GRANBURY BEACH CLEA
Article By: Danielle Scott
On Thursday, June 25th, I attended the Granbury Beach Clean-Up headed by Granbury High School’s Key club. When I arrived; I was greeted by other members within Division 1 South. Key club members were gathered around one of the tables near the beach. All members had welcoming smiles on their faces as I approached them. The Key club members present were from Granbury High School and Paschal High School. I was excited to see other members from Key club within Division 1 South and excited to give back to the community in a very fun and remarkable way.

w Once all the members arrived, we were given trash pickers and trash bags. I enth joyed observing some of the unique findings that the other members discovered on the a beach. As we continued to clean the beach, I found some interesting and unique objects jo such as: a baby diaper, an empty can of tuna and a little boy’s Ninja Turtle T-shirt. While fl we were cleaning, the president of Granbury High School’s Key club suggested that we e should take a break from the hot sun. While we took a short break, we enjoyed an ice w cold bottle of water and even had the opportunity to take a few pictures. a As we continued to clean the beach, members of the community thanked us for

volunteering to keep their beach clean. We all were grateful to hear an uplifting and postive message from the members of the community. The positive remarks served as a reminder that our hard work and dedication as volunteers, doesn’t go unnoticed. I appreciated the nice comments from the friendly strangers and knew that as a volunteer, I have a purpose to serve others.
After the Granbury Beach Clean-Up ended, we all placed our plastic bags filled with trash in a pile. I was amazed by the abundance of trash that we all collected from he beach. Before all the members left, we all gathered around a beach table and took a group picture that would remind us in the future of such a gratifying experience. I enoyed every moment of the Granbury Clean up, because the event generated an overlow of positivity from each key club member, friendly stranger and staff members. This event is one of my most favorite events, because I had such a great experience working with other members as a team to successfully complete our task. I would love to volunteer again for this event next year!

JUNE CAR WASHES
By: Lexi Cepak
On Saturday, June 6th at 10:00, Key Club members met up at the Alta Mesa Chick -Fil-A for their first car wash of the summer. They set up their table, then got out their posters and walked the sidewalks, showing them to passing by cars. After they attracted their attention and the cars pulled in to Chick-Fil-A for their free car washes, they scrubbed the cars with soap and washed and dried them until they looked sparkling clean. They cleaned up around 2:00. On Friday, June 12th, they repeated this process at Joe’s Pizza. Their hard work really paid off because they earned almost $200 from their two car washes! This money helped pay for Vice-President Jordan Peyton and Historian Sara Al-Midany to take our club’s non-traditional scrapbook to International Convention. The money was well worth the work, as Sara and Jordan both said they had an amazing time in Indianapolis, getting to know how the club worked on the international level and having a good time with fellow dedicated Key Clubbers from around the country. We’ll be having more car washes this summer, so check the upcoming events section of this newsletter and don’t forget to attend! The money will go to making our club the best it can be.

BARNES & NOBLE STORYTIME
By: Lexi Cepak
At ten, Vincent Berardi and I arrived at Barnes & Noble Storytime. We were told that we’d be reading Orion and the Dark by Emma Yarlett. We were given the book, coloring sheets, and crayons by one of the workers at Barnes and Noble. We read the book for ourselves, and then picked out a second book to read to the children. We even did a few coloring pages as examples for the kids and discussed our plans for our Key Club’s website. When the clock struck 11, Vincent read Orion and the Dark and I took pictures. Vincent was a great reader and the kids seemed to be really interested in the story. One kid even got up on the stage and pointed at the book excitedly while he was reading. After we finished reading books to them, we led them over to the craft table. There were so many kids that we had to pull up extra benches for them to sit on! The children were all artists. We watched as they colored Orion from the story and completed mazes and other puzzles. They had a great time, and so did we. Barnes & Noble Storytime makes my Saturdays worth looking forward to.
DR. WHO TRIVIA EVENT
T On Friday, July 3rd, North Crowley Key Clubbers arrived at Barnes and Noble for the Dr. Who Trivia Event. We were each assigned a different booth with questions about various doctors. I was assigned the booth for the most recent doctors, doctors 9 – 12. We handed out question sheets to all of the participants when they made their way to our booth. Then, Daisy and I checked their answers with the answer sheet and gave them four stickers on a progress sheet for completing questions for each doctor. Everyone was upset to know that Peter Capaldi had appeared three times in shows in the Whoniverse because they forgot about his appearance in Torchwood. Once they completed their questions and got their stickers, we asked them to enter a prize drawing that would be held at the end of the event. Everyone had a great time because the trivia questions were really fun. They asked about what food The Eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith, decided to eat when he first met Amy Pond. It was fish fingers and custard, of course! No one could remember that The Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, posed as Jamie McCrimmon, a companion of the Second Doctor, when he met Queen Victoria in the episode “Tooth and Claw.” Everyone had a really fun time brushing up on their Doctor Who Trivia! After the participants had finished the trivia activity, everyone gathered around my booth for the prize drawing.
They gave out a poster, three gift bags, and a cardboard TARDIS. When they drew my name from the bucket and called it out, I was really surprised and excited. I won one of the gift bags, which was cool because the prizes were put in a Doctor Who canvas bag that I plan to use as a shopping bag instead of disposable ones. I was sad to leave when the event was over. Overall, I had a great time volunteering at Barnes and Noble for their Doctor Who Trivia event. I love Doctor Who and volunteering, so it was the perfect event for me. I had a blast sharing my knowledge with other participants and other Key Club members. I even got to meet Key Clubbers from other schools! I can’t wait to participate in another Barnes and Noble trivia event this summer. The workers at Barnes and Noble are always finding a way to make volunteering and staying active in the community fun and exciting.
