MOUNTAIN HOUSE Wild Goose Ranch Steamboat Springs
WESTERN SPIRIT Set in the striking landscape of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the Wild Goose Ranch is an authentic interpretation of Western tradition infused with modern-day amenities. With a nod to ranch homes of a bygone era, the residence comprises three buildings connected by light-drenched enclosed walkways. Renewable energy sources and energy-efficient design elements are in place throughout the project. Agricultural ponds dot the property, referencing its history, while nearby, a timber-frame barn hosts a variety of community events sponsored by the civic-minded homeowners. Kelly & Stone Architects created the original master plan for this energy-efficient showpiece, as well as the design for the main residence and barn. A member of the United States Green Building Council, the awardwinning firm is dedicated to incorporating sustainable building solutions into their residential and commercial projects. Stunning examples of their work can be seen throughout the mountain west. Visit www.ksaarch.com or call 970.875.0590

landscape design
SONES LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE GROUP
Sones Landscape Architecture Group was responsible for the design of the Wild Goose Ranch residence’s landscape and exterior elements. SLA responded to the challenge of integrating the home into the existing hay meadows that surround it by transforming existing irrigation ditches into naturalistic ponds and utilizing large drifts of ornamental grasses to bring the form and texture of the hay meadows into the home’s landscape. The company is known for its design of outdoor living areas, primarily in the residential market, and for integrating amenities such as pools, spas, fireplaces and artwork naturally into the landscape. SLA works primarily in Colorado’s resort communities, but also applies their understanding, appreciation and interpretation of the mountain lifestyle to design projects from coast to coast. Whether working with a rustic lodge or a contemporary style home, SLA respects and responds to the architectural style to integrate the home and site elements to form a seamless transition to the natural landscape.
