National College of Ireland SPRINGBOARD & ICT SKILLS CONVERSION INDUSTRY PLACEMENT PROGRAMMES National College of Ireland’s Career Development and Employability Service manages the Industry Placement Programmes for the Faculties of Business and Computing. The work placement office is currently working with over 500 undergraduate and postgraduate students on a range of IT and Business related courses and are actively seeking work placements in industry. We are currently looking to partner with Industry on courses such as Digital Marketing, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing and Web Technologies. Our programmes are designed with real businesses in mind, so we are proud to work with employers ranging from large multinationals to small SMEs across all industry sectors who help inform our course delivery and development.

Springboard and ICT Courses From their inception, Springboard and ICT Courses have been designed in direct response to Industry skill shortages. These courses are specifically aimed at providing graduates to businesses who can bridge these gaps in Irish and International Industries. All students on these courses are required to complete a three to six month work placement either during or upon course completion.

Higher Diploma in Science in Data Analytics (Level 8) The Higher Diploma in Data Analytics programme is designed to furnish students with the skills to enter the world of data analytics through building a foundation of strong statistical knowledge and developing problem-solving skills for business analysis. The course is aimed at enabling students to understand and use business data to deliver better decision-making. This higher diploma will give students the technical skills in areas like; Data Analytics, Advanced Business Data Analysis and Problem-Solving Techniques, Programming for Big Data, Data and Web Mining that will help individuals to make an impact and equip them for a wide range of roles.

The Higher Diploma in Science in Cloud Computing focuses mainly on equipping students with essential requirement elicitation, analysis, design, implementation and testing skills in the development of software systems that are meant to be deployed as a Software as a Service to a Cloud Computing platform. Graduates of this programme will be able to work in entry-level positions such as: Cloud Application developer, Messaging /e-mail/groupware specialist, Cloud Architect, Cloud technician, Cloud solutions Architect, Cloud Developer, Cloud Engineer, Cloud Implementation Engineer etc.

Postgraduate Diploma in Science in Cloud Computing (Level 9) Students on the Postgraduate Diploma and the MSc in Cloud Computing programmes specialise in two key areas: Infrastructure (a.k.a. IaaS -Infrastructure as a Service) and Development (a.k.a. SaaS -Software as a Service). By focusing on the structured management of cloud architectural components, students concentrate on the latest design principles, models, and technologies in cloud computing. They typically acquire different levels of proficiency in the following languages and technologies: Virtualisation, Shell Scripting, Linux, Java, SQL, noSQL databases, Javascript (jQuery), C#, and Ruby on Rails. Students undertaking work placements for this course can be expected to assist employers in a number of areas examples of which could be; developing and testing a proof-of-concept cloud application based on specific business needs; assisting in the management of cloud assets including servers and storage and helping troubleshoot user issues; and/or- aiding in the configuration and management of cloud middleware/virtualisation. Certificate in Mobile Applications Development (Level 8) This programme was designed to support students in the development of the technical, theoretical, and cognitive skills required for mobile applications design and development. Students will practice formulating and evaluating creative technical solutions to solve real-world native and cross-platform mobile applications design problems. It is expected that a graduate of this programme should be able to work in the area of Mobile Application Solutions.

Higher Diploma in Science in Computing - Mobile Technologies (Level 8) Higher Diploma in Science in Computing (Mobile Technologies) will provide graduates with solid foundation in understanding of the theory, concepts and methods pertaining to Computing, complemented with detailed knowledge, problem-solving and technical skills required for designing and developing software for various mobile devices or mobile game applications delivered as web services on the cloud. This course is delivered by a focused set of modules and project work designed to bring candidates quickly to the industry entry standard for graduates enabling them to work in; wireless and mobile communication technologies, mobile applications development, cloud-based games services, development of mobile games and run on mobile devices etc.

Postgraduate Diploma in Science in Web Technologies (Level 9) The Post Graduate Diploma in Web Technologies is delivered through the Cloud Competency Centre at the National College of Ireland and provides learners with a solid foundation in a number of programming languages currently in-demand by the ICT sector. Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to: Create cutting-edge web applications to be deployed across the latest hosting platforms, including public/hybrid clouds, peer-to-peer networks, clusters, and multi-tenancy servers, for example, using .NET development on Azure, Ruby on Rails on HEROKU, HTML5…etc. In addition these graduates will be able to demonstrate expert knowledge of web entrepreneurship; application development, security, and user experience. Diploma in National and International Selling
Diploma in National and International Selling This programme has been developed through the partnership between the National College of Ireland (NCI) and the Sales Institute of Ireland (SII). The programme has been designed to be relevant both to indigenous field sales and international inside sales roles. This programme is extremely hands-on and all module assessment is practical and work related. Examples of what students will be able to do on placement are: Internal Sales, External Sales, B2B Sales, Sales Analysis, Business Development through all aspects of social media, lead generation etc. Recent graduates who completed this programme secured placements and job offers in the following companies and roles – Department Manager, Call Centre Manager; E-bookers, Business Development Manager, Kepak, Hailstorm, Sales and Marketing Manager, Marketing Intern, Business Development and Sales Contractor.
