender or something in return,” concluded this proud member of the ANC. Nelson Mandela was laid to rest during a send-off ceremony at his hometown in Qunu on Sunday.

THE rain on Sunday did no dampen the spirits of gospel lovers in the province. Despite the fact that the Diamond City Revival only started at 16:00 due to the rain, gospel lovers waited in their cars for the rain to stop before setting up their cooler boxes and camping chairs again on the GWK lawn to wait for the festival to begin. The show was started by Kirk Franklin who gave the screaming audience a heartfelt performance and a platform to sing along with most of his songs. “It was beautiful, it was spectacular and worth waiting for the rain to stop,” said Dimakatso Lechwenyo one of the Express Northern Cape ticket winners for the first Diamond City Revival Festival with Kirk Franklin, Joyous Celebration & Khaya Mthethwa with the Gospel Alive choir last weekend. She said it had been the best decision for Franklin to start the show because he had had enough time to give them a lot to work with. She thanked the paper for the opportunity to see an international artist perform live. “If it were not for Joyous Celebration sponsoring my ticket, the festival would have remained a dream. I am so grateful to them and Express Northern Cape,” she said. “He performed many songs from his old and new album and we forgot that we were soaked because were jumping and singing along,” added Lechwenyo. The audience was also touched by a tribute to the legendary late Nelson Mandela led by the ANC activist and member of the provincial legislature Evelyn Lubidla during the show who lead them in the song Nelson Mandela, ha hona ya tshwanang le ena.
That was just before the performance by Joyous Celebration. According to the three artists, they were in the province to wipe away the tears that had been shed in the past. By that they were referring to the rape of baby Lerato by her uncle last month. During the press briefing at the Protea Hotel before the festival, the promoters of the festival, Maverick State, announced the setting up of a care fund for six-week-old Lerato who had been raped in Galeshewe three weeks ago. “The fund was initiated by Maverick State, the promoters of the Kirk Franklin, Joyous Celebration & Khaya Mthethwa show. “Some of the proceeds of the gospel concert were pledged to the fund and are intended to go towards assisting the child’s family to help pay for her medical expenses and other needs,” said the promotors. Maverick State has also challenged the business community in Kimberley and beyond, along with all the service providers involved in this concert, to donate to the fund which will be managed by the Northern Cape Office of the Premier on behalf of the baby’s family. To date the fund has received support from the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development, Department of Sport, Arts and Culture as well as the Sol Plaatje Municipality. The crowd also welcomed Mthethwa with open arms and sang along. Joyous Celebration, who closed the show, gave a reviving performance where Puleng March, one of Kimberley’s own, braced the stage and had locals eating from her hands. ) Go to our website on www.expressnews.co.za for more pictures of the festival.

} Dr Thapelo Thipe SOUTH AFRICA has just come out of a very difficult time of mourning the death of the father of the nation, beloved late Tata. We thank the nation for the great honour they bestowed on Madiba. Madiba indeed deserved such great honouring, not only from South African, but the rest of the world as we have witnessed. We recall with gladness and pride in our hearts what Madiba stood for and accomplished. God’s spirit of liberty and freedom for the oppressed blacks in South Africa gripped his heart at an early age. Raised and reared according to strict Christian principles by his mother, Noqaphi Nosekeni, Madiba went on to become God’s answer to the cries and oppression of the majority of the people of South Africa in the same manner Moses was to the children of Israel in Egypt. Embodiment of hope In the wake of heavy-handed oppression the teachings of Christianity threw up a bold and robust man with the spirit of steel to challenge and face head on the evil system. Madiba became the embodiment of hope where there was despair and despondency. He exploited the tenacity of his youth and ingenuity embracing militancy and revolutionary strategies as a means to an end in the struggle for the liberation of his people. His stance made him enemy number one of the Apartheid regime and subsequently Mandela and his comrades were jailed for continuous prolonged periods of incarceration detached from the subcontinent languishing in Robben Island near Cape Town. God sustained Mandela by His grace During incarceration all forces of human degradation and hatred encapsulated in the evil system of oppression hatched by a few white leaders to the enjoyment and benefaction of all white South Africans weighted heavily on Madiba’s shoulders in that despicable and abominable epoch in the history of our country. While Mandela was in jail the armed struggle continued and many lives were lost on the side of the freedom fighters and on the side of the illegitimate regime. The oppressor became more brutal, callous and hardened, both to the incarcerated and the black South Africans. Nevertheless, God sustained Mandela by His grace and mercy until international sanctions, internal uprisings and violent protests, including the external armed struggle concomitantly, created an atmosphere conducive for a peaceful settlement in South Africa. about a peaceful and democratic South Africa. The first democratic Readers say elections were held. The ANC won a resounding two thirds majority and Mandela went on to become South Africa’s first democratically elected president. Always willing to serve During his rule he transcended personal pain and suffering to forgive his foes and enemies. Not only did he personally forgive but he led all South Africans on a course of peace and reconciliation giving birth to the rainbow nation. He came out of oppression totally transformed and a better leader. Always willing to serve and ready to listen to the views and opinions of others, particularly those who disagreed with him. He served with austere integrity, humility and sincerity of heart targeting the improvement of the quality of life of the poor. He lived his life dedicated to the service and wellbeing of his people, Africa and the world.
During his rule he transcended personal pain and suffering to forgive his foes and enemies. His selfless service earned him the reputation to become one of the greatest leaders of our time. Never in the history of the world has a huge number of leaders converged at one point and at the same time like it happened at the National Memorial of Madiba at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Footprints of indelible dimensions Indeed in his life and in his death Mandela remained a history maker of grandeur proportions. He leaves the world stage gravid and aplomb with worthy leadership lessons. He lived his life to the fullest, defeating the evil of oppression, injustice and inequality. He leaves behind footprints of indelible dimensions on the world stage for all to follow. ) Madiba leaves a legacy of racial tolerance. ) We should learn to overcome the remnants of racism that from time to time rear its ugly head. ) As for his ideals and values this world could become a better place only if we do not just envy him but also rise up to withhold the lofty principles he embraced. ) The prison was a desolate place intended to break down and dampen his spirit, however he emerged out of prison

We shall rise up and change the status quo through the ballot paper. ) Due to Madiba Apartheid has been defeated. Therefore we shall cease to appoint leaders on the sentiments of the Apartheid struggle nor on the basis of the colour of their skin but rather on the skills values and principles they represent and implement ) Madiba had the unwavering resolve and focus to face challenges head on and prevail. ) We shall do the same. ) He served with compassion and humility. ) He was a good custodian and steward of the finances and assets of the state. ) Let us honour the memory of Madiba by doing likewise with the trust the nation has given us as leaders. ) His forgiveness and reconciliatory stance endeared him to friend and foe alike. ) Love your enemy and do good to those that hate you. May South Africa become a better place due to the struggle and the leadership of icon, Nelson Mandela. May God grant his soul eternal rest in His glory. May South Africa become a better place for all. God bless South Africa.

Ntanga positive about encounter

‘I’m positive we’ll win our remaining matches before the Christmas break to move up the ta ble. We want to end the year on a positive note.’ – Vuyani Ntanga
} Sidwell Guduka VUYANI NTANGA, Bloemfontein Celtic’s chief pain inflictor, believes that his club will continue from where they left off against Golden Arrows when they square off with Ajax Cape Town tonight. The sides will battle it out for three points when they meet in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Cape Town Stadium. The kickoff is scheduled for 19:30. Phunya Sele Sele defeated Abafana Besthende 3-0 in their most recent game in Botshabelo and they will be hoping to continue their fine form against Ajax. “We are going to Cape Town hoping to register our third successive win. It is going to be an entertaining match, especially after they defeated Maritzburg United in their last game. “Hopefully we’ll collect maximum points to improve our log position,” Ntanga told Express. Ntanga has been scoring crucial goals for Celtic and should feature in the bigger plans of coach Ernst Middendorp, who has turned the Free State side into a well-oiled machine. The 25-year-old Klerksdorp-born midfielder was key for Siwelele when they destroyed both Orlando Pirates and Arrows with a 3-2 (away) and 3-0 (home) win in their last two outings. Ntanga scored a goal in each match to help Celtic move into the top eight bracket. “It was nice to score against Pirates and Arrows. I’m planning to make it a habit to score in every match I play. I know my opponents will be giving me special attention, but I’ll try to use every chance I
get.” Ntanga is loved by hordes of Celtic fans, but he believes he still has to improve a lot before rating amongst the best. “I’m happy about my current form, but it is not enough. There is much space for improvement. I have always been a hard worker and that will never change. “My teammates at Celtic are very supportive of me. Credit should be given to them for my improved form. We work as a team at Celtic and everybody understands how the coach wants us to play. “Coach Middendorp is also supportive of us and we have never lost a match since he took over as head coach. If we continue to play to his instructions I don’t see any team stopping us.” Celtic are currently placed eighth on the log table with 16 points from 12 matches, while Ajax are sitting on position nine with the same number of points and games. The Bloemfontein side next travels to Johannesburg for a date with Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday. The match starts at 20:15. “I’m positive we’ll win our remaining matches before the Christmas break to move up the table. We want to end the year on a positive note.” ) The Bloemfontein Celtic Supporters Club has organised a trip to the Celtic versus Wits match on Saturday. The return fare is R300, match ticket included. Buses will depart from the Celtic offices in Elizabeth Street on match-day at 11:00. For more information call Moipone on 076-824-7183.
