‘Please forgive me’

Cheater outed by message } Tladi Moloi PAST. LUNDISO MABE (20) of the Throne Grace Church lost his wife, Masentle Mabe (21), because he had cheated on her. Now the young pastor has come to the newspaper to apologise publicly to his wife. “I would like to apologise in public because I need my wife back. “I told her that I am going public (with the apology) and she said it was fine with her. I believe that after this she will come back home,” he said. He said his wife and he had been happily married, but that this had turned ugly after his wife had found out that she had been sharing her husband with other girls. The two got married in April last year and they had been living, together with Mabe’s parents, at his home village Chris Hani Park in Qwaqwa. Mabe is a well-known upcoming gospel artist with a golden voice. He admitted he had been cheating, but said: “I was in love with some of the girls on Facebook but we never met.” He said they had sent romantic messages via Facebook but that one day his wife had read one of the messages. “She searched my phone while I was sleeping and she got to a message that read: ‘Good night, my love’. She was livid but didn’t ask me about it. “She left the phone with the message on the screen so that I would realise she had read it,” he said. Mabe said they had fought for a week until the issue had been brought to their parents’ attention, but his wife would not listen and left.

Two in jail after attacking couple TWO young men, Moeketsi Mokoena (25) and Thabiso Jonas Malakoane (23), from Bohlokong near Bethlehem were sentenced to more than 20 years’ imprisonment each by the Bethlehem Regional Court for housebreaking with the intent to rape, attempted rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. They were both sentenced last Thursday. Mokoena was sentenced to 20 years effective on housebreaking with the intent to rape and attempted rape while Malakoa-

ne will spend 23 years in prison on housebreaking with the intent to rape and rape. They were both charged for stabbing the man who had tried to protect his wife. On 26 December 2011 at about 22:30 the 50-year-old woman and her husband were sitting in the kitchen of their house when two young men known to the husband and armed with knives forcefully entered their house. They asked for their daughter who was not at home. The two accused, Mokoena and Malakoa-

ne, dragged the couple into the bedroom where one of them started raping the woman in the presence of her husband. The husband tried to fight back, but they stabbed him. The two were arrested two days after the incident and remained in prison without bail awaiting their fate. The case was investigated by WO Malefetsane Mokone of the Bethlehem Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

“I want to thank the victims for reporting the incident and working together with the investigating officer to ensure that justice prevails. “It’s crucial to clearly identify your attackers in whatever way possible because that will secure evidence and sound sentencing in court. “Let’s break the silence on abuse and crimes against women, men and children,” said Lt. Gen. Simon Mpembe, the Free State provincial commissioner.

Mayor wishes matrics well

VUSI TSHABALALA, the acting mayor of the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality, has congratulated the gr. 12 class of 2013 and encouraged them to work harder at tertiary level. “I want to thank the 2013 matriculants. I want to wish you well on your journey from here,” said Tshabalala during the Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality’s congratulatory ceremony which was held last Monday in the Tshiya Resource Centre. He said the ceremony was aimed at celebrating excellence by hard-working, dedicated and determined learners and schools, as well as rewarding those schools who had made a signifi-

cant effort in improving their matric results outcome this year, referring to them as best improved schools. “The journey to your success has begun but is far from over. We bid you farewell and wish you further growth in your varsity and college experiences to come. In all your future endeavours, please take responsibility and remember that you are accountable for your own future,” he said. The Rantsane Secondary School is one the best improved schools with a pass rate of 100% and was given a cheque for R10 000 by the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality.

PARENTS, learners and the management of the New Horizon College in Bethlehem during the official opening of the school.

New beginnings for college } Tladi Moloi

“WE know that children are valuable assets to their parents and we promise to make sure that we give your children what we promised,” said Jonny Eyberg, the founder of New Horizon College in Bethlehem. Eyberg said that while addressing the

parents and learners during the opening of New Horizon College in Bethlehem. The New Horizon College in Harrismith is a well-known private school in the Free State because of the hard work done there. The Harrismith school has obtained a 100% pass rate for six years consecutively and Eyberg promised the same quality results would be achieved.

“I want all the matriculants in Bethlehem to pass with distinction because that will open doors for them. Every child has been born with talent, and it is our vision and mission to develop that talent,” he said. The school opened on Wednesday at Du Plessis Park, 2 Cambridge Street, and offers classes gr. 1, gr. 2, gr. 3, gr 4 and gr. 8.

Eyberg urged the parents to work with them for the success of the school. “We need you. We all know that three things are necessary in education: a parent, child and a teacher.” He concluded that the school would enforce the same discipline and high standard of teaching as its Harrismith branch.

Nedbank Cup heating up

FREE STATE STARS will play Witbank Spurs, a team playing in the National First Division (NFD), in the last-32 leg of the Nedbank Cup Tournament, while African Warriors will play Mainstay United. The dates and venues for the games are yet to be confirmed, but the first-round games are scheduled to be played between 19 and 26 February. The draw was conducted last Thursday. The two teams from the Eastern Free State will be hoping to win their games to advance to the second stage. The struggling Maihlome Ihlasele will surely be worried as they have never played against these opponents before. However, Ea Lla Koto knows what to expect when they face Spurs, as they knocked out the same opponents in last year’s edition of the tournament beating them 1-0 at the Charles Mopeli Stadium. The Nedbank Cup Tournament is the only cup competition in the South African League to set a contest for the Absa Premier League, NFD and the South African Football Association (Safa) teams. The 16 teams from South Africa’s top-flight – PSL – have entered the competition along with eight qualifiers from the NFD and a further eight sides from the Safa ranks – which this year includes two teams from the fourth tier of the domestic game, Mainstay United FC from the Northern Cape and the University of Stellenbosch

Coach has his eyes set on a win } Tladi Moloi EDWIN “THE GREAT” MOFOKENG, the Free State Stars Development Academy head coach, has his eyes set on the league championship. Mofokeng hopes his side has whatever it takes to win the Safa Thabo Mofutsanyana SAB Regional League. “We should win the league this season. We have been playing in it for a long time and now it is time to win,” he said. Stars, who have been in the SAB league for four seasons, maintained their undefeated run in the league when they narrowly beat

the struggling Badoroang FC 2-1 in a league game that took place on Sunday in the Bohlokong Stadium. It looked like Badoroang would walk away with the win, but a late goal by Lebusetsa Miya secured the much needed three points for Stars. Teboho Sibeko broke the ice early in the first half with Tshidiso Manyingisa levelling matters in the second stanza. Badoroang missed about four clear chances before Miya hammered the last nail into their coffin. The results saw the Ea Lla Koto development side marching to position two on the

league table with 16 points. They are just two points behind the log leaders Mighty Wits. The free scoring Stars only drew once during their six games against Rhino. They netted 15 goals and conceded only two. The boys in red and white have been proven to have the best defensive record. “The Great” said dedication, discipline and working together as a team was the reason why they had played six games without a loss. He said the players knew what they should achieve this season and were currently on the right track. “We have not yet won the league and if

you check the log, every team still has a chance to win. “It is too early to predict who will win, but we know that we want it more,” he said. He said his team would ensure they approached each and every game like a cup final because there was no easy game in the league. Stars are set for a supercharged encounter against the league rookies Rhino FC at Du Plessis Park on Sunday. The kick-off is scheduled for 15:00. Meanwhile, Mighty Wits beat Rhino 3-1 on their home ground in a league game played on Sunday.

THE South Africa coach Gordon Igesund says his men were outmuscled by Nigeria in their final outing at the African Nations Championship on Sunday night. The Super Eagles knocked Bafana Bafana out of the tournament via a brace from Man of the Match, Ejike Uzoenyi, and a strike from Ifeanyi Ede, with Bernard Parker pulling one back for the hosts at the Cape Town Stadium. Stephen Keshi’s charges advanced to the quarter-finals of the event alongside Group A winners Mali, who came from a goal down to beat Mozambique 2-1 at the Athlone Stadium. “I’m very disappointed not to get something out of this,” Igesund said. “But well done to Nigeria, they were more physical than us and won the second ball and got the goals, so I have to give them credit. “They outmuscled us, they were physically much stronger than us. It’s not an excuse, it’s just how it is. “We tried to create situations, once you’re 2-0 down, you’re gonna take chances and throw bodies forward. “I did that, I had five up front attacking in the last 15 minutes. If we had got a goal a little earlier, something could have hap-

pened, but it was not to be, so well done to them.” Keshi, meanwhile, was buoyed by his side’s efforts, having bounced back from an opening day loss to Mali with back-to-back victories. “The boys fought like wounded lions to stay in this competition,” Keshi said. “I’m very grateful to them and I salute them, they did wonderfully well. “In the first game they had a little bit of stage fright. But I knew their ability, I know what they can do, so I knew they would qualify. “We’ll just take it game by game,” he added of the African champions’ prospects going forward. Meanwhile, Igesund insists that he didn’t have a mandate going into the African Nations Championships, adding that he has no plans of stepping down as national team coach either. Fans were hopeful of a strong showing in the tournament, especially following the memorable win against Spain towards the end of 2013, but it was not to be. Still, Igesund defended his record as head coach and insisted the team was on an

upward curve. “From my personal point of view I had no mandate for this competition; we wanted to be the best we could,” he said after the game. “I’m at peace where I am at the moment. We have played 28 games and have won 14 of those games, that is 50%. We lost seven and drew seven, and along the way we have beaten Spain. “There has been a huge improvement in our football and we have gained a lot of players along the way. I’m at peace with

myself and I’m at peace where we are at the moment.” Asked if he feared the axe after the early exit, Igesund said: “Somewhere along the line, wherever you get employed, you get employed to get fired eventually. “As far as the way forward, I just have to continue where I am. I have a job to do as my contract is until June, so I need to continue working hard and start helping us qualify for the 2015 African Cup of Nations.” – KickOff.com
